Background:
Kaede was born to a family of pearl divers in the Sakakabe Province in Minkai. her birth was without complications, and having another daughter to join in the harvest was a joyous occasion, until the midwife noticed the birthmark shaped like a songbird, just below the newborn's right elbow. The mark of Shelyn caused a minor commotion among her family, and it was decided that they should visit the closest temple to the Lady of Chrysanthemums, and ask what this auspice meant. When the family finally was able to make the journey some time later, the temple immediately wished to foster the child as a ward of the temple. Keade grew up at the temple in Sakakabe as a happy little girl. She was dancing almost as soon as she could walk, and was singing as soon as she understood what language meant. Eventually, She came in contact with the training yard, and became amazed at the skill of the clergy and wanted to try to learn 'that dance'. After a year of pleading, one of the priests carved a half-sized practice glaive for her, and began to teach her glaive katas. She took to them like a natural, and by the time she was 14, she was placed in charge of training yard, a job that she took very seriously. She spent more time studying and learning new katas that by the time that Shelyn blessed Kaede with her presence, she was more a defender of artists then an artist herself. In the winter of her 17th year, Kaede, finally a full-fledged priestess at the temple asked for guidance. Normally, the auguries that came from the temple oracles were vague and required some soul searching to interpret. Kaede's augury was far more direct. In a tone that brooked no disobedience, the oracle intoned, "Your destiny lies with the setting sun. Follow the midnight path, and find a shrine to six lights under an ancient tower. The start of your journey lies there." And so, after a conference with the senior priests at the temple, Kaede was tasked to immediately follow the augury: travel the Path of Aganhei and offer her services to her Lady's followers in Varisia. The trip over the Crown of the World was harrowing, but blessfully without incident(Several of the guides pinned that good luck on Kaede, who wasn't going to argue.) As so, as the summer began, Kaede arrived in Sandpoint, eager to further her calling. Since arriving fifteen months ago, she has done her best to integrate herself into the Sandpoint clergy and community, learning the differences bewteen Inner Sea and Tian religion and society, and quietly waiting for the sign that the oracle said was coming. Appearance:
Kaede is a slight Tien woman. She keeps her jet black hair cut just past her shoulders, decorated primarily with a thin set of red, green and gold dyed feathers pinned along the left side of her face. She tends to wear bright, short-sleeved robes, so that her birthmark, set just past her elbow on her inner right arm, is visible to anyone that looks for it. If she's actively training, she has a worn, but well maintained set of lamellar that she'll wear. No matter where she is, Kaede is rarely without her glaive. The wood of the shaft is a pale wood with a dark blade attached to it. Over a dozen brightly colored ribbons are loosely tied near the blade, making it seem like Kaede has a rainbow trail following her wherever she goes. Personality:
Kaede is a rather quiet and intropective member of the Shelynite clergy. She strongly believes in trying to talk her way out of combat starting, but is unhestiant in fighting back once the fighting does start. She's more attracted to the beauty of the transitory: musicians playing, a cooked meal, even a lover's quarrel. She feels that performing these actions, even in repetition, brings a more intense feelings of joy then more lasting artistic endeavors. While distinctly a martial member of Shelyn's clergy, Kaede firmly denies that she's one of "Shelyn's Samurai," as she puts it, "but a mere guardian of the world's beauty." |
