"Fourth, we can teleport. If we get a good view of an arrival spot, such as one of the garrison towers with ballistae, we can have Sir Tandyn bring two others along with the wand of Dimension Door while I bring two others along with my own spell."

Dorek furrows his brow in concern. "That would only t-take care of six of us - what about N-nu..." Just then, Thawm bursts into flames, and his eyes flick nervously between her and the others. "T-thawm, you're on fire - are you o-okay?"

As Cecily storms off, Dorek hesitates for a moment, glancing back at Tandyn and Thawm. "D-don't worry, Tandyn - if we're r-resting before attacking the C-citadel, you can share my tent. I c-clawed yours up pretty b-badly, so it's only f-fair. Oh, and congratulations on being a n-new mother, Thawm!" He scurries after the noblewoman, plucking anxiously at the other tiefling's sleeve. "Are you o-okay, Cecily? You s-seem upset, and it's going to be a l-long assault on the C-citadel. I know you d-don't like Tandyn, but we'll have to w-work together if we're going to take D-drezen."

He glances back at the command tent, scratching at the base of one of his horns as he thinks. "T-thawm wanted to r-rest before we s-started the attack - lay s-siege to the Citadel, that sort of t-thing, before we go in t-tomorrow. I think she's s-sleepy from her egg hatching. I d-don't think Tandyn's tent is repaired yet, but he's going to s-sleep with me until that's t-taken care of, so I t-think that's all set." Turning back to the bloodrager, he raises his eyebrows in a query, grinning in his mildly concussed way. "So, w-what was it you wanted to talk to N-nurah about? Are you going to s-scout the Citadel while everyone else r-rests? Can I j-join?"

Tandyn stands there blinking for a moment still taking in everything he'd heard as half of the party departs.

"No... no, we must guard each other's honor." He states resolutely and far too late. "Thawm, Cecily shouldn't have said such unwelcome things. I may need to have a word with her. And for whatever reason I believe that your leaning on me upset her, so in the interests of calming things down I must request that you lean elsewhere." He moves slightly so that she must support herself. "We've accomplished much today. Perhaps you're right and we should rest before entering the Citadel. As for me, well, I'd like to get back to planning this out" He nods to Aroden. "That Western wall breach could let us take the sally port and gatehouse from the less defended side... which would then let our armies inside to set up some defenses..."

After several long discussions about the various routes, Tandyn heads back to the camp. He approaches Cecily and clears his throat. "Baroness Leeford, I must ask you to take more care with the 'honor of your fellows' regardless of virtue or trollopness as per the goddess's code." With his oath responsibilities settled, his posture relaxes. "Alright, so has anyone found the deer jerky? There has to be a way to do this..."

"It is a little disappointing to go back and rest so soon. That battle with the berbalang was not terribly taxing. And I would expect that it may take us more than one day to clear such a massive citadel of its demonic leaders.
Nevertheless, we seem to have the time and need not be overly hasty. I will use some of my prepared spells for the day to do some scouting."

Aroden removes his chain shirt, then takes 10 minutes to cast Arcane Eye. He can maintain the sensor for 8 minutes, and it has a speed of 300' per minute. As a scrying sensor, it is also a Perception DC 24 (adjusted for range) for enemies to notice, and enemies can attempt to Dispel it if they notice it.

First he will send the Arcane Eye up to the top of the tower, where the Celestial Beacon was. He assumes the doors at the bottom of the stairs are closed and won't have a 1-inch gap. So instead of sending the sensor down the stairs, he will try to go in what appear to be windows around the second-from-the-top level of the tower to see what that room is.
Then he will send the Eye to check out the lower Tower level (with the ballistae), then the Northern Arcade, then the Parapet, then the East Garrison, then the four Gatehouse towers, then the West Garrison, then the gap in the wall north of the West Garrison. If there are slits big enough to shoot ballistae through, then the Eye can get it.

Basically looking for what guards are manning each position.

After the Arcane Eye expires or is dispelled, Aroden will take another 10 minutes to cast Clairvoyance. This has a 720' range. He will attempt to use Clairvoyance in the middle of the Secret Vault next to Iomedae's Chapel. If it is magically dark, he sees nothing. If it is normally dark, he sees in a 10' radius around the scrying sensor.

His scrying done, he puts his armor back on and goes to study spellbooks.

At 4 hours for a 3rd-level spell and 3 hours for a 2nd-level spell, he should be able to get 2 done today. Looking at Magic Circle Against Evil from Aravashnial's spellbook and Fog Cloud from the dwarf's spellbook. At a +16 he makes it on Take 10. Cost to scribe is 90+40 = 130 GP.

Cecily snatches her arm away from Dorek. "I'm FINE, Dorek. No, I'm not going scouting. I'm going to go care for my horse. Err, talk to Nurah. Then care for my horse." An aggressive and thorough brushing session is in her immediate future.

When Tandyn catches up and chastises her, she freezes for a moment. Her eyes tense slightly, and she sets her jaw. "Thawm's business is her own, until it reflects poorly on the company she keeps. We have an image to uphold, and casual dalliances with unknown partners or birds will cause a scandal. If she was honoring us, we would not be needing to worry about such things."

We trust her decisions, it's not really our business, and some dragons are kinda cute. In any case, the same goes for Thawm's relationship fowl or not. Let's give her the benefit of the doubt. Celestial Beacon

The tower’s open rooftop seems to have once featured a gold-and-ivory inlay of a conjuration circle, but only the faintest remnants of the magic circle are visible today. It is no longer functional for that purpose.

One Level Below

An open-air terrace looks out from the northwest side of the citadel, its interior shattered and broken. A pile of treasure lies gathered in the southeast corner, while a narrow band of stairs is half-seen just above the nearby rubble choking the entrance.

Assuming you’re not going to spend the time cataloging the treasure since that would be an encounter. You can tell it's quite the haul though.

Ground floor, tower, outer

There are seven ballistae that are gathering dust here.

Northern Arcade

One wall of this long arcade features several arrow-slits looking out over the northern part of Drezen. A trio of soldiers in shining breastplates and carrying well cared for two-bladed swords and composite longbows lounge lazily within the walls here. Two of them track Aroden’s arcane eye, instead of getting help they give the eye a rude gesture. That’s one encounter.

Parapet

A cascade of rubble has fallen through from the upper parapets into this ruined armory, creating a rise of debris that allows access to the citadel’s northernmost parapet. A quartet of Brimorak demons stand watch here. Upon spotting the eye, one teleports away somewhere unseen. That's two encounters, ending the spell.

Secret Vault

A metal rod on which hangs a magnificent banner depicting a sword before a sunburst is raised up in the hands of a statue of an armored woman to the north. Just south of the statue sits a gleaming alabaster altar. Another four statues flank the room, each wearing a real suit of metal armor, while to the south hangs a tattered red and gold tapestry.

The statue and the altar are twitching very subtly, as if a muscle was spasming.

"The good news is that the Sword of Valor appears to still be in its vault. But it seems from the map we would have a task getting there."

Aroden shares his observations and then studies the map.

"My recommendation is that tomorrow we start with the treasure room in the tower. It may be a trap, but it's a wide open area that is unoccupied, so we should be able to Dimension Door without appearing in a solid body and being shunted. Perhaps we will find something of use. From there, we can take the stairs down to the northwest tower, then to the northern arcade, and then south to the court and hopefully continue to the Inheritor's Chapel and the Secret Vault."

"The broken wall on the west side could also work. My spell did not manage to scout that area."

Tandyn listens intently to Aroden's findings while glancing at the map. "Let's talk through each route... there's a lot going on here."

Knight Commander Ahmose Subtlety Jones wrote:

He shakes his head "No, that's certainly worthwhile, but priority one is still restoring the Sword of Valor to keep the demons from teleporting back here. Remember, the main demon forces should be fighting Queen Galfrey down South. The demons here have probably told them about us, so hopefully that means Queen Galfrey cannot be ignored. In any case, Aroden has confirmed they they never even moved the Sword of Valor from the vault which seems like quite the tactical blunder... perhaps it hurts the demons to touch it or something. So first we'll hit the vault, and then we can go after the treasure."

Tandyn continues to pore over the map and discuss the various entry points. "So, one thing I keep noticing is that the Citadel breaks up into several large sections that all connect to the courtyards. Without teleporting or breaking solid dwarven walls, they seem to be the key to holding or taking this fortress. No matter where we enter, they will expect to be able to stop us there. We can get to the vault and avoid the entire choke point by entering through the Western breach." He looks around the group for agreement. "Alright, let's get some rest and head out bright and early."

"A sound plan. Now, I anticipate that they will see us approaching the breach. So even if there are not normally any guards there, we might find some by the time we arrive.
I will keep Dimension Door ready, and Sir Tandyn, I would suggest you keep the wand ready as well. If the welcoming committee is larger than we can handle, or has specific magic we need to prepare to defend against, then regrouping may be in order. We may be able to simply plow through them, but it doesn't hurt to prepare for contingencies."

The party strangely finds no opposition from this breach and is able to venture fairly deep into the citadel heading towards the Iomadae's chapel. The door is locked but Dorek easily opens it, Nearly all the doors are locked but Dorek can take 10 to open most of them.

Inheritor's Chapel

Two rows of stone benches occupy face a raised dais to the north, on which stands a twelve-foot-tall statue of an armored woman with a sword and shield. Faded tapestries hang in tatters to either side, and a larger one on the south wall depicts the armored woman on bended knee before a man wearing green robes. Three smaller, human-sized statues of armored knights stand within small alcoves to the west, each holding a longsword pointing downward.

Within you find a vision of the inheritor, resplendent and glorious. She does not wear her normal gleaming full plate but does possess a polished longsword hanging from her hip. Six crusaders sit in the pews in rapt attention to the woman.

As you enter the chapel, Iomadae, turns and smiles at you warmly. "Faithful, I have come to bless you in your efforts to take the citadel."

She gestures to Tandyn, "My son, please approach to receive my blessing."

Dorek steps back as the lock clicks, nodding to Tandyn as the paladin takes up position - when the others are ready, he pushes open the door, prepared for a fight, but is entirely unprepared for the strange scene before him.

Theology Accurate theology has never been his forte, so he looks to Tandyn for guidance regarding the deity, though his brow does furrow as he catches sight of the crusaders in the pews, and he hisses a question to his allies. "What's with them in the b-benches? I thought we were s-supposed to be the advance s-scouts?"

He clears his throat. "Oh if only... You're dallying about in an enemy fortress with neither armor nor shield on Golarion... You may look like my goddess, but that's about it. Did I miss anything, Aroden?"
