Harvey Dagger |

I vote Aye Aye sir. fresh blood from the ship that we took over might be good for our crew

![]() |

Thread is up here. Take a look, let me know what you guys think. Meant to put this here yesterday.

![]() |

I wish you would stay Laurastine, buts it's your decision. Delben, Harvey, Nalgi, PM me the characters you like best in the recruitment thread. I'll get a summarized list up later today. I really you guys involved in the selection since you'll be playing alongside them.

Nalgi Wavecrester |

Tomorrow is the end of Spring break so I'll probably be really busy with the surge of work from school starting again. Don't be surprised if my posting is a little more erratic.

![]() |

There are a couple of issues that have come up in the recruitment. Please go check it out and weigh in. Someone wants to use ACG swashbuckler, and someone else wants to use a non core race. As you guys weren't given that option, I told hem they would have to run it by you first.

'Sunny' |

*Bounces into frame*
Hey-YA there! (^_^)

Alistar Sinclair |

So how should we come in. Are you guys going to address us and ask who can crew a ship? Should this be a retcon that happened before coming upon the fortress? Just eager to post and get my pirate on.
@Nalgi, Alistar would be all on board for helping to free your people when the time comes.
Alistar is not as pale and his eyes are deep blue like the depths of the ocean but the rest is the same. I love this armor

'Sunny' |

*Bounces up and down excitedly*
(^_^)
Oh! Aye! Where's tha' Rum?
*Waves*

![]() |

Sorry, but this is a sober ship. No alcohol, drugs, bimbos, etc.
well good thing I brought my own, holding a bottle of wine in one hand, barbarian chew (which is a drug) in the other and motioning toward Sunny for the third item.

'Sunny' |

*Looks around*
Where's tha' who nekkid? (>_>)
*Scampers over to Noro.*
Where be tha' Rum? (^_^)

'Sunny' |

(^_^)
Agin', thank'e muchly fer havin' m'self join yer bunch. :)
Much cheers to all.

Hey-YA there Master Petch! (^_^)

Ok. This is what I've got. Feel free to add suggestions and ideas. We'll invent the language "Underwater Sign Language". Using hand signals and body movements, characters proficient in this language will be able to communicate as well as if they were speaking to one another, though it is utterly dependent on sight instead of listening. Each character who is non proficient who tries to use basic hand motions and signals can try to communicate with another, but will have a 25% chance of the message being misunderstood. For instance, two characters who are non proficient will have a combined total of 50%, rolled at the end of the message. If two characters are using it and only one is proficient, then the misunderstand chance is 25%, rolled at the end of the message. To become proficient, a skill point must be put into linguistics and the language chosen.
I think this could make for interesting role play as your characters create the language themselves by trial and error. What do you guys think?
Now...my one thought is...
That ocean/Aquatic creatures/races would already seem to be able to communicate in their native environment. To the point that there is also an 'Elemental' language of 'Aquan'. As for the mechanics of "How?", hey it's magic. :P
If the DM feels that there should be a sign language, that's okay by me. My Sunny character is kind of built around not speaking well to begin with. So another language for er to mangle is quite all right. ;)
Happy and glad to read other people's thoughts/ideas.
Wishing every one all the very best. (^_^)

at this point for Noro,
doubt she would take the time to learn. she still is (at least inher mind) a recently resued slave that isn't fully trusted yet.
she is not an officer nor a regular crew (yet) besides all of that...
She does not breathe underwater, nor have a swim speed. she can swim and remain under water for a decent amount of time, but she still is no match for the aquatic races.
her underwater time will most likely be traversing from point A to Point B, not really any prolonged underwater adventureing.
unless she is ordered by the captain to learn said language, but that will simply mean use of skill points. which I don't particularily like having a fellow party member telling me how to spend my skill points unless I can recprocate, which could be interesting...
my 2-copper piece

![]() |

Like I said, interesting roleplaying. :)
Of course, it makes for a little more realism if only the ones who swim on the regular have the special language, as they would really be the only ones using it frequently. And you'd still have to spend a skill point for aquan. Tee hee

*Nods* I understand you're point of view, master Dm Sir.
But....unfortunately, in a PbP some things don't come across very well.
How would you see people making a post using your idea/system?
As a side note...Should I have Sunny not speak while immersed? Though, given hers and Nalgi's nature...? *Shrug*
Looking forwards to feedback/thoughts/ideas.
Wishing every one all the very best. (^_^)

actually spending the skill point would not be a problem..
however being ordered to by a another PC (as the ship's captain) is another thing.

'Sunny' |

Or...ye could be cajoled in't doin' it? (^_~)

![]() |

I may be sounding harsh, please don't take it that way,
persuaded, maybe. just don't come out and say I order you to learn xxx language.
now if this whole fortress thing is an undereater adventure, I think Noro will be stuck topside for a bit so you aquatic types can clear a path for us non-aquatic types.

'Sunny' |

Heh,
Sunny would be more along the line of,
"Bet a shine-bit ye can't remember tha' word *Insert foreign language here*..." Then ask a question about it the next day and the next until it sticks. Follow that up with more words etc, rinse repeat.
And just slowly work you into getting the hang of the basics over time that way. (^_~)
As for the place? Maybe there's a way to shut the doors and clear the waters out? Jus' thinkin'.

Nalgi Wavecrester |

I like the aquatic sign language idea better. And apparently I can speak Aboleth and forgot to add an additional language from my int bonus. I imagine Aquan as a series of clicks and shrieks that is very limited. Like there are words for fish, reefs, boats, birds, attack, etc but not masts, towns, surface proper nouns, etc.

![]() |

ok, here would be an example. Let's assume Nalgi and Noro are exploring a room that is underwater, and Nalgi tries to communicate with Noro.
"Hey, there is a lever over there, I bet it lifts that grate on the other side of the room. See if we can pull it together."
He then rolls a misunderstand chance.
Misunderstand Chance: 1d100 ⇒ 36
And must get a 26 or above because while he is proficient, Noro is not, and she may not understand him.
When she signs back, after he message she would roll a misunderstand chance, and need a 26 or above, because while Nalgi is proficient, she is not, and she may not convey the signs properly.
When both characters involved are proficient, there would be no misunderstand chance at all.
This could also be useful for communicating on land, when you want to speak to each other and not risk someone near you understanding what you are saying.
Thought? Ideas?

![]() |

there is one flaw..
in that scenario.
Lever = pull it, don't need to signal that.
Chaos reigns!
unless he wants to stop her then there will be other rolls for that.
☺

Alistar Sinclair |

Sign language would be better I can't see being able to speak even with Aquan while holding my breath now for the aquatic type sure the breath fine. I already can't talk or understand any of you once combabt starts unless you speek aquan.

'Sunny' |

No need ta' worry. M'self an' Nalgi be lookin' after ye folks right fine! (^_^)
So...Sunny will be waving a lot at Nalgi and such, then? (^_~)

'Sunny' |

Pshaw! I in't worried. I can be swimmin' away from any trouble. (^_^)
Lest, o'course, tha' trouble be able ta' come swimmin' after m'self. Then things in't goin' ta' go so swimmin'-ly.
Um....I dun't think that come out tha' way it should'a... (>_>)
Very much cheers to all!

'Sunny' |

At work
Sorry I posted when I did. Was the only free time I had. Much cheers to all. (^_^)
