Jin quickly assesses the situation.
Take care everyone, these are Naga's, horribly poisonous and capable spellcasters in their own right. I recommend spreading out!
With that Jin calls out a swift incantation bringing the wrath of the gods down on the two upper creatures. Bright light illuminates the whole chamber momentarily dazzling the spectators but (hopefully) searing the flesh and blinding the enemy.
He then takes off into the arena to create a little space.
Each of them takes Damage: 5d8 ⇒ (8, 3, 5, 7, 5) = 28 damage (assuming they are evil) and needs to make a DC23 will save. If they pass they take half damage. If they fail they are also blinded for 1 round. If they are neutral they take half damage and cannot be blinded. If they are good they are unaffected (unlikely!).
I am unsure if they have SR so here are some rolls.
SR Penetration Spirit Naga: 1d20 + 13 ⇒ (13) + 13 = 26
SR Penetration Dark Naga: 1d20 + 13 ⇒ (13) + 13 = 26
He then flies towards the centre of the arena (what is the ceiling height). If it is not blind and has combat reflexes he will be provoking from the Spirit Naga

A bright light washes over the two northern nagas and they both wince in pain. The center one begins writing around as it's vision has been overcome by the light, and it is promptly filled with arrows from the rogue.
After the first few cuts Roary is pretty sure that the Naga is dead, but he swings once more just to make sure.

Slow to respond to the onslaught, Shins casts his magic to inspire a unwavering hope within the party before chasing after Roary to support him while spreading out from the rest of the group.
Everyone but Jin-Goro has been hit with Good Hope granting you all +2 morale bonuse to virtually all d20 rolls and weapon damage rolls.

With that Jin flies forward to bring the northern group with range, floating to a stop, closing his eyes he begins to chant, his voice takes on a sing song quality and the area fills with the scent of jasmine. Smoke begins to pour from his nose, mouth and ears and as his eyes snap open he exhales an enormous cloud of sweet smelling incense which engulfs the northern perimeter.

Quiven pierces the Naga with 3 shots, and then Hiram knocks the Naga out with his well placed strike and several members of the crowd cheer.
Reflex for Roary: 1d20 + 16 ⇒ (16) + 16 = 32
At the same time Roary moves forward hoping to beat Hiram to the punch but has his charge interrupted as the ground gives out from under him with a loud crack. Apparently the trapdoors that the monsters appeared from don't support an average human's weight (read, medium creature) so long as the lifts are down at the base... which they appear to be. Thankfully Roary is quick enough on his feet to abruptly end his charge and hop back to avoid the long drop into the basement.
Now that you are aware of the hazard, it is a DC 5 perception check to notice all of the trapdoors, so I'll mark them on the map when I get some more time.
The tengu swordsmen in the ground nod with respect at your skill, while several of the oni begin to jeer.
From the back of the audience you hear the voice of someone, likely one of the organizers barking out orders to record your victory and send the next opponents. A pair of oni in the audience turn and nod with grins, and stand up.
A few rounds pass during the duration of this exchange, so track buffs accordingly, once I reroll initiative I'll keep the round counter up to date from the beginning (so it will begin with round 4 or 5 or however much time has passed.
Jin-Goro, if you wish to trigger your readied action as they stand they'll still be in the crowd and you are likely to catch non-combatants. Otherwise I'll be rerolling initiative once everyone has regrouped however they wish to regroup.

Just a note GM, but his reflex is +16 vs spells/sla's etc only.. Would only add +9 to that roll, which is prob good enough, just wanted to let you know.
Just so I can make a decision, we are entering round 3 and new initiative will be round 4 or 5?

![]() |

You are entering round 3. Orders have been given for your next opponent and it looks as though some folk are accepting the challege. Whether it's round 4, 5, or 6 is anyone's guess, but expect them to make their way down anywhere from imminently to ~20 seconds. Also you totally passed that reflex save either way.
In fact I'll do this since I'm a trusting GM... Everyone decide what you wish to do and I'll put the round count in a spoiler tag below. You can decide on your course of action, read the tag, then figure out how much you get done and place yourself accordingly. I should get the next challenge started late tonight. I'm in southern california, so all times I give are Pacific Standard Time.

Wei will bow to the tengu respectfully.

A pair of Oni fly out on to the battlefield, while drawing their blades and ready themselves for combat. With a shout from somewhere in the crowd they leap into action, although Quiven, Jin Goro, and Wei Ji recognize this as indication that the fight is on and snap into action!
Wei-Ji and Jin-Goro recognize these as Oni Mages.
Jin-Goro, I think your roll was high enough to just go ahead and read the PRD entry for Oni and report whatever you feel is pertinent.

Since I didn't really make it clear and didn't have the chance to note it before the fight, Quiven will use his new wand of Longstrider on himself if he can't get one of the party members to do it for him.

Without time to reset Roary will just stay in rage..
Once Roary see's the Oni flying he pulls a fly potion a quaffs it..
From the description it sounds like they are seen flying round 4 and enter the fray round 5. If this is correct Roary will drink the pot round 4.. If not it will be his action round 5.

![]() |

If Roary remained in rage then I think he also needs a will save against the resist energy. The DC is 22

Bow: 1d20 + 15 ⇒ (6) + 15 = 21 for Arrow: 1d4 + 6 ⇒ (4) + 6 = 10

![]() |

Given that the Oni were identified clearly by multiple members of the party, I'd say that it's a safe bet you were able to quaff your potion in time to begin.
The southern most Oni takes a few shots from Quiven, but having watched the last bout decides to move into a much less lethal location with respect to the raging barbarian. It doesn't seem to have quite recognized the ward that Jin-Goro weaved about the party and unleashes it's cone of cold directly onto Hiram, Shins, and Jin-Goro.
Cold Damage: 9d6 ⇒ (2, 6, 2, 4, 1, 6, 1, 4, 3) = 29 Reflex DC 18 for half
The Tengu in the audience seem a bit disappointed with the Oni's lack of sportsmanship.

The tengu sighs a bit as he sees the oni continue their painfully annoying assault from above and shakes his head.
There's a brief beat as wings unfurl from his back and he launches himself skywards towards the nearest entity, blade and sword out.
"I'll start on this one, y'all get the other one!"
You can grow wings that allow you to fly.
Prerequisites: Character level 5th, tengu.
Benefit: Once per day, you can sprout a pair of giant black crow's wings, granting you a fly speed of 30 feet (average maneuverability). This spell-like ability otherwise functions as beast shape I (though you do not gain any other benefits of that spell) with a caster level equal to your level.

Taka Reflex: 1d20 + 8 + 1 + 2 ⇒ (5) + 8 + 1 + 2 = 16
They are both able to dodge the bulk of the blast, but some of the wave hits the pair with Taka stumbling to put Shins between him in the blast. He is surprised that Jin's ward repels the cold and gives an appreciative 'ook' to the flying spellcaster and a taunt to the enemy.
Taka fails, but has improved evasion, both take half which is less than the energy resistance they both currently have.
Good Hope lasts minutes per level, so should end on round 90.

Hiram: Unfortunately demoralize requires them to be within 30 ft, but with a check like that check I'll start at least a little something in motion.
The tengu in the audience begin to make whistles towards the Oni, clearly in agreement with Hiram.
It looks as though Roary has a fly speed of 40 due to his armor, so ascending at half speed at a 45 degree angel will put him out of charging range. I assume he'll want to make his way up to at least line up a charge, so I'll have him double move this round.

Hiram's whip catches onto the Oni's blade but as he tugs the sword doesn't give. With a bit of timely inspiration, he gets the idea to loosen his grip on the whip for one split second... and the Oni is caught by surprise. The massive blade clatters to the ground.
Wei-Ji pummels the Oni, cutting and bashing at the outsider. The oni reels back, avoiding a few of the strikes but suffers most of the assault.
Since the red Oni closed distance a bit, Roary will need to make a DC 10 fly check if he wishes to full attack, unless he wishes to charge at green. I'll give some time for him to choose his action.
