Vincent checks the next door for traps, then listens at it, and then opens it.

Are you getting hungry, Vincent?
Miko waits for Vincent to open the door - or leave it closed, should he decide that.

![]() |

Sorry to hold the group up.
Vincent shrugs. "There's something in there." He refreshes his light spell, opens the door, and braces himself for an attack.

Vincent opens the door on a bloated undead creature. It's rotting skin stretching to near bursting, almost like some sort of twisted balloon of undeath.

Does only Vincent need to save, or all of us?
A gasburst zombie. Think of it as a zombie with brain intolerance.

Fort Save: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (11) + 4 = 15
How fortuitous.
Vincent stumbles out of the cloud, coughing and shaking his head to get the dust out of his mouth and eyes. He looks down at his thoroughly browned armor and clothes and lets out a large sigh. "I just can't win here, can I? Maybe I should invest in some sensible work clothes..."
To Miko, he replies, "That did not make me feel any better about what I'm now covered in, but thanks for the information."
He looks around the room. Perception: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (14) + 8 = 22

Esme speaks up from the back of the group, "What a strange undead, if you had not dispatched it so quickly I could have tried to bring it with us." She looks down the hallway at the next door. "Let me try the next one. I think I see what you were doing on the other ones Vincent."
Perception: 1d20 ⇒ 1
"Looks good, should I try and open it now?"

![]() |

You're welcome Vincent. Maybe it works for your hair, and you'll have discovered a secret ingredient. Seeing Esme taking point, Miko becomes curious I wonder what she's capable of - a sentient zombie.
Miko doesn't stop Esme.
Yes, yeah, but.. be careful. I don't quite know if.. if our healing works at all on you. You know, in case something goes wrong...

"Is it heavy or stuck... or is it locked?"
Tuich examines the door so see if Esme's missed something.

"Well would you look at that? There are Tengu in here. Uh, hello? Look I really don't mean you any harm. We're just looking around for any dangerous -- Oh, right, my horns. Yeah, look I know I look a little intimidating, but I'm practically a puppy dog. Honestly, I wouldn't dream of hurting anyone who was nice. Some of my best friends have been bird people. And -- oh, right, the zombie -- Yeah, I can explain that. You see... Miko?! Help me out here!"

Everything's alright, yes,
Everything's fine
And the scary man won't cause you pain
Miko tries to quickly control the tempers of the Tengus. After all, the party looks quite scary by now: Tiefling, zombie, and a very ruffled up Vincent...
I'm still to much of a 2nd edition bard to ever remember that influencing crowds is no longer part of the portfolio. I'm trying anyway...

Sense Motive: 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (7) + 10 = 17
Supposing the tengus (tengi?) seem trustworthy, Vincent walks into the room and seats himself down on whatever doesn't look too dirty. "So what happened to your friend Yurplie?"
If it's dark, he re-casts Light.

Inside the room biers of solid gold encrusted with glittering gems lie against the walls of this chamber. Golden candeladras stand nearby, empty of candles, and the walls depict a glorious after life filled with riches and luxury, painted in bright pigments and gold leaf.
"That bug eyed creature got Yurplie and.. and.." The tengu's feathers ruffle, "ate him." The two tengus look at each other before continuing. "We tunneled our way in from the cliff face hoping to find some valuble relics. Now we just want to get out of here."

"Maybe we can help lead you out. One of the nicest people I ever met was Tengu." Tuich looks a bit sad. "I miss him," she adds quietly.

![]() |

"Yeah, we're sorry to hear about your friend. But I hope you take away from this how dangerous randomly breaking into tombs can be. There are easier ways to make a buck."
The fact that as a Pathfinder, he essentially does the same thing is completely lost on Vyk.

One of the Tengu takes the lead and heads west down the hallway. Not to far down the passage the group comes across a rough tunnel in what would have been a dead end. "This is where we came in, we thank you for dispatching that foul creature and bringing us back here. Farewell and good luck in here." With that the two tengu slip off down the tunnel.
Esme who had been sticking to the back of the group suddenly speaks up. "This is it! We found a way out, I think I see light and smell fresh air! I will go back and collect my husband and we will leave this place as we agreed. Thank you so much for everything and I am sorry I wasn't more helpful."
Garedon adds, "This may not be the best idea since it breaks rule number one about splitting the party, but I will make sure she gets out safely and catch up with you when I can."

![]() |

Vincent gives a satisfied grin. "Well, I'm glad we were able to help out. Be safe, Garedon!" He turns to the rest of the group. "I don't think we've encountered a bug-eyed monster yet, unless the exploding zombie counts. We should keep an eye out as we finish exploring."
I like how they wanted an escort to go about 30 feet then decided "We'll be safe from here by ourselves." We're probably heading east next."

![]() |

Tuich giggles. "That thing's whole body was 'bug-eyed'!"

![]() |

Let's have a peek where this west-east corridor goes. If it leads back to the entrance, let's have a look at room 6g (opposite of 6f)

![]() |

Heading back to the east the group finds a set of double doors. Opening these doors they find a strange statue of a half-snake, half-human creature stands in a wide alcove to the south of two large stone doors. Comprising the lower body of a coiling serpent and the upper torso of a human woman, the statue has six wings and a disk containing a seven-pointed star in place of its head. Its crossed arms hold a quill and whip, and the entire statue is covered in verdigris. The faint outline of strange runes can be made out beneath the patina coating the statue.

"I have a nagging suspicion that 'hit it with a sword' might not be the right way to solve this one. I'd probably just blunt my sword," Vincent says, thinking. He continues, "But you never know..." If no one stops him, he walks forward slowly, ready to attack if the statue does anything out of the ordinary for a statue (meaning anything). He doesn't touch it otherwise.
