This way we have to play our weaknesses just as well as we play our strengths.
but rolling for stats has it's own flaws.
it only serves to shoehorn a player into specific concepts determined by thier rolls and it creates a bigger imbalance of power than point buy. upping the point buy lessens the need to power game and makes a far more efficient detterrent. it also typically strips away a player's freedom of choice. thus leaving concepts to be determined by the roll of the die.
you can powergame and still build a concept around the overly powerful stats. ask my Saturday DM. the most powergamed PC in the party is also the most elaborately fleshed out and just happens to be an illumian Anima Mage and a Table Diva. everybody is 6th level and this character able to cast a boatload of 3rd level transmutation spells.

I don't think it shoehorns concepts as often as people think. Look at what i rolled. I've still pulled off a very solid Paladin. What I really love about Point Buy is have more choice in picking the numbers, but I also don't think they lead to powergaming any more than rolling shoe horns.

...
Eberron PF Racial Bonuses:
changling : add a +2 to one stat
Kalashtar: add a +2 to one mental stat
Shifter:change to +2 dex +2 wis -2 cha
Warforged: +2 con +2 int -2 cha
Use those for now, but I may post changes to that. I have my own drafted up somewhere in my dorm, but I'm not sure exactly what notebook! ;P

Lol. No problem. I got it figured out. So the only skills were missing are the paladin's and the fighter's? It looks like (if our bone-knight is willing to max out knowledge: religion) that I can go with knowledge: dungeoneering, with some support points into intimidate (which I'm sure the bone knight will have :D) and survival, and the rest where I see fit?
IIRC I have perception, and acrobatics. Don't quote me on acrobatics. I don't have access to my pc right now.

Okay, sounds good. Also, Desh is mostly finished. Though I'm not happy with the avatar... the search continues.
Just need to get a character write-up and description entry in there and he's good to go pending DM final approval.

Okay, looks like everyone is just about ready, so I'll get my act together and post the thread over in the PbP forums by Weddnesday night! :)
After classes today I'll post stats, a link to the Obsidian Portal for this campaign, and some other things. (Please Gods, give me a free hour!!)

Ok, got my history done. I apologize for it's length, but it not only took on a life of it's own somewhat, but a lot of that was needed to truly cement my character to Karrnath.
Whoa! Indeed, Vorik's history thoroughly cemented it to Karrnath. I love the idea of his family's religion! Great concept there :)
And man, the avatar! Nailed the boneknight right there, indeed! lol

Dakvor Damashek |

.. I needs to find a better Avatar...
EDIT: And found... Slightly more feminine than the last pic (And if it is a woman I am sticking to the Vaarsuvius method of "Ambiguously gendered Elf") but I think it suits my poisoner!
and speaking of avatars, yep this one is more like "The Shadow"! I love it, too.

Tonight I'll be putting the finishing touches on everything, and be ready to rock by Friday! Does that sound good to everyone?
Yey! That's great to hear.
It's my first time to play PbP and I am not sure what the convention is on character creation but I browsed around and it seems that starting HP is usually max and the next levels are rolled. So I'll be doing that right now for Dakvor.
2d8 ⇒ (6, 8) = 14
I choose favored class +1 hp so Dakvor's HP is 25 (+3 favored class,level 1 max:+8, rolled +14)
Well seems Dakvor is ready now except for the campaign trait (hmmm....pretty excited about this)
By the way, Levis, just so you know my time zone is hongkong (GMT +8) so I'm 14 hours ahead of you. I am usually online mondays to fridays 9am to 6pm (that's 7pm to 4am your time) so i could only post on those days and rarely on weekends when real life totally takes over me. Hope that's still ok. (am just saying since if we start on friday, i might only be posting on monday so don't think I'm not there anymore...I tell you I'll post at least once a day M-F :) I don't get to play real life rpg anymore and I value much the avenue a PbP provides!
Thanks again for the opportunity!

hey Levis, have u read my backstory yet?
Also, I was thinking, would it be possible for Vorik to have a variant of Detect Evil, called Detect Hostile Intent? It's from an issue of Dragon I believe. I think that would fit not only his character better, but fits the overall alignment theme of Eberron much better.

I'm so bad remembering what character everyone is. But I have read them all and made a nifty packet! :D
I like detect hostile, so that'll work. Do you remember what issue it was in by chance? Because there's a shop down town that has various issues, and I could pick it up if I know the number! :D
@ Dakvor
This is the first time I've done a PbP too! So it'll be an experiment! I'm cool with whatever as long as things stay moving :)

Hi I'm a bit late to this thread but was wondering if it would be possible to sign up to game and if not be considerd for a possible alternative? Thank you for your time.
Hey everyone, after hitting some bumps in the road and a loss of momentum, we're trying to save this game. Anyone interested in joining? Drop a message on here and we can plan things out.
Real casual, no worries!

GM Levi |

We're looking for forth level characters with some connection to Karrnath, the Last War, or the Dragonmark Houses.
The basic premise of the campaign is that the group of adventurers have been duped into breaking out the true King Kaius from Dreadhold, and dealing with the reprecussions of that action.
At this point the group has broken him out (the the help of a roguish Skyship Captain), crash landed in the Mournland due to a Manifest Zone, trudged through there (without much incident), and made their way into the closest country (which happened to be Thrane). Now they are trying to get the exiled King back to Karrnath, or wherever.

Ok stat rolls
4d6/16
4d6/13
4d6/14
4d6/16
4d6/13
4d6/13Also a few questions
1 are characters equipped as wealth by lvl
2 Anyone have a list of shifter racial traits?
Wealth by Level, yep. And find some traits using Google, and I'll fix them as needed. We don't have a shifter in the group, so I don't have any problems with whatever you find at the moment. I'll fix it later.
