Krissina |
Krissina tries to step away from some of the attackers, and swings her morning star, attacking the Goblin at L6.
Attack: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (17) + 1 = 18 Enlarged Morningstar: 1d10 + 2 ⇒ (7) + 2 = 9
GM_Fenwick |
Jovalson's strike unfortunately misses, but Krissina's knocks the goblin's head off with a brutal SNAP!
It is the end of the round.
By now, the angry mob has descended onto the beach and the incoming tide runs red with blood as the townsfolk slice into the remnants of the goblins that attacked their home.
This entire process of finishing off all the goblins takes...
Minutes: 1d5 ⇒ 3
Congratulations! You have won!
Rewards:
470 XP (For Everyone)
As the carnage dies down, what do you all do?
Krissina |
Krissina tries to get to the girl, make sure she's okay, and healing her wounds. Cure: 1d8 + 1 ⇒ (1) + 1 = 2
"Are you okay, you were so brave standing up to those goblins."
Varian Seldlon |
Slowly bleed out as I am unconscious. And at 0 HP lol.
Krissina |
Oops, sorry, Krissina will of course tend to the bleeding prone body before the conscious girl.
Cure Light Wounds on Varian: 1d8 + 1 ⇒ (2) + 1 = 3
The flame does not approve of my healing it seems
GM_Fenwick |
@Sarvin: No one seems to be accusing any of you of attracting goblins to the town. On the other hand, it seems like they're jubilant in finally striking back against the little buggers.
@Kriss: The girl looks up at you with wondering eyes as your magic flows through her and knits her flesh back together. When the healing is finished, she stumbles to her feet and attempts a small curtsey.
"Th-thank you, lady," she whispers in a shy voice, her aggressive demeanor suddenly gone.
Her friends that she was defending whoop and cheer and rush towards the pair of you, enveloping the two of you in a tight group hug.
@Varian: Your flesh knits back together enough for you to shakily get back onto your feet.
GM_Fenwick |
Appologies for the delay again. Last minute projects suck monumental ASS. Psychology, Government, Oceanography...I think this is my school's way of screwing me over before they let me go. And after four years of being the nicest and most well-behaved student for my teachers. I didn't even cut class even once in those four years! Damn it...
The girl sniffs and nods shyly as the rest of the children come to congregate around you. Within seconds, shouting parents and worried relatives are shoving their way through the assembled mob to embrace their kin, crying and praising the gods that they were unharmed and that both the heroes of Sandpoint and the citizens were able to make it in time before something tragic happened.
You all receive looks of gratitude and heartfelt thanks, accompanied by the odd savage grin caused by the fact that they struck back at the goblins together.
The crowd parts suddenly, and you all see Mayor Kendra and Sheriff Hemlock walk calmly towards you. She raises an eyebrow in a look that conveys that she wants to know what happened.
Brodert looks over your shoulder to take a look outside the town and makes sure that everything is alright. As soon as he's finished, he nods and beckons you back into the library.
"Where shall we begin?"
New Rule: Brodert's Library- All Knowledge checks gain a +10 bonus and enable players without the relevant skill to make checks of their own, with the exception of only a +5 bonus.
Sarvin the Greedy |
Where all the ambitious scholars begin, we learn what knowledge we have and what knowledge we don't... Once we know what we don't have we ensure that we get the missing knowledge... I believe that you have a point concerning the purpose of Old Light, to confirm that it was a weapon however we have to do several things...
First is we have to figure out why they built it, what kind of enemy justifies such an enormous and we must assume powerful weapon? Secondly how did they exactly power such a weapon? Did they store all the necessary magical energy on site or did they attempt to decrease the chances of an accident by storing the necessary power somewhere else? And if they did that what did they use to store the power?
These questions need answering... For I feel that old Thassilion in stirring, witness the Korvosa Academae... Every few years a student or someone else comes out an enchanter of far greater power then they should be, they all have one thing in common... The spells they use are remarkably similar in form and language to the spells of Thassilion...
Krissina |
Krissina curtsies to the mayor and sums up for the authorities.
"We heard a cry from the beach and came to help, the young lady here was defending the children against these goblins's so we rushed to help.
The girl here is the real hero, holding her own against the goblins and protecting her friends."
Varian Seldlon |
Varian smiles she sure saved me too she did! The blokes rushed me after I dropped to of em. They got me good, but not the lass there!
GM_Fenwick |
Just took the last final of my high school life! All I have left is graduation!
@The group on the beach:
Kendra nods briskly.
"On behalf of the town, you have my thanks for saving our children. You've already done a great deed last night, yet you continue to perform great acts of heroism. Truly, you are the heroes of Sandpoint!"
The crowd cheers in response. As they disperse, herded by the crowd, you all receive more offers of drink and meals, discounts and congratulations of heroism. The last civillian leaves, toting a goblin head souvineer, and the only one left on the beach aside from the PCs is Sheriff Hemlock.
He gives you a look-over before speaking: "I need to talk to all of you immediately. Barracks. My office." His look suggests that he would insist on your company.
Brodert responds: "Finally! A believer! See, Sandpoint is built in the edge of two of the seven kingdoms of Sin. My personal theory is that it was a weapon to drive off the enemies of one of the foes in the form of magical fire. I call it the 'Hellstorm Plume' theory!"
Sarvin the Greedy |
Not quite a believer, I do believe that the evidence points to it but it is not absolutely conclusive... One way we can puzzle out the question is to figure out when it was built, from there we can extrapolate the political and military situation of this border between the two kingdoms. By doing this we should be able to deduce who had the greater motive to build it... What I would give for a Thassilion tomb of a high ranking official at this moment, from what I remember of them each and every tomb that was found contained the writings of those interred within.
Old Light would probably not been left unguarded if it was a weapon of the sheer magnitude your suggesting, lets pull out some maps and read some books of Thassilion history and see what we can find...
knowledge (geography)1d20 + 9 ⇒ (3) + 9 = 12
Sarvin will take twenty on a Knowledge (history) check for a grand total of 39, rolling the knowledge (geography) check.
GM_Fenwick |
As soon as you all walk to the barracks, Hemlock slumps into his seat with a grunt of resignation. An opened letter is on the desk, its words traced in a graceful hand. After massaging his temple, he sighs and says:
"I understand that some of us may not...see eye-to-eye with our beliefs, but please understand me when I say that we must remain professional. So let us bury the hatchet and shove our grievances aside so we can deal with the bigger picture.
"The situation is even worse than I expected, what with goblin survivors on the beach. I ride for Magnimar within the hour to get reinforcements from the city, and I'm taking with me four of my best guards. As of this moment, I'm officially deputizing you as a part of Sandpoint Garrison and I want you to keep a constant look-out while I'm gone. The citizens seem to like you and you're more than capable with a sword. That's good enough for me."
Could you show me the math for that roll? I can understand taking 10, but unless you have an ability that says otherwise, I can't allow you to take 20...
Sarvin the Greedy |
I am going by the take twenty rules which stipulate that one can indeed take twenty on a roll (that is a skill your trained in) so long as they are in a non hazardous situation... This most certainly counts as such, Sarvin has a base of 9+ to knowledge (history), the library gives him 10 and taking twenty gives him 20. 20+10=30+9=39 If your going to amend the roll twenty rule make it a houserule and put it in campaign info. http://www.d20pfsrd.com/basics-ability-scores/glossary#TOC-Take-20 I am doing everything by the rulebook GM.
Varian Seldlon |
you can count on me sir! Varian snaps off a salute.
I will be ready this time...
Nante Once-Dead |
Nante gives a reserved nod. He still finds Hemlock's abandonment of tradition disquieting, but protecting the town is more important right now.
GM_Fenwick |
[Insert apology here] Father's Day, Final Exams, My Impending Graduation, etc.
[spoiler=@Sarvin]
Ah. Gotcha. Gimme a second to go rehearse for graduation (because my school necisates this obviously from the fact that somewhere along its history, someone really messed up when walking to get their diploma) and I'll come back with Brodert's response.
Hemlock continues:
"I will inform the town as soon as we're ready to ride to Magnimar. In the meanwhile, you can do as you see fit. Gods know that you guys deserve a break from all the insanity that's been happening lately."
Is there anywhere you wish to go? Weapons shop? Armory?
Varian Seldlon |
To the armory!
Krissina |
Don't know as we have any money to spend, we keep forgetting to loot.
Varian, are you still injured, you were pretty dire earlier? I can heal you back up if you need it.
Varian Seldlon |
ye still at 7/12 but he wouldn't show it willingly haha
GM_Fenwick |
Those that head back to the tavern find that the place is mostly empty, as most of the townsfolk are at the beach. Ameiko's gnome assistant smiles politely at you and asks if you need anything.
Varian: Is there anything in the armory in particular you're looking for?
What is everyone else doing?
Word to the wise: don't get strep throat in a third world country. It sucks a lot...
GM_Fenwick |
Forgot to include Brodert's response. Oops.
The sage nods and pulls several books off the shelves and spreads them out, unfurling old maps and pulling out tomes with obscure runeology and ideograms.
"If the map is right, then the Old Light is right on the border between two of the seven territories. But I'm not sure which wizard king the Old Light owes its allegiance to.."
Try rolling KN: History.
Varian Seldlon |
[/ooc] just any weapons or shields that seem to "stand out" whether they are unique, strange, better quality, or just plain old shinier haha. also, any type of reach/spear type weapons. [/ooc]
