The lightning has less impact on the Spider, as it nimbly shirks off the full strike.

The Shadow Spider descends upon Eri with its full might, no longer interested in being injured further by the sorcerer.

Allustan looks confused by the turn of events. He slowly starts to nod, as the gnome's words sink in. "I can bring three of you across the Portal, myself, and I have a scroll or two, which should have allowed Eri... I believe we'll need you, Eidi, if you're able to cast arcane spells, to bring the other two across. As for greater teleportation magics, I have us covered there, as well. Again, I can only bring three individuals myself, but the scroll work may make it easier for us as a whole group."

He looks ready to leave, as he finishes his thought. "We really... should have left..."

Solrisa looks confused for a moment, then brightens as she figures out Ascaria's confusion.

"No, I'm Solrisa, that's Eidi," Solrisa walks closer to Eidi so then early blind gnome can see the difference. Solrisa looks at Eidi, waiting for the old half-elf to get them to Eri like he said he could.

"Eidi? Let's go rescue Eri!" Sol readied her sword for whatever magical mumbojumbo will get them to Eri, like he said.

Sol!

Mortimer looks up remorsefully at where FlyCatcher was last seen. "C'mon Sol," he suggests quietly, following after Ascaria, Eidi and Allustan.

Male, Gnome

”No Sol. No. You can’t blame this on Eidi.” Ascaria says flatly, ”You ignored the actions of the party, latched on to a few syllables that supported your desires, and did whatever the hell you wanted. And it’s gotten Eri killed in all likelihood. Your rash behavior, during a time of truce at that, is inexcusable.”

He turns back to the old man and adopts a softer tone, ”We were right to continue. There are threats pressing down upon us and risks must be taken if we’re to thwart them. Normally, risks can be mitigated, but not always. Sometimes you just have to pick up he pieces afterward and put them back together again.”

”I don’t think all of us need to go back to Egorian, but all of us need to get out of here where it’s safer. Let’s get to the other side, and make camp. Maybe Eidi and Allustan can go to Egorian, sell of what we have to sell, and buy some scrolls while the rest of us wait.”

Not certain what our options are here. Plane Shift might do the trick, but I worry about the 5-500 miles thing and we’d need two scrolls I think to go and come back. Could be a lot of walking. Shadow Walk looks better, but only if Allustan can cast it (6th level arcane). With that though, I don't know if we can bring his body back with us, or himself if we get to him alive.

We should also get a scroll of raise dead (maybe two to plan ahead) and some more diamond dust for the Restorations (which I can cast).

Bald male Half-Elf elder

Eidi protects the dragon's chosen one from Ascaria's ire using his staff "The fault is mine. I should have cared more about locking the spider in this plane than about the ghost. Solrisa has just misunderstood some words directed to mislead the spider. Do not blame her"

"Perhaps we can get lucky again calling 'Gilipollas'. I need 10 minutes for that attempt. I do not know if you can bring the required scrolls faster" the half-elf looks hopeless to Allustan.

Eidi does not want to lose any time, and he immediately starts drawing a star with an eye in the floor "If you can get those scrolls, please do it. We will need a way to come back home anyway"
If the spider shadow walk power works like the spell, Eri might be able to come back after some hours. The problem is the spider can sure crush any of us in single combat so he probably does not have that time

Solrisa would risk her life to find out.

She seems quite saddened when Eidi explains the trick that he played on her...and is very worried about Eri.

Roll20 Link- Age of Worms

Allustan begins producing various scrolls from his travel bag, a couple of Teleports, a couple of Dimension Doors. He looks to Eidi, and readies his vocal chords with a couple of deliberate coughs.

As the party discusses ways of travel, a soft thud is heard behind the north door of the room.

In silence, Mortimer crosses over to the Northern door and listens.

Perception: 1d20 + 17 ⇒ (9) + 17 = 26

Nothing further can be detected, regarding the thud. There is the sound of running water, however, which seems to echo a little.

Male Human Brawler (17), Rogue (0)

Mortimer turns to the others in the room and gives a wide-eyed shrug.
He cautiously and quietly opens the door a crack to peek beyond.

Roll20 Link- Age of Worms

A river surges through the tomb here, its red water as bright as blood. A stone bridge crosses the river, but the pilings have been undermined by erosion over the centuries, and the bridge arches are barely holding.

In several places, the bridge tilts dangerously to the side. On the far side of the river is a fortified gatehouse, dimly visible and secured by an enormous rusted gate. The gate must be fifteen feet tall and just
as wide.

Lying at Mortimer's feet is the desiccated corpse of Eri. Two dagger-like punctures to his right upper thigh still appear moist, but there is no active bleeding detectable by those trained in assessing new wounds. The man is well and truly dead, drained of most all of his bodily fluids.

Male Human Brawler (17), Rogue (0)

"Uh, everyone -- no need unless we want to fight FlyCatcher on her own turf. Eri's not walking anywhere on his own power anymore -- he is here!"

Mortimer enters to pick up Eri's remains.

Male, Gnome

"Damn spiders..." he leaps to examine Eri's form to ensure Mort's assessment even as Mort is carrying him.

"Yeap, he's gone. We'll need to see him raised before we proceed. I think our plan is still sound, and we'll purchase less if we're not going after FlyCatcher."

"Let's stick to the plan. Let's head out of this place for the moment and camp outside. Allustan, will you please teleport me to Egorian? I need some scrolls from the church that I doubt we'll find in Diamond Lake. While in town, I can sell a few things, and pick up anything folks want."

"Allustan and I will be back in a day or so, and I'll raise Eri then. Sound good?"

Ascaira will buy two Raise Dead Scrolls (6,125 ea) and obtain some Diamond Dust (3,100). That will mean a Party Divvy of 2,206gp each. Please record the amount on your character sheets.

Mortimer looks at his living companions.

"O.K., I'm game! You and Allustan and whomever can go to Egorian with Eri should go and get him all fixed up. We'll camp just outside the Cairn and await your returns."

If the others agree, he'll head back with them carrying Eri to the "Blowing Air Through Millions of Cones in the Wall Room" for egress via dimension doors -- or whatever weird magic it takes to get back. He makes sure that the Northern door in the Great Hall is closed behind them before they leave the Great Hall.

He's willing to let someone else carry Eri if anyone so desires.

Bald male Half-Elf elder

Eidi examines the scene from afar. Recognizing the drama of the moment he nods in acceptance of Ascaria well done organization "I can help with a dimension door to get us out of here"

Once out of the tomb, the half-elf will use rope trick to create again a dimensional camp for the group. He then kneels and prays in front of Eri during a quarter hour for a gentle repose spell he casts on the sorcerer's body using his extend rod to make sure he is preserved whatever difficulties the group might have to find him raised "I am sorry man. It should had been this old one. Gods' will work in strange ways..."

Solrisa helps Mort with Eri's body, wishing she could have done something to prevent such a fate. She looks at Eidi, wondering what could have happened better.

"I'm sorry, Eri," Solrisa says to the corpse. "We'll get you fixed up. And then go kill the Spider...or just wall up this tomb so that no others ever come to the same fate."

If she was angry about no one listening to her about staying there, she never shows it or even feels it. She's trying her best, just like everyone around her, and that's all she can ask of herself and others.

She is ready to move on, saddened to have lost another team member in this quest for air.

Roll20 Link- Age of Worms

The party manages their way through the Black Portal, perfectly functional from this side, still attached to the other side. Dimension Doors would manage the trick of bypassing an Abyssal Ghoul where once ghoul remained, but now, a simple step through the Portal is enough to pass through, unimpeded, and over to the Whispering Cairn.

Allustan declines Ascaria's plan. Instead, he offers to teleport Ascaria and Eidi and himself to Diamond Lake, where he can procure a third scroll of Teleport for the pair's return from Egorian. Allustan wants nothing to do with the city in which his old associate lost his life.

Feel free to RP your return to Egorian, Ascaria and Eidi, if you so desire. Others may RP the day's wait/wake, in watch over Eri's body. Otherwise, Ascaria and Eidi return from Egorian, equipment sold and expenditures made.

Ascaria makes quick work of the city, rushing as fast as his stubby legs will take him running to and fro to sell their goods and buy the needed scrolls - arcane and religious. He grits his teeth at the Asmodean church and performs his obligations there.

When he returns he moves quickly to Eri's form and takes out the scroll of Raise Dead. He takes a deep breath, and concentrates a moment before proceeding.

Then he casts the spell.

Assuming it works...

He peers down into Eri's eyes as they open. "Welcome back. Sorry you couldn't rest longer but, uh, you owe me money yet you know." he grins and puts a pouch of gold in Eri's hands. "This is your share. Pay me when it's convenient, but no dying until then!" he insists.

"Oh, you might be feeling a bit under the weather. This will help."

He casts a full Restoration on Eri sprinkling him with diamond dust as part of the casting (-1,000gp).

"You'll need another of those before you're up to snuff, but it'll have to wait until you've recovered a bit on your own."

Eri, you have one negative level. In 7 days I can cast another Restoration, but until then...

He realizes Eri is also injured as soon as he links him. He channels once, and follows up with a quick spell to bring him up to snuff.

Eri sits up suddenly as Ascaria talks to him about owing him money and throws up all over himself. He lies back down casting prestidigitation to clean up. He then waits for the restoration.

"If I die before I can pay you back, Sol can cover my debt."

Eri sits up slowly and holds his head and feels around for his water skin. The pouch bangs painfully against his cheek as Eri tries to get a grip back on the world and he stares at it as he takes a drink of water.

"Thanks for bringing me back Canary." Ahhh, everything hurts.

"Oh, nice. Spells like roses and jasmine. How do you do that?! Nevermind," he says shaking his head and waving his hands, reconsidering learning magic. "It is neat that you can do that."

He stuffs himself into the corner of the room. "Hey look -- my graffiti is gone! This place has maid service!" He sleeps curled up in a ball.

Once in Egorian, Eidi gives the teleportation scroll to Ascaria "It is better you guard it until we are to come back. I fear I could indulge my desire to learn how it works"

While the gnome looks for the required scrolls and components, Eidi looks to buy a shadow walk scroll, paying the required 1,650 gp. He cannot avoid his desire and under the pretext to search information about the tomb he makes a visit to the arcane library and requests to learn a couple new spells he has seen as useful on the last days, charm monster, 280 gp, plus 140 for inscribing materials, and identify, 10 gp, plus 5 for inscribing materials.

After that he looks for information for something called 'Marquis of the River' and on the 'Rod of Seven Parts' or 'Rod of Law' and the related story with 'Icosiol' and the 'Queen of Chaos'.

The Theurge mind winds with all the stuff. Thus, when Ascaria comes back impatient to see Eri raised, Eidi coughs as a sort of apology "Erm..., yes, hurry up, where is that teleport scroll again?" He casts the scroll for Ascaria and reunites the rest of the party.

When Eri wakes up, Eidi is leaning over his staff looking at him with a broad smile "You boy, do not trick me, I am supposed to go first in Pharasma's list here" tapping him with a hand he justs asks "How was the Mother of Souls today?"

Solrisa would prefer to join the group in Egorian, but stays with Mort in the rope trick.

"Mort, do we need to go back into the tomb? Seems like it'd be better and safer that we didn't go back in there. The tricksy spider is still there and he's just going to keep doing what he's doing, mostly because he's mean and bad."

GM Rat: Did the dragon come to DLake to get Allustan or to get into this tomb/stop Allustan from exploring this tomb?

Solrisa sits back and smiles.

"I sure hope Ascaria and Eidi bring back some magic that will allow us to see into the Shadow Plane as easily as the Spider sees into ours. Or ways to get to and fro the Shadow Plane so when this happens again, we can go get them back."

Spider is a she. Those big types always are. Gotta be.

Sensing that Solrisa might be afraid, Mortimer puts on his bravest face, and puts his most courageous foot forward.

"Don't worry, Sol. We make a pretty good team -- you, Ascaria, Eri, Eidi and I. I think we can handle this," he says encouragingly, "don't you? We almost had it -- it ran away from us. And we know what to look out for, right? A Spider and a River Marquis."

He thinks for a minute, chewing on some jerky.

"Remember the evil Black Chick -- er, Dragon? The Cowardly Dragon? She knew who we were -- she identified us as being those who killed the worm spawn in the Mistmarsh. She also seemed to be very familiar with Allustan, that's why she attacked Diamond Lake then followed him here. She even pointed out that Eidi was not among us during the Mistmarsh horror, like she and her co-horts have been watching everything we do with those stupid little floating invisible scrying devices."

He sits back and thinks some more.

"I think she was in league with Loris and Kendra and possibly other cultists, and I think she was definitely afraid that Allustan was onto something that could hurt them. Something that could rip the carpet out right out from underneath the dirty plans all of them are in on together. If we can find out what it was, we'll have that much more in our arsenal to use in defeating them. This evil worm business is bad, probably just the surface of it all."

"Those cultists in DourStone were trying to summon something very very very destructive and Evil. The WindDukes defeated this Evil Chaos in the past. We have to find out if they left anything behind for us to use against them, and maybe put an end to this weird cycle forever -- and if there is anything, we will most likely find it in the Tomb of the WindDuke."

"Oh Mort, think! You're so smart! Yes! YES! You're right! We should get back in the tomb then!? Let's go right now!" Solrisa nearly starts gathering her stuff before realizing that she needs others to get in the front/broken portal.

"Oh wait...we should wait for the others. Yes, yes!" Solrisa sits back down, still very excited. "Yes, we must defeat this evil! That's a very good idea, Mort!"

Solrisa beams and smiles at Mort, greatly enjoying her alone time with him.

Eventually, she will un-self consciously strip out of her armor before him, then change into her sleeping armor. In the morning, she will repeat the process before helping make breakfast for the pair of them.

Eidi:

Don't forget the expense of 100gp for a day's visit.

Your research about the 'Marquis of the River' yields nothing pertinent, as you waste time looking over various Marquises, all of various reputations, either in their personal endeavors of magic, or their legislative efforts to limit the practice of magics in their jurisdictions.

The Rod of Law, now the Rod of Seven Parts, is verifiable in conjunction with an epic battle between Icosiol and a Demon Prince known as Miska the Wolf-Spider. The Queen of Chaos shattered the stalemate between She and the rigid Wind Dukes of Aaqa, entities that existed before the birth of the living races, ages before ages.

The Rod of Law's creation was purported to have drawn on the lore of a hundred cultures, seeking its strength on secret magics long forgotten.

Eri is returned to Life, though weakened for the rest of the week. Today is Moonday, Gozran the 25th, the year 4749.

The Outcasts stand poised to return to Icosiol's Tomb, through the Black Portal. How do you re-enter? Eidi had some success calling upon the mercane, Gilipollas, the last time. A Teleport, Greater Teleport, or Plane Shift will accomplish the same thing, had one been purchased in Egorian...

He turns to Eidi, "Well, you'd best summon your friend again I suppose to get us back in there."

He waits for the passage to again be opened.

Solrisa, rested from a night of tricksies and sleep, waits as well. She's anxious to get into the tomb after Mort reminded her of the importance.

"Eri! I'm glad you're back! How was it?" Solrisa smiles and offers Eri a cheerful hug.

Mortimer stands in front of the broken black portal, scratching his head in hopelessness.

"Well now what?"

He looks at Eidi as if about to say something, but remains silent.

He looks at the broken portal, the shards of it's dark surface scattered everywhere.

"Isn't there some kind of magical mend for this sort of thing?"

Ascaria wrote:

Mortimer frowns.

"Oh, well, like you'd expect. There were rainbows and magic tricks and candy, Tell you the truth, it's a little hard to be back."

Eidi works in Solrisa's headband the rest of the day while Eri recovers.

When facing the rests of the portal, the elder sighs but repeats the process of the ritual, drawing a star with Aroden's eye in the center "Gilipollas we need your help once more!"

The elder half-elf completes his magical summoning, and, sure enough, the large blue mercane emerges from Aroden's Circle. This time, he is soapy, and devoid of clothes. He does manage to avoid bumping his head, as Eidi conveniently places his drawing in the main hall, nearby the Black Portal's alcove.

"Ho ho! No robes! You called. I travel." His many eyes take in the surrounds, and the mercane remembers. "Oh, yes. You want. Another shift. When you. Learn yourself? Alright. My gift. I shift. You go. I go." The big, blue brute shivers. "Cold air. Warm water. I go. You give. I go."

...

After a successful negotiation, the Outcasts find them crossed over, again. The Tomb of Icosiol stands before you, winds again welcoming you in the entrance hall.

Where do you go?

F Half Elf:
HP 135, F19R14W16,Dip+13,Fly+7,HanAnim+8;K(rel)+18, Spllcrft +17,UMD +22

Solrisa squees happily as Eidi and his friend manage a way through again.

"Mort? Mort, receive!" Solrisa breaks out the wand of barkskin and wills the wand to activate on both herself and Mortimer.

"Do you want to be near the front or the back to start? I was thinking that maybe one of us should stay in the back to make sure the spider doesn't come again...until we can get to its home and kill it."

Solrisa looks at Eidi.

"We can get to its home to go squish it, right Eidi? We can either get there or lock it here?"

"Let us check the items the incorporeal nasty was guarding. Let us see what there is to see there before crossing this river of blood."

Ascaria casts Detect Magic to see what he may find there. (Spellcraft take-10=25)

The group makes its way back down to the second level of the Tomb. Eri is struck by the Dictum Trap in the Intersection.

Will Save DC 22: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (15) + 9 = 24

He fortifies his Will before walking forward, and valiantly shirks off the heavy Lawful punishment of his Chaotic nature, though he still seizes up for six seconds, and moves deliberately slowly for 1d4 ⇒ 1 more round. He can hear, at least.

Passing through the chamber apparently dedicated to the Plane of Ooze, through the hallway that descends into the Shadowy Chamber, Ascaria heads to the southern room, and looks over the set of armor.

Ascaria, Spellcraft DC 25:

The Banded Mail standing before you is +2 Electricity Resistance(20).

There is nothing else in the southern room that detects as magic.

Male, Gnome

Ascaria whistles low as he points out the banded mail... "That has magics upon it that will help resist against electricity. It has enormous value, we should take it."

He chuckles at how useful it would be in the lightning room - if anyone wore armor like that.

"If we're to cross that bridge, we should be careful it's solid - or use magics to walk on the air again. Thoughts? Or is there more on this side to examine?"

Mortimer watches patiently as Eidi redraws his Aroden eye star.

Gillpollas wrote:
""Ho ho! No robes! You called. I travel...

"WHOA!" Mortimer exclaims vehemently and involuntarily, averting his eyes from the Bare Blue Butt.

"Can't that magic leave messages and wait for Gillpollas to get back to us when he's ... clothed!?" he says exasperatedly, but more quietly.

Without looking, he cups his hand in the direction of the Blue Mercane and shoots him a genuine apology, "Sorry about that..."

"Thanks," Mortimer says, as Solrisa bestows the magic of BarkSkin upon him. His expression reveals moderate surprise when she takes initiative on the "marching order". He considers carefully before responding.

Huh? Since when -- why not? I can probably see and hear from back here ... Yah, let's try it this way.

"I will watch our backs. Just remember that Little Ascaria doesn't see so well, so make sure you keep him within your sights as well -- don't get too far ahead of him."

Ascaria wrote:

Mortimer packs the banded armor away, unless someone can and wants to use it.

Thieves...

"Hey, uh," Mortimer utters, strolling over to the recessed spot next to statue of a Wind Duke. "Those sphere thingies to be used by the Talisman of the Spheres, " who has that, by the way? I'm assuming Mort is still carrying it. "-- does anyone know what one looks like? Could one have been sitting here?"

Ascaria wrote:

"There's a chest back in the room of Fire up where we first encountered Antyress, if you wanted to go back and look. I dunno but that maybe we want to save spells like the AirWalk in case we need it? Maybe we should try to find another way across."

Mort will have more ideas, but right now his player needs to see the dentist.

Bald male Half-Elf elder

"Mmmm... yes, my head is tough like a nut. I should be knowledgeable of this already. But then what about the pleasure of seeing again an old friend" Eidi's tone has certain tone of irony. "You might enjoy from a cloak of resistance this time..."

----------------------------

As the group finishes exploring the southern areas and moves to the stone bridge, Eidi looks down to the river of blood "Where is this coming from? Whatever it is, it is huge... and bleeding..."

"It seems we are in higher ground here. We might save your spell for later, I can now cast feather fall" if the geometry of the bridge jump allows to cross it easily with the spell, Eidi casts feather fall in the group to make the jump a sure success. He then uses one of his pearls of power to recover the spell.

Male, Gnome

Ascaria agrees with Mort's suggestion to check the chest, then he'll follow Eidi's leap of faith into the abyss...

He'll cast Detect Magic on the chest before opening it and investigating the contents.

Male Human Brawler (17), Rogue (0)

If the feather fall doesn't/won't work, Mortimer will try to fashion a sort of sling out of the rope of climbing to swing people over the river.

Eri is ready with a Knock if needed on the trunk.

Roll20 Link- Age of Worms

Gilipollas assesses the Cloak of Resistance, takes its measure accurately, nods briskly, flinging what is hopefully soapy spatter in your general direction, before disappearing back to whence he came.

...

Investigating the Earl's chest is easy enough, as the heat is endurable in short intervals. Eri's Knock is needed.

Eri, I'll need a Caster Level check, with a +10 bonus from the spell.

...

The bridge around the bright red water is even across the chasm, and does require some steady footwork to make it across. Even a simple understanding of engineering will indicate that the bridge will bear some, but not all of you in the same crossing.

Crossing by non-magical means requires an Acrobatics Check DC 15. Mortimer's messing with the Rope of Climbing can secure itself to the anchor post on the other side, reducing the DC to 5.

The river rushes onwards into the darkness, a full 30' below the bridge.
