You guys are killing me with these names, haha.
All questions about the build don't mean you can't play it, just that I need an answer for why it is that way other than "Because it's powerful".
@Zeibodug: Interesting stat distribution and class choice for a 15 point buy. Questions: Why would a dwarf learn Goblin, especially since you kept Hatred as a dwarf trait? Why have a character that seems to go all rage-minded (Ragechemist, Feral Mutagen), but you take Panther Stance and Improved Thief Maneuvers? Seems at odds to me. Comment: Accelerated Drinker only works with potions, not other things like Extracts or Mutagens.
Other than that, it looks like you gestalted correctly.
Ha, no problem - good questions!
Goblin - ya, no thought went into that one other than "know thy enemy". And I only kept Hatred because I didn't really see anything appropriate to swap it out with - truly this character probably doesn't hate anyone that much.
For the rest, I think it is best to describe what I was thinking and how I got there. Most of my characters have a double inspiration - I don't know why, I just like to combine strange characters. Because gestalt was a mixing of classes, I went a little overboard and decided to combine two pairs. The first one is, of course, classic Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde. So by day, I will play him as kind, calm and intelligent - and not prone to violence (hence the monk rather than barbarian, and the lack of weapons). But when he takes his "medicine", the personality will change. The secondary pair is a bit more of a stretch, but it is Bob and Doug McKenzie (for which the name is an anagram for...). This accounts for some of the humor and the background in brewing, and the accelerated drinking (which yes, I knew wasn't applicable to extracts, but it just fit with the flavor and will occasionally have some benefit). I was actually going to take drunken master, but while the flavor text was right, the actual implementation wasn't. So the open hand fit nicely with the concept of improvising weapons.
Feats were sort of at the end of my process, and here I was a bit torn. I ended up taking panther style just because I like the thought of this guys trying to pick his way through a battle, but smacking anyone who doesn't like him moving. Honestly, though, I would be happy with other suggestions. Point blank range or precise bombs would probably be more useful, but seem more military and less reactionary. As for the Thief Maneuvers, I really just wanted Disarm, but was happy to take the package. Again, as a non-weapon wielder who works with improvised weapons, it just seemed more entertaining to take someone's weapon and beat them with it, especially when under the influence.
Even feral was more for flavor, since as a monk he already has unarmed attacks. But the idea here will be to fight the urge to "beast out", but then when he does, he'll be large, ugly and somewhat out of his mind.
The goal will be to eventually become a Master chymist.
The tentacle was what I thought might make the eyebrows raise, but again - this guy likes to brew strange concoctions, and sometimes they just don't go right... I do think that will help with the potions and accelerated drinking.
So if anyone has some tweaks to recommend, I am all ears! (and given the wrong elixir someday, might literally be all ears....)

Are we going to have a full divine caster on the team? If not, I'll take CMW as a 2nd level bard spell known.
Rajendra Sastri |
Jace is a life oracle, and gets CMW automatically at L4.
Rajendra Sastri |
Elena, what's your area of focus as a caster? I'm thinking to go primarily with spells that increase combat utility, and secondarily with divinations; I figure that Rajendra can dish out enough damage with arrows that he doesn't need any blasting spells.
Elena Lovain |
Acid/earth is my focus on the arcanist side. I've not really figured out a bardic focus yet. She's a bit all over the place on her bardic spells so far.
Rajendra Sastri |
I think I have Rajendra's profile done, with the exception of his gear. Standard WBL for L4 (6000 gp)?
Elena Lovain |
AlRight, Elena is updated. Everything except her header should be correct. I'm on my iPad for a day or two and can't get the skills, CMD, and Perception updated. I'll do that this week.
GM Bold Strider |
No wealth at the moment, Raj and Zie. 6,000GP each would put you vastly over the group as it is, lol.
Interesting to see a lot of people go with Paladins, Alchemists and Monks for their builds.
No Rogues, Fighters, Wizards or Clerics yet... (aka, the classic party).

@Zie:
Tentacles and Monks, I could see. Working to improve your form and such. Trying to make your body better to make you better. I get it.
With regards to the Feral Mutagen, that is going to take some heavy feat investment if you plan on flurrying with the natural weapons.
Panther Style is good mechanically, but since you have Imp. Thief Maneuvers, you might want to give Kitsune Style a chance. I'd let you take Combat Expertise instead of Combat Reflexes for your 2nd monk feat, if you wanted to try that. A down and dirty scrapper seems up the alley of what you have described.
I'd say scrap Goblin for a language that might fit better. If you do go the Kitsune Style route, then you could take Tien to show how you trained there.
Other than that, your profile looks good.

@Raj:
Everything looks pretty standard.
Can't think of anything as Sorcs and Zen Archers are pretty stuck with what they got.
We all ready to rock?
Rajendra Sastri |
So, starting gold for L1?
Ziebodug Bandmocken |
Sold! Yes, I like that feat chain better - fits both with the passive personality and the aggressive one.
Regarding flurry with natural, I wasn't really considering that. I just like the feral mutagen for flavor :)
Regarding equipment, I don't know what the plan is, but Zieb doesn't need much - mostly he would be concentrating on collecting buff potions, which he can reuse with Alchemical allocation elixirs. A bandoleer of metal flasks would seem a wise investment.
Rajendra Sastri |
Rajendra is all equipped. I assumed 70 gp starting (as per sorcerer) plus the bow.

Another question re your house rules, GM B. You wrote:
Weapon Finesse and Power Attack are free feats that you gain when you meet the requirements.
Is Deadly Aim also a free feat?
Rajendra Sastri |
No worries; I didn't realize until I started setting the character up just how many feats zen archers got, and I've already budgeted for Deadly Aim.
Incidentally, I saw an FAQ entry about how Power Attack and Combat Expertise scale with effective flurry BAB (i.e., monk level instead of regular BAB) when used with a flurry of blows--do you also run Deadly Aim that way?
Elena Lovain |
Jace and Jim probably each need an amulet of natural armor from the kitty. There's a magical long sword, and a magical breastplate there for one of them as well.
Jim Seeker |
Bodug and I will probably copy over some things from/to each other's formula books. It looks like he only has the two that I don't, however.
Karu the Bold Strider |
Sorry for the delay. I was unconscionably absent for two days then had to interrupt updating today to go to work. While at work, I sliced open my thumb and spent some time getting stitches and then had to rush to my local game.
I've been bad about keeping this game going at a good pace and I want you to know that I will do better starting tomorrow morning.

Well make sure you keep your thumb. It's the only thing separating you from the grazing cattle of the world. At least that's what my teachers always told me. But maybe they just meant me...
Rajendra Sastri |
Ow--good luck with that. No worries; I just assumed that the PbP Game Day was eating your spare time.
Jace Devak |
Ouch! Never had stitches before but I have seen my fair share of other people getting them. Looks painful. Take care man.
Jace Devak |
Happy Holidays Everyone!

For those who might not have seen this elsewhere, about Loriana's player:
I am thestrongangel's (Nick Goodner's) brother. I am not sure if he knew anyone on here but I know he was very much into pathfinder as a community.
Nick has passed away. He became sick around the 27th of December. He had been fighting a virus which destroyed his immune system. He contracted the flu and was not able to recover. He passed on the evening of Jan 1st.

If you know anyone he might have known or have any questions please ask, I will do my best to reply - but I may not have access to this account for very long.
Jace Devak |
That is too bad. :(
Elena Lovain |
Oh, how awful. Makes you think how lucky we are to wake up every day.
Jim Seeker |
Hey sorry I was out of town for a bit. I had internet, but things went a bit sideways. Let me catch up real quick.

1 person marked this as a favorite. |
Not sure which would be worse, that or what my daughter's doing now. She's studying for her surgical tech certification, so probably less abstruse but much gorier.
Jim Seeker |
I checked out the loot sheet and claimed some stuff. Tomorrow I'll go back over it to claim more if nobody else takes it.
Since I didn't have edit privileges, I just left a comment to claim.
Jace Devak |
Looks good to me. I just claimed the Amulet of Natural Armor.
Rajendra Sastri |
I'm going to be at a (non-gaming) con this weekend, and since the hotel charges for internet access I won't be able to post much (if at all).
Elena Lovain |
Good luck to you! I was solidly drunk the two nights after my bar exam. I'd advise you to follow the same course.
Rajendra Sastri |
Yeah, good luck! No rush; we'll still be here.
Rajendra Sastri |
BTW, my daughter passed her certification. Here's hoping our good host does likewise. (And remember--for the next couple of days, nobody post in all caps.)
Jim Seeker |
WHY NOT?
