Hopefully nothing that shoots also and hits your head ^^

I was thinking if we are with no apothecary and our only heavy support character goes apothecary maybe I could get the heavy weapons so there will be no position empty?

After some time I finally ended it ^^ if someone likes it

EXECUTIONERS

Spoiler:

Chapter History

The Executioners are an ancient and proud Chapter whose origins are found in the chaotic centuries following the Horus Heresy. This Chapter's Astartes are the proud scions of the Imperial Fists Legion. Their patriarch was reputedly one of Primarch Rogal Dorn's most ruthless captains, by the name of Fafnir Rann. Aside from an unbreakable sense of honor and a history of unparalleled skill at arms, they share little in common with their forebears' culture and traditions, nor do they maintain any strong ties to any but their own successors within the Adeptus Astartes. Some of their fellow Space Marines view the Executioners as little more than ill-disciplined primitives and gore-splattered headhunters, little better than renegades. Yet, far from being a Chapter composed of nothing more than a barbarous horde in Space Marine guise, one must consider that the Executioners have a high degree of blood-bought battle wisdom and possess a certain deliberate cunning that has enabled them to attain a record of unwavering success in their service to the Imperium during some of the darkest periods in its history.

Stygia-Aquilon
This Chapter is based on the Imperium's fringes along the desolate void wastes to the galactic south-south-west, between the borders of the Segmentum Tempestus and Segmentum Pacificus, although in their long history they have been accustomed to great voyages and forlorn quests, having fought the width and breadth of the Imperium in the past. Since the closing years of the 37th Millennium the Chapter has made its home on the twin worlds of Stygia and Aquilon; both infamous planets of fire and ice locked in a perpetual orbit ellipsing around a giant, slowly-dying sun. The Chapter's Fortress-Monastery is a huge armored asteroid base known as the Darkenvault which is gravitationally trapped in the Lagrange point between these two worlds. It is from this bleak and foreboding bastion that the Executioners' skull-prowed warships sally forth into the galaxy in search of targets to destroy

The Way of Glory

It is only by right of bloodshed, by taking the lives of the Emperor's enemies. That an Executioners Battle-Brother can be granted the honor of a place in the Chapter chronicles, and thereby earn the respect of their fellow Space Marines and so attain rank and honor within the Chapter. The Battle-Brothers of this Chapter have an intractable and ambitious nature. Quick to anger, an Executioners Astartes is taught to avenge slights to their honor with blood, even amongst their own, but unlike the few other Chapters where such behavior is tolerated or even encouraged (such as the Space Wolves or Marauders for example), there is little that passes in the way of brawling or boisterous competition amongst the Executioners Astartes, for all such battles are to the maiming or the death of those involved. In their extreme view, honor demands no less.

The Executioners prefer to engage the enemy as closely as possible. This ensures victory and glory for their Chapter. They are unafraid of battles of attrition or mutual destruction, relying on the abilities of their Battle-Brothers to overcome and endure anything the enemy can throw at them. At times this has proven to be a flaw, as the Chapter has a predilection to fight on once engaged where it’s better strategic judgment might have otherwise prevailed before its bloodlust was roused.

The Executioners tendencies to carry trophies from the battlefield are taken from particularly noteworthy victims, and including such items as skulls, heads, and enemy weapons. They do not take these trophies for any ritual purpose but rather for the tally of the Death-Speakers after the battle. They are then promptly discarded after serving their purpose unless judged to be particularly significant, in which case they are preserved as relics, often adorning the Space Marine's armor or wargear for a time.

The Executioners' spiritual beliefs have endured since before the rise of the Adeptus Ministorum. These beliefs primarily take the form of animism and ancestor worship, and while they ascribe to the worship of the divine God-Emperor, the Executioners have little use for the Ecclesiarchy and its trappings and "petty" superstitions, save for as a useful tool of social control to bind together the scattered multitudes of the Imperium.

Combat Doctrine

This Chapter's ancient ways and beliefs are rooted in the feral worlds from which they have long recruited their Neophytes. By the laws and traditions of their Chapter, each Executioners Battle-Brother is expected to forge their own path to glory and become worthy of remembrance in the great chronicles that have been kept by successive generations of the Chapter's Chaplains, or "Death-Speakers" as they are also known. It is the Death-Speakers' task to recount the slaughter-tallies of the Chapter's honored dead during holy feasts and memorial ceremonies held deep within the Darkenvault's catacombs. Their second but equally important task is to keep order within the ranks of the often fractious Chapter. Consequently, the Executioners maintain an unusually high number of Chaplains, with three assigned to each company by tradition. They report to the overall High Chaplain, also known as the Lord Speaker of the Dead. As part of their duties they are responsible for maintaining precise records of the Chapter's battles, so that lessons of both victories and defeats are never lost for future warriors of the Chapter.

The Executioners adhere very strictly to the tenets of the Codex Astartes despite their barbaric and unsophisticated reputation. The Chapter's structure and organization follow the Codex closely, with only a few minor changes in orthodoxy which largely reflects a tendency towards close-range fire fights and brutal hand-to-hand combat. These tactics are preferred by the Chapter's Battle-Brothers so as to more rapidly prove themselves in such decisive combats rather than using hit-and-run tactics and long range firepower in their operations. Within the Chapter's battle companies this tactical bias is represented by the replacement of one of the standard Codex-compliant Devastator squads for Sternguard Veteran squads of the Company's finest warriors. The use of bikes and attack bikes is disdained by the Chapter, who has a preference for the use of Land Speeders for scouting duties, and heavy armor wherever possible for assault and reconnaissance in force.

Each Executioners company captain is treated as a warlord in his own right, with great independence of action afforded to them. The company captains, the Chapter's Chief Librarian, Master of the Forge and Lord Speaker of the Dead (High Chaplain) form a war council which the High Executioner (Chapter Master) must heed despite possessing ultimate authority. This war council may, by unanimous assent, overthrow the Chapter Master should he prove unfit or unworthy in their eyes. Unlike the traditions of most Space Marine Chapters, contests for leadership are quite bloody in the extreme; each company captain has the right to challenge for the title of High Executioner in trial by combat should they wish to do so.

Past Experience
1. Invasion of Nova Sulis: You were among the first to engage in battle against the apostates and traitors.
2. Astrates Honor: You were there when the rare honors were granted of having a new Chapter raised from the Executioners gene-seed.
3. Battle of Carrion: You were from the few that escaped the ambush of the foul necrons.
4. Badab War: You honored your pact with your brothers and stood beside them until the end of the war, receiving pardon and crusading thereafter.
5. Worthy Trophy: You collected a trophy from a great enemy in battle; it is your personal relic.

Chapter Demeanor

The Headsman
The Executioners believe that their Chapter was created for the sole task of seeking out and slaughtering Mankind's foes rather than undertaking any more defensive or strategic purpose. This Chapter is bellicose and almost barbarous in nature, and disdains martial trappings and the ordered obedience of other more stalwart Codex-compliant Chapters such as the Ultramarines and their own forebears the Imperial Fists. The Executioners have made up for this "flaw" by gaining a fearsome reputation for sheer undaunted endurance and destructive wrath. Their primary goal and purpose as a Chapter is a simple one; to extinguish the life of those that would have the audacity to contest the Imperium's manifest destiny or threaten humanity. The Executioners literally see themselves as the Emperor's chosen headsmen, and His judgment theirs to enact on His behalf.

Executioner Space Marines value strength at arms and the slaughtering of Mankind’s foes. An Executioner Space marine gains the following benefits: +5 Weapon Skill +2 Wounds.

Bonus Talent: Duty Unto Death
Restrictions: Executioners cannot take the Deathwatch Devastator Marine. Cannot use Sus-an Membrane or Betcher’s Gland.

Path to glory
The martial traditions of the Executioners have been passed down for centuries and form as much a part of their existence as their flesh, blood, or bone. These traditions come with a rigorous adherence to honor and burning hunger for glory that can lead a Executioner to make reckless decisions to uphold the name of his Chapter and earn himself renown among his peers.

Level 1 (Avenge Slight): The Executioners pride does not let him refuse a challenge or the chance for glory. Whenever an enemy challenges or taunts the Battle-Brother, he must make a Challenging (+0) Willpower Test or engage it in combat, favoring melee attacks unless this would clearly not be possible.

Level 2 (Close in for the Kill): Those in the Path to Glory favor close melee combat, where the blood of their foes flows before them. Unless there is no possible way to close with a foe, the Battle-Brother will always favor melee combat over ranged combat and will charge into the fray, discarding the bolter for the hungry teeth of a chainsword.

Level 3 (Death before Dishonor): Executioners seldom back down once a challenge has been accepted, and once blood has been shed it can end only one way. If the Battle-Brother suffers a Wound after accepting a challenge, he must make a Hard (–20) Willpower Test to disengage or stop fighting his foe until it is dead (unless compelled by Psychic Powers of similar means).

OH! I totally forgot it since he used a flamer, my fault ^^

No problem, Deiros. Remember, against hordes, A heavy flamer with my talents does (2d5+8)*2 magnitude damage. So with a minimum roll, that does 20 pts of magnitude damage.

Wasn't lexicanum ^^ let you guess he source tough xD just gonna say I have been in the hobby for about 10 years ^^ so I have plenty of material like old codex and marines 3rd edition rulebook an such lil' things I can't wait for the next book so I can make my carcharadons from the ravens ^^

Bal, Vex's behavior is making it hard for Emeric to hate the psyker. Creating some nice internal ambivalence for the Templar!

Male Half-Orc 9th lvl Cleric, 4th lvl Ninja, 1st lvl Black Flame Zealot

@Deiros Lol completely understand with collections. Been in the hobby myself for over 20 years. Even further back with Fantasy. Have a bookcase full of White Dwarfs alone. Since your going back 10 years I am guessing the Insignium Astartes. Sad thing is with so many subtle revisions of the Fluff we both might never agree, but both be right.

@Eradio Glad your enjoying it. Playing a Librarian gives me an opportunity to to explore a very unique viewpoin/history that has been forgotten in alot of the newer fluff.

Examples-Each point of the Star of Chaos represented the 4 Greater and the 4 Lesser powers of Chaos. Who are they?

What do the Emperors Children guard at the center of the Eye of Terror?

What is the orginal reason why one eye is missing from the Aquila?

What heritage do the Dark Angels hail from? Why is it so important in regard to the Fallen?

Dark Archive

GM W.R. Monger

Yes new librarians are totally remade fluff wise to a certain extent. They pretty much got rid of the 4 lesser power mates made them nonexistant from 3rd edition I think never knew why. Also at one time there was this the greater God of chaos Malal The Renegade God - God of Anarchy, Vengeance and Nihilism.

Male Half-Orc 9th lvl Cleric, 4th lvl Ninja, 1st lvl Black Flame Zealot

He is actually one of the Lesser Four =) He was the Father of Chaos and was overthrown, by what we now know to be the Greater Four. Use to play his army back in 1st Ed. They use to call his army the Doomed Ones.

I'll give you a hint with regards to the other three. Two were banished to the Warhammer World, the last hasn't been born yet. Though he is in the Malus Darkblade Series...

Dark Archive

GM W.R. Monger

I read the series of Malus Darkblade ^^ so I know what your are saying.

He was the big one considered the top 5 in the fluff I have, so that's why the star back then had 5 long points and 3 small ones at the top, making the middle one of the bottom part the longest.

But I don't remember well which are the other 2

Hashut is the Chaos dwarves god

Kweethul the first rat that is basically the horned rat and was a servant of nurgle.

Necoho the doubter I think this was a lesser one.

Zuvassin the Great Undoer wish I think is another lesser one.

Screaming God Child which is actually the one that puts Tzárkan in Malus Darkblade (if I remember correctly)

Atagro the lord of beasts who is basically the patron god of the beastmen and other creatures of the sort from chaos making him the third minor one.

I think I got the reason in the game of the "missing eye"

The dark angels and the Emperor's children one I do know really xD except for the tear of the fabric in reality in the eye of terror but that is probably not what they really guard.

Male Half-Orc 9th lvl Cleric, 4th lvl Ninja, 1st lvl Black Flame Zealot

You nailed them. Kweethul, Hashut, and the Screaming God Child aka The Star Child.

They started throwing out other God names starting around 3rd ed. Last I counted they were up to 32 Chaos Gods. Most honorifics to other fantasy and sci authors.

As for the Dark Angels yes there is a link between them and the Emperor's Children. But it deals with the ethnicity of the geneseeds. And there legends of those people.

Male Catfolk Shade (magically altered human) Monk-8, Mage-16

I know what the Emperor's Children guard at the center of the Eye of Terror, because Balfic and I have discussed this a lot, being both chaos players, but I will let the rest of you work it out.

Dark Archive

GM W.R. Monger

Not very nice that is lore that escapes me since I think it predates 3rd edition and I do have limited knowledge of 2nd and far less 1st.

I like Khorne as a god but Nurgle is way more fun as there is many aspects of him you can role play and his rules in the game are more interesting than Khorne.

Male Half-Orc 9th lvl Cleric, 4th lvl Ninja, 1st lvl Black Flame Zealot

While what the Emperor's Children are doing in the middle of the Eye of Terror is a 1st Ed story plot. They included it in the Liber Chaotica releases. I am solid with 1st-5th ed lore. 1st and 3rd ed being my strongest area's. Only been falling behind with the current HH stuff. Too many books to actively keep up with.

Balfic-graa wrote:

Well that and some of the latter HH reads have been lame, dull stuff.

Dark Archive

GM W.R. Monger

Yes Eradico is right with the HH stuff it's just not that great now a days.

Sad they removed all the minor chaos gods they would be excellent for armies and maybe not as good in sales/retail perhaps but at least some rules for those that like to play them.

OK Ellipsis, I updated the sheet, exchanging Enhanced Healing for Guardians of Purity.

Your Armor History results from Rite of Battle (p. 153-155) grant:

"Blood of the Enemy": Gain the Fear (1) trait against foes.

"Gauntlets of Xirion": +10 WS, +5 Fel modifier to interaction rolls with members or allies of the Imperium. Gives you MK IV gauntlets, reducing AP on that location to 7.

Brother Syne loses the "None Shall Escape the Emperor's Wrath", lowering his BS by 5 and eliminating his Dodge penalty for melee.

Net changes for your Mark VI Corvis armor are as follows:

Head: 8

Male Half-Orc 9th lvl Cleric, 4th lvl Ninja, 1st lvl Black Flame Zealot

From what I understand the book should be set to release in late Nov. Will be picking it, and the new version of IA Apoc. Monstrous Arcana should be out sometime next year.

I have to admit I love the new look for the Chaos Dwarves, but cringe at the price.

Dark Archive

GM W.R. Monger

Yes Forgeworld prices are not cheap on anything they do. I accept their quality is superb but they are a bit overpriced. I still need to buy Tyberos for my Carcharodons army.

The only thing I rant about is there are no rules to Create and Alpha Legion anymore I was going to use regular space marine miniatures for them just add chaos decals and their regular decal (blue-green color scheme) but there is no real way to protray this guys, maybe they are similiar to the astral claws army list in the Imperial Armor (according to what they do in Legion). I must admit haveing two primarchs is fun xD even if one is " dead" tho noone knows for sure.

Male Catfolk Shade (magically altered human) Monk-8, Mage-16

I got my copy of Black Crusade today.

Male Half-Orc 9th lvl Cleric, 4th lvl Ninja, 1st lvl Black Flame Zealot

Actually you can portray Alpha Legion in Siege of Vraks 1. They are an Elite choice in the Renegades Army.

Also Chaos Legions is suppose to be released right after 6th Ed. So looking most likely sometime in August. The lawsuit against Chapter House has really screwed up release schedules. Tyranids and Eldar are both suffering, and will most likely just get WD updates until things are resolved.

Dark Archive

GM W.R. Monger

I didn't know it was that bad, friggin games workshop ot a bit greedy but I can't blame Chapterhouse for making custom made accesories for all tastes since games workshop won't doit since the market for those accessories is not big enough and forge world is an expensive thing that is not even valid to use in official turnaments either.

Male Catfolk Shade (magically altered human) Monk-8, Mage-16

In this case, it is not GW being greedy. It is Chapterhouse trying to run over GW's IP, and say that if they make a mini first, then GW has to pay them to use that named mini even even though it was in the codex.

Dark Archive

GM W.R. Monger

Oh! I wasn't aware of that part I just had general knowledge of the lawsuit not the specifics of it, then I hope they kick Chapterhouse butt xD

Yes they want it to be compatible to a certain point, but the character creation is very different and prices of advances. This I suppose it's ok since it's a totally different way to operate and such in game terms and fluff wise I suppose.

I read the Alpha Legion in siege of vraks but those are kind of old rules and it's basically a mixed unit of bolt pistols+chain sword, champion, bolt gun, 1 heavy weapon, 1 special weapon.

This is like a squad of Carcharodons Astra if I'm using Tyberos. Still fluff wise they also should be able to use other like guardsmen units or other chaos units for their purposes.

Reminds me of a short story in the Maelstorm novel if anyone read it, it's about the Black Consuls and the Alpha Legion to a certain extent.

Yes Lorm, it appears they are going with the errata stats with the new releases, so I'd judge they probably retooled the damage values for weapons to create better balance. We'll be going to these new stats for the next part of the campaign, and likely onward, unless they fail drastically when put into use. I already updated all of your character sheets and the Bolter Drill page on the wiki with the new information.

Great post, Bal. That was a tactful way to defuse a surprisingly tense debriefing. Coming from Lyriel with his own wariness of the Inquisition makes the effort doubly impressive. Shows he is looking out for the other members of the squad even at his own peril.

OK, I'd just like a little feedback from each of you on what goals/interactions each character would like to pursue through a short series of vignette scenes during the downtime between missions. I have some specific things in mind for some of you, but would like to hear if there is anything else that the individual brothers of Kill-team Umbra would like to do while in Watch Fortress Erioch. The canon lore as written about the Watch Fortress in the Deathwatch core rulebook and other supplements holds true here, so you can use that as a launching point if you like. I'll list below some of the encounters I have in mind for some of you, if there is anything further you'd like to do, please let me know in OOC below.

  • Brother Emeric: A couple of encounters, one I'm keeping under wraps for now, another, an audience with the recovered Magos if the Black Templar wishes it.
  • Brother Decius: Training, training, training! Unfortunately, Brother Decius is now completely cut off from his brothers amongst the Iron Snakes, as he has been declared a casualty of the Fall of Tantalus so that the Inquisition can maintain the utmost secrecy regarding the Deathwatch mission there. Interactions with the Karlack 2nd to determine their ultimate fate are also out of the question, as they remain under quarantine, unless Brother Decius dares to do some covert investigations of his own.
  • Brother Hrothgar: Entirely up to Rad, but there are some prominent Space Wolf NPC's among the Deathwatch of the Watch Fortress that he may choose to have dialogue with, among them, the Forge Master and Iron Priest, Harl Greyweaver or the Deathwatch Champion, the legendary Wolf, Attalus Fellhand.
  • Brother Quintus: The Ultramarine may wish to smooth matters over with Inquisitor Quist, should the opportunity present itself, as it is in his chapter's nature to lead through example and broker cooperation. Optionally, one of the oldest serving members of the Deathwatch is the legendary Ultramarine, Arius Hyzeron, whose watch has extended for over 400 years if rumors are to be believed. He may be a wealth of information and guidance for Quintus.
  • Brother Caledonii: An obvious choice would be his suspicions regarding the adept rescued from Tantalus, Roge Halis. Additionally, as a grizzled veteran himself, if not of the Deathwatch, of squad tactics in general, he might take the young Iron Snake under his wing during his training. There are also several notable Storm Wardens serving among the Deathwatch, should he care to interact with them.
  • Brother Syne: The options for the Dark Angel are wide open. From brooding out one of the void-port viewing windows while gazing upon the sleek, black kill-ships that have doomed so many a world, to tending to the wounded Brother Sepheren, whom he will replace as apothecary.
  • Brother Vex: The reluctant diplomat certainly probably wishes no more interaction with the Inquisition at this point, but some contact with the other Dark Angels of the Deathwatch may be in order. One of the more notable is one of the Watch Captains themselves, an Asatartes named Ramiel.

As specified above, please post your thoughts in OOC below.

Male Half-Orc 9th lvl Cleric, 4th lvl Ninja, 1st lvl Black Flame Zealot

While Lyriel would for the most part study endless lore. I think he would enjoy talking with fellow Dark Angels. Though I think he would be hesitant to talk about his recent past.

He would definately like to avoid Quist, but I am afraid he instead put himself on center stage with his well chosen words. As he and the Inquisitor have more similiarities than differences.

Male Catfolk Shade (magically altered human) Monk-8, Mage-16

One of the first things I would have Brother Quintus do is get healed and repair his armour. He would recite the codex, and after that he would try to smooth things out.

Dark Archive

GM W.R. Monger

Well decius will keep the karlack 2nd regiment sword with him as a memento of sorts, kind of like an honor badge. I will probably try finding out what happened to the karlack 2nd survivors.

Train when I can with Hrothgar, I have to beat him this time ^^. Now that I read my post I was not trying to make amends with Emeric when defending him from the Inquisitor, I was mereley defending the Astrates in general but I guess it turned out to be for the better the way I did it.

I also have my questions about my "vision" when we had our last stand that I might address to our librarian Vex (hope I reember the right name).

I will return my normal wargear to my chapter as it's proper of a fallen brother and take that of a deathwatch.

I might even become a good chance to try out the deathwatch career of... forgot their name, the ones with no chapter badge maybe, I think my story so far could make me one until I redeem my self to my fallen brothers, but that is just a taught.

Male Half-Orc 9th lvl Cleric, 4th lvl Ninja, 1st lvl Black Flame Zealot

Think they are called Black Shields. Very cool career path.

Will post later tonight. Sorry, but been busy! Some great posts everybody!

Great post, Bal. That was a tactful way to defuse a surprisingly tense debriefing.

Sorry Rook. Didn't mean to escalate the debriefing to Defcon 1 like that!

Coming from Lyriel with his own wariness of the Inquisition makes the effort doubly impressive. Shows he is looking out for the other members of the squad even at his own peril.

Yeah, this should roleplay well! Nice, Bal!

Brother Emeric: A couple of encounters, one I'm keeping under wraps for now, another, an audience with the recovered Magos if the Black Templar wishes it.

Yes, a meeting with the Magos is definitely called for! I'm happy to roll with whatever you have in mind, Rook.

Emeric's goals will include contemplative meditation and intensive research in keeping with his studious demeanor. To justify the advances Emeric took (Forbidden Lore: Jericho Reach and Adeptus Mechanicus) let's say the Techmarine's interest is peaked and he plans on hitting the librarium and tech savants for info in these areas.

Eli will assist in the assessment of the quarantined survivors and will check on Sepheren to see how his recovery is progressing.
