Mikail giggles into his furry hands as Hoshiko concludes her recording. "This thing sure is neat! he exclaims, peering over her shoulder and reaching out a hand to try and poke it "I've never seen the like!
I'll pitch in to help with that too. That's only 10 gp per player if we all chip in.

Soran attaches the money to a small note explaining how to send a message back, how to word the order so that the construct will return only to the barracks so it will see only the group, and to send an empty gem back so that they can use the same method later, and then addresses the group.
I just tell it to return to the room where we met Reginar, and when it sees him it will relay our message. He'll send his own message, and tell it to return to me in our barracks. Then, when it sees me, it will relay his message back to us. I intstructed him to send an empty gem back with it, so we will be able to update him again later.

Our Mysterious Benefactor |

You put the package together and send the little mechanical wonder out at sundown, while no one is watching. You're about to head to bed, nearly exhausted with fatigue when you hear the distinct chirp of the mechanical wonder as you enter the barracks!
You gather around and as secretively as you can, activate it. You hear Reginar's voice!
"“Well, one thing has become obvious to me,” Reginar begins with a grave tone. “We must destroy this threat before it grows any stronger. I have a number of contacts within the local government who would like nothing more than to see this scourge driven from Tamran, but they cannot act without proof. I need you to sneak inside the personal chambers of the high priest and steal any incriminating documents or ledgers. Armed with such evidence, we can bring these scum to their knees. Time is of the essence here, so you must return before you are missed. I think the time for subtlety is over. Do whatever you must to get the information we desire. As soon as you have the proof that we need, you can find me at the Forest Bounty feast hall." The little bird goes silent!

A grim smile crosses Ferabras' face and a bright light enters his eyes, though he says nothing for a few moments after the metal bird has finished speaking. After savoring the message for a bit, he looks to his companions and says, "Good news, good news indeed! There is little that could make me happier than being told we will 'bring these scum to their knees.'" He pats his blade and says, "I am ready, shall we go now?"

"Looks like we have our work cut out for us. I think we need to go ahead and move on it tonight. The sooner we get the proof, the sooner we can get out of here" Mikail whispers to Hoshiko in response to her question.

Our Mysterious Benefactor |

Okay, moving ahead tonight! Are you going to try to pick the lock downstairs, steal the key or skip it and move upstairs?

Our Mysterious Benefactor |

Okay, here we go!
Once more you sneak forth from the sleeping barracks and hear the snores of Krant, who lies slumped over a dining room table across the hall. Once more you slip up to the door and attempt to crack the lock!
Roll for it!

Our Mysterious Benefactor |

Mikail tries the lock with his picks, but despite divine guidance, he senses the lock may be beyond his skills. It's a very fine lock. He can only guess what a money-loving cult would hide behind a lock like this.
On the other hand, Krant snores away in the dining hall, his keys on his belt...

![]() |

lol my only concern with that would be the repercussions of alerting everyone.. what if we have to maintain the ruse for longer than just this exploration tonight?
thanks GM for that assist. May I give it a roll for a second chance?

"I'd prefer not to kill him," Ferabras says, "but there's no doubt the balance of the cosmos would tip towards good if he were gone. If it's possible to knock him out, I'll support that, but if he needs to die, I won't shed a tear."
I bet if we all stood in a circle around him and attacked him for non-lethal damage, he'd be out of commission.

Our Mysterious Benefactor |

"Kill 'em, eh? Might be you oughta know where he's at before you scum sucking sons o' maggots try to kill him, eh?" With a roar of anger, Krant raises his greatclubs and dives at Soran!

I was out of character when I said that... It was mostly meant to be a joke. I was unaware Krant was telepathic. Lol

Our Mysterious Benefactor |

You just happened to be in the back when Krant snuck around the corner. And you guys were whispering about killing him...

![]() |

Ferabras reels in pain and shock as Krant surprises them, but manages to gather his wits enough to draw his blade and swing it through the air ineffectively! He lays a hand on his own chest and a surge of healing energy soothes the great contusion caused by Krant's club.

It doesn't hurt that someone woke him up the other night by trying to steal his keys and Krant might be a lot of things, but he's not stupid. Fat and mean, yes. Sadistic and a jerk, sure. But not stupid.

![]() |

Well.. that went to hell pretty quickly!!! So much for a few love taps.
Zolarus, Im am cool with a trade out.
Mikail just about jumps out of his fur at the sudden appearance of Krant and his viscous attack. He takes a step back to allow Zolarus to back away from the fight, then draws his rapier as he surges forward into battle. Unfortunately, his aim is not quite so good in the press of the crowded hall.

Yay Hoshiko! That was a vital play!
Ferabras can't believe their good fortune, that Hoshiko's spell has slowed Krant's deadly assauult! Taking advantage of the situation, Ferabras swings his blade hard at the greedy priest, following his strike with a toothy bite!

Soran - any chance you can step around to give Ferabras a flank? You may be thinking of getting a little distance to use your bow, that would work too.

Our Mysterious Benefactor |

Krant barely stands when you finish your assault, but he shakes out of the stunning and lets out a growl of anger. He reaches down to grab his greatclub, and the subsequent attacks he takes are enough to knock him unconscious with a loud, wet thump.
The hallway is quiet, but looking up, you see the acolytes peering sleepily at you from their doorway of the dormitory. They look a mix of fearful, surprised and envious...

![]() |

"We either control the situation with a bluff to them or start clearing the compound starting now... I am good either way" Hoshiko whispers to her friends, and then searches Krants body...

![]() |

Ferabras sheathes his blade and gently addresses the acolytes, "Remember what you you saw and experienced in this place, and learn from it. Things will be changing for you, I suggest you return to your cells and quietly consider what your new path will be."
Diplomacy: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (11) + 9 = 20
He then turns and says to Mikail, "You have his keys, no?"

Our Mysterious Benefactor |

The acolytes looks slightly mollified and they slink back into the room, though a couple look resentful toward your tone.
You find the keys on Krant's belt, as well as his rather different iron Razmir mask. It's a little more, well, terrifying than the other masks. Also, his greatclub seems to radiate magic.
You use the key cautiously, but it opens with a CLINK. A single everburning torch in a sconce on the eastern wall provides light for this area, revealing a dusty, cobweb-ridden corridor. The stench of sweat and worse hangs in the air. The hallway continues 20 feet in, then splits going left and right. To the right you can spy the cells you were held in when you arrived here. To the left, a door waits. Perception or Survival checks, please!

![]() |

Soran; I added in the sneak attack to the damage roll, but did forget the +2 to my attack. Thanks for the lookout!
Mikail quickly grabs the keys and leads the way, unlocking the door and heading into the new area.
Perception: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (20) + 6 = 26
he whispers to the group "Lets be careful here, and only send a few forward to scout. Less chance of getting caught by others that way!"

Our Mysterious Benefactor |

Soran, Mikhail and Hoshiko notice a slight depression in the wall in the shape of a door. A brief search reveals it to be untrapped, but locked, with a keyhole hidden under the torch sconce.
