Calden Tigg |
It seems I posted at the same time at Korech, with the same idea. First go to the wooden statue and grab the shields. Then go back to the shadow.
I'd propose me (and possible Shirzon) sneak in with Stealth. Maybe one person can distract in Total defense, while the other grabs the key. Then head back out as fast as possible, using acrobatics to avoid AoO's on the way out.
Shirzon the Quarter |
Sounds like we should grab the key first. It's already close, and we're not getting any further without it.
GM Giuseppe |
Do you agree with Calden's plan? Who's going to distract the shadow? Who's going to sneak in?
Calden Tigg |
I think I should be the one to distract, since Shirzon already knows where the key is. If I were to go for the key, chances are I'll fail my perception check, stranding us in the room for an additional round. As a further argument, I can take a hit to my Strength better than any of the others...
Shirzon the Quarter |
Hmm, I posted as if Calden would be the only one going in, but if he has a good chance to distract the shadow, then Shirzon could grab the key since she knows where it is. Calden could use my holy water to get its attention. And Shirzon could be persuaded to go back in (in the gameplay thread or "off-screen" from this discussion); she's feeling pretty guilty about not grabbing it in the first place.
Calden Tigg |
I just made the case in-character. His first instinct was to go in alone, but in hindsight Calden realizes this is a two-person job.
Here's the plan, I guess: Calden goes in first, sneaking and having the holy water in his hand. He'd use total defense and try to get the shadow's attention (by shouting) once it's clear that they've been spotted. If the shadow still attacks Shirzon, he'll use the holy water to grab the shadow's attention, keeping it away from her as long as needed (using Total Defense and shifting 5ft. to lure the creature away from Shirzon). Once she has the key, he'll tumble back to the entrance (using acrobatics to avoid AoO).
I have to be off to bed, this is my last post before tomorrow 8:30 am. If you deem it necessary, Giuseppe, feel free to make some rolls for me. (You seem to be on a lucky streak. :P)
Edit to add: It would be silly not to patch up Calden before going in. Maybe Merephel has a charge of her wand to spare, otherwise he uses the potion. I'm at 5/13 currently, which reeks of suicide... I'd like to be at 10 health minimum, before going in.
Merephel Angorat |
I vote yes to this plan. Risky, but sound.

We did it! :D
Good job everyone!

Way to go! That was an intense read!
Shirzon the Quarter |
Well I'm certainly glad they decided to fill their deathtrap with nonlethal arrows. x.x
I had my nonlethal damage recorded in "Active Conditions" but I moved it next to my hp for clarity.
GM Giuseppe |
Oh, thank you Shirzon, my bad to not have seen it. It's clearer this way though, thank you!

*grumbles incoherently about bad dice rolls*
Shirzon the Quarter |
Yup! Healing essentially counts double for me right now. Also, you got me back up to barely conscious!
Shirzon the Quarter |
My max hp is 11, so I need to take another 2 damage to be unconscious again I think (and if they total up to 11 I'll be staggered).
Calden Tigg |
Yikes, that was pretty tense. What a death trap!
I have crossed off the healing potion that I got from Ilimara. I assumed that I was staggered at 13 NL with 13 hit points. Any further action (dragging Merephel to safety) would have cost me 1 lethal damage, putting me at 12/13 with 13 NL currently. No healing magic available.
What did we do with the two healing potions that Roldare had with him? I think Shirzon alluded to taking one. Did you add it to your inventory, Shirzon?
GM Giuseppe |
Again sorry for having to bot your characters so intensively, but from your last post I understood that this encounter could easily turn frustrating and would have taken about 2-3 days to complete.
I've updated our Roll20 map and added the XP you gained to your XP counter. You're 150 XP from level 2!

Shirzon has taken one of them. Also, you have some unidentified potions you could try in the worst-case scenario. You just need to heal Merephel to consciousness I believe.
Korech |
Speaking of botting intensively, I'm unavailable for the rest of the day. Apologies! Back to full form come tomorrow.

Thank you for letting us know Korech!
Shirzon the Quarter |
Which potion did I drink? The one from Roldare?
GM Giuseppe |
I think you're right. There wasn't a lot of actual choice, and most of the encounter would have depended on Shirzon getting through that door. I personally don't mind being botted for things that don't involve a lot of meaningful decision-making.
That was the main reason why I decided to do that. With so many unconscious character and so few decisions to make, it would have been a waste of precious time and momentum to actually wait for everyone to post for every single round.
GM Giuseppe |
Which potion did I drink? The one from Roldare?
You drank your own potion, and now you have the one from Roldare remaining ;)
Shirzon the Quarter |
Well, my plan to activate the wand failed. Rolled a Nat 1. :P
Korech should be able to use it, since cure light wounds is on the ranger spell list (even though he doesn't have a caster level yet). So we could do that, or use the potion I got from Roldare.
Calden Tigg |
Nah, that should be a special moment that he gets to roleplay himself.
I'm fine with resting. With 6 hours of rest Merephel would be staggered and able to use the wand. Calden would be halfway healed as well by then. It'd be a scary six hours for Shirzon and Korech in the middle of the dungeon, but I'm sure they'd cope. :P
Merephel Angorat |
That's fine with me...not that Merephel can attest to that fact.
Shirzon the Quarter |
If there's no immediate danger, resting actually sounds like a pretty good idea. Some downtime after the arrow pillar of death would do us some good.
GM Giuseppe |
Compliment guys, we've just hit your first level up in this game! Time to go back to your character sheet and taste a bit of fullfillment! Most PbP games not even hit their first level up, so...compliments guys!
Merephel Angorat |
YAY! That's great! More healing for everyone!
Merephel gains an extra prepared Orison, and an extra 1st level spell per day.
GM Giuseppe |
I Will suppose that after being healed you rest for an additional 2 hours to allow Merephel to prepare her spells again and restore her uses of channel energy except for those she has already used to heal you after 6 hours of rest.
Merephel Angorat |
That sounds good to me. I will update her accordingly.
Purify Food and Drink is back in, and for my new 1st level spell slot, she will be preparing Hide from Undead.
Shirzon the Quarter |
Shirzon gains evasion, and Weapon Finesse through the Finesse Rogue rogue talent!
I haven't done skills yet except Perception. I'll get them done soon, but I always take a while to decide skill ranks when I get more than 2. :P
Korech |
Woo! I come back and ding. Good times.
Hp gained: 8 (6+2)
Base attack: +1 (total +2)
Saves: +1 Fort and Reflex
Special gained: Combat style (archery) - Precise Shot
Skills (6 pts): +1 to survival, handle animal, perception, knowledge nature, stealth, swim (first rank)
GM Giuseppe |
Korech I believe you forgot to add your favored enemy bonus to both your attack and damage. I'll add it in my post ;)
Shirzon the Quarter |
Skills updated! I added an extra rank to most of my existing skills, and also picked up Escape Artist and Stealth.

So it seems like there are mostly skeletons in this crypt, which unfortunately means that the neat piercing and slashing masterwork and magical weapons we picked up are less useful. :P
Still, they all managed to make their way to Shirzon. Do we want to distribute them a little more evenly? We have:
Masterwork short sword: usable by Korech
+1 Dagger: usable by everyone (can't flurry of blows with it, though)
Masterwork crossbow: usable by everyone
Does anyone want to snag any of these? Or should I hold on to them for now?
Merephel Angorat |
I'm ok without. You guys enjoy!
Korech |
Same with Korech. The +1 dagger is of partial use, but the greataxe is there for overcoming DR. :D
Calden Tigg |
Some points:
- I assumed that Korech wanted me to lead from now on, since he's taken an archery feat, and also indicated as such in the gameplay thread.
- I don't need any of the weapons. I like that you snatched up the necklace, though, while trying to pawn off some of the weapons in this thread. :)
- Did we heal 1 point of strength when resting above? I asked earlier, but the question may have been lost in the shuffle.
GM Giuseppe |
No Calden, unfortunately you recover ability damage only at a 1/day rate if I remind correctly.
