Eldon Appleton |
Knowledge (Local): 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (12) + 6 = 18
"This dark pit is an oubliette," Eldon says as the party approaches it. "It's a sort of isolation pit that can only be accessed through the top, and is used as a particularly severe punishment for only the most dangerous prisoners."
Eldon jumps back when the Lopper appears. "Holy moley!"
Knowledge (Religion): 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (20) + 6 = 26
"He is incorporeal! Non-magical weapons cannot hit him, and even magical weapons and spells are less effective. We need 'ghost touch' items or positive energy to deal damage normally."
When the axe Rustom wields changes, Eldon grins. "Undead whose deaths are died to specific events may also have vulnerabilities associated with that event. This axe can easily bring him down!"
Eldon moves forward, and prepares the spell cure light wounds.
This spell's positive energy will harm him!
Whiskeyjack Dunaldthal |
"Anyone be havin' another o' them siphons? Elsewise, we be in fer a fight!" In anyone else, that might have sounded like concern, but the warpriest just sounded excited. Nothing made him happier than to bring the hammer of Angradd to the undead.
Double move into combat. Saving shield on Rustom. ( I know it won't affect incorporeal, but it's in character.
GM SpiderBeard |
From Eldon's knowledge religion roll it's pretty clear this is not a haunt and the siphon will not work.
The Lopper bobs along with a calm, methodical grace. It swings its axe out as Rustom; the ghostly axe passes right through his armour.
Attack: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (17) + 7 = 24 Damage: 1d6 ⇒ 5
Bleed: 1d6 ⇒ 4
A vicious, bloody wound opens up on Rustom and begins bleeding severely!
Everyone is up! Rustom takes 5 damage, 4 bleed damage and is bleeding severely.

Whiskeyjack Dunaldthal |
Whiskeyjack reached out to Rustom and touched the man. Instantly his wounds began to close as the righteous zeal of Angradd filled Whiskeyjack's blood-red eyes.
Fervor: 1d6 ⇒ 2 healing
Edit: Meh! Enough to stop the bleed damage, anyways
GM SpiderBeard |
Rustom calls upon the powers of his God and a white flame bursts alongside the axe in his hand after he heals himself. However, the axe fails to connect with the Lopper who parries the blow.
Eldon, Lena and Arval are up!
Vladlena |
Lena cranks off another magic missile spell
magic missiles: 2d4 + 2 ⇒ (4, 4) + 2 = 10
er...are undead affected by intimidate?
Vladlena |
Fair enough.
GM SpiderBeard |
The magic missile spell hammers full force into the Lopper, who lets out another shriek. He slowly floats to face Arval and swings out, completely ignoring the spectacular display by the fighter. The axe passes right through Arval's armour, wounding him.
Attack: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (19) + 7 = 26 Damage: 1d6 ⇒ 5
Arval takes 5 damage, and will take 6 more damage on his turn from bleeding. Everyone can go!

Round 2:
Eldon moves up to Kawrock, who was already wounded before the fight started, and uses the prepared cure light wounds on him instead. "This should patch you up!"
CLW: 1d8 + 3 ⇒ (7) + 3 = 10
Round 3:
After healing Kawrock, Eldon casts another cure light wounds spell. He holds it ready, draws his rapier as he moves up to the Lopper in a way that puts him in a flanking position with Arval, and uses the spell on the Lopper.
CLW, flanking: 1d20 + 6 + 2 ⇒ (13) + 6 + 2 = 21 Positive energy damage: 1d8 + 3 ⇒ (3) + 3 = 6
GM SpiderBeard |
Rustom swings out brutally with the ghost touch axe which connects, rocking the Lopper back. Snarling, it lunges out at the group, only to be impaled on Kawrock's flaming blade. Finally, Eldon reaches out with a hand glowing with white energy. Although the Lopper is badly injured, it continues its murderous assault unhindered!
Arval and Lena are up!
Arval Beyondane |
As his armor is being penetrated he curses loudly.
".................." Will leave that up to your imagination ^^
He will go full defense to try and prevent more damage.
Vladlena |
second last spell
Since it seems to be working, lena casts another magic missile
magic missiles: 2d4 + 2 ⇒ (1, 3) + 2 = 6
GM SpiderBeard |
Bleed: 1d6 ⇒ 2
Another magic missile snakes towards The Lopper, slamming into him with full force. Blood courses from Arval's wound. As the blood droplets hit the gruond, they race towards the Lopper, healing its own wounds!
Attack: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (12) + 7 = 19 Damage: 1d6 ⇒ 1
A wound opens up on Kawrock this time, just a thin slices, but once again enough to start blood pouring out at a worrying rate.
Arval takes 2 damage. Kawrock takes 1 damage and is bleeding. Everyone can go!

GM SpiderBeard |
With the righteous fury of his God behind him, Rustom swings down once more with the Lopper's own axe. The Lopper pauses, and his head tumbles from his body. With a scream, he fades from existence.
End of Combat
Arval Beyondane |
"Damn that hurt a lot!"
He sits down on the ground with a puff and seems to take a moment.
"I think falling from a three story building would hurt less."
[ooc]I believe Arval has taken 11 damage in total, including Whiskey's healing right. Is this correct?"[/b]
Arval Beyondane |
"Thanks! Feels a lot better."
He rises, leaning on his shield, and pulls his armor straight again.
"If this was only the lopper, how strong are the others then?"
His face fills with dread at the thought.
Eldon Appleton |
"I believe we should," Eldon replies to Kawrock. "I have no spells left for today, and feel rather drained."
GM SpiderBeard |
I'll take that as consensus.
The group make their way back to the gigantic pit. Using the dangling rope, they manage to get themselves back up into the main floor of Harrowstone. With the top levels of the prison cleared out, they are unmolested as they make their way out, and then back into the town.
As the group descend into the town, the distant sound of screams are heard. Although weary, and bedraggled, and in pain, something is wrong. The town hall is burning.
Whiskeyjack Dunaldthal |
Whiskeyjack was in the middle of chatting with Arval about the benefits of a good deflection ring when fighting ghosts when he noticed the smoke plume over the town hall. "Oi! Lads and lassies, it be looking like we spent too much time in th' prison. Someone be tryin' t' burn down th' town withou' us."
Vladlena |
Lena starts running
what now? Only one spell left, and then I'm down to cantrips.
Vladlena |
It's a fire you big dope. Hurry, they will need help
Eldon Appleton |
Eldon nearly trips as he struggles to keep up with the others. "I'm glad I filled my waterskin this morning!"
GM SpiderBeard |
The group arrived exhausted, sore, and out of breath at the town hall and throw the doors open. Within is a scene of complete chaos. What appears to have been a town meeting with dozens of people inside of it has been invaded by undead. Flaming skulls, burning skeletons, and even ectoplasmic being are around wreaking havoc. Worse yet, the hall itself is on fire. Through the smoke you can see Kendra, the Sheriff, and the entire town council crowded against the north wall while the Sheriff tries to fight back some of the undead.

Everyone but Rustom is up! In addition to typical combat actions, you can also try to fight fires (DC 12 combat maneuver), direct the crowd (diplomay or intimidate), or save people from the fires (drgaging unconscious townsfolk out of fires). The fires are growing rapidly.

Lena moves to the doorway, and seeing a spook, casts a disrupt undead at it.

"Meanwhile, let me entertain you with an anecdote from the time I met seven dwarves! They were guarding the tomb of a dead princess, when suddenly an evil demon prince tried to resurrect and enslave the princess with his kiss!"

GMPcing Rustom and Whiskeyjack.
Arval charges in, and smacks the head off of a skeleton, which sails across the room. As the party charges in, people start cheering from inside. Kendra's voice carries over the crowd.
"Lena! Eld--coughon! Arval! Thank the Gods you're here! We need to get people out of here!"
Whiskeyjack stomps in and tries to put out one of the fires, and almost ends up burning himself!
