Seventeen who had been quiet till now adds shyly, "Diverting the power to somewhere north of scrapwall was Meyander's idea rather than Tretts. Meyander was a zealout speaking of strange 'Gods' which mean nothing to us. She followed one called Hellion and was apparently fighting against Unity whatever that is. We get the impression that bad things would have happened if the power diversion had continued. My friends which to apprehend Trett so he may answer for his crimes and investigate what Meyander was up to. I have a more personal request, do you know of any technology for reversing memory loss?"
GM Niles Iron Gods |
Cythrul dismisses his servants with a gesture and he says in his deep voice What you say. Is most troubling. I know of whispers of a new power in the North. Scrapwall is said to be ruled by the Lords of Rust. My contact, a man named Veragio, leader of a "gang" known as the Steel Hawks spoke of them in his last correspondence. Cythrul pauses a moment and then continues So, this Sanvril Trett worked with this "Meyander"? or were they cross purposes? Is he a League Agent or something else? Nevermind that, I have suspected that foul peddler of being a spy for a long while. I will have my contacts ensure he cannot remain in the city for long, we do not welcome League interference in Hajoth Hakados.
To Seven, Cythrul gives an alien expression you assume might be smiling, however it looks almost grotesque There are such things, memory facets they are called. I was in possession of one once...fascinating device. It held the stored memories of a being from thousands of years ago...Alas, it is lost to me now. If you wish I can have my merchants look for one child...but the cost would be...immense.
Seven.teen |
Deflated Seventeen replies, "On the one hand it is heartrending to learn that memory facets exists. On the other my means are modest. Perhaps it is more logical to simply ask." She takes a deep breath as if working herself up to something and sighs, "I know a little of your people and your customs, and moreover I have heard of you." Seventeen bows slightly before adding in a quiet voice, "But I don't know how. I have memories stretching back 19 years and in that time I have never come here or had any dealings with planar travelers. Yet somehow I know. This is disquieting, my memories must be false. Have we met before?"
Seventeen has become more than a little distressed, fearing that she is loosing her mind.
GM Niles Iron Gods |
Cythrul "smiles" again at Seven and he motions for her to come closer. He leans in and whispers to her
After, Cythrul says I am not certain that this Trett vagabond is in my city. I have not heard of such anyways. Who told you he was here?
Omo Nijj |
"Our town leaders heard from river traders that he had been spotted in this city. We would like your permission and blessing to search for him here, before we continue towards Scrapwall to learn more of this Hellion and Unity."
Perception: 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (11) + 10 = 21
GM Niles Iron Gods |
You have my permission to stay in the city for as long as you like. However, if you find him. I wold suggest contacting Lady Altouna's personal secretary and bodyguard. His name is Keryo Kol. Or, the commander of the Guard Ysilr Rawngel. If you do head for Scrapwall, I ask a boon of you. Find out why my contact Veragio has not sent word for some weeks...and if he is dead or otherwise not fit, find someone suitable to replace him. Cythrul's hands go into his voluminous robes and he hands you a small metal cylinder. Inside are directions for sending word to me as well as a payment. Please give this to someone who you feel can be trusted to act as an agent of mine in Scrapwall.
Guaire |
"We will, much appreciated."
Guaire looks to the others when they all had their say.
"Seems we've got a search on our hands, may i suggest asking any beggars if they saw him, street ears and eyes sometimes have more information than you'd think. The taverns of course are also good to get rumors."
Mortimer 'Mort' Burrwaddle |
Perception: 1d20 + 12 ⇒ (14) + 12 = 26
Hmm... so this Cythrul gave Seven something... Might be interesting to know what it is exactly.
Mort stays quiet in Cythrul's presence but nods as the man asks them to investigate Veragio's lack of communication.
"I'd say animals have a good say as well, city dogs and cats must've heard something as well."
Seven.teen |
Seventeen thanks Cythrul solemnly and slips his gift into a pocket for later persual. She tells him respectfully, "We need to deal with Trett first, but we shall find out what happened to Veragio and avange him if needs be. If a replacement is needed we will find one. A description of him would be most useful."
She then suggests to Guaire, "Trett is an opportunist, perhaps he is staying in the former thieves guild?"
Its more or less the law that adventures have to explore trap filled locations right?
Jarreck Lightfoot |
perception: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (7) + 9 = 16
Jarreck smiles as Seven pockets the item Master Cythrul gave her.
"Sir, we will gladly inform Lady Altouna's secretary or the Guard's commander when we have located Trett should we have the chance to do so. Our last meeting wasn't exactly cordial.
As to a replacement for your missing Veragio. Besides discretion and a good eye, what characteristics do you need most in a replacement? Although we shall attempt to reinstate him to his former position first if that is possible."
Edit****Later to both Guaire and Mort's suggestions....
"Both of those suggestions are good and I really would not have thought to ask the cats and dogs, better yet if able to do so why not contact one of the rats from inside the warehouse?"
@Seven - but of course! :-)
Mortimer 'Mort' Burrwaddle |
"That is an option, but I'll need to communicate with my patron to do so. I'm not prepared for a talk with rats yet, though I could transform into a dog and see what they can tell us, in that form I can communicate with them."
This is actually the first time Mort mentions changing forms, depending on how familiar you are with druids, you might be very surprised or not at all.
Jarreck Lightfoot |
Jarreck merely arches an eyebrow and lets out a low whistle but offers no comment. Having been around long enough to hear stories of druids shape-shifting, and varying opinions on their ability to do so. So far Mort has been a good companion and Jarreck will give him the benefit of the doubt as to his shape-shifting abilities.
GM Niles Iron Gods |
Veragio was a brute and a simple man, but he was also avaricious and so would send word from Scrapwall. I find those that favor coin to be most amenable to trading knowledge. Cythrul says and you can sense Cythrul's distaste for the man personally.
Is there anything else you need from me?
Jarreck Lightfoot |
don't think so but purchases later may be an option
Guaire |
Trett is an opportunist, perhaps he is staying in the former thieves guild?"
"A plausible option too."
Looking at the others; "Well then we have the rodents, tavern, beggars and a thieves' guild, provided we ca find them, to ask for Trett.
Jarreck and myself could go with the beggars and the thieves' guild, Mort suggested to talk with the animals. Omo & Seven, would you have a preference where to ask around at?"
Seven.teen |
Seventeen replies "Likewise I know little of such things, but your course of action sounds sensible."
Mortimer 'Mort' Burrwaddle |
Mort hides behind Jarreck and Guaire, so nobody sees him change and suddenly his limbs begin altering and a couple of seconds later there's a small blonde scruffy-looking mastiff where he stood.
The mastiff shakes his head and neck, then he looks at the others holding its head a little tilted and jumps off on its own.
Now to see and check if there are any dogs willing to talk in this town, no time to waste hanging around with the others unfortunately, this only lasts so long.
Mortimer 'Mort' Burrwaddle |
I believe it did with animals of the same type as I lose all manner of speech I had in my normal form, I'll check.
A druid loses her ability to speak while in animal form because she is limited to the sounds that a normal, untrained animal can make, but she can communicate normally with other animals of the same general grouping as her new form. (The normal sound a wild parrot makes is a squawk, so changing to this form does not permit speech.)
GM Niles Iron Gods |
Hah, learn something new every day. I didn't know druids could do that. However, I've never once played a druid in all of 3.X....
Mort turns into a dog and spends some time conversing with other dogs about town. Unfortunately for him, most dogs think most humans all look alike. Perhaps if they had something to smell???
Seven.teen |
Seventeen spends much of the day with her nose buried in the set of yellowing scrolls Cythrul had given her. She seems thoroughly engrossed and although she's somewhat evasive about the contents she tells you that, "It turns out to be a journal of sorts, written about two hundred years ago. While I like it, I think you'd find it quite dull in truth."
She does stop to marvel at Mort's transformation asking, "That could be very useful, what else can you transform into? Could you turn into a mouse and scurry through a tiny hole, or into a bird to fly away?"
I wonder if the wand Seventeen bought from Trett has any lingering odor. Certainly Seventeen can't smell anything but then again she's not exactly a bloodhound..."
Mortimer 'Mort' Burrwaddle |
As a dog Mort looks at her with blinking eyes, almost as though he can't understand her. Then he shakes his head, pants a bit and scurries off.
Not sure if we have a meeting point for later, but Mort will eventually seek you out again.
Jarreck Lightfoot |
Jarreck resist the urge to reach down and scratch Mort behind the ears and settles for a simple "C'mon boy" as he and Guaire head out the door. Contacting the beggars who live in the area surrounding the former thieves guild. Asking to see if anyone new has been seen coming and going from the former thieves guild, or if anything strange has been heard from the supposedly empty building.
kn:local: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (6) + 6 = 12

He'll also stop by the local tavern checking to see if anyone matching Trett's description has been taking his meals there.

Jarreck Lightfoot |
After striking out with the beggers and the tavern, Jarreck remembers the radiation detector and pulls it out while he walks the area surrounding the old thieves guild hall and then if needed in a widening circle from that location till he has walked the streets if the town.
guesses on how long that takes Niles, should be safe from glitches til the last charge on this battery.
Omo Nijj |
Seventeen and Omo don't have any relevant skills to bring to the table in this instance. It seems reasonable to wait for more information from Mort and the more world wise party members.
Mortimer 'Mort' Burrwaddle |
Mort searches the city in dogform, able to come at some places more easily than in his normal appearance and looks for Trett himself. He tries to sniff deeply, trying to pick up a scent of metal and oil and other scents he connects with Trett himself.
If he comes across other dogs he'll ask them if they've seen someone that was accompanied with metal spider-like things, also describing Trett's appearance if needed.
Diplomacy on the town's dogs: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (13) + 1 = 14
Seven.teen |
I've been very busy at work, posting rate is likely to be slower for the next week or so.
Seventeen asks how the search is going, "Is there some way I can help? People don't really respond that well to me but I can summon servants to explore places if we get any leads..."
GM Niles Iron Gods |
Jarreck and Guaire canvas the city for 1d4 ⇒ 2 hours and find that there has been a rash of disappearances, nearly a dozen in the last week. People are starting to talk....and whisper about shadows in the night and strange beings.
Mort does some canvassing of his own 1d4 ⇒ 3 hours later he comes to the conclusion that the towns dogs think something is up too. They don't know any Trett, and they certainly stay away from Metallic Spiders, but they know strange smells, and they have smelled at least 3 REALLY strange smells. They have smelled nothing like it, and it isn't pleasant.
Jarreck hits upon a plan to use the Radiation Detector to narrow down the search. 1d100 ⇒ 33 How many charges are left...gonna assume 9. 1d9 ⇒ 9 Jarreck uses ALL the remaining charges, but he gets a blip! 5% chance cumulative based on number of charges used...45% chance!
Turns out that "abandoned" thieves guild, might not be so abandoned after all. Just as the Radiation Detector is running out of battery life...Jarreck detects a small amount of radiation in the building.
Jarreck Lightfoot |
Jarreck meets back with the other to report what he's learned about the disappearances and the radiation blip at the warehouse.
Mortimer 'Mort' Burrwaddle |
Mort comes back towards the others in his own form and relays them the following.
"The dogs in the city know nothing of Trett or his metallic spiders, however they are afraid of strange smells in the city. Something is amiss and it smells like nothing they've faced at all."
Seven.teen |
Seventeen nods, "As I suspected, Trett has a lair there. We must be careful he will have surprises of his own in addition to any pre-existing traps."
Jarreck Lightfoot |
Looking back and forth between Omo and Seven , Jarreck thinks a bit on it...
"I can disable most, and have a pretty good chance at avoiding them when I mess up, I will do my best. Unfortunately, Trett knows us and if given the chance will prepare for that meeting. If we haven't tipped him off already then we have a pretty fair chance of getting to him. I'm up for the challenge though.
Seven has your reading put your mind at ease, I've no intention of asking what you read; only if it eased you anxiousness, that, has been apparent since our meeting with Meyanda."
Turning towards Mort....
"Mort could the dogs you met with indicate what parts of town those strange smells were located near? Might be part of the same issue or something entirely different."
Mortimer 'Mort' Burrwaddle |
"They didn't exactly point out a location to me and I can't change into a dog again today, I'm still fairly new to it and I feel like it takes too much out of me to try again. Indeed it might be part of the same issue, if anything got here it's something that hasn't been here for over a decade or so."
Guaire |
"Well i for one am confident we'll root out Trett and get him a just 'reward'. Which brings to mind we'll have to be careful with our approach, there's some more security than back in Torch."
Seven.teen |
Seventeen replies to Jarreck with a slight shrug and says, "I have a great deal to think about, although some things are starting to make more sense. As for our encounter with Meyander, that was disturbing and I still don't know what this Hellion stands for but I suspect it's something unpleasant."
Jarreck Lightfoot |
Nodding at Sevens reply.
"I'll agree with that last point, most likely nothing good. Does anyone need anything before we go check out the warehouse?"
By the way, Guaire what are we calling that walking pin cushion thats following you?" he says as he elbows Guaire and nods toward the Pilo grinning.
Guaire |
"Good question, it's been scurrying around from the clan elder knows where. I fed it a few scraps and it seemed to have kept close, i might as well find out if it can be tought or raised to act as a guard animal."
The Pilo looks at Guaire and Jarreck and huffs out air through the nose.
"Spike pops to mind, cheesy perhaps, but fitting."
Terror hedgehog to the rescue....maybe name it Sonic and have it be a charging type.
Seven.teen |
Maybe paint it blue while you're at it?
