@Ami as the gnoll slaying is pretty relevant to ongoing events I'm going to spoiler it.

GM Lareg |

A bit of house keeping left for 'earnings' during the down time. Going to try and get to it as the week wraps up.

GM Lareg |

Little bit of behind the scenes tweaking. Should be set to post update(s) soon.

"That... is... brilliant, Maddie. You don't challenge a lion by walking up to it, and stretching its jaws wide, then sticking your head into its maw no no no no no. You lift its tail and insert yourself from under. Quickest way to give the Beast indigestion, yep yep, right through its bowels."
I know this is a bit late (I've been busy, apologies), but I want to go on the record that Yeen will *never* be allowed alone with Pent.
For obvious reasons.

Christmas time!! The next couple of days is going to become chaotic, as might be surmised for all, so enjoy your holidays!! I'll check in every now and again, but it's likely I'll get back to the game after Saturday.

Pent Arotha |

AHAHAHAHA!!! Completely forgot my obligations!! My white beard and red hat gives my the trappings of authority here, so here is my pronouncement:
Naughty- Aldebert, Ami, GM Lareg
Nice- Mahdi, Otah
No amount of milk and cookies can appeal this decision.

GM Lareg |

Let's just hope the coal in the stocking isn't the result of some poor gnome meeting a fiery demise. ;-)
Happy holidays all!

Below I've spoilered a series of feats related to drakes. This is third party stuff that is entirely optional. It's up here for Mahdi, but I imagine if others are interested 'discussion' surrounding the drake could commence.
You gain a companion drake, though it doesn’t regard you as its master.
Prerequisite: Charisma 13, Character level 5th
Benefit: You attract a drake with Hit Dice no higher than half your character level as your companion. The creature has a starting attitude of Helpful.
Special: You must assure the fickle drake of your devotion, which requires an expenditure of 1 gp per HD per day. If you provide the drake a permanent item it finds useful or aesthetically pleasing, you meet the requirement as follows: every 10 gp per HD in value satisfies the drake for 1 week (maximum 4), and every 100 gp per HD in value “buys” 1 month.
If you do not meet this requirement, you must succeed at a Diplomacy skill check (DC 10 + the number of days the requirement has not been met). Failure means the drake’s attitude shifts down one step. If its attitude shifts to Indifferent, it will leave (or, if your group and the GM agree, the creature will act in a contrary manner determined by the GM). A drake spurned in this manner will return only if the character spends 100 gp per HD per consecutive day he failed to appease the drake.
Additionally, asking the drake to do something against its nature (for example, requesting a crimson drake to refrain from starting a fire for one day) requires a Diplomacy skill check (DC 15 + twice the number of days the drake hasn’t been pampered). Success means the drake agrees to your request, while failure shifts the drake’s attitude down one step. The GM determines whether the drake does something contrary to your request.
A PC with this feat can replace a drake each time he gains a level, with the drake agreeing to part company with the character. A character that loses a drake as detailed above can obtain a new one through this feat when he gains a level as well. Drakes are particular about the humanoids with which they associate.
You and your drake companion share a stronger bond.
Prerequisite: Willful Companion Drake, Charisma 15, Character level 11th, animal companion or improved familiar.
Benefit: Your drake companion can serve as an animal companion or improved familiar if you have access to those abilities.
Special: While you still must spend 1 gp per HD per day on your companion drake, you no longer need to make Diplomacy checks as the two of you have built a bond of trust.

...ah, well, Mahdi is not charming enough for the companionship of a drake, unfortunately, barring my spending a lot of resources for stat-boosting items or something (which other people should probably get first crack at). Even if I put a stat increase into it, that's three levels away, so... I sort of doubt he'll seriously pursue a drake familiar, unfortunately.
He will have to assuage his broken heart with the blood of gnolls.

GM Lareg |

I'd be fine with you taking the Willful Companion Drake feat with just a Charisma of 12. Totally I understand if you're not interested in furthering the feat line.

Mahdi al-Jabira |

Hmmmmmmm. That is generous, and I will definitely think about it, but if things like 'don't start a fire' start needing gold and/or Diplo checks... that seems like it could quickly start becoming a real problem for a growing town with a lot of flammable buildings and people, haha.
Well, I won't get another feat until 7th level anyway, which is who knows how far away in game terms/time. If the egg somehow takes that long to hatch, haha, then maybe I'll make that hard decision then, but honestly my gut impulse right now is probably a no. (Even if Mahdi is looking at me like I'm trying to gut him with a +1 puppy-killing dagger.)
Sorry, it's very cool of you to throw this out there as a bone to Mahdi, so I don't want to seem ungrateful! Just weighing options, and also Mahdi's general inability to be diplomatic about anything. :P

Pent Arotha |

Ophidian Coil? That smells like something that supports your mast and marbles from sneak attacks... That smells like something you use to wind up a dwarf... That smells like... winning ;)

Otah Cragsmith |

Why is it the dwarf is the one singled out to get wound up by it's snake?
Congrats (again) Dien.
Now... map! ;)

GM Lareg |

Totally out of the loop. Thankfully forum titles let me know what's what. Way to go Dien. Let me know and I'm happy to DMPC if needed.
I've run a campaign with someone that ended up in the final rounds so I'll totally understand if time shifts.

Yeahhh just go ahead and GMPC. Just finished day 1 of training and Lord I am dead tired.
Loosely, Mahdi will try and let Andro attempt 'nice' introductions, but, if called upon to speak, he will probably screw it right up will attempt to be as diplomatic as Mahdi ever can be.
If things go to an ugly-looking combat (I guess more than two salamanders?) he'll draw his scroll of haste that he made and cast it on Yeen, Gretiem, Alde, Ami, and Otah. Beyond that he'll try and take potshots with the x-bow, I suppose, people don't obligingly burn!
And now I go pass out for sleepy times.

Pent Arotha |

Hubba Bubba, would you look at that!! Top 16 and still going!! Aldebert, more luck for Mahdi!! All I got are exclamation points!! !! !!

Otah Cragsmith |

Checking in, don't have anything to add to the gameplay discussion however.

GM Lareg |

Hotel wireless proved to be less than useful. Guess that's what they mean when they call it 'free.' Anyhow, back home and catching up. Plan to post tomorrow.

Otah Cragsmith |

So, hasted Otah is running in the wrong direction.
That's fun =)
(Just checking in)

GM Lareg |

Catching up a bit. School work hits big time as it was put off for taxes. Posts will slow until the weekend. We'll remain in combat.

Mahdi al-Jabira |

Just a heads-up that I have several big work deadlines hitting right now, and a bout of sickness in the family, so I'll probably be a little slow for several days. Sorry about that, but I'll try and squeeze in a post here and there. If you need an action from my character and you're waiting on me, feel free to GMPC.

GM Lareg |

Sounds good. Thanks for the heads up. Today things should slow down a little for me, especially now that I've found back up sitters for the week. Hope everyone recovers quickly on the home front.

Friendly heads up.
I'm getting the growing sense that there are some rule concerns. As I mentioned before taking over the campaign I am the least experienced GM among the group, though I cannot speak for Otah.
Much of this sense comes from a friendly gnome that keeps telling me you all want to chat, but then no one contacts me. I welcome emails / google hangout contact.
Please do continue to point out corrections. I appreciate them. It helps when they get pointed out right away. This is tough with PbP because of timing and even harder because of our PST / CST separation.
And just incase you all hadn't realized. I'm much more interested in you all having fun than making sure I get each little rule right. But I get the impression that you all have more fun when all the rules are followed just right, which means me getting things right. Not my style of gaming, but if proper rule stuff make it more fun for you all I'm all for it.
