It may not e that bad actually, I have a possible escape spell that should cut the daemons off from following us and I can heal everyone given enough time.

As long as Zelera can heal us (and she thankfully passed the save), it isn't too bad... of course Mouse is just a stab stab stab person so her mind being lost in combat isn't a big issue.

I'll be honest the Dergohodaemon's first action was to summon another Dergohodaemon. There are two here!

I need to touch everyone or hold hands, and I can cast plane shift once per day to go to the 1st World and then back again the next day. It would give us a chance to prepare at least, and time to try and heal up. I believe I can take everyone too.

The problem being there is a Derghodaemon in the middle of the room so gathering everyone will be painful.

I'll give you a Diplomacy roll to make everyone gather together, there will be AOO's.

Zelera, I assume that this refers to NK's silence suggestion?

If so, I disagree. I don't think it's a matter of one type of magic being more powerful than another. It's just the mechanics of the game. The demon's bestiary entry says that the feeblemind aura is a sonic based effect. The final line of silence reads:

It seems cut and dry to me. Further, I've racked my brain, and I can't think of any other solution to countering the feeblemind effect unless we want to leave the tomb, buy scrolls of mindblank or something, and then return, which I don't think is worth it. If we don't come up with a solution that we are comfortable with, as a player, I think we should avoid the encounter. I feel like this is an optional encounter anyway. We can access the other end of the tunnel from room next to D1 and move past the encounter assuming that we don't give the demon's any reason to come out of it.

Oh jeez, I just discovered something when I was confirming one of my statements above. The feeblemind aura ability from the derghodaemon reads:

A creature that fails remains affected as long as the derghodaemon continues to maintain the aura and the subject remains within 30 feet of the derghodaemon. Once either condition ends, the victim of this effect can attempt a new DC 20 Will save once per minute to recover from the effect

...so it's very likely we wouldn't have needed to spend days in the First World waiting for Zelera to replenish her spells. Surely, we would have passed the Will save to end the effect and been able to return before 24 hours is up and most of us were still immune.

Marten Will save: 1d20 + 13 ⇒ (18) + 13 = 31

So Marten would definitely shake it off if Zelera hadn't healed him.

Normally I wouldn't let a 1st level spell beat a high level spell effect. In this case however I agree with Niadroub.

The Feeblemind effect is caused by the Derghodaemon grinding and clicking its mandibles and chitinous plates together. It makes the disorienting noise and people are mentally destroyed hearing it.

Silence in this case counters this.

If they're going to say that making a horrible noise wrecks you then blocking the noise stops it. :)

Yeah the overall usefulness of Silence and what it negates makes it about as valuable as a 3rd level spell, which is offset by how few classes get it on their spell list (only 4 of the 32 base classes, not counting occult classes).

Fair enough, and yes, I was referencing that Niadroub. Zelera just doesn't have the magical knowledge to know for sure.

I kind of thought there was an additional check but I couldn't recall.

Okay, cool. Just to be clear: The only way we'll have silence for that encounter is if Zelera has it prepared. NK doesn't have it, and I assume we don't want to return to civilization to buy a scroll of it before returning if we can help it.

Forgot that Marten had Con damage, so when he took the arrows, he went to -19 hit points and died. Zelera gets to him and finds that he's already a corpse with an arrow sticking out of his neck. (Take back your heal spell, maybe for Dusk.)

The absolute best spell you hope you never have to use. Worth the dead spell slot 90% of the game.

In the living campaign I am involved with my cleric managed to get access to the feet that let's you take a spell as a spell-like ability 3 times per day a few times, one was lesser resto (or regular, can't recall which), the second was plane shift, and the most important was Breath of Life. She hasn't really needed them but one of these days they might very well come in handy.

In another game I've saved another character from being one-shotted by an advanced cyclops (complete with subsequent fall off a 60ft wall) with that spell

In that living campaign, a number of years ago, we played a mod that at one point the parties sorcerer, I think it was, got strafed by two red dragons breath attacks that it took two breath of lifes from the two clerics in the party to save him.

More bad news: I read the text of breath of life to see how many hit points Marten comes back with, and it turns out he's still dead.

Breath of life doesn't work on a creature that has a negative hit point total higher than its Con score. Marten hit -19 hit points, with a Con of 12. He's dead-dead.
