Hoshiko Masaru Kodo
|
Hoshiko points out what she saw to the others..."We could charge them, given their sorry state, they may get off some arrows but them we would be upon them with steel. Their leader would present the toughest challenge, not these minions." Hoshiko mutters to the others in a hushed tone.
| Our Mysterious Benefactor |
There is a sudden murmuring from the shadows on the ground, as if a half dozen voices suddenly considered your offer and thought it had merit. But the same loud voice cuts through. "SILENCE! We will accept no offers of 'mercy' or bribes from heathens! FOR RAZMIR! ATTACK!"

Razmiran Leader
Thugs
Heroes!
There is the sound of something being drunken, then the sound of boots hitting the ground. The Razmiran thugs come cautiously out of hiding. You notice they're holding saps but have short swords in sheathes at their belts. Their body language seems to indicate reluctance.
Heroes are up!
Ferabras
|
"We've no wish to harm you!" Ferabras calls out to the acolytes, "Why let this mad fool send you to your deaths?"
He lays a hand on his blade as he steps forward, preparing for the fight. His sword glows with holy light, glittering off his obsidian teeth!
Standard action to use Divine Bond to make sword Merciful for 1 minute, move action to move forward.
Hoshiko Masaru Kodo

As a swift action Hoshiko further enchants her weapon using her arcane pool...and then moves forward to attack an acolyte (bordered green)

Ferabras prepares, while Hoshiko steps forward and cuts down an acolyte! The other suddenly look much less reluctant to attack after seeing their comrade cut down!
Mikail, Zolarus and Soran are up!
Soran Fletcher
|
Have it your way. We tried to warn you.
He looses a full barrage of arrows at the leader, pulling from the "good stuff" section of his quiver. Dripping green ichor, they fly more true than any of his previous shots on this island.

Ferabras
|
Since we can see that the peons seem more willing to fight us when we whack them, maybe we can hold off on whacking them and try to find and target the boss?
Edit: ninja' by a bunch of arrows!
| Our Mysterious Benefactor |
Unfortunately, Soran, he drank a potion and disappeared before you could fire. I was less than clear in that, so if you'd like to re-target your arrows, you may.
| Our Mysterious Benefactor |
In rapid fashion, three more acolytes fall to Soran's arrows!
Mikail and Zolarus are up! Only two acolytes remain and by their sudden stops, you believe they may be suddenly re-re-considering their stance on violence and perhaps thinking that a life spent in quiet and very much alive contemplation is sounding pretty good right now!
Soran Fletcher
|
Soran sighs.
This loss of life is getting out of hand. Throw down your weapons and let's talk like civilized humans.
Mikail the Nimble
|
Sorry about not posting yesterday.. life, ya know?
Mikail is brought up short by the Razmirians hail, but quickly gathers himself. He peers about at the slumped postures and how quickly they fall and then calls out the the enemy "Look around you! Even you leader has vanished from sight! Throw down your arms and run! Your false god will not be able to save you!"
With this, Mikail draws his bow, but instead of joining the fight he dashes to the side, looking to surprise the leader whenever he joins the ruckus.

Mikail slips away, while Zolarus tries to sooth and convince the Razmirans to surrender. It's hard to tell what they're thinking, behind the iron masks.
ROUND 2:
Perception: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (5) + 6 = 11 There is the sound of a TWANG and a cry of glee as a bolt appears a second before the Razmiran leader does!
Crossbow vs Mikail: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (4) + 8 = 12 However the bolt goes wide and the Razmiran is revealed!
The two acolytes freeze. They seem to be waiting to see what happens before they act.

Soran shrugs non-committedly and launches three arrows at the leader.

Hoshiko Masaru Kodo
|
DMG: 1d8 + 6 + 2 ⇒ (7) + 6 + 2 = 15
Against her better judgement Hoshiko moves forward with her back to the fallen pillar and preps a readied action in case the Razmirans decide to attack her...
Mikail the Nimble
|
I am not sure which is a more viable route.. over the pillar or around it. Personally, I think that going over would be more Mikails style, but I am good with either one.
Mikail pops up from around the pillar, his normally happy and caring face transformed by a snarl of hate. "You will die. Your followers may live or die as they choose, but your life is forfeit!"
With these words, he releases his arrow.
Attack: 1d20 + 8 + 1 ⇒ (20) + 8 + 1 = 29

YEAH!! Hell of a time for a crit!!!
| Our Mysterious Benefactor |
Mikail's arrow strikes the Razmiran in the shoulder, twisting the Herald around. Hoshiko readies, while Ferabras moves up.
Zolarus delays
ROUND 3:
The acolytes step back, looking defensive. The Herald, turns back and hisses at them. "Kill them you cowards! Your lives for Razmir!" The eyes behind the mask are crazed with faith. The Herald drops the crossbow and draws a rapier, attacking Ferabras!
Rapier: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (15) + 7 = 22 for 1d6 + 3 ⇒ (6) + 3 = 9 damage!
Heroes are up!
Ferabras
|
Fera grins fiercely at the Razmiran's ineffective strike, and his fruitless orders to his underlings to join the battle. "I don't think so, friend," he says, his tone almost kindly, "it appears they do not care for Razmir's offer."
He raises his blade, enhanced with holy power, and brings it crashing down on his foe's head, following up with a gnashing bite!
Full attack with Merciful sword, since I've got it.

Not sure if that will confirm, but Fera's streak of crits on bad guys might just keep going!

The Razmiran totters as the merciful sword hits the Herald. Still, the Herald does not quite fall.
Hoshiko Masaru Kodo

And with that, the Razmiran falls. The acolytes immediately throw down their weapons and raise their hands.
Combat over!
| Our Mysterious Benefactor |
The acolytes begin babbling loudly. What you can get from them is that they've been here 4 days and over half their number is dead. They're terrified and tired and Iramine, the leader of the troop, tasked Aglanda, the (you discover when you remove the mask) female Herald to stay behind and delay their pursuit. Iramine has some sort of amulet that causes some of the city's guardians to stand down, but they've been hit by traps and worse and now Iramine is headed for the city center where some gem that creates treasure is located.
| Our Mysterious Benefactor |
On the Herald, you find a potion of cure moderate wounds, +1 studded leather, +1 light steel shield, masterwork light crossbow with 20 bolts, masterwork rapier, black robes, iron Razmiri mask, sunrods (2), thieves’ tools, and 134 gp. The acolytes have mundane gear and some gold (around 50 gp) between them. Their bodies also display signs of recent wounds only partially healed.
Hoshiko Masaru Kodo
|
Hoshiko takes the potion and tosses it to Mihkail..."Does anyone want any of this gear from the fallen Razmiran?"
Mikail the Nimble
|
Mikail deftly catches the potion Hoshiko sends his way, and tucks it into a pouch for later use. Perusing the rest of the spoils, he picks up the rapier but leaves the rest. "You never know when a second weapon might come in handy!"
I don't suppose any of them has any blunt weapons for confiscation (Other than a sap), do they?
Turning to examine his team before they set off, he checks to make sure no one is hurt. "Fera? Soran? Anyone need this potion or anything? And what do we do about them? We promised them their lives.. if we bind them, they will die in the next golden flood. But can we trust them not to follow us?"
Zolarus
|
Zolarus dons the herald's magical studded leather armor and grabs a sunrod. He speaks to the acolytes with a candid manner.
I'm surprised how religious sects survive as long as they do when they don't care about the well being of others. Your Razmir god is a tyrant.
| Our Mysterious Benefactor |
Given that you slaughtered their comrades and beat their leader, they don't seem inclined to argue, Zolarus. :)
Mikail, they look tired, beaten and very aware that they will die if they remain here. Since they failed their task, they don't look particularly likely to head back to Iramine's side. They seem like they'll most likely try to leave the city (probably with as much gold as they can carry).
Mikail the Nimble
|
Mikail considers the defeated postures and tired, slumped shoulders of the priests. His soft heart wins out over common sense, and he turns to Zolarus. "Could you please use my wand to heal them? There's no use sending them out like this.. they would die before reaching the beach."
Turning back to the Razmirians, he continues. "Not only are we sparing your lives, but I have asked my friend here to heal your wounds before you go. Take your weapons and run.. there is not much time before the next golden flood, and you have to be out of this cavern before it hits or you will die. Remember this, though. Even though your miserable lives are forfeit, you have been shown mercy. If you should make it off of this island, consider your path and the path that led you here. It is never too late to turn aside from a life of evil. You have been given a second chance. Don't waste it.."
His voice trails off, and he turns away trusting Zolarus to do what is right. He picks up his pack from here it was dropped at the beginning of the fight and gets ready to head out whenever everyone else is ready.
Hoshiko Masaru Kodo
|
"Don't come back here lest you tempt our wrath once more. And if you see us in the future just turn around and walk the other way, for your safety. Also find a new god."
Ferabras
|
Ferabras adds an intimidating glare to the advice given by Mikail and Hoshiko, watching as the acolytes depart.
He turns his friends and says, "Let us find Iramine and be gone from this place."
DM - we've arrived at one of the walled keeps, right? Next step is to go on inside?
| Our Mysterious Benefactor |
Almost.
You follow the direction the cultists pointed you in, heading down a great avenue toward the inner keep. Two gold-plated columns carved to resemble female warriors flank the entrance to another bridge over one of the city’s canals. Perception checks!

Just as a note, Mikail cannot be caught flatfooted due to uncanny dodge.
Mikail rears back from the sudden attack. He shakes his head trying to clear the fuzz before setting his feet. Pay attention, you stupid fox!! he thinks to himself as the rest of the team sets themselves on the things. Hi pokes out at the creature, unsure how he is going to hurt it.
Attack: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (5) + 8 = 13
Yea right but might as well: 1d6 + 4 ⇒ (6) + 4 = 10
Of freaking course...
He then slides back, trying to get out of the way of the real fighters.

Hoshiko lashes out but the statue is swifter than she anticipates. Two of Soran's arrows hit the statue and shatter, but not before dissolving enough of it that it falls to the ground and crumbles into gilded stone pieces! Mikail tries to attack the same one, but it crumbles as he swings!
