Thanks guys, that means a lot :)
And don't worry, you guys will have to put in some effort if you want to get rid of me (and Florence and Bynx) >:)
As far as number of games goes, uh...27-28ish before dropping some...though not all of them are as active as this one. I actually largely dropped the sluggish ones and/or the ones where I could just tell that I wasn't 'into it' as much as others. There were also one or two that are basically dead in the water unless the other players want to get a new GM. I've done pretty good keeping up with them but gradually began to feel overwhelmed so rather than let them all suffer for it, decided to lose some so I can better focus on the ones that remain. That's actually a good lesson for people new to PbP or looking to get into PbP - it's easy for things to spiral out of hand because you think, 'Oh that game is just 1-2 more posts a day to make, I can do that'...and then if you do that a bunch you end up with a ton of games and not enough time for them all :\

Wow. And I thought I had a lot.
I don't have that many, but I don't have any that I consider to be dead in the water. I have one that is sluggish, a few that are slow, most that are medium/variable, and a few that are good/consistent.
(Not-so) Strangely, the GM Evilan ones are in the last category.
Nidhi, are you looking for more games?
Nidhi Aashirya |
What do you consider sluggish? 1 post from a GM every 3 or 4 days? Or is that normal?
I'm currently in 3 games and I'm really interested in the zombie apocalypse one but it's SO SLOW! I'm really disappointed. I thought from what the GM initially posted about expectations that it was going to be fairly upbeat (1 to 3 posts a day from the DM.)

That's sluggish.
I'm in a game with Evilan like that, and it's the worst one I'm in. But since that crew is the same as our Shackled City yahoos, it's good.
Nah, I need at least one post a day OR notes like "I'm busy at work and won't be posting until Wednesday"/"Going on vacay with the Wife to Caribbean" to make it worthwhile.
I just can't stand apathy and meh gaming.

The only reason why I kept checking the recruitment subforum was because I feared that GM Euan started a recruitment for a new campaign without informing me...which is precisely what happened. After I managed to be selected for this campaign, however, I stopped checking the recruitment subforum.
I'm currently in two games as a player and two as a GM. I always try to make my games flow fast, both as a player and as a GM, because I feel like my commitment to a campaign is directly proportional to its pace. The slower a game progresses, the less I feel involved and motivated to stay "in character". It's so hard to find fast-paced games, though. Many games have a decent pace during the first month or so, but the vast majority of them collapse soon thereafter. I try to avoid such things in my own games, and as a player I try to be as consistent as possible in order to keep the Gameplay Thread alive and interesting.
Anyway, if you reason like this, you must resign to the fact that you can't be part of more than 5-6 games at the sime time, I suppose.

The good professor brings up an important issue.
Can a cantrip (detect magic) bypass the discovery difficulty of a sophisticated magical trap?
Well, in some cases yes. Symbols and other purely magical traps will be identified with detect magic. Often getting close enough to detect them though will already set them off, but not always.
However, other traps, whose magics don't trigger until the trap triggers, may not be found with detect magic. The rules aren't crystal clear on this (though they are less supportive of my view I admit), but I lean toward making traps difficult and spells less powerful.
So if a trap has a physical trigger (opening, touching, etc.) you might not see it with something as common and low level as detect magic. The magics are not present until activated.
So Benedictus' recent statement that there are no magical traps in the room is true, but there may still be a trap whose effects are magical.
Prof. Benedictus Dickens |
Good to know GM, thanks for the clarification. The ruling makes perfect sense to me ;)
Prof. Benedictus Dickens |
I'm intentionally playing Benedictus as a little reckless in this first dungeon. That's because I think he would take his first exploration more like a game than a real threat...but don't worry, he'll soon learn to stay back and cast spells (provided next time I manage to choose them well XD).

Hey Zilchens--
I'm headed down to Mexico for the next 9 days. Since it's the beachy, resorty part, they offer and should have ample wifi and whatnot. However, there are no guarantees, like some orange baboon erecting an expensive and entirely unnecessary digital wall to keep internet traffic from going to and fro Mexico...
...anyhoot, if I fail to post in a timely manner, feel free to GMPC me.

I've taken a look at the treasure sheet, made some updates (e.g. correcting who's carrying the wand) and I think that we should take everything in that list with us. Carrying the sarcophagi or the mirror seems like a hard task, but we can always return later with more adequate means.
GM Euan |
Don't worry about who is 'currently' carrying the wand - that will drive you nuts. The treasure sheet is a snapshot in time. That's where things went when the party first collected the items. Things can change from there and don't necessarily need to be updated.

Level up!
I do believe you should now be level 2.
Please note your characters leveling in a similar way to this (link). So list the things that changed, and put it all in a spoiler so those who don't want to know your build can remain in the dark.
Augustus, now is when you must change classes, so rebuild your underpinnings to level two with the new class. Let me know if you need some assistance. :)
Below is my synopsis of things so far. I'll note it every time you level. Might not be accurate, but it's what I noted for myself at the time, so it should be pretty close...
Sunday, 1 Sarenith, 4714
- The party meets in the Mueaddat Almalaki Wadar Aleamm, also known as ‘Milki’, and meets the proprietor, Abdur Raqeeb al-Shabazz, their sponsor in the upcoming digs.
- Planning to work together, the group heads to Nidhi’s grandmothers on the way to the Tooth and Hookah. Grandma’s visit was nice, if short, and the party makes it in time to get a fine table for supper.
- They dine and converse, getting to know each other a little better and enjoy the lovely singing voice of Lirgala, whom Augustus wants to get to know better.
Moonday, 2 Sarenith, 4714
- Most of the party heads to Tephu, while Nidhi spends the day working in her grandmothers shop.
- The library, while vast and impressive, is also expensive. Can the party afford the research? Why yes they can and do, devoting the day to the library’s research.
- They learn some about the Necropolis, but nothing of particular note. They also know they’ve just scratched the surface.
- Nidhi spends the evening wandering Wati a little, getting to know the locale and watches part of a burial. Augustus also has a very lovely evening with Lirgala.
Toilday, 3 Sarenith, 4714
- The party has a relaxing and uneventful day, and assembles at Abdur’s Milki later in the day, many of them early.
- They head over to the church of Pharasma and join the lottery!
- The lottery itself is quite the festival atmosphere, and the party gets what Abdur thinks is a good start.
Wealday, 4 Sarenith, 4714
- The party enters the Necropolis!
- They have no trouble making it to the tomb of Akhentepi thought the initial sets of doors prove to be quite difficult to open.
- A few traps aside, the early chambers reveal nothing but history, though the carvings are well done.
- The cats raise some philosophical and religious questions, and the group decides to leave them be for now.
- After examining the chariot and the masks, the party engages a short battle with the warrior dolls, one of whom is captured and questioned, but with little result.
- When the reach the mirror, things go a bit sideways, as Akhentepi looks upon them from their midst, and he is not pleased.
- A couple spiders and a sand… thing, and the party finally finds the crypt of Akhentepi… or have they?
- Nidhi skillfully avoids the flood, but the party has some trouble with the sarcophagus as Augustus is trapped inside, nearly running out of air.
- Passing through yet more doors, some secret, the group discovers the funerary goods! Most are of little value now, but a few are worth something.
- Another secret door, and an iron cobra later, and the party discovers the final burial place for Akhentepi. Somewhat carefully, everything is looted and prepared for hoisting above.
- One last room is discovered and searched, as the slave-crypt is uncovered and cracked.
- The party carefully hauls everything they can back up the shaft and into the sunlight.

BAB: +1
Fort Save: +0
Ref Save: +1
Will Save: +1
Specials: Versatile performance, Well-versed.
Versatile Performance (Ex): At 2nd level, a bard can choose one type of Perform skill. He can use his bonus in that skill in place of his bonus in associated skills. When substituting in this way, the bard uses his total Perform skill bonus, including class skill bonus, in place of its associated skill's bonus, whether or not he has ranks in that skill or if it is a class skill. At 6th level, and every 4 levels thereafter, the bard can select an additional type of Perform to substitute.
The types of Perform and their associated skills are: Act (Bluff, Disguise), Comedy (Bluff, Intimidate), Dance (Acrobatics, Fly), Keyboard Instruments (Diplomacy, Intimidate), Oratory (Diplomacy, Sense Motive), Percussion (Handle Animal, Intimidate), Sing (Bluff, Sense Motive), String (Bluff, Diplomacy), and Wind (Diplomacy, Handle Animal).
Well-Versed (Ex): At 2nd level, the bard becomes resistant to the bardic performance of others, and to sonic effects in general. The bard gains a +4 bonus on saving throws made against bardic performance, sonic, and language-dependent effects.
Spells per day: +1 Level 1 spell (I picked Charm Person)
Charm Person: Link Standard Action, Range 25ft +5ft/2 levels, 1 humaniod creature, Duration 1 hour/level, Will negates; Spell Resistance yes. This charm makes a humanoid creature regard you as its trusted friend and ally (treat the target's attitude as friendly). If the creature is currently being threatened or attacked by you or your allies, however, it receives a +5 bonus on its saving throw.
The spell does not enable you to control the charmed person as if it were an automaton, but it perceives your words and actions in the most favorable way. You can try to give the subject orders, but you must win an opposed Charisma check to convince it to do anything it wouldn't ordinarily do. (Retries are not allowed.) An affected creature never obeys suicidal or obviously harmful orders, but it might be convinced that something very dangerous is worth doing. Any act by you or your apparent allies that threatens the charmed person breaks the spell. You must speak the person's language to communicate your commands, or else be good at pantomiming.
Skill ranks: 6 + 0 Int Mod = 6 Bluff +1, Diplomacy +1, Knowledge (Dungeoneering) +1, Knowledge (Religion) +1, Perception +1, Sense Motive +1, Knowledge (Nobility) +1 BACKGROUND SKILL, Linguistics +1 BACKGROUND SKILL

Hey everyone, I'm not feeling good today and I likely won't be able to post. Please bot me as necessary.
GM Euan |
Yes, get well soon sir! No rush as far as the game is concerned, we'll manage a bit.
Prof. Benedictus Dickens |
Hey guys, I'm finally starting to feel better and I'll catch up as soon as possible, most likely within the day.
Prof. Benedictus Dickens |
I will poster later this evening in the Gameplay Thread. In the meantime, here's a list of what Ben is buying.
Wealth before purchases 5 pp, 10 gp, 2 sp, 7 cp + 190 gp (party divvy) = 5 pp, 200 gp, 2 sp, 7 cp
Ben's purchases dagger (2 gp), flask of acid (10 gp), alchemist's fire (20 gp), components for scroll of enlarge person (12.5 gp), scroll of stumble gap (25 gp), scroll of grease (25 gp).
Wealth spent on purchases 94.5 gp
Wealth after purchases 5 pp, 105 gp, 7 sp, 7 cp
Prof. Benedictus Dickens |
I'll also add a set of 10 crossbow bolt for an additional gp, since I suppose Ben has used most of his ammunitions in the tomb of Akhentepi.
Florence Corvina |
Okay as far as group stuff goes:
Piton x10 = 1gp
Crowbar = 2gp
Shovel x2 = 4gp
Mule = 8 gp
So that's 15gp spent from the group kitty; easy enough to adjust if we decide that everyone must have their own personal shovel or crowbar or anything like that :3
_____________
Florence's Gold After Divy: 243 gp, 1 sp
Florence's personal purchases: Acid x3 (30gp), Alchemist's Fire x2 (40gp), Holy Water (25gp)
Florence's crafting: 50gp spent to brew one Cure Light Wounds potion, CL 2.
Personal Gold Remaining: 98gp, 1sp
Bear with me on the crafting stuff, normally I don't bother so I might make some mistakes on pricing from time to time.
Zilchus Lyghtlode |
I have returned...but either late last night or LATE LATE last night, depending on if you could the time when you arrive home or the time of the place you left.

Just as a heads up, I know we are starting on the next tomb but my posting availability for this Friday and Saturday will be after 10pm EST or MAYBE early in the morning. (That's a slim maybe.) Sunday will resume normally. I may read it on my phone during the day, but I probably won't be available to respond until the late evening.
GM Euan |
I am sad to announce that Augustus is no longer with us. He has been called back home, and must leave Wati. :(
I am approaching another potential player, but we'll see what happens. I may delay us a little to try and introduce a new person prior to the next tomb, which we're otherwise ready to enter I think (lots of posts in the gameplay thread overnight that I haven't read yet).
So if we're a little slow this weekend, that's fine.
Prof. Benedictus Dickens |
So sad to hear about that :( Anyway, I'm also curious about our possible new companion! GM, do you wish us to slow down a little with pushing so that you can have time to introduce the new character?
