Quick question: I missed Asar on a 17 in round 9, but I hit him on a 17 in round 7; was there a bonus or penalty difference in those two rounds that I didn't see?
I'm hoping we can win this! I think we have a chance, since I've got mostly full hp and orc ferocity still up. My plan right now is to get a high roll against Asar and hope that if he's destroyed his skeleton minion will cease to be animated.

My mistake Shirzon. You haven't hit it in round 7 (Asar has an AC much higher than 17).
Shirzon the Quarter |
More 17s. Funny, I used to consider that one of my lucky numbers. :P If only it was 17 before modifiers...
So how are the rest of you faring? Got your popcorn?
Shirzon the Quarter |
I may be unable to make another post tonight, as I'm throwing a birthday party for my partner tonight. She and I are going to a brunch tomorrow morning as well. I'll do my best to post at the normal times, though, since we're at the climactic finale! I just can't guarantee that I'll be posting sober. ;D
Merephel Angorat |
That's ok, maybe the dice roller will like that?
GM Giuseppe |
Calden would you try to convince Roldare to stay using Diplomacy or Intimidate, if given the choice?
GM Giuseppe |
Diplomacy. The shout was just to grab his intention, Calden's intent thereafter is to make an honest appeal to the part of him that's still sane, not to frighten him into action.
Ok! ;)
Merephel Angorat |
That was my last channel, but it was max healing! 6 HP back to everyone!
Shirzon the Quarter |
With Merephel's healing, I'm still conscious! But depending on the timing, I'm not sure if I started dying first, and whether I'm prone.

Hurray! Man, that was tough. Glad we managed to scrape through. Also, one month to complete a scenario. So glad to be a part of this group.
And yes, I want to do the subsequent modules you have planned. I dig these characters.

I would certainly be interested in continuing to the next module! I had played most of the first one and also read it a while ago, and I've also played the third module in the trilogy. I've never had a chance to play the second one, though, so this is my chance!
It's been a lot of fun getting Shirzon to go from a surly loner to someone with friends who rely on her.
Will we be continuing with the Vintage format? I don't know if any Pathfinder material came out between this module and the next one that would be worth taking a look at for additional options.

Woohoo! I'm on my phone, so the in-character response will have to wait until tomorrow. Just wanted to chime in today to congratulate all of us for completing the module, including a very tough fight against the end boss. Great job, Giuseppe!
I'd definitely be up for the next module. I'm sure it'll be a nice change of pace to have some more NPC interaction/roleplay in the next module.
More tomorrow, when I'm on my laptop.

I'll wait for Merephel to post before moving on :) Shirzon, I plan to give a detailed answer to your question as soon as you get out of the Crypt. There are some interesting options that became available, including character's traits, new feats and spells.
GM Giuseppe |
I've added a few additional legal sources to those available for our campaign. You can take a look at it by checking my profile.
Some sources won't prove particularly useful (at least for you as players), but there a few of them which contain something very interisting indeed: Cheliax, Empire of Devils and Seekers of Secrets.
We will discuss these sources in detail later, just thought you could appreciate some spoilers :)
Merephel Angorat |
Yes, I am here. Busy morning at the house. I am totally in to continue! Wonderful group, and we crushed this module. Let's do this thing!
Shirzon the Quarter |
So I made a loot tracking sheet so we can get our stuff organized:
Loot notes:
General:
-Things in yellow are in need of appraisal; for monetary value, magical properties, and other things as specified in the notes (for instance: does Roldare want his crossbow back? Or is that ours?)
-Red text is technical/informational issues. The only one right now is that "Calden's 2nd potion" is listed twice in the post where we looted the room behind Kassen's shield statue.
Specific notes:
-Merephel's Scroll: I could be wrong, but I think you don't need a spellcraft check to identify the magical properties of a scroll IF you cast Read Magic to just read what it does.
-I assume we're taking Asar's stuff. We should find out if it's magical or worth a lot of money. Shirzon's also taking his skull as a memento mori.
-Kassen's ordinary bag: anything in it? Is it magical?
-Kassen's gem: magical? Worth a lot?
-Kassen's shield: Magical? Functional? Would most benefit Merephel if it's usable gear.
-Kassen's armor scales: These sound cool as heck. We should definitely detect magic on those.
GM Giuseppe |
Great job Shirzon, thank you very much! That will come in handy for sure!
Merephel Angorat |
I agree. I will try to identify all of it, probably as soon as we are safe back in town. Or at least away from the Crypt.
Calden Tigg |
Nice list, Shirzon. Some additions:
- Calden's first potion was CLW. It's been used.
- Calden's second potion is not ID'd yet. We tried twice, maybe that's where the confusion started?
- We've also found some rusted scimitars and armor, that could be valuable. We've left those on the first room of the Crypt.
- Calden will give you a very strange look, when you say you want to take the skull. It's dormant now, but who says it will stay that way? :P

I've also added some pics of the items found in my last post on our Pinterest gallery :)
Shirzon the Quarter |
Looks like I got that item sheet up just in time! You all should be able to edit it, so feel free to add your own notes and claim things on the sheet. If it's an item that more than one person wants, I'm sure we can work it out in the discussion thread.
I don't know if Shirzon says she's taking the skull rather than just taking it. ;P
GM Giuseppe |
Shirzon you can discuss if you can keep Roldare's crossbow with him if you wish :)
Merephel Angorat |
For convenience, I will post the rolls for identification here.
Merephel will cast Detect Magic on everything from the Crypt, just to be sure something wasn't missed.
Now to browse Shirzon's item list for what needs to be identified.
Unfortunately, most everything that is left to be identified is DC 18, so no taking 10.
Calden's 2nd Potion: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (7) + 7 = 14
Failed.
Merephel's Scroll: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (5) + 7 = 12
Failed.
Zombie Room Potion: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (11) + 7 = 18
Got this one.
Did I miss anything? Did anything show up as magical, I.E the gear from Asar?
GM Giuseppe |
Zombie Room Potion: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (11) + 7 = 18
That is a potion of cure moderate wounds.
Merephel Angorat |
Excellent. Someone please take it; for those times I cannot get to you.
Also, now that we have rested some, I will start us off with a little group healing to top you all off.
Channel Positive Energy: 1d6 ⇒ 6

When not it combat, your Channel Energy gets surprisingly good Merephel XD
GM Giuseppe |
I've added details about your loot in Shirzon's spreadsheet. I've marked all of the newly identified items in green.

You're right! Sort of the opposite of how most people prefer it, but it does make it a little more interesting.
As for the loot, I am fine with you all taking all of it. Of course I would like some shinies, but really, you all being better protected makes my job easier.
Shirzon the Quarter |
Hey y'all, I'm feeling sick tonight, and I don't think I'll be able to manage another post. Hopefully I'll be better by tomorrow. Thanks for your patience.
Merephel Angorat |
I vote we whole up. Not just to rest, but to avoid the weather. Korech will find us a safe place, I'm sure of it!
That said, if the party wants to continue, that is A-OK with me.
Shirzon the Quarter |
I think resting for now is preferable. I'll say as much in the gameplay thread.
Loot question: Is Kassen's shield really a +1 bashing shield? Not that I'm complaining about it having an item with an equivalent +2 enhancement bonus, I just want to make sure I'm reading it correctly as having the bashing property. Also, is it a light wooden shield or a heavy wooden shield?
We should also distribute our items around, I think. I'll make my suggestions after I get a gameplay post in.
Thanks for the well wishes, by the way! I'm feeling much better today.
Shirzon the Quarter |
Loot thoughts:
Calden can use the bracers of armor +1, so he should go ahead and take those.
Korech is the only one with the proficiency to use Asar's +1 longsword, so I think he might as well hold on to that for now.
Merephel and Korech can both make use of Asar's +1 chainmail and Kassen's shield. Merephel is the only one of us who uses a shield, so I think it makes sense to give that to her. I think it's also fitting that she use Kassen's shield, since she protects our group :) As for the armor, I think Korech could use it well. Unless of course he wants to maintain his speed in light armor, in which case it makes sense to give that to Merephel.
Shirzon has already claimed the bag of holding, which I wanted to help mitigate my carry weight issues (need to figure out exactly what's going in there still, but hopefully I can get back down to a light load!), and the wand of magic missile since I can at least attempt to UMD it in a pinch.
That leaves the elemental gem and the potion of cure moderate wounds.
We (the players at least) also don't know what Kassen's armor scales do. Can we find out, or is it a mystery for now?
GM Giuseppe |
Keep in mind that you can Always sell those items back in Kassen to gain some money and buy what you want :)
Calden Tigg |
Glad to read you're feeling better, Shirzon.
As for the loot. Indeed, I'd like to take the bracers. I'll update my character sheet to include them.`
I agree on the other items, mostly.
- The magical sword should probably stay with Korech, if he's comfortable wearing a sword. Even so, having a magical weapon at hand could prove important.
- It seems like a waste to keep the +1 Bashing Shield. With the people in our group we'll never make good use of it. I'd suggest we try to donate it to the town, since it belonged to Kassen. Maybe we'll get something else in return. (Just pawning it off doesn't sit right with Calden in this case, because of its provenance.)
- I'm a bit torn on the potion. I think it's best on Korech, since he'll maybe end up in the back and mostly out of danger. Shirzon and me will definately be on the front lines and in most danger of going down.
- That leaves the horn and the elemental gem. Maybe the horn will be nice for Merephel? She'll probably use it more than me. The elemental gem could go to anyone, I guess. I wouldn't mind taking that one.
GM Giuseppe |
Sorry for the bear guys, but you need to be 3rd level when we begin Masks of the Living God.
GM Giuseppe |
I think we can drop the daily posting rate to 2/day during Christmas Holiday to allow people to enjoy their spare time with family :) We'll resume the normal posting rate when holidays will be over. Of course, I won't require you to post during December the 25th :)

If this combat runs long enough that we end up defeating the bear on Christmas day, will the bear turn out to be full of neatly wrapped gifts? :D

Most likely Shirzon!
Shirzon the Quarter |
So I was following your Kingmaker recruitment a little bit, and I hope it's not too confusing for you to have two players using the same avatar as Shirzon's for two different characters in different campaigns. Whoever it is has good taste, though. :)
