Hey all..just to advise I have to be offline for a day or two due to a couple of real life commitments this weekend that have come up (nothing serious this time, just intermittent net coverage that may not coincide with time to post). I’ll try and get a post out tomorrow my time on my break at work before I am offline.

Mysterra |

I just found out my neighbourhood won't have power tomorrow, so I won't be online. Bot me if necessary! Thanks!

GM Mawgrim |

Yup, that is correct - the scan detected one living creature on board the ship :) though not exactly popular among the majority of races in the Pact Worlds due to their design, Eoxian ships like the Necroglider are still available for use by anyone who doesn't mind the sensation of open space on their skin thanks to the lack of any sort of enclosed cockpit.

GM Mawgrim |

Because of ship combat being a little bit more finicky and less linear in regards to the choices made between people, I am happy for you to discuss anything you need to in the gameplay thread. This appears to be a fairly straightforward fight with very little in the way of reactions outside of if one side or the other moves through the other side’s hex and provokes an attack of opportunity, so we will see how we go :)

GM Mawgrim |

As posted in the gameplay thread, everyone is now level 2 :) go ahead and level your characters. Material from Alien Archive and Pact Worlds is available for you to choose, and if you want to take an archetype that has a level 2 ability, go ahead and do so. Feel free to discuss your leveling with each other in this thread if you wish to.

Valius Hunt |

Excellent, level 2 means Valius gets his first Stellar Revelation! I was thinking Stellar Rush, since being able to avoid charge penalties seems great, in addition to being able to bull rush for fire damage. I'm also adding ranks in Perception and Sense Motive since they are class skills and will probably help to have later. Any suggestions from the party?

Xera Driftspeaker |

The great thing about Stellar Rush is not that you can charge without penalties, but that you can charge without penalties as a standard action. So you could move once and then charge, moving a total of 90' in one round. Or you could charge and then move again. Or use some item or ability that takes a move action to start.

I'm thinking of taking Jack of All Trades for my operative exploit.
Jack of all trades is nice at low levels. But because the DC of things scales based on 1.5 x our level, or monster's CR, or ship tier, Eventually the ability to make untrained checks becomes pretty useless. The fact that Operative's Edge is doubled is nice, but as an example, when we are 10th level your DC for a relatively routine task will typically be 10 + 1.5 x Level = 25. Your Diplomacy (assuming no ranks) will be +5.
See the problem? DCs rise at an accelerated rate so the ability to make checks untrained becomes useless after a while. Though like I said it is decent at low levels.
If you want to change, I figure holographic clone is one of the better ones, but I also like combat trick and alien archive.

Private Eye |

Good points. The thing I liked about it was being able to roll the knowledge type skills untrained at all. I haven't put any skill ranks into those but I have a high int. At level 10 my life/physical science and engineering will be about +11 with no ranks in it.
There's not a combat feat I needed and without ranks in the sciences alien archive wouldn't do much good(though I could put some ranks in them) but holographic clone was the other one I was looking at. Of course I could take jack of all trades now and buy one of those retraining things later when it's not as useful maybe.

Xera Driftspeaker |

FYI I'm going out to the country for the weekend (for my brother's wedding) and probably won't have net access. I should be back on track Monday.

GM Mawgrim |

To keep things easy and flowing as you explore the Acreon, can you please discuss and agree on a basic marching order and any sort of door-opening process you want to follow should you come across a closed/locked door within the ship?
This will help me follow your basic process unless something else is required by you as required :)

Orlam |

Orlam should probably take the lead in the marching order and open doors both, putting himself in harm's way first. Heck, with four hands he can use one to open the door and have his doshko ready to attack with, and his rifle nearly so (swift action to ready it with both hands, I think?), so he's ideal for the job! :)

Mysterra |

I'm totally fine with Orlam going first.
Mysterra's nosy, so she'd like to look at doors and things, but she's also contemplative and slow to make decisions. She'd prefer to go second or third, but I'm totally fine with her in any position. She's probably more useful near the front so she can deal with any mechanical hazards.
As mentioned in the gameplay, since there's no sound right now, we should try to keep someone in a good position to watch the area we've just left and the one we're entering next. They're positioned to help if needed, but can also make sure nothing sneaks past us while we're otherwise busy. Someone who can fight at range, preferably. Any volunteers?

Valius Hunt |

Valius is better at melee like Orlam, so he'll take up the second position. Plus his solarion manifestation allows him to keep up the light so we can watch out. He'll also have more of an opportunity to charge into enemies if only Orlam is in front of him, which is part of his charm.
Have I mentioned how much Stellar Rush reminds me of playing Vanguard in Mass Effect?

GM Mawgrim |

I believe that the solar manifestation only sheds dim light, rather than improving light by one step, so it would still be dim light. I can’t find anything in the corebook under Vision and Light that says that light levels stack, so I default to only the highest light level applies for any given area, which seams to be the default given that items like flashlights specifically state they increase the light by 1 step within their area. But the solar manifestation will be useful should the emergency lighting fail for any reason... ;)
That said, I ruled in my home game that the subdermal implant still works even if wearing armour, as the environmental protections are a mixture of faint energy forcefields that keep a thin shell of atmosphere around the character for the armours rebreather to work, magic, and pressurised/airtight seals built into the armour.
So Orlam and Valius can use the subdermal implant to increase the light in a 5-foot circle around themselves, while the rest of the area remains dim.

GM Mawgrim |

And yes, Starfinder reminds me so much of Mass Effect (solarian. Soldiers, and mechanics/operatives particularly) - haven’t gone back to play that in so long due to time constraints.
So many of my hobbies take a not- insignificant amount of time to partake in, that it’s hard to schedule all of them around work, lol. Even on the forums here, there are times I get the itch to run another AP, until I remind myself that I sometimes barely keep up with posting to the two Starfinder games I already run, let along trying to add a 3rd to that line up :)

Valius Hunt |

I figured that if flashlight and other tech light sources increase the lighting level, the solarion manifestation would have done the same. Still your call GM, though at least this means that Valius always has a source of mood lighting should he ever find himself seducing blue skinned aliens.

GM Mawgrim |

Thank you - I hope so to. Doing 10+ hour days because colleagues are off sick/on leave during the school holidays when a number of our field staff are also on leave is not my idea of a fun week. But everything should return to normal from Tuesday and I can go back to my regular sleep patterns and routines :)

Orlam |

Do the rest of our attacks in Round 2 go off before Eye's ranged attack? If we're lucky, maybe we finish off the creatures before Eye gets takes the AoO?

Xera Driftspeaker |

Moving to discussion:
Oof! I'd forgotten about that Unwieldy rule, thanks Xera! I plan to eventually have Orlam using a one-handed melee weapon for his main attacks, and maybe a taclash to do fun stuff with eventually, but for now it's that clumsy doshko. DM, please disregard Orlam's AoO attack.
I have a Borai Kasatha in another game who uses a tactical Doshko in one pair of hands and then a returning tactical spear in the other two. So he can attack with the doshko and then make AoOs with the spear. He will eventually switch to Starknives for range when he gets weapon specialization.
It's a swift action to change grips, so you could have a one-handed weapon in one hand, and then switch between the reaction cannon and the doshko with the other three, using one hand to carry (but not wield) one of the two, and switch when you have to using a swift action. I have a Shobhad that does that, and keeps his solar weapon in the other.

GM Mawgrim |

Do the rest of our attacks in Round 2 go off before Eye's ranged attack? If we're lucky, maybe we finish off the creatures before Eye gets takes the AoO?
As we are running in a block/group initiative, people's actions are resolved in posting order as this helps cut down on the confusion between who's turn it is and what actions people are taking and whether or not someone who posts later but goes earlier invalidates the actions of those who posted earlier but go later in initiative. So the AoO against Eye has already occurred.

Mysterra |

Just letting you know I’m currently suffering from an intense bout of vertigo. I’ll try my best, but I might not manage to keep up with posting over the next few days. Feel free to bot me if needed. Sorry for any potential hold up. And thanks for understanding.

Orlam |

Just a heads-up that I'll be on a week-long vacation beginning tonight. I will endeavor to check this thread every couple days or so on my smartphone and post if needed. If you need a response from me and I've not done so within a day or two, feel free to bot me. Thanks!

Orlam |

I think I'll drop this one off my radar, as the GM has been gone for almost two months now. Too bad, I was enjoying this campaign. :( I think I'll make Orlam one of my official SFS characters though and maybe I can get him into an official Dead Suns campaign at some point.
Enjoyed playing with you all, I do hope our paths cross again!
