Tera Flinders |

One slightly damaged wizardy type here.

Zache Kovachi |

Still here, and hoping to not nearly-die again for some time.

Kaede Mayumi |

I'm all ready to get moving again. this past week has been slow for all of my games.

Roakkad Shrikkir-tsha |

I regret to say that I will decline to resume playing. I actually made this decision over a week ago, wondering if/when the game would resume. I've enjoyed all the characters, and the hard work of the GM building a very original version of Runelords. But life is changing for me, and I don't have the time I had 6 months ago. It seems unfair to continue now, when I know I will likely be unable to keep up.
I need to cut back.
And so I'll tuck Roakkad neatly back on the bookshelf, to wait patiently for the time when he's ready--when the world needs him again.
Thank you all so much.
"Wind guide you."

Tera Flinders |

Sorry to see Roakkad go too. Good luck and hope you have fun wherever you hang your gaming hat.

Zache Kovachi |

Sorry to see you go, Roakkad! Will you hang around in the discussion thread, or at least pop in from time to time? Maybe you could MST3K our wacky misadventures? :P
More seriously, I hope these changes in your life are for the better.

Tera Flinders |

MST3K our wacky misadventures? :P
I second this motion!
Seriously, good luck and may your life be filled with many blessings.

Tera Flinders |

Well of course! The discussion thread is like the game's Rifftrax. :D

sorry its taking so long on the post. the thing you were about to discover is... unpleasant. I've been trying to figure out how to write a good returning post about it and been falling short; instead I'm going to send you around the grease (the long way) and save that discovery until we're back into things a bit. Typing is slow when it's one handed on a phone (and drugged), and my family is home but I will get it up in the next few hours.

Tera Flinders |

I feel your pain about the phone. I really don't like touch keyboards. Still, I hope the recovery is going well.

DM Nate |

I hope nobody minds but I'm going to switch us to block initiative... It will basically work just like how we've been doing things except that when its your block's turn you each act in the order you post in. Previously I've been having you post in blocks but then in my summary posts I'd organize the actions by actual initiative (which sometimes required modifications to certain actions). This way whatever is written before your post is the way things are when you post. I think that simplifies things a bit. I was using this in another game that didn't survive my long convalescence and it was working really well.
If anyone has questions/comments/concerns please share them.
Also, @Sal & Kael- no worries, I figured that was probably the case.

So, it sounds like the confusion over the penalty on ranged attacks was really my fault for not being more clear about positioning and what not: I'll try to be clearer/more specific about that in the future. I did also double check the rules and to clarify them for anyone who's interested- if you make a ranged attack against someone engaged in melee combat you take a -4 penalty to hit (which precise shot overcomes); if there's a wall, large object, or creature (friend or foe) in between you and the target of your ranged attack then the target will have cover or partial cover gaining +2 or +4 to its AC (which improved precise shot overcomes). These are separate effects which unfortunately will often both apply during the heat of battle.
If anyone has an questions about this (or anything else) please feel free to ask.

Tera Flinders |

None here. Sorry getting confused in the first place. :)

DM Nate |

It's been a while so I wanted remind everyone of a few points about the previous fight:
- in the beginning the goblins were fighting as one group against you.
- Tera charmed the goblin with the greatsword and then started telling it its companions were working against it (if it understood common)
- the greatsword goblin started yelling at the other goblins
- the chanting goblin cast cause fear on the greatsword goblin causing it to run off
- a round or two later, when the other goblins were down the chanter ran off through the room on the other side of the grease
- apparently a couple round after that the two surviving goblins ran into each other and started fighting over here.

Tera Flinders |

I was thinking the same thing. :)
Though this little monster didn't get a chance to do monkey impressions.

Tera Flinders |

Ronnie's posted in the Shattered Star game and the RotRL game I run in the past 36 hours. Not sure why she's been silent here.

Salomae Amsel |
Though this hopefully won't be related to Zache but the mention did remind me of something - given the unique nature of each of the PCs I'm guessing that we won't be replacing Roakkad, correct? Not that I'm particularly worried from a party balance standpoint or anything; mainly just curious.

Zache Kovachi |

I'm here. Between a very bitey puppy, a birthday, and a power outage, I've had my hands full.

Tera Flinders |

Yay for new puppy and B-Day.
Not so yay for the bitey thing.
Boo for the power outage.
Glad you're still with us. This game wouldn't be the same without Zache to fluster Tera. :D

nate lange RPG Superstar 2012 Top 32 |

Yay for Zache.
Just so we're all on the same page... This main hallway, if we start at the back door, runs about 30 feet, then turns left and runs about 60 feet, the turns left again and runs about 15 feet. There's the double door with the grease spell in the 30' section (on the left side), the door to the showroom is right in the first corner (on the right), the doors to the workers' quarters and the meeting room are both in the 60' section (on the right), and in the 15' section there is one partly opened set of double doors to the left, and one set of double doors to the right. If I understand the last couple posts correctly, you're currently headed back to the first set of double doors where the grease is/was?

Kaede Mayumi |

that's the plan, yes.

Kaelaah |

The fault is mine with regards to Kaelaah's posting rate... trying to juggle a few too many games as GM and the other game I am playing in is moving at a slower pace (so I kinda defaulted to prioritising posting in my GM games)... I'll get myself back up to a daily posting habit with Kaelaah.

Zache Kovachi |

I don't think there's a problem with the posting rate. I think it's all on me. My emotional state has been a bit wonky, and all my games have suffered as a result.

Tera Flinders |

Sal just said something that got me thinking. Tera could pull off the Arcane Trickster PrC, her dex is reasonably high and it'd certainly be interesting to see Tera develop that route, but I think that may wind up derailing some GM plans, if I'm guessing right that Nate has special plans for those of us blessed with the mark.

nate lange RPG Superstar 2012 Top 32 |

None of my plans involve specific builds for any of you. My liberal stance on using your domain SLAs to qualify for prestige classes made me think at least one or two of you might head that way (especially for mystic theurge with only 1 cleric level), but it's not required. I will say though, an arcane trickster of Abadar might take some explaining!

Tera Flinders |

I'm sure I could come up with something. As far as I know, there's nothing in Abadar's tenets that forbids tricking your enemies with illusions and taking advantage of catching them by surprise.
Though now that I think of it, one of the requirements is a non-lawful alignment, isn't it.
I still like the idea of Tera becoming the party's scout, so maybe take a dip into Ranger?

nate lange RPG Superstar 2012 Top 32 |

Wizards never need to dip (unless to get into a PrC)... Want to scout? Learn invisibility. I say that partly joking, but honestly giving up caster levels is so costly that it's worth thinking about other ways to expand your skills. Taking the additional traits feat at 3rd would let you make stealth and perception class skills, and you could take skill focus later if you want; really though, you can do so much of it with magic- vanish, invisibility, silence for stealth, and clairvoyance and arcane eye for surveillance.
I mean, build how you want, but give your options some thought- especially since In-Character you're already studying arcane and divine magic... Actually... If you did want to dip, inquisitor might make more sense since that's what Brother Faustwick is...

Tera Flinders |

Hmm, maybe I'll have to see.
Edit: And here is where my inexperience playing casters shows. That is a good point. I should probably look int taking vanish as well.
