I was beginning to wonder if there'd been some lingering issue after the bar exam.

I'm going to be out at the Field Museum tomorrow, so will be only able to post infrequently (at best) or late tomorrow night.

Looking a little iffy for us, here. Anyone have any ideas?
Jim Seeker
I planned to die. Should've run away like I said I would.

I thought the stated map scale was correct, which would have given us a lot more time to take them in detail--didn't realize that they were all that close.
Elena Lovain
Just a note, DM, I've got a case of the worst stomach flu/food poisoning ever. It'll probably be a couple of days before I am back to normal posting.
Rajendra Sastri
True re the scale--320 feet per inch? Hard to do a tac map like that, as you say. I've also not played Rajendra as well as I should have--this is my first monk of any level, he's got a lot of different abilities, and I should have been burning ki on extra attacks and using perfect shot from the beginning of the fight.
Jim Seeker
Lots of people don't know how to play monks. Gestalt only compounds the issue. It's a lot to fit in your head.

Yep. OTOH, GM B's push for thematic coherence for spellcasters helps a lot with the sorcerer side--I don't have some huge number of unrelated spells to think about.
Jim Seeker
His push for hurting us has reduced me to a bottled cleric.

Say GM, I've had a bit of a stroke (of genius, that is). I'd like to use my invisibility SLA, which is a purely mental action. However, by RAW, I believe that provokes an AoO. That doesn't make a ton of sense to me, but I'll play it however you like. Whatever the case, I'd like to get that done as fast as possible, so it would be cool if I could sort of "come out of delay", as it were, before the ghouls get another chance to eat me.
Also, no hard feelings about the bottled cleric thing. More of a beef with Pathfinder than this game in particular.
Jim Seeker
So I don't generally like to metagame, but I was hoping to get some input on what the decent player thing to do would be in this situation. On the one hand, there's a pretty good chance that staying and fighting will result in a tpk. On the other, leaving two team members for dead seems pretty uncouth, and IC I can't imagine our reputation as "heroes" would handle that well. Not least because we'd have to gather the help of the militia in putting down this undead epidemic.
So... thoughts?
Rajendra Sastri
Honestly, I think we have them. Elena has some magical offense left, Raj has been steadily putting the hurt on them, and of the five left four are wounded--one pretty badly. If Elena can get a little bit of distance, she can start picking off the most beat-up with magic missile, acid arrow, and acid jet. OTOH, a few bad rolls and we're toast.
Jim Seeker
Don't forget, what kills one makes the other stronger. Also, a little bit of paralysis and we're all lunch.

I'm hoping my withdrawing this round lets me start opening up some ranged damage on them next round. Assuming everyone lives that long. And they don't chase me down and eat me.
Ziebodug Bandmocken
Not that I wouldn't have enjoyed being healed, good call on the channeling while paralyzed. I had this come up recently while GMing a scenario where the party had subdued an evil cleric who would have been able to kill them all if she could channel at will. We have to be careful when looking for power that we don't give the bad guys too much inadvertently! :)

Yes, Channeling can be a very powerful ability. Especially when it gets down extremely close to the wire.
Rajendra Sastri
In answer to your question in the IC thread, GM B, I think so. You warned us up front about the numbers, and I know I made at least three significant mistakes once we'd committed to the fight. (That's not counting the decision to attack in the first place--Zie wasn't going to be able to outrun them, so we had no good way to break off after things got rolling.)
Jim Seeker
I'm not sure how I feel about it. On the one hand, I don't necessarily like the idea of dying every 2-3 encounters. On the other hand, last time I died it was legitimately my own fault. Also, most of our difficulty seems to come from simply rolling poorly while you continue to roll well, and I'm not sure there's anything you can do to balance that kind of grossly improbable reality.
Elena Lovain
It cracks me up that literally this whole game our party has rolled awfully. Since the very first encounter at first level. It has to even out. It just has to. I've never seen prolonged crappy rolling for one game this way! We just have to live that long, lol.

It appears I don't have a way to save Jace, unfortunately.
No biggie Jim. Not every 'hero' can live long enough to become a god and save the world. :) Wouldn't be fun it there was no chance of death.

I just updated the loot sheet with prices for what I think is being sold. Based on that, we get 1407 gold, 8 silver each. Let me know if I messed up the assignments of what's kept and what's sold.
Jim Seeker
I'll buy:
Mwk Shortsword
Machete
Chakram x2
Mwk Backpack
Bedroll
Hot Weather Outfit
Canteen
Silk Rope
Sunrod x2
Potion of CLW
Potion of Protection from Evil
Masterwork Transformation for Sawtooth Sabre (since I doubt I could find a mwk sabre here)
Rajendra Sastri
I'm assuming there are no objections to the division of stuff, since Elena is good with it and Jim is already buying items based on it. Raj is going to buy two antiplague (100 gp), a masterwork backpack (50 gp), another twenty cold iron arrows (2 gp), and twenty blunt arrows (2 gp). That leaves him with 1253 gp, 8 sp left in his "get his bow enchanted" fund.
Elena Lovain
Elena will probably buy a couple alchemist's fires for swarms and holy water for undead. I'll tally up my purchases in the next day or two.
Elena Lovain
Elena bought 2 holy waters and 3 alchemist's fires for a total of 110 gold. Other than that, I'm ready once we get everyone tip top again.
Rajendra Sastri
Oh--two things I wasn't sure about in the loot list: the masterwork scale mail (which I didn't include in the distribution), and the +1 breastplate (which I did). Jim had claimed the latter but had also claimed the +1 chain shirt, and I saw on his profile that he was wearing the +1 chain shirt. Jim and anyone who knows about the scale mail, can you clarify that?
Jim Seeker
I believe the scale mail was for our old alchemist who is no longer with us. Good to be sold.
I should be wearing the breastplate. I probably just need to update my sheet. I forgot to "give back" the chain shirt once I got the upgrade.

In that case, everyone gets 10 gp more (total 1417 gp, 8 sp).

Thanks for crunching all the numbers :)
Rajendra Sastri
Self-interest, I assure you--Raj had less than 1 gp left after buying his starting equipment -_^.
Jim Seeker
Did you sell off the chain shirt? Or is someone else taking it?
-Posted with Wayfinder
Rajendra Sastri
Sold it off--Zie and Raj are monks, Elena's an arcanist, and Jace already has a +7 armor bonus. (Though I'm not sure why; he's listed as having masterwork chainmail. Jace, did you think you had the +1 breastplate?)
Jace Devak
|
Yea I took a +1 Breatplate Here I thought as Jim never answered.
Rajendra Sastri
Well, I don't think either of you can fit into the Small +1 breastplate, so assuming one of you takes the +1 chain shirt and the other one takes the +1 breastplate, that knocks the treasure shares down to 1292 gp, 8 sp.
Jim Seeker
Oh, maybe that's why I didn't update my sheet. Sorry Jace!

Not a big deal. If you want it you can have it. My AC is already a little higher and I can buy a set with my gold later if need be.
Rajendra Sastri
I have Rajendra leveled up. He took Improved Initiative for his L5 feat, and learned darkvision and monkey fish for his new spells.
Ziebodug Bandmocken
OK, Ziebodug is updated to level 5, and cleaned up. Turns out I had 2 versions, one online and one not, and they were not identical. For the most part they were, but I had a tentacle and kitsune style on one, but I removed those from the first draft and added snake style (which I also failed to ever use). I also had +4 initiative that I couldn't explain, so I changed it to +2. After the comment about using my bombs, I re-reviewed the character, and I really haven't been playing his strengths. (Flavor was right, just forgot many of the technical details). This includes a lot of focus on potions, of which he had none (so why have two alchemical allocation elixers on hand??) Also, the intention was for Zie to take and use other people's weapons from them and use them against them... but forgot this aspect too. And, of course, the bombs (took Point blank range for level 5). So hopefully, Zie should be more effective moving forward. Part of that includes making some purchases, and copying a few scrolls into the formulae book:
spent 1190
Purchases:
Wrist Sheath, spring-loaded 5gp x 2
Scroll, Bull's Strength 150gp + copy 40gp
Scroll, Restoration(lesser) 150gp + copy 40gp
Potion, Endure elements 50 gp
Potion, Remove Disease 750 gp
Level up to 5 was rather unexciting. Bomb damage went up to 3d6, added high jump, took point blank range, added Cat's grace to formulae book.
Please let me know if anything here is a concern.
Jim Seeker
One thing is a concern. You can just borrow my formula book for lesser restoration--no scroll required.
I was looking at your sheet last night and I was a bit confused myself. Glad you got all that sorted.
I should be good to go for melee. My disease resistance went up another 2 this level for +4 total. Yay. I also picked up lesser restoration and prepared a Deathwatch extract. Not a huge level for me either.
