Merry Christmas all. Hope you and yours have had a good one. :)

And a belated festive greetings to all of you... family, some lovely food and a beer with the last of Capaldi's Doctor Who's - a great day and then today was out with the kids on various scooters, heelys and suchlike...

I'm probably being overly liberal with the cut-off point here, but since the holiday is largely about generosity... Marcus, Kaede, Tera, Zache (who probably started his post during Christmas in my time zone), and Salomae (who I'm sure was still awake from Christmas when she posted) all receive:
The Blessing of Lorris
Once during the campaign you can give someone else the gift of success. This allows you to declare any one d20 roll that an ally other than you makes to be a natural 20. Using this ability is a free action that can be used when it is not your turn.
Tera Flinders |
As Sal says, thanks!
Zache Kovachi |
Ooh, that's a nice one! (And timezones are screwy for me, so I didn't know when "christmas" ended in your timezone >.>)
DM Nate |
@Zache- I generally try to go by the poster’s time zone not mine own... depending on where I’m Australia you are, and what time of year it is, you’re 12-16 hours ahead of me... so I usually count your day from 16 hours before mine starts until 12 hours before it ends (so you actually get a 28 hour day to post during).

lol- we have a 9 year old and a 7 year old, so my wife and I celebrate New Years by having some appetizers and sparkling grape juice (which is like bubbly non-fermented grape juice, for those of you who have never heard of such a thing) with them at like 9pm. They were in bed by 10 and then we watched netflix for a while.
also: I want to thank Marcus for his patience. When I first had Tsuto mention 'an experiment' as "he" I had already talked to him about being the one getting experimented on and joining the game when you got to that point, and that was a fairly long gap to wait.
DM Nate |
On a more official note... I'm going to hand out a blessing for the new year... Technically (in the US, at least) today is the holiday but really everyone celebrated last night... so, I'm going to start the posting window to get the blessing around midday yesterday and go until around midday today... So, from Kaelaah's post yesterday until, let's say, 3-4 hours from now (which would be the end of midday in the US).

Alright- Kaelaah, Tera, Zache, Sal, and Marcus all gain:
The Blessing of Chadali
Once during the campaign fate intervenes to grant you a new beginning. Using this ability allows you to retake your most recent turn. Any damage you healed or inflicted, and any effects you activated during your original turn, are undone (including regaining the use of any abilities you had activated) and you return to where your previous turn began able to act as if it were your regular turn. Activating this ability is a free action that can be taken even when it's not your turn, but doing so changes your initiative.
So, just to clarify... when you use this ability you get to take your turn over and: anything that happened to you as a result of your previous turn is undone; nothing that happened to others since your turn changes; but everything you did in your first turn is undone (potentially affecting others moving forward). I don't know if that helps? If you cast a buff and move to flank on your turn and someone else hits because of those bonuses, that won't turn into a miss when you take a new turn (because it doesn't change what already happened to others). If someone was at 5hp and you healed them for 7hp and then they took 6 more damage, they would fall unconscious (at -1hp) when you used this ability but nothing that they did before you used this ability would be undone. But it does change things for you... so, if you moved and got yourself caught in a trap when you start your turn over you wouldn't have taken the trap damage (but it would be re-armed); or, if you move and attack a dangerous enemy and then it hits you for a ton of damage, if you retake your turn you lose the attack you had previously made but you also lose the damage you took from the enemy's attack. Remember though- you have to be alive/conscious to use this, and its not an immediate action, so if you get damaged below 0hp you won't be able to activate it. If you have questions feel free to ask!
edit: As with all the other blessings, I've added this to the "Campaign Info" tab but please add it to your character sheet as well.
DM Nate |
We got a new puppy today... it’s pretty cute but it’s thrown my schedule way off- be back to posting tomorrow
Zache Kovachi |
I can't speak for anyone else, but I'll forgive you if you show us pictures of the pup!
DM Nate |
hmm... I'd have to figure out where online I could post said pictures so that I could link them here... I'm not on any picture sharing sites like instagram or imgur or anything... I have some school work to do but I'll see if I can find something later...
Tera Flinders |
Just wanted to let you know that yes, puppy pics will help, not that it'll keep me from forgiving you for real life stuff interfering here.
Also, thought I'd mention that mister burly threatens a crit. Tera may be in a lot of trouble here.
DM Nate |
I did catch that, thank you- I think I probably ninja'd your post with my edit.
Tera Flinders |
Yup, that's what happened.
Also, very happy Tera's still on her feet. She's pretty squishy and being at -6 HP would have not been fun.
DM Nate |
Yeah- it’s always nice when you don’t lose someone on the very first attack, lol. Although, remember- you have hero points you can use in case of those emergencies...
nate lange RPG Superstar 2012 Top 32 |
so, if you're on facebook, i believe this link right here should take you to a post with a couple pictures of the puppy... if you're not I have no idea if it'll work at all?
also, I don't accept friend requests from people I don't recognize, so if you send me one make sure to PM me (here or there) and let me know who you are.
Salomae Amsel |
Sorry for the extended silence guys, work was awful yesterday and I've been struggling to shake some sort of a cold/chest congestion since Christmas so I've been asleep most of last night and most of today. I'll catch up and post soon!
(And I'm so much more of a cat person than a dog person but that puppy is adorable.)
Tera Flinders |
I'm a cat person so long as the cat knows not to go running across my back with claws out.
AdamWarnock |
I've got the itch to run something, and run something I shall!
Can you solve the mystery behind the murders in Black Barrow before it's too late?
I've not settled on a deadline for applications yet. I have enjoyed playing with all of you and and I hope that you guys are interested. The plan is to keep it short, so the time investment shouldn't be that much in PBP terms.
Also, to those of you who are in multiple games with me, I apologize for the number of times you're about to see this.
nate lange RPG Superstar 2012 Top 32 |
Sorry for the slow-down... I'm in a 5 week intensive grad school course on top of my regular work/family/school commitments right now so things have been hectic (especially since I got added to the course late so I only have 4 weeks for all 5 weeks worth of work).
I promise I'll have a post up tomorrow.
Tera Flinders |
No worries. Just make sure you pass!

DM Nate |
So, I don't want to tell anyone their business... but if you're down to just a few arrows it might be worth grabbing some or all of the quiver on the bugbear?
Tera Flinders |
Dur...
Yeah, that was dumb of me. How many arrows did he have? 20?
DM Nate |
well... technically, 23. 4 of those were the magic arrows though, so 19 normal arrows left.
Tera Flinders |
Well, considering the only elf we know about is Shalelu, it's not likely that Tera's gonna have cause for using those magic arrows. :P
Kaede Mayumi |
This is a note for all the games I'm currently in:
I will be on a cruise from Feb. 4th until Feb 9th. I will not have any real internet access during this time, including my phone, and as such will be unable to post for the duration of my trip.
Zache Kovachi |
Sorry for my silence. Been bummed as heck, had to deal with a lot of stupid people on the internet and had to take a step back, had a minor medical scare (thought my appendix was going to burst [it didn't]), and now a trauma with a close acquaintance.
I'm trying to be around. On a lighter note, I got back into Skyrim (which might not be helping, TBH), and I've lost 8kg in a month due to a diet, so... kinda yay?
nate lange RPG Superstar 2012 Top 32 |
My wife and I lost a baby at 4 months (years ago), it’s hard. I don’t know if you’re the praying type but, like Joe and Adam, I’m praying for her, and you.
Edit: on a lighter note- Skyrim is such a good game. Obviously I’d love for everyone to be enjoying this game enough to really want to get a post up before indulging in other geekery, but I also kind of totally understand getting caught up in Skyrim and running out of time for other stuff
DM Nate |
I see.
So, grease is kind of a corner case... technically it isn't really an AoE spell: it effects an object, or a 10' square surface (but not directly anything else in that square). The way invisibility is worded I could see it being ruled either way. I will consistently rule that you can use grease while invisible without ending invisibility. That's a double edged sword because I'll continue letting NPCs doing it too, but for future reference you guys can use that as well.

I can't remember if we ever established any sort of SOP for dungeon-crawling and the like but if we didn't, it might be a good idea to come up with one to help make sections like the current one progress little more quickly. Nothing super detailed, but maybe a basic marching order for single-file paths and one for going two-by-two, a procedure for dealing with locked/trapped doors and containers, etc.
DM Nate |
That would be super helpful! I was just thinking about what to post in response to Tera's last post (really, the last round of posts but her's is the one that pushes things along the most), but I'm not sure how big of a gap you're leaving between her and the rest of you, or who's next after her... or whether she's just listening or actually trying to open the door... if we could have an established marching order (or one for 5' halls and a pattern for rooms and wider halls), and a standard if->then for opening doors that really would make my job easier.
