August Autumnwind |
Argust will follow the tengu and step into a flanking position, hoping to end the battle now. He will also use his last 3 defense points on the attack.
Flail: 1d20 + 6 + 1 + 2 + 3 ⇒ (4) + 6 + 1 + 2 + 3 = 16
Damage: 1d10 + 6 + 1 ⇒ (8) + 6 + 1 = 15
August Autumnwind |
Gah, forgot about that. OK, so I have 4 left and that is 14 to hit.
Elindriel Firesong |
Elindriel reels in pain from her wound, but continues to fight. She shifts her grip to bring her buckler into play again, then imbues her blade and swings once more, hoping that it will dig into the tengu as well as it did his mount.
Swift action: Imbue katana
Standard action: Attack the tengu captain

Hawk Lifebinder |
Another burst of healing comes from Hawk, he doesn't want a lucky strike to kill off one of his companions.
Channel Energy (Selective Channel Feat): 1d6 ⇒ 4
Hawk shifts his position to remain near the enemy.
Free Action: 5' Step
GM Aarvid |
Alan steps up to the tengu cavalier and delivers a solid punch to his neck, causing him to reel.
Elindriel and August move into position as well, but the aim of their swings is thrown off by the birdman's movement.
====Round 18 ====
15-Nguyen An (prone)
12+Hawk
12-Captain
10-Alan
6-Elindriel
5+August
Nguyen An recovers from his wounds and stands up, looking around to survey the battlefield. He picks up his weapon in the process.
Hawk, seeing his friend rise, and the wound to Elindriel, calls forth another burst of divine healing.
The captain, spins to confront the person that had managed to land the only blow so far.
"Ah, so you are ready for some pain then? Then have some!"
katana: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (10) + 7 = 17 for dmg: 1d8 + 4 ⇒ (3) + 4 = 7
bite: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (8) + 2 = 10 for dmg: 1d3 + 1 ⇒ (1) + 1 = 2
But his bluster is worse than his bite, and neither his blade nor beak manage to connect with the nimble monk.
August Autumnwind |
August again attempts to strike down the foe that continues to threaten his friends but his heightened rage has him swinging wildly out of control.
Power Attack, use defense point (3 left): 1d20 + 6 + 2 + 1 - 1 ⇒ (1) + 6 + 2 + 1 - 1 = 9
Damage: 1d10 + 9 ⇒ (8) + 9 = 17
Wow, this has been a horrible fight for August.
Hawk Lifebinder |
You noticed that too huh? Anyone have any nets/tanglefoot bags or other items that might make him easier to hit? Does Alan have stunning fists left? Of course there is also Aid Another.
GM Aarvid |
Alan continues to press the attack with his fist of fury, but his fist slams into the birdman's heavy shield.
August swings his weapon in a broad arc, but likewise the elusive birdman avoids the blow.
Elindriel still has an attack...before the top of the next round.

Nguyen An |
Shaking off the the lingering effects of the deadly attack, An moves forward and strikes at the birdman leader.
"You thought I was down, but I have risen to defeat you and end your reign of terror over these poor people."
Attempt to intimidate the leader
Intimidate: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (1) + 4 = 5

GM Aarvid |
Nguyen An rises and moves up to the tengu captain, and while his attempt to verbally threaten the birdman fails, he is able to convince the tengu by sticking his blade clean through the chest and out the other side. The tengu falls in a clump on the bloodied field outside the village.
* End Combat *
GM Aarvid |
The battle has ended once Kwankhonu is dead and his remaining minions are deceased or seen fleeing into the woods.
Cries go out from the entire village.
"Hurray, our heroes have defeated the bandits. We are saved. Well most of us at least."
Victory does not come free, of course; the villager casualties as follows: of the 50 men and women that aided in the fight, 17 perished.
At the end of surveying the damage, Je Tsun steps forward and bows.
"Well done. I will honor my bargain with you and reactivate the sacred braid"
Isolating herself in her home with the Braid of a Hundred Masters for a day and a night. When she emerges with a smile,
"The braid is restored to its ancient potency."
Upon your return with the braid, even as activated, the use of the relic is difficult to discern, but Pathfinders in the Lantern Lodge in Goka are undoubtedly eager to begin their work examining the powerful item.
The elders of the village step forward to give thanks.
"These honored fallen are buried in the hills overlooking the home they gave their lives for; in spite of this,
Nesting Swallow celebrates its victory.
For thanks to you, this is the first time in years, we look forward to living free of banditry. Thank you."
Hawk Lifebinder |
I suspect a beefed up owlbear (or adding a second one or something) would have been trouble as well
The days have taken it's toll, fixing up the village and the drawn out combat have drained nearly all of Hawk's energy, magical and otherwise. Surveying the damage done to the village, it's a mess and the dead weigh on his mind but Hawk did the best that he could, it will have to be enough.
Good job Pathfinders Hawk says to his comrads.
Elindriel Firesong |
Yeah, that was a tough fight...and loooooong. I don't think Elindriel has ever run out of bard song rounds before. Anyway, thanks once more, GM Aarvid - if/when you want to get back into GMing, feel free to PM me, I'll be more than willing to play under you again.
August Autumnwind |
August is quite happy to see than his friend An not only survived the fight but dealt the killing blow that ensured victory for the village. I do hope our time together has not ended. I will prefer to continue on with you in further adventure.
GM Aarvid |
I hope you liked this series. I enjoyed it. This last battle is based on movie 7 samurai or something. I just think of The Bugs Life movie.
Anyway, sorry for the rushed ending. Check that your session is recorded correctly and let me know of any issues with chronicles...should arrive sometime tonight.
Hawk Lifebinder |
I don't know if it matters or if there is any real lore to be gained but-
K. History: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (14) + 5 = 19 Information about the history of the braid
diplomacy: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (20) + 8 = 28 Gather information about the history of the braid.
This was the faction quest, but if there is some cool story to be gained it would still be interesting
GM Aarvid |
Speaking with Je tsun for a day, Hawk learns the following.
Normally one of her age would not be a council member, but some personal misfortunes, including an illness that swept through the village last spring and claimed both her parents, have left her both the effective matriarch of her family and the sole living descendant of Master Li Yao. Since his lineage is held in high regard for both his family’s
history in the village and their reputation for wisdom, Je Tsun was accorded a place of honor.
She explains...
"Among the founding families of the village is a bloodline that begins far from Shokuro, originating in the mountains known as the Wall of Heaven. A secluded monastery dedicated to Irori once stood within the mountains, before events brought it down and scattered its disciples far and wide. The last master of the place, Li Yao, travelled to the farmlands of Shokuro, and was one of the early inhabitants of the land where Nesting Swallow eventually took form. Content with this newfound life, he considered his role in history all but finished, except for what he had left behind. Back in the ruins of the monastery was an Iroran relic, the Braid of a Hundred Masters. Li Yao had left it with Jiang Dan, a skilled but arrogant student who had challenged his master’s right to possess the braid. The master knew the braid would not activate for his disciple, and left it with his defeated student to ponder upon, never to see the relic again. . "
