The Doors remain in their current position, though they do begin to sweat a little. Wait, no. That's merely Mortimer moisture.

Male Human Brawler (17), Thief (0)

"Yah, huhhh, eeeghuhhh," Mortimer pants, "No, way... not going to happen." Mortimer wipes the sweat off of his brow.

He catches his breath.

"It's magically sealed, as you all said. What does it take to break the seal?" he says, looking at the doors in annoyance.

Should it fail...

"Oh Mort, push!" Solirsa beams as Mort gives it his best. She is very proud of him, fail or succeed.

GM:

I forgot to add the knock +10 for a total 35, I do not know if that changes anything. The 100 feet I can affect are far from total surface of the doors? Adding a couple of caster levels may help?

Eri moves up to the tractors and says quietly,
”Try pulling.”

"It's too bad we can't just shape the stone like clay, to make the door not a door anymore, you know? Also, it might not work because the doors are metal, not stone, but still it's a *very* good idea." Solrisa smiles brightly with her very good idea.

Bald male Half-Elf elder

"Yeah, that would be cool" Eidi bangs the door with his staff "I could shape it if it where stone. Perhaps prepare a nice statuette" the elder smiles and observes Eri's dispel display hoping it might end the arcane lock.

Mortimer scowls briefly at Eri as Sol starts pulling.

"Nah, nah -- Sol, save your strength. This is some abJERKation we can not overcome with our strength," he explains, glancing at Eri when stressing the syllable in the one word he deliberately mispronounces.

He steps back from the door.
"Maybe the Magic guys can pool their resources together and dispel the seal."

He stands by patiently waiting to see what will happen.

Eidi:

Yes, the Doors are roughly 30' by 50', so more levels, and Eidi might just have overcome them with Knock...

His gait slightly measured, Eri steps up to the Doors, and brings his magic to bear upon the barrier, hoping to overcome the Arcane Lock, presumably.

Something resonates, then is quiet, as if a small bell was rung, then muted.

Alien words ripple throughout all of your minds. Only those of you who comprehend the language of the Wind Dukes understand what is said.

Vaati:

Dare not enter the tomb of Icosiol, Lord of Aaqa, Wandering Duke, and Bearer of the Rod of Law. His righteous peace and glorious memory are best left to the ages, and his enemies are best left forever sleeping.

Eri gives the all-clear, and Mortimer secures the handles of the Doors, bringing them to slide effortlessly open.

Before you awaits a mighty storm, contained within the mountain. This chamber contains seven stone columns, each slightly taller than the next, rising slowly from the entrance to a small platform at the far end of the room before a second set of enormous doors. No floor is visible. In its place is a pit of unknown depth, filled with glowing blue fog. Swirling patterns of wind and lightning dance and howl along the walls and ceiling of the chamber, filling the room with a tumultuous roar.

Each of the seven columns appears slightly different. The closest column’s top is level with the ground in the entrance room to the west.

The next column is two feet higher.

The third rises up to the ceiling forty feet above.

The fourth is three feet higher than the second one, but rotates slowly in place.

The fifth column is about one foot higher than the last, its upper surface seems to be covered with a thick layer of what looks like tar.

The sixth column is two feet higher than the previous one, but is made of a lighter colored stone.

A larger column, nearly twice the diameter of the others, stands to the left of the main row.

Roll20 Map has been updated.

Male, Gnome

"Excellent!" Ascaria claps as the magics are lifted and the doors are opened.

He looks at the next chamber critically, "OK... This is a little weird."

Unable to understand the language, he never the less listens carefully, trying to pick out phrases he might match up with what he's heard. Maybe it'll make sense to him in the future. He ponders.

"Well, I think we want to continue on to those next doors. Hopefully they're not as hard to open as these!"

He bounces jovially on the air as he walks with the others toward the next portal.

How long did we follow the river to this point? Felt like it was more than 1 or 2 minutes... Just checking for spell purposes. I can re-cast as needed, just need to keep track.

What?! Mortimer shakes his head, as if trying to empty it from strange voices speaking inside of his head in strange languages without his permission.

"How do they do that? Anyone know? Can we make them stop? What did they really mean, anyway?"

Mortimer eyes Eri skeptically when he gives the nod, then strides up to the Doors and flings them open with far more force than is necessary.

"Whoa!" he exclaims in surprise. "That was easy!" He gives a nod of thanks to Eri.

Looking beyond into the airy stormy space, he suddenly jumps back startled before cautionsly re-approaching.

... "Heeeeyyyyyy...." he says, his voice dragging a tone of suspicion. "Is this another one of those Ropetrick dimension space things -- a really fancy one?!"

"This is a neat room. I hope I get a nice tomby tomb like this when I die. Or at least some pretty blue flowers to lie with. Either one," Solrisa utters.

"If this door needs another dispel magic it will be my last until we sleep again."

Solrisa says, but she's really not that good at looking, it's just that Rae was very bad at hiding for very long and eventually was found after getting bored and giving up her hiding spot.

"I'll wait down here until you need me, Ascaria."

Dodge: 1d20 + 13 ⇒ (1) + 13 = 14 OW! Really?

He hurriedly escorts Ascaria back out of what must certainly be some RopeTrick gone horridly wrong.

"I don't ... I mean ... " he struggles with words while simultaneously trying to wrap his head around what must almost certainly be an unnatural place.

They could have put a sign on the door -- "Kapu!" or something! Is that what that damned voice meant?

"I don't think this is someplace we were meant to be," he explains once they are safe. He looks back into the weird Ropetrick. "Certainly at least -- not now."

He realizes that he is nearly suffocating Ascaria, and immediatly releases his unintentionlal death grip on the Gnome.

He looks back ruefully over his shoulder at the inexplicable space, and shakes his head.
"Maybe -- maybe we should go check out the floor space down below first, eh?"

He pulls the Ginormous doors closed.

"We still might need that electrical protection there, but at least it's 'home' territory."

Male Human Fighter (archer) / Sorcerer (stormborn) / Eldritch Knight 1/7/7

Eri looks on as Ascaria pays the price yet again for his over exuberance.

"I still have a bit of spell juice left. I'd like to keep going somewhere. This looks like it may need our full attention first thing in the morning. Those armor pots really took a lot out of me."

Male, Gnome

Ascaria gives Eri a look but says nothing. He just needs some armor or something. Maybe a shield.

He follows Mort's suggestion, "Sure let's go below for now. We can face this tomorrow if we must, but surely we're not done for the day. We need to track down the wormy-overlords before they send another dragon to our town."

"I think we can learn things down here to help that, but we can't dawdle. Let's go below. Should we leave these doors open for now? Will they re-lock if we close them?"

Content to leave them open, Ascaria will follow the others below.

GM Rolls:

1d20 ⇒ 11

The group leaves the Storm and Pillars Chamber be for now, returning to the Falling River, and descending another 200' to what appears to be the Fall's final bottom chamber. The red waterfall crashes into a pool of jagged rocks in this large cave at the bottom of its descent. An outlet of slow-moving reddish water that seems almost black gurgles away to the southeast.

The cavern beyond is large and wet, longer in the west-east direction and roughly fifty feet north to south. A pale greenish-yellow light reflects off the river and walls downstream, perhaps a hundred feet away to the east—the same light flickers and refracts off tiny crystals in the roof above, almost giving this cavern the feel of being open to the night sky.

At the far end of the Chamber stands a lone figure, bearing a lantern of greenish-yellow light. He doesn't move, looking at you from where he stands.

Bald male Half-Elf elder

Eidi studies the pillars for a moment without fully understanding them. The half-elf retreats with the group in the expedition further down the blooded waters.

Once in front of the stranger he makes his voice to be heard "Hello friend" the elder gives the stranger a wide smile "We might be lost. Do you have any idea where are we?"

The sallow-skinned man raises his lantern, the better to see you all. He shakes his head gently, as Eidi, then Ascaria, speaks.

"நான் மிகவும் வருந்துகிறேன், ஆனால் உங்கள் வார்த்தைகள் எனக்கு புரியவில்லை. நான் பேசும் மொழியை இப்போது புரிந்துகொள்கிறீர்களா?"

Undercommon:

"I'm very sorry, but I don't understand your words. Do you understand the language I speak, at present?"

Bald male Half-Elf elder

Eidi looks back at Ascaria "I do not think you understood a word of that, did you?" asks the Theurge clueless.

The elder is prepared to cast comprehend languages but he has a strong belief, by the halfling's face, that he understood.

Male, Gnome

Ascaria quickly translates for the group, "He doesn't understand our language, but I can understand his - or at least the one he's using, Undercommon. I'm going to repeat what Eidi said."

Ascaria moves up a little further so he can see the man, but he's careful to do so slowly, and without threat - palms open.

Ascaria:

My name is Moreto, Marquis of Ravenstone. It is a pleasure to have company. Tell me. How did you come to this place? And what have you found?"

|Roll20 Link- Carrion Crown| |Roll20 Link- Age of Worms|

Ascaria:

Ouch, on those Knowledge rolls... You are unaware of either the name 'Moreto', or 'Ravenstone', though you are at least aware of Flycatcher's awareness of the Marquis, as Marquis not of Ravenstone, but of 'the River'.

Male Human Brawler (17), Thief (0)

Not wanting the Gnome to get too far ahead, Mortimer rushes ahead of Ascaria.

Ascaria wrote:
"He says his name is Moreto, the Marquis of Ravenstone. He's been traveling down here for a few days and thinks it's a tomb of some kind. He wants to know how we came to be here, and what we've found so far."

Mortimer crouches in so he can hear Ascaria better, but doesn't take his eyes off of Gaunty.

He whispers, "'Morteto'? What is he, some kind of dreamer? Why does he think it's a tomb?" He looks at the Party, suppressing the urge to shake his head. "Nah, I don't like it. Didn't the spider say 'River Marquis'? Doesn't it sound like he's been here a longer than you say he implied? I say we make something up, and tell him that instead."

He straightens up a little. "Oooh!" he suddenly cries out in dismay. He pokes the gnome in the shoulder with his index finger before crouching in again.

Eidi:

This man is somewhat of an enigma. Placing this location of Ravenstone allows your mind to wander over geographical fixtures and possible map names. You can vaguely place this man's origins within the Underdark, or Darklands, if you'd prefer. Likely in the second layer, the largest region known as Sekamina.

The Lantern he possesses is equally strange. It is called a Ghoul-Light Lantern, a necromantic green glow. You know at least that it is considered bright light against those with light sensitivity, such as drow. Moreto is currently preventing its light from touching on you directly. Perhaps it might shed more light on its fuller functions, should it bathe you in its light...

Moreto taps his lantern, and its light is diminished, allowing the light from the party to suffice for all.

Undercommon:

"Ah, yes. The Shadow Spider. It called itself The Hungry Prince, of all things. An arrogance I rarely come across in lesser intelligent creatures. Did you, uh, manage to kill it by any chance? It put up quite a fight, and I found myself retreating at the last moment. I'm surprised it didn't pursue me, so I suspect it's responsible as one of the guardians to remain where it does. I didn't have a chance to meet this salamander you mention. Might I have met it higher up? I wonder."

Male, Gnome

Ascaria turns to the party, "He's hedging. He says he knows the spider is called the Hungry Prince - he met it and had to withdraw. He didn't meet the salamander though. But he's not saying much! I'll press him."

Undercommon:
"Thanks for the name of the spider, but it's unnecessary as we did kill it, though as you say it was quite the foe! It left us somewhat drained in fact."

"But you didn't say what's your way. What is upcoming? Where did you come from if you came from below? Who are you?"

Moreto smiles upon Ascaria, as the Underconversation continues.

Undercommon:

"Where are my manners? You're right, of course. I tend to focus on things to come, more than I reminisce about what is past. Well, what is in my past, of course. The River travels ever downwards, but it, too, comes to an end as an obscenely tall waterfall that never pools again. But this is a hazardous way you contemplate. It is the Darklands, and a dangerous sojourn for those unable to endure the darkness and its denizens. I have traveled a long ways. I am a traveler. Have you heard of Sekamina? I lived there for some time, before deciding on a change of scenery. I have heard wonderful things about the Lands Above. I wish to travel there, and live out the remainder of my days in the light. Perhaps we might keep company, when you wisely decide to return?"

Sense Motive DC 33:

The Marquis is doing well to keep the conversation shallow, and avoid the deeper waters of his reasons for his journeying.

Male Human Brawler (17), Thief (0)

Mortimer folds his arms and tries not to scowl. What's with all the banter? Are we 'girlfriends' now?

Male, Gnome

"So the guy apologized for his manners." Ascaria begins translating, "He said the river continues downward to a tall waterfall that falls into the Darklands. He says he's from Sekamina, anyone heard of that place? I haven't."

"Anyway, he lived there a while and is now curious about the lands above and wishes to live out his days in the land of light. He wants to travel with us a while."

Though it's clear the man said a lot, that's the synopsis Ascaria gives.

"I dunno. His lantern bothers me. Something about him feels wrong - but maybe that's just the spider counseling us against him." Ascaria looks somewhat uncomfortable and confused.

He turns back tot he man briefly, "என் சக நண்பர்களிடம் ஒரு கணம் கொடுக்கட்டும்.

Undercommon:
"Let me confer a moment with my colleagues. One things for sure though, you're going to need to speak something other then undercommon. It's not very common on the surface. We have many varied languages, but there are a few that are more useful. Perhaps I can teach you... if we're together that long." he grins.

He turns back to the party, "So what are we going to do? Should we trust him? He may know something of the worms... or he may just be a traveller with his own agenda and be useless in that regard."

Eidi observes Moreto, then he looks at his lantern "A Ghoul-Light Lantern. A necromantic green glow. That might bother the kind of creatures not used to bright light in the Darklands." the half-elf looks at Ascaria "Ravenstone matches as a reference to a region of Sekamina. So it seems there is some truth on his words"

"I wonder why he wants to visit the surface. It is not normal for Darklands denizens to want good on the surface dwellers" comments Eidi averting his eyes "But he seems not a bad one. I guess he might help us on our search. Does he know anything about the Wind Dukes?"

He scratches his beard thoughfully.

"'Darklands'," he mutters again. "I think maybe this guy is Evil and very powerful, but I think he's lost and trapped down here, and needs our help to get out... and I don't think 'letting him out' should be an option."

"What do you think, Eri, Solrisa?"

GMSass:
Mortimer is anticipating that Solrisa may very well declare war on Gaunt, and he's ready to march out to help her with this endevour should she indicate the need to do so.

"சரி, அது துரதிர்ஷ்டமானது. மற்றும் முரட்டுத்தனமான. உங்கள் தோழி என்னை ஒரு சுருக்கமாக குறைக்க முற்படுகிறார்."

Undercommon:

Eri:

If Moreto senses your distrust, he doesn't demonstrate it in his behavior.

The lantern and its bearer are a fresh thing for you.

Mortimer:

That's what Initiative is all about.

Moreto shakes his head, looking to the gnome for a reply.

Ascaria smiles, "Yes, I must apologize for Sol, she can be quite rude. But these are uncertain times, and we're up against a great evil who has tricked us in the past to our peril - and lost lives. So we must be vigilant."

"You are not a part of this evil are you? I wonder if you are, and it's hard to know one way or another from simple speech. So many evil people are prone to lie you see. And I suspect you have the same fears about us. How do you judge if you cannot see a persons past deeds?"

CottonCandyFire: 1d20 - 2 + 16 + 1 ⇒ (2) - 2 + 16 + 1 = 17 +1 Bless?

for Damage: 1d6 ⇒ 4fire, and DCFort20 or glued to the floor, unable to move. Even on a successful save, move only at half speed, and catch on fire.

"You were saying?" he asks Moreto, fists raised.

P.S. If caught on fire, for the next 2 rounds extinguishing the flames is a DC 25 Reflex save instead of a DC 15 save, and using water to extinguish the flames creates a burst of burning material equivalent to alchemist's fire making a direct hit on the target (including splash damage). After the initial 2 rounds, the flames may be extinguished as normal (for tanglefoot bag).

Eidi grumbles to himself "But that he is able it doesn't mean that his goals do align to ours here good people" the half-elf tries to talk before it is too late, but he knows the blood is probably boiling already "The spider wanted him dead, so that is a good indication he might have a relevant role to play in our close future. I would better see what he has to bring to us. Let's make a truce with him and work together"

The elder tries to make his words in a tone Moreto can appreciate he is trying to place arguments to peace things off before it is too late.

Mortimer:

For consistency's sake, if we're assuming Mortimer never put down his items, his attacks should probably be elbow- and foot-based attacks. Just seems like he would have exploded the tangleburn onto himself at one point or another during the Wind Warrior battle...

For the giant's surprise hostility, Moreto agilely bends to allow the tangleburn bag to pass him by. Mortimer failed to hit, so there's no need for a pesky Reflex Save. The giant can sneak a little Surprise Standard Action, but we'll refrain from a Full Round of Actions...

"I think not. Your companions must think very little of you to act before our conversation concluded. I have shown nothing but hospitality to you, until now. Now, you ask me to show you hostility, and leave me no choice."

Bald male Half-Elf elder

Eidi moves in front of Solrisa and turns towards the group raising his hands in a sign to resettle and think what is going on "Please friends! Let Ascaria finish dealing with this. We cannot judge the people of this world by the nature of their race. What might be evil for us, is just natural for them. We do not know the exact motivations of Moreto, he has not been violent against us or anyone we know, despite the spider. We should respect minorities of the world..." although the elder tries to explain himself, things go to fast for a long speech.

The half-elf sets himself in total defense, ready to take the hits, whether from Moreto or his own party.

|Roll20 Link- Carrion Crown| |Roll20 Link- Age of Worms|

Moreto watches with some interest in Eidi's intervention, but it doesn't assure him altogether. He retreats around the bend, without losing line-of-sight on Ascaria. At the same time, he whispers something, while producing a glass bead, and shattering it between his forefinger and thumb.

Spellcraft DC 19:

Moreto has cast Lesser Globe of Invulnerability.

The gaunt man speaks up again.

"காத்திரு. அவர்கள் வன்முறைக்கு முடிவு செய்யவில்லை."

Undercommon:

"Wait. They haven't decided on violence, yet."

Sense Motive DC 33, and be able to understand Undercommon:

It's not clear that Moreto is speaking directly to you, at this moment. He's certainly looking directly at you, but his mannerisms suggest that he's not projecting his gestures for your benefit.

Mortimer, Eri, Solrisa and Ascaria may finish Round 1, and Eidi can begin Round 2!
