Soran lowers his bow and sighs.
That was nasty. Glad you were here yet again Fera. Seems you've made quite a habit out of saving our hides.
The hunter looks around.
I feel like we should keep moving. No telling what else will pop up if we stay still.

Our Mysterious Benefactor |

Healing up, you move along, following the curved roadway until it turns south and you can see a gate in the inner wall ahead. You spot a couple more intersection summoning traps, but with time and skill, Mikail is able to disarm them. Still, you reckon it's been about six hours since you entered the city, with all the stops for traps and ambushes.
As you approach the great gates in the inner wall, you draw up short. Standing before the gates to the city’s Second Ring are two hulking skeletons in shining golden breastplates, their thick bones plated with gold. Their huge, gold-plated halberds are crossed in front of the gate, barring the way forward.
Their empty gold eye sockets turn to watch you, uncannily following your movement. The halberds raise and they step into a fighting stance!

My apologies, all, I never got a notification of the post from five days ago. Didn't mean to hold us up!
DM - just to confirm, they haven't acted yet, right? My current action is assuming they are flat-footed, as much as a character can tell such things.
Ferabras, being Ferabras, charges straight at the towering figure ahead of him, hoping to take it out of the fight before it can harm his friends!

After counting his friends and seeing them all standing over him, he breathes a sigh of relief and says, "That monster hit hard! Perhaps I should be more cautious." He gets to his feet and draws a wand from his belt pouch, nodding in gratitude when he notes a similar wand in Soran's hand, "Thank you, my friend, for restoring me."
He then heals himself with several taps of his own wand and nods to his companions, letting them know he's ready to go on.

Are we ready to continue on?

Mikail wipes at his furry snout as Fera wakes up and his wounds knit closed. He most certainly was not worried.. he just had a bit of dust and dirt clinging to his fur. So hard to keep clean in these horrid places..
"Fera, you lead the pack every time danger rears its head. You have not let us down in the least.. you show us the way with your courage! Anyways.. I'm super glad you're better! We still have to find our way through the rest of this, and I don't think any of us will look our best as a golden statue!"

"It reminds me of when I laid you out in that fake mini brawl back at the temple... or at least that is how remember it..." Hoshiko says trying to add some levity to the situation.

Our Mysterious Benefactor |

Mikail notices some subtle signs of passage, showing that the Razmirans definitely came this way.
The Second Ring of Xin-Grafar is largely intact, except for two walled keeps in the southeastern part of the ring that appear to have been smashed open and shaken off their very foundations. Most of the buildings in the Second Ring are constructed of stone. The molten-gold floods long ago burned away their wooden roofs. The gold flood line in the Second Ring is a meager 20 feet high, meaning that most of the upper floors of this ring’s buildings, particularly those closer to the center of the ring, are free of gold plating. The foundation of the Second Ring sits about 20 feet higher than the First Ring, and its floor slopes gradually up another 40 feet until it reaches the bottom of the Third Ring. The floor-to-ceiling bedrock walls surrounding this section make the Second Ring appear as though it were a separate cavern from the First and Third rings. As in the First Ring, three canals of molten gold split the Second Ring, all of which flow outward from the Third Ring in the center of the cavern.
Immediately ahead, the gold-plated road reaches a crossroads and disappears beneath a mound of partially melted treasure. Gold coins, weapons, armor, and glittering gems cover the entire intersection in a mountain of wealth that reaches ten feet high. Mikail immediately spots a nearby skeleton, coated in gold and wearing a gold-plated Razmiri mask.
Perception checks from everyone, Mikail included.

Mikail takes the lead once again, trying to sniff out any more traps.
Perception: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (17) + 8 = 25
Approaching the mound of wealth, Mikail gives a squeak of alarm, and motions the others back. "There's a trap here! Look, its what got him!" Mikail says, pointing everything out to the team.
I don't see a new map. Is there room to go around the trap, or do I need to disarm it?

Our Mysterious Benefactor |

You can disarm it, or you recognize that it's triggered by touch, so if no one touches the treasure, you're safe!

![]() |

Mikail looks about and realizes that he doesn't have to take the risk of trying to disable the trap.. "Here. Just walk around that way, and for the love of the gods, don't touch the treasure!" he says, staying between his friends and the danger to make sure everyone passes safely. He then resumes his position at the front of the line, scouting ahead for traps and ambushes.
Perception: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (1) + 8 = 9
ouch.. well, its a good thing I didn't try to disarm it. On the other hand, I think we are about to get ambushed again!

![]() |

"Do we really need this treasure?" Hoshiko asks the others "I have had my fill of Razmirans anyway."

![]() |

Soran shrugs.
People too much value on material things anyway. Leave it. If it becomes necessary, we can always pick it up on the way out.

![]() |

"I agree, my friends," Ferabras weighs in, "we are not here for personal enrichment, we are here to recover the amulet from the false god's priests and seal this city and its horrors forever. If we do not find the amulet ahead, we may need to see if it is on the masked corpse here - but until then, I say we avoid this spot."

Our Mysterious Benefactor |

As you debate the merits of wealth, you are careful to touch nothing and skirt around the trap. Zolarus notices some traces of passage and you head inside. You walk for a few hours before you finally come across a ruined fortress just off the circular walk.
"Lay down your arms, heretics and traitors, and we shall spare you! You are surrounded! Hundreds of Razmir’s faithful beg me to kill you—but I will spare your lives if you surrender to the Living God. Make your decision!” The voice seems to come from the ruined fortress, but you can't see exactly where!
