Male Human Warhammer 40K GM

No problem, Eradico, a hectic week has left me little free time to post this week, too.

I'll NPC as needed, enjoy your trip.

I'll be posting sizable updates to both campaigns tonight, but also wanted to make everyone aware of this development for Only War, the forthcoming Imperial Guard game for Warhammer 40K's RPG line.

It seems we could probably start a campaign a little early for Only War if prospective GM Eradico is up for it. The pdf runs $20, but you get a rebate for the same amount from the site when you purchase the final pdf in August, so it is a pretty good deal. I've downloaded it, and it seems to be of the usual FFG quality, even as a beta document.

I can't wait to finally get a chance to play in this setting, and will be willing to throw all the effort I can muster into helping you set it up Eradico. Let me know what you think...

Hey, I'm back. Me and my kid were at Cub Scout camp. Felt a little like IG training with the 95-100 degree heat we experienced!

I'm all in for this. Great idea, Rook. I will need your help in setting up the wiki and will P.M. you in this regard.

As I posted earlier, please stay away from Eleventh Hour, the Free Demo adventure. I will run this as the opener.

Since I've never ran a PbP, this will be beta in the full sense of the word, GM and rules! :)

I do not have the rules/adventure/characters downloaded, but I'm happy to try and facilitate as many characters as possible. Consider everyone from Rook's games as formally invited. Let me know if you're interested in getting the Beta download and playing in the game.

And if I remember correctly, Rad claimed dibs on the Commissar...

Thanks for prompting this, Rook!

Pre-gen characters for 11th Hour:

(Catachan Jungle Regiment)

Heavy Gunner
Weapons Specialist (Stealth/Recon)
Tech-Pries Engiseer
Ogryn
Ratling Sniper
Commissar (Rad, unless he states otherwise)

There are character creation rules so I'm open to other character types (sanctioned psyker, medic, ministorium priest, stormtrooper).

Oh, and Rook I'm slotting you for the "Sergeant" role if you're open to it.

EDIT: If/when you get the beta-pdf, don't read the adventure at the end, "Against the Savages." Might use that too.

This is my character for 11th hour.

GM W.R. Monger

I do not have those rules T.T so I don't know how to create them but it would be fun to make a Elysian Drop Troop soldier or Death Corps of Krieg.

I would need help creating the character and it will probably be a stormtrooper or just a regular trooper.

Must have been a Death World, hopefully you still managed to have fun!

Eradico Pravus wrote:

I will be more than happy to put the wiki together and help with the upkeep, Eradico. I think a two person team can probably make better use of a wiki than a GM trying to both post and keep the wiki current, I still am trying to find time to update mine (but it is on the list).

Eradico Pravus wrote:

I'm keeping it out of sight, out of mind, surprises are part of the fun.

Eradico Pravus wrote:

I can absolutely say you will be very good at it, Eradico, the PbP format does lend itself to some advantages, chief among them pacing things so that you can get everything in order before you proceed. Table play, while it has its own perks (faster play), sometimes leads to oversights or forgetting things in the heat of the moment.

I have a pretty good grasp of the core WH40K RPG system now, so I'll help out with any rules questions. While I hate 'rules-lawyers' I'm OK with being a 'rules-paralegal' of sorts if it helps.

I downloaded the PDF, and while it is not absolutely necessary for playing, I can help out as a resource if anyone wants more information on character creation, or if they had a specific ideas in mind for what they wanted to create.

Eradico Pravus wrote:

Kind of scary, that! ;-)

I'll be happy to play a sergeant...I'm just happy to get a chance to play, period!

Eradico Pravus wrote:

No problem, Eradico, like I said, I really want to play.

First and foremost you should set up a recruiting or OOC thread so that we can start brainstorming. One thing that I was wondering about, was whether or not we could perhaps build our own Imperial Guard regiment according to the rules in the pdf. I'll understand if you want to go with Catachan for the sake of the Free RPG Day adventure, but I thought it would be a pretty good collaborative effort if we built a distinct regiment of our own to hail from for the campaign, and kind of do a round table about its origins, peculiarities etc. using those rules. Let me know what you think.

Rookseye wrote:

I'll endeavor to get this done soon.

This is a great idea and I'm totally open to it. Collaborative should have some interesting results!

EDIT: Looks like the campaign setting is the "Spinward Front" of the Calixis Sector. Perhaps there will be Oremor I.G. units? ;)

Deiros,

As with Rook, I can help with character creation from a distance. It will look familiar as with other FFG releases.

With regard to regimental choices, the beta rules have the following choices:

Cadian Shock Troops
Catachan Jungle Fighters
Death Korps of Krieg
Elysian Drop Troops
Maccabian Jannisaries
Mordian Iron Guard
Tallarn Desert Raiders
Vostroyan First-Born

or as Rook mentioned there are rules for "Create Your Own Regiment" which I think we will try/discuss once the OOC thread gets up and running (give me a couple of days).

All members will be from the same regiment (no mixing of chapters as with Deathwatch), although I suppose the Commissar could be the lone exception.

And Rook--Sent you an email.

GM W.R. Monger

O.o I don't see his email, if he sent me one for some weird reason, will see if I didn't deleted by mistake.

Well sounds like fun to create your own ^^

I do love the new Elysian figures/vehicles ^^ to bad they are quite expensive.

Oops, sorry Deiros... I was letting Rook know that I sent him an email, not you. Trying to get details on how to get the campaign up and running. :)

Oh! My apology good Ser, I miss understood and was about to go crazy looking for the email lol.

Well creating your own regiment sounds fine also, we just need to know what type that doesn't fall to the already existing ones.

Count me in for the game guys.

Eradico

Spoiler:
Unfortunately I can't afford the pdf for awhile so will probably wait for the book. If you can email me class info I would appreciate it. Looking at playing the sniper role -(Not Ratling). As I haven't covered that role yet with previous characters. Leaning toward playing a Vostroyan. Course if there are differnt stats for them I would need a listing as well. Email is rypclaw@yahoo.com

No prob, Bal. We'll make it work... You're in!

Male Catfolk Shade (magically altered human) Monk-8, Mage-16

I am sorry that my posting has been sporadic. I have been going to work at 4 a.m. . I am trying to keep up. Right now, both Quintus and Uriah are both watching intently what is going on.

Eradico, I do not know much about Imperial Guard, being a chaos player exclusively, but I am willing to try. I also won't have the rules until the book comes out. so I will need help with character generation.

Dark Archive

GM W.R. Monger

Imperial Guard hmm... just imagine some sort of World War II propaganda and how soldiers are indoctrinated and trained, then put it in the W40k setting, that about sums it up in a very quick not in depth way.

Male Catfolk Shade (magically altered human) Monk-8, Mage-16

Thanks, Deiros.

Dark Archive

GM W.R. Monger

No problems.

Probably the novels make a far much more better resource or even the IG army book, but glad that brief explanation worked.

Just remember to add the Blair witches trail flair into the mix.

Deiros, nice description.

Hey guys, I understand the cost issue. I think between me and Rook we can help get everyone set up. I've greatly enjoyed playing with all involved in Rook's two campaigns so I'd like to do what we can to facilitate play for anyone who's interested. As for fluff, if you've read any Gaunt's Ghosts, Last Chancers, Caiphas Cain or seen Enemy at the Gates then you get the feel.

Dark Archive

GM W.R. Monger

I might be able to read it at the local store IF I'm lucky so I can help come up with something interesting or at least don't slow down things.

OK, guys, let's take discussion for the Imperial Guard campaign here.

Dark Archive

Male Human Warhammer 40K GM

I understand if everyone is still stuck on the solution to this, partly it has to do with the pacing of a play by post game, were we around a table the answer would probably be much more obvious, as the time played would be much shorter, with events fresher in your memory.

I'll give you a hint: the object is with one of you and the answer lies back during the events on Tantalus.

Nice we got necrons coming up too...

What do you guys think of the new 6th edition rules (for those that play W40k).

Male Catfolk Shade (magically altered human) Monk-8, Mage-16

I will play my first game tomorrow at Balfic's. I haven't seen any 'why did they put that there?', but i don't necessarily agree with everything. I will tell you tomorrow how it goes.

Dark Archive

GM W.R. Monger

From what I can see after 1 game.

Spoiler:

I think hull points is interesting idea, makes transports harder to blow up and more viable to deploy razorbacks. Dreadnoughts just got a beefier and harder to kill.

Bikes are hard to kill with now T5 all the time.

I do think the whirlwind is going to be worth to buy now (with the skyfire missiles) just to blow up flyers.

Terminators with Lightning claw are very useful now.

Snap Shots are a true horrible thing to take on (Lost 3 marines to that thing).

I feel bad for Fleet, Shrike just got shelved unless I use him as a secondary hero.

Allies I will have to wait until I buy some models or borrow them to see how it goes.

I hate that regular marines don't have access to divination, but that makes Tigurius da bomb.

Male Catfolk Shade (magically altered human) Monk-8, Mage-16

I had a tough battle with my Daemons facing Space Wolves. I won after 5 rounds by victory points. He only had the SW version of a terminator lord with a thunder hammer, and I only had 7 out of 14 Horrors, my soulgrinder with only 1 hull point left, and my Lord of Change with only 1 w left. The LoC and soulgrinder were a nasty combo, but his long fangs were dangerous. I like the Hull points rules, but dont't like what they did to power weapons. I like the fear rules, but still working on the flying monstrous creature rules. In general, I think once I get used to the rules, it will be okay.

Hi Retias, hope you are still following along!

Sorry about the long wait, but Brother Bjorn is finally ready to join the campaign. I have submitted your first post, and you well and truly will be a 'Lone Wolf' at least for the beginning of your time in game.

Welcome to the campaign!

Most excellent! Glad you can join, Retias!

OK, have not heard from Retias directly (via PM), and it looks like he hasn't posted anything since the end of June. Fortunately, we can hold off a little bit with Brother Bjorn's portion of the story, so he still has ample time to join.

Really, it is my fault, I hadn't expected to run the Omega Vault sequence quite this long, but what can I say, I was seized by inspiration, and the the enigma of the Vault is one of my favorite elements of the setting, and the chance to delve deeper into that was just too tempting. I hope everyone is enjoying it.

That said, we should be officially starting the Emperor Protects in the next couple of weeks, so cross your fingers that Retias is still with us. I was really impressed with the background he wrote for Brother Bjorn, so I'm hoping he will be playing soon.

I'm loving the current sequence even though I'm accumulating insanity points because of it!

Dang, Rook. I should have warned Retias. You invited me into the DH campaign and it took seventh moths before I finally got in! ;)

Hopefully Retias checks in every so often. Fingers crossed.

Nice roll, Bal, and sorry for the delay, but I'm going to make you wait one more day for the results as the Only War character sheet prep took longer than I thought today. Don't worry though, the Dark Angels, chapter of secrets, are about to be rewarded for keeping another one.

I would like to apologize to you for disappearing for the most part of the week. Circumstances beyond my control have left me no choice. My home city of Marikina in the Philippines was flooded for the most part since August 7, 2012 until today August 10, 2012. Water rose to as high as 20 meters. Power was cut to prevent electricity related fatalities, hence, the lack of posts.

For many of us here, this is the second time since 2009 that our homes have been flooded. We are still lucky since we are still here to celebrate our survival.

Now that power is constant, expect my posting to return to normal.

Does anyone have the Deathwatch: Honor the Chapter book?

I heard it has additional advances for some Chapters (like Sword bretheren and Tempest Blades), plus many more Chapters fleshed out with psychic powers and unique relics.

I have it, Deiros, let me know what you would like to know specifically and I will post a summary here.

I was just curious of what new chapters they included and relics.

Dark Archive

Male Human Warhammer 40K GM

Wow, where to start.

As far as successor chapters, the Badab War looks pretty well represented, and it looks like the last two major chapters (Black Templars/Storm Wardens) in the core book finally got some love with alternate career paths.

Black Templars:

  • Champions of Sigismund
  • Sword Brother
  • The Emperor's Champion

Storm Wardens:

  • Champions of Sacris
  • Tempest Blade

As far as successor chapters, the Badab War looks pretty well represented, and it looks like the last two major chapters (Black Templars/Storm Wardens) in the core book finally got some love.

The detailed Chapter listing is considerable, focusing on successor chapters of course:

Successor Chapters:

  • Blood Ravens (Dawn of War video game chapter)
  • Red Scorpions
  • Marines Errant
  • Flesh Tearers
  • Crimson Fists
  • Howling Griffins
  • Novamarines
  • Raptors
  • Carcharodons

There are also brief write-ups on:

Blood Angels Successors:

  • Angels Encarmine
  • Angels Sanguine
  • Angels Vermillion

Dark Angels Successors:

  • Angels of Vengeance
  • The Disciples of Caliban
  • Guardians of the Covenant

Other Codex Successor Chapters:

  • Doom Eagles
  • Fire Angels
  • Silver Skulls
  • Knights of the Raven
  • Sons of Medusa
  • Fire Hawks
  • Astral Claws
  • Exorcists
  • Fire Lords
  • Minotaurs
  • Star Phantoms
  • Invaders

...and even the Legion of the Damned is mentioned (essentially a mysterious, ghostly order of space marines who have a knack for appearing where they are most needed to provide aid in battle to their brethren.

If you'd like me to elaborate on anything just let me know, I just started reading it, but will be glad to peek ahead.

Having not heard from Retias, I am crossposting my offer for Mark Sweetman to join us in Sons of Jericho, taking on the role of the Space Wolf, Brother Bjorn.

Cross-posted from Only War - The Forsaken OOC

Mark Sweetman wrote:

Rookseye - Definitely interested and will have a double check over my book when I get home (Deathwatch is one of the few books I only have in hardcopy and not PDF).

Space Wolves is fine with me, and I'm guessing that a Scout type is still preferred? - are you ok with me re-working the character within the Space Wolf shell? (as in re-rolling characteristics and changing advances, etc)

Absolutely, the entire character can be re-rolled and re-worked in the shell of the chapter and basic archetype.

I would normally allow you to create your own character, but the wheels of the story already turned in this regard.

I'm even fine with you abandoning the Wolf Scout career and being a straight specialty, as long as the character has the individualistic tendencies that make him suitable for working a solitary mission.

He is already a member of the Death Watch, he is just unaffiliated with any Kill-team at present and has been assigned to Aurum to covertly monitor the activities/interactions between the native population and the small mission established there.

I'd advise reading the Sons of Jericho IC to get better acquainted with the campaign as well, not absolutely necessary to start, but it will give you some context. The last couple of pages have Brother Bjorn's initial appearance as well, along with a request for action. This scene can remain suspended until such a time as you are ready, though.

Strength: 2d10 + 30 ⇒ (10, 8) + 30 = 48
Toughness: 2d10 + 30 ⇒ (1, 6) + 30 = 37
Agility: 2d10 + 30 ⇒ (6, 9) + 30 = 45

Willpower: 2d10 + 30 ⇒ (8, 7) + 30 = 45
Fellowship: 2d10 + 30 ⇒ (4, 6) + 30 = 40

Toughness Re-Roll: 2d10 + 30 ⇒ (2, 5) + 30 = 37

Ooh - very decent, I like (pity about the Toughness, but you can't have everything) :P

Waves to all and sundry - I'll be checking over my DW book when I get home tonight to nut out exactly how my version of Brother Bjorn will look to play out.

Picked up First Founding and Rites as PDFs and am happy to stick with the Wolf Scout based as written on a Tac Marine shell.
