Water Spout |
Unfortunately I went and read about Owlbear and now I can't sit this one out. Sucks even more I am fatigued but Water Spout would not stand for the poor treatment of Owlbear. For reference Owlbear is Mr. Pugg's pet as the DM said but he is also a simpleton that is constantly harassed by the other crew and has been tarred and feathered to look more like an owlbear. Even if only some of this is true in your game Water Spout is still going to step up.
As Mr. Pugg brings the man known as Owlbear out Water Spout is floored at the cruel treatment going on here. Lead by a collar and chain, the man is easily over 6 feet and well muscled but his face has the same look as wiped dog. He regards Mr. Pugg with fear and shies away from jeers of the other sailors. Forgetting his own tired state from a hard day of swabbing, Water Spout steps in front of Dinali, a look of grim determination on his face.
I will fight him.
Dinali, the bloody rose |
Laughing Dinali pushes Water spout aside. "Boy, I already said I will fight him. Now move!" Or would the crew prefer me.... or him. Stretching and using her body to best effect.
Diplomacy: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (12) + 7 = 19
"Raven" Wyvernhart |
"Flip a coin," Raevon suggests with a lazy shrug. "Let Lady Luck decide who's in the match, yeah? The so-called 'winner' of the toss gets to be punched in the face by that fellow," Raevon says blithely, tipping his head towards Owlbear.
EDIT: If you want to flip for it, both Dinali and Spout can post to call heads or tails, at which point I'll roll 1d2; 1=heads, 2=tails.
This is, of course, assuming that the two don't want to try to win over the crew to pick them, using diplomacy or crew grudges or whatnot.
GM Bloodred |
Dinali 1-5 Spout 6-10: 1d10 ⇒ 1
Also you each found some coin from below decks. Currently im offering 2:1 odds favoring Owl Bear.
Init Bear: 1d20 - 1 ⇒ (17) - 1 = 16
Free Action: Roar
Intimidate as a Standard Action 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (11) + 8 = 19
Dinali=Shaken for 2 Rounds (DC=10+HD+Wis mod=13)
Since it over extends by 5 it lasts for another round.
Setting up the Fight representation on d20 when i get onto a better ISC: basically your facing each other about 15 feet away and there are a bunch of pirates and friendlies surrounding you and cheering both sides.
A shaken character takes a –2 penalty on attack rolls, saving throws, skill checks, and ability checks. Shaken is a less severe state of fear than frightened or panicked.
Rachel Riptide |
Still here :)
Rachel will observe the fight, she expects foul play to enter the equation soon enough.
Water Spout |
Water Spout is obviously not happy about the decision but he goes to the edge of the crowd to watch anyway. Dinali had said she wouldn't harm him too bad, assuming he didn't defeat her first, but if things got out of hand he intended to step in if need be. Staying within 25 feet of the combatants at all times.
Rachel Riptide |
Rachel tries to get a grasp on Owlbears personality.
sensemotive: 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (17) + 10 = 27
Rachel will try to make another person friendly/helpful
diplo: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (20) + 7 = 27 Shivikah if he isn't friendly yet otherwise Maheem
Dinali, the bloody rose |
Moving in Dinali tries to attack owlbear
Jab: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (4) + 4 = 81d3 + 3 ⇒ (2) + 3 = 5
But the big one still buggers her.
parry: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (20) + 4 = 24
riposte: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (16) + 4 = 201d3 + 3 ⇒ (2) + 3 = 5
But as Owlbear tries to hit her, she turns with her whole body around the swing and guiding his fist past her. Using the momentum her wheelkick lands solidly on his chin.
Assuming owlbears attack roll is not 24 or higher and his ac is not higher than 20
"Raven" Wyvernhart |
"Gozreh drown me, he's big," Raevon laments from above the fight as Dinali steps towards Owlbear. The half-elf tugs anxiously at his scarf. "Should've taken the safe bet, maybe."
Raevon frowns to himself. "Doesn't sound like me at all. Must be more messed up than I thought. Dinali!" Raevon calls from above, "Take out his kneecaps; I've got gold riding!"
Raevon leans over towards Rachel, Warren, and Akadi. "She has this, yeah? Pretty sure halflings are s'posed to be lucky."
If possible, Raevon will use Freebooter's Bane, conferring a +1 to attack and damage rolls against Owlbear. If not applicable, or if this is the sort of thing that would count as interfering with the fight, then ignore it.
Welp, I was planning to aid another on a diplomacy roll, and I would feel lame doing something else just because I know that both Warren and Rachel have almost certainly succeeded on their rolls. So, in an act of complete unnecessarity (this is not a word), Raevon will go with Warren. Raevon will take the chance to get to know both Warren and Badger better.
"What'd the two of you do before you left the world behind? School teacher or priest of Iomedae'd be my guess," Raevon states, grinning wolfishly.
Diplomacy: Aid Another: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (14) + 6 = 20
GM Bloodred |
@Dinali: Roll Perception for OwlBear. I also believe that you missed an attack of opportunity.
Ill allow freebooters bane to take a(e)ffect in Round 3.
Attack: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (11) + 5 = 16 Miss
Draws an attack of opportunity
@Rachel Shivikah is friendly now
@Warren Badger Is now friendly
look folks i hate to do this but im feeling less and less satisfied playing PBP, unfortunately im probably going to stop in maybe 2 or 3 weeks from now. I will post in recruitment looking for a GM to take over and ill also ask my friends if they would like to. (my friends probably dont)
GM Bloodred |
For as many panache points that you have you get two attacks at him every time he swings at you. Because he swings and procs an AoO and then your parry and riposte comes into effect.
Currently i have you having missed 1 AoO.
3rd Round- Total Damage sustained- 10 You actually hit on the AoO you did roll
From the side you notice a large wooden club gets slid to the ground at Owl Bears feet. He stoops to retrieve it. AoO
Attack Club: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (7) + 5 = 12 Swing and a Miss. No drawn AoO.
So Currently you have 2 AoOs to Account for.
Perception fails. Attack hits.
Going into the 4th Round- Damage Sustained to Owl Bear Currently 16 with 2 AoOs that need to be calculated.
Water Spout |
Water Spout watches the fight intently. At first he too is intimidated by the brute. But as the fight progresses he realizes that the man called owlbear, while obviously strong, is also clumsy and simple. His punches are slow and obvious, he moves rather sluggishly to defend himself, and he appears to be blind in one eye. Any decent fighter could handle him easily. And the look on Plugg's face says he wasn't expecting this turn of events. He obviously miss judged Dinali. Water Spout had done the same apparently. But when the club rolls onto the field, he knows there is foul play. He was really going to enjoy this.
Perception: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (15) + 8 = 23
Initiative: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (11) + 6 = 17
Hydraulic Push CMB=Caster level + Wis: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (15) + 5 = 20
A torrent of water slithers its way up the boat, flows around Water Spout and then jets off to blast Mr. Plugg in the face. The water-bending Undine then steps onto the field of battle starring squarely at Mr. Plugg. "I believe you said this fight was bare-knuckle or wrestling. If clubs are allowed then I guess anything goes Mr. Plugg."
Pretty sure I slip in before Owlbear too.
Dinali, the bloody rose |
AoO: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (5) + 5 = 101d3 + 3 ⇒ (2) + 3 = 5
Moving in to intercept the cudgle Dinali still missed, totally suprised about the sudden apearance of the weapon.
Attack round 4:
Enraged about the cheating Dinali jumps up and delivers a Heori Chagi.
Connecting firmly with Owlbears chin Dinali delivers a perfect hit.
attack: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (20) + 5 = 251d3 + 3 ⇒ (2) + 3 = 5
confirm: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (17) + 5 = 221d3 + 3 ⇒ (3) + 3 = 6
11 damage nonlethal, 1 panache back
parry: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (11) + 5 = 16
riposte: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (10) + 5 = 151d3 + 3 ⇒ (3) + 3 = 6
Rachel Riptide |
"Enough! Owlbear clearly lost the will to fight. Anything from now on be boring as his heart isn't into it." Rachel proclaims.
diplo: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (17) + 7 = 24

Water Spout |
I guess that happened before I used the Hydraulic Push so I get to keep it for the day.
Water Spout doesn't flinch when the bullet cracks the planks inches from his feet. He maintain's his stance and stares at Mr. Pugg a moment longer, making him aware of the fact that the only reason Spout stopped was because of the captain. He then turns to address the captain. "My apologies captain, for my ignorance." He pauses letting everyone think he was done then continues. "I assumed even pirates had some honor. What was I thinking?"
GM Bloodred |
The fight is pretty much over after being thrown back into the ring, Owl Bear tries his best to stay away from Plugg and his friends. By now even the most stubborn of pirates can see that Owl Bear doesnt want to fight and the Captain calls a halt.
As Owl Bear is re-Shackled you can see that Plugg is overly Livid, As Owl Bear walks by he just nods to dinali and gives a quick smile.
Owl bear is now Helpful, but really only to Dinali. (the only difference between Party friends and Owl Bear is that he will listen to Dianli more then anyone else and will do whatever he can to protect her.
