DM Scarogoth's Carrion Crown Adventure (Inactive)

Game Master Scarogoth

A roleplaying campaign for four characters.

Hi Everyone,

I'm really beginning to enjoy myself on these boards, having only joined a few weeks ago. Now, naturally I have asked to play in many more games than I have been accepted for, but I still feel I'd like to do more, as one game failed very quickly, and the other has only just started, though seems very promising so far (thank you, WarEagle!).

I'm not new to PBP having played many games in the early days of Yahoo Groups with the D&D3.0/3.5 ruleset, of course, and had some marvellous times with people all over the world that stretched through years of gameplay. I am, I freely confess, relatively new to Pathfinder (only having discovered it existed recently -- a great relief after the disappointment of D&D4.0) but let's be honest, it's the same game, basically that I played all those years ago.

However, though I love the combat elements and the dice rolling -- and the fact that the programming code allows this to happen in messages is great -- the main thrill for me in PBP comes from the creative writing, roleplay, and interaction between characters.

Therefore I am proposing to run as DM (GM, sorry) the Carrion Crown Adventure Path, and wonder how much interest there would be from players like myself, who enjoy writing regularly and at length, and aren't just living for the next combat dice roll, and can live with the occasional slowdown in pace from the DM because of real-life pressures, but alleviate the hold-up through inspirational roleplaying between characters.

Is this a sensible adventure path to choose? Would there be interest? I'm not even going to start asking for character submissions as yet, but I'll warn you now that I'm not looking for "extremes" -- a halfling-tiefling-ifrit-cross barbarian with a baby-red-dragon mount and various cannons and firearms in his backpack is not my idea of fun. The rules are likely to be restricted to the Core Rulebook, and maybe the APG, if that alone is enough to turn people off.

As my main interest is in "dialogue", I propose we start talking in this thread if you're interested, and hopefully initial conversations and exchanges will show whether we're coming at this from the same angle. Writing style, frequency and consistency will be the most important things for me -- having said that, I hope I'm not coming over as pompous and insufferable, but I am just hoping to get the best team from the off, and not have to come back in a few weeks' time and try and replace people who have dropped out, for whatever reason.

I'd love to participate in your Carrion Crown AP. I think that module in particular might lend itself to some particularly good writing opportunities as we try to show our characters' fear and really get into the gothic horror atmosphere. I have a character in mind that I'd like to play - it'd be an inquisitor of Milani (a minor deity of revolutions and such). I'll see what I can do to flesh out a backstory that would fit with well with the AP.

I'm currently in a Kingmaker PbP playing a Paladin of Erastil - feel free to check out my profile (her name is Bea) if you'd like to see writing examples.

Very interested if it's 15/20 point buy. Im not into super powered games. I have this Ex-Paladin made for Carrion Crown using 20 point buy and im willing to drop to 15.
Just click my avatar for details.

Would love to play!I've been toying with a history loving wizard who strikes himself an archeologist. I'll put together a more concrete idea soon.

DM Scarogoth,
Thanks for volunteering to run an AP. I have a character I created for a Carrion Crown game that I dropped out of recently because of the speed of posting, I couldn't keep up. By the time I sat down to craft a response to a situation, five people would post in the interim and my post would be moot.

Cassandra Blackmoore: Changeling Oracle of Life

I personally love to sit down and take my time writing a post rather than just scribble something down and reply right away. I generally take my time writing an in-depth character background and develop a personality in keeping with that background (as you can see from Cassandra's background).

As with Count Buggula you can check out my profile for my two active characters Orin Ro and Marik Whiterose for my writing styles.

Thank you for your consideration and good luck.

Thank you! I'll work on fleshing out my backstory right away.

I'd like to play a paladin. She will have no archetypes and her main weapon will be a scythe, and her feat selection will be focused on two handed fighting and stuff that improves critical hits.

If you to see her backstory, I can write it up for you.

If you need a preview of my writing style and frequency of posting, check my alias Meraxilar Zoon (CN Cleric of Rovagug) in Tark's Council of Thieves PbP. :)

Definitely interested. I'd like to try out a dwarf ranger. I'll post a brief background soon.

I'd be interested in a campaign with a stronger emphasis on roleplaying. Combat can be fun, but I play these games more to play a persona participating in a story. First and foremost it is the story that intrigues me. What drew me to roleplaying in the first place was my love of fantasy books. When I run the game, I spend a great deal of time focusing on story development. I would enjoy playing with a GM that does the same. Most GMs I've played with run the game strictly by the module with a strong emphasis on combat, I've always wanted a GM to spend more time roleplaying. I feel as though roleplaying allows a player to more fully invest in their character and really feel involved in the world. So if that will be the emphasis of your game, you can color me interested.

I believe the Carrion Crown adventure path would provide you with an excellent story structure to play with. I enjoy horror in all its many aspects. I'm familiar with and have read H.P. Lovecraft, Bram Stoker, Mary Shelley, as well as watched multitudes of horror films of varying kinds. I would find it very entertaining to play in a horror genre AP.

Not sure what I would make. Would rather wait until you choose your players and then pick a class according to what is missing. I'm leaning towards a detective type, possibly a ranger or rogue/wizard.

Background:

Ghorum Kraak hails from the northern region of Lastwall, serving as a guide for the last 20 years for the troops patrolling the province of Virlych in Ustalav.

A somber, quiet man (not surprising for a dwarf), Ghorum seems an unfriendly sort at times, but deep down he appreciates demonstrations of loyalty, going so far as to risk his own life for those he feels are worthy.

He speaks little of his formative years, providing only tidbits of information, such as being raised in Janderhoff, in the Mindspin Mountains. He was almost to adulthood when his family was forced to move from his home due to some slight his father refused to speak of.

Whatever happened, Ghorum only knew that his father was devastated by it, and was never the same after that. He died shortly after arriving in the small border town/fort of Hammer Rock in Lastwall, leaving him a waraxe that had been handed down for the last 7 generations of the family. The weapon has served him well as he developed his skills in hunting the undead which prowl the wilds.

Ghorum was on a scouting mission a few years ago when he came upon an elderly man being assaulted by a few bandits. He was able to slay three of them before the rest ran away. Grateful for his help, the man introduced himself as Professor Lorrimor, promising to never forget Ghorum. He kept his word, even hiring Ghorum to serve as guide on a few outings. It has been more than a year since the Professor was in touch, and Ghorum occasionally wonders whatever became of the old man.

Hello Mr. Scarogoth, thank you for starting a game on here. I haven't played Carrion Crown before, but am familiar with the concept and I am excited by the prospect of playing it. I haven't done PBP before, but like the idea of being able to write a colorful reply and get into a more narrative side of role playing. If you are familiar with White Wolf's World of Darkness line, some of their more recent products have had suggestions for alternative forms of role playing, including correspondence play. I haven't done these either, but I'm glad that there are experiments into different styles.

I'm curious as to how you plan on executing this. Is there a block of time that you hope to have vigorous interactions with, and between, the characters? What time zone?

I like what you described in your opening post, including the limitation of character build options. I think Gothic horror is best served with a sense of familiarity which can lead to personal dread. The more outlandish the characters the harder this may be to achieve.

Hello, thanks for the interest. The pace of the game will be slow -- I am certainly not expecting everyone to be online at the same time.

Sometimes, in encounters particularly, there will be a pause where we are waiting for a response from a particular player, but there should be plenty of other times where we have "camp-fire" type conversations that provide roleplaying opportunities. Patience will be a virtue here. I don't want people saying "if this, then x does this, and after this he'll do this, unless this happens, in which case he'll do this and then that." Think of it more like writing a story one paragraph at a time -- the narrative has to flow in a single direction, not keep branching out.

And you can't write ten minutes' worth of actions for your character, even if it's beautifully written, if you're working as part of a team. Of course, backstories and side quests can have this quality, as can internal monologues (or conversations with your familiar is one technique I fondly remember from years ago, though that's higher level than we'll be to start with).

Thanks for the questions -- keep them coming!

Grand Lodge

I'm definitely interested in this, I love anything Lovecraftian. I was in a Carrion Crown group that fell through and would love a second shot at it. I'm especially in love with the idea of a role-playing specific pbp.

If you'd consider me I'd love to spend the time to write up a decent backstory and personality, I'm thinking a Human Alchemist, Miskatonic University style science type.

Actually, I love writing up characters, I'm going to write one up anyway ;)

Thanks for this, Sunderstone -- that's exactly the sort of thing that I'm after. I should like to offer you a place in the team as well. For anybody who is still uncertain what I'm looking for, following this sort of thread should give you a good idea.

Do you have an example of your writing to look at? Give us a feel for how you run the game. That would be interesting to me.

I post frequently and have easy access to a computer at work or home. I post often at all hours of the day when engaged in a campaign.

I write quite a bit. I review others writing as well. I have one novel, several short stories, and a screenplay under my belt. If your interest is cooperative writing within a structured narrative, that would be an interesting exercise.

You can look at my alias Raith for an example of one characterization. He's a local handyman in a small town on his first adventure. Which is why his dialogue isn't overly complex, humorous, or lengthy. I chose to keep his dialogue and descriptives short and to the point because I felt the style fit the character.

I can and do create a style of verbal and physical communication for each character I create. I feel I could add a great deal to the type of campaign you want to run.

Ha. You were the player that created the Magamumi concept. Well, I'll be. That was an interesting character. I had to chuckle reading her background and character write up. I was pulling for her to get in because she was so far outside the box for character creation that she would have made an interesting character to see played.

For Maddigan only:
Hi there, thanks for your interest. One of the reasons I highlighted the slow pace of the campaign was that I noticed you'd been in a Carrion Crown adventure before, but left because you felt it was "moving way too slow". So far as I can tell, there were 50 in-character posts in the first five days alone, and many more discussion posts to add to things, and then you left -- if that is your definition of slow moving, I fear you would find this game positively glacial. Sorry about that.

Yes, indeed, she was one of mine -- I, too, was disappointed she didn't get a chance to play, but heigh ho. C'est la vie. :-)

This is my first post on these boards. I have played D&D since the 70s (and played Call of Cthulu), and love Pathfinder over the current state of WotC roleplaying (that influenced my choice of screennames). I would like a role-playing heavy campaign to start with as I think the power-gamers/MMO types can be disappointed when I am not maxing my damage per round.

I would like to play either (1) a power hungry wizard who feels the need to explore the Cthulu myths is essential to increase his power, or (2) a cleric dedicated to eradicating all Lovecraftian evil.

Let me know when I get issued my Necronomicon.

Greg

DM Scarogoth:
Ah. I see. I'm going to explain why I left in more detail. This may apply to your campaign as well. So if you still think I wouldn't enjoy it, I'll understand. I was trying to be polite because DM Galahad is a nice guy and meant well. But he created two seven player campaigns for the same AP and seemed to accept people because he felt uncomfortable excluding them. I prefer a DM have a more focused idea of what they are trying to do in a campaign and seek to choose players and a class mix that fits what they're trying to do. It is the reason why you do not see me applying to many campaigns unless the DM posting the recruitment thread seems to have a clear idea of what they want to do like Dreaming Warforged, DM Fireclaw, or Solo. You seem to have a very clear idea of what you want in a campaign and given what I've read so far, I would be interested. Suffice it to say it wasn't the pace of the postings, it was the disorganization and lack of focus on creating what I consider an interesting campaign. I would like to try the campaign you plan to run as I do like roleplaying. It is why I play the game.

OK; I found out to make an alias and read some of the content of the ongoing PbP games and although I am intimidated by the story writing of some, I think I can keep up.
I read the players guide and like the idea of a Wizard tempted by the power of summoning extra dimensional monsters. He will be conflicted by his desire to (1) stop evil and (2) grab as much power as possible to further his goals to be a power in the world (Think Raistlin from Dragonlance but with a real desire to be good). I think he may be tempted to try and find the knowledge to be a "good lich".
My reading between the lines says "I may allow some APG" means the idea of a summoner with the scary extra dimensional eidolon is probably a no go given the lack of love for that class by most DMs.
I plan on a wizard that concentrates on summoning or necromancy with massive knowledge in planar and occult lore (assuming you don't want a summoner). He will have minimum strength and begin carrying a light crossbow as his only weapon.

I know power gamers are aghast when anyone proposes a wizard (how can you not want to be a cross-blooded sorceror instead?).

Greg

Thanks to everyone who's expressed interest. Obviously, I can't take everyone, so apologies to anyone who's disappointed. I'd particularly like to say sorry to those who are looking to play their first ever PbP, even though I'd like to support you in that -- they are fun! However, as this will be the first time I've run a Pathfinder game, I don't think too many newbies at the same time would be wise, so try again with characters in the games of more experienced Gamemasters.

Maddigan and Vanulf Wolfson, I should like to offer you first refusal on the team as well. With Count Buggula and Alessa Velorei [Sunderstone], that takes us to four PCs. Perhaps I'm being stupid, but I can't actually see what the recommendation is for the actual number of PCs on this adventure. I think I'd like at least one more to maximize opportunities for inter-character chat, so I'll have another wander through the submissions. Any advice from the other GMs in this group welcome, and that will continue to be the case: I'm familiar with the rules, but have not had that much experience of applying them before: I hope you'll be kind to me if I appear to forget something.

Just a reminder here, I've chosen the players at this point, not the characters, though the submissions I've seen appear to be suggesting an ex-paladin, an inquisitor, and a changeling oracle, so something detective/roguey Maddigan, would be good in there, I suspect.

No problem. I hope you keep me in mind as a backup. I am fascinated with the Kingmaker AP after reading the Players Guide. Hopefully I can convince some group to let me run a druid through that some day.

Greg

Looking forward to this. :) btw, I'll be multiclassing with Ranger until I atone and regain Paladin status. :)

Incidentally, the changeling oracle seems like a fun idea, but it would imply you need to have a copy of the adventure to create such a character -- or has the idea and rules featured in a later Bestiary? (I have none currently, though will probably play the sucker and buy them, even though I have all the Monster Manuals... sigh...)

The number of players an adventure path is geared toward is four. That being said you can get away with five without to much trouble, more than that can require so serious conversion work. I believe the stats for the changeling are in the first module, or in the player's guide, I can't remember which.

Edit: Found it in the first module's beastiary section.

Cool. I'm in Scarogoth. I'm looking forward to a roleplay heavy campaign. As much as I write, I still enjoy as much practice as I can get.

Usual number is four, but in my experience five doesn't throw things off too much. I usually handle five players with only moderate modification of challenges. Should be easier with the focus on roleplay. I'm good about making sure I follow the rules without needing to be corrected by the DM. I DM myself and I know how much easier it is on the DM when the players know the rules well.

Now a character concept.

You can find all the rules including changelings I believe here:

http://www.d20pfsrd.com/

So what we're looking at is:

Paladin
Changeling Oracle of Life (awesome healers-best in the game)
Inquisitor of Milani?

I'm leaning towards a bard or urban ranger. We don't have an arcane caster yet either. I think I saw a few people wanting to play a caster in the thread.

Now that my mind is rolling, I'm thinking I might make something really interesting, perhaps a character like the one in the new Sherlock Holmes played by Roberty Downey Jr. I was rather impressed with the the reimagining of Sherlock Holmes by Guy Ritchie. I think I could come up with a reasonable facsimile of the new Sherlock Holmes with a little multi-classing if GM Scarogoth does not mind. I'll play with the concept tonight.

Any idea of what point number you're looking to have us use for stats? I can do 15, but my personal preference is 20. 20 points seems about right for making an interesting character with reasonable stats without having to have a dump stat. But of course I will accept your preference as GM.

I didn't look on D20pfsrd becuase I didn't think the Changeling was OGC. But here is the link:
Changeling

Grand Lodge

I've been GMing for the last two years, Shadowrun, D&D 3.5 and Pathfinder, been playing pbp Shadowrun on and off for years before that, am currently starting up a Legacy of Fire PbP and taking a break from my real life group to play as a player, so I'm no newbie to this.

I've also written a number of short stories, for my own amusement more then anything else.

I think what you're trying to do here is great, and congratulations to those who've been picked. Even if I don't get picked I think I'm going to lurk amongst the thread just to read what's been put up.

I'm working from home atm, so I'm at my computer from 7:30AM till late ;) I do live in Australia though, so there is a bit of a blank spot where I have to sleep.

If you've got a Paladin, an Orcale, an Inquisitor and a Bard/Urban ranger, an Alchemist for casting could fit, I know he's not a true castor, but if Maddigan is thinking a re-imagined Sherlock, why not a re-imagined Watson to go along?

Ok, I have my Wizard mostly done to be ready as a backup.
Maybe someone else will run this AP too hint hint.

Sczarni

DM Scarogoth, it looks that you would appreciate writing samples as part of your assessment of potential players. Below in the "spoiler" sections are writing samples designed to fit with this adventure path. Thanks, again.

Writing Sample 1:
Journal entry 170. The Kelhi family has been far less than appreciative of the difficulties in procuring accurate data, and the discipline of alchemy in general. At the mention of generous compensation some take a genial, though still apprehensive, tone, while others become violent. However, madame Jacian herself has been practical, seeing the long term benefits her assistance in my experiments will have for her family financially. This morning she had a message delivered to me stating she had "made her peace" and instructed me to be at her domicile during the mid-morning prayers her family would be attending at another location. My servants were able to get her on a stretcher and in a carriage without incident. Once in my care, samples of her alchemical components were taken: blood, phlegm, yellow and black bile. She enjoyed a good meal at my table and we lounged with a digestif by the fireplace. Just moments ago she was placed into her final confines, a weighed glass box with four individually weighed contents. The contents are a ceramic bowl of fly larvae, a ceramic potted Cyprus yearling, a glass bowl of water holy to the Kellid, and a ceramic basin with straw mattress to hold the newly purchased slave, madame Jacian. Sir Gustivas Aluicious Lepidski, PhD.

Writing Sample 2:
Journal entry 171. Tonight madame Jacian, Kellid slave, died while still inside the glass box she was placed in late yestereve. The whole unit, the sealed glass box and all contents, weigh 418.12 kg. As has been previously noted, each item in the glass box, the human specimen, the bowl of fly larvae, the potted Cyprus yearling tree, and the bowl of water holy to the Kellid, is separately weighed. Since noon and six and a half hours post meridian today, the weight of the bowl of fly larvae and the potted Cyprus yearling tree have not changed. The human specimen, slave Jacian, weighed 307.48 kg at noon today, but at six and a half hours post meridian, thirty minutes after her jaw dropped open, diaphragm deeply sunk with coinciding sound of exhale, and waste voided, the body weighted 306.99 kg. The bowl of Kellid holy water weighted 5.6 kg and 6.09 kg at noon and six and a half post meridian, respectively. Initial supposition, ethereal essence of human specimen, or soul, left body during the first phase of elemental disassociation, or decay, and adhered to the the ethereal essence of the water. Sir Gustivas Aluicious Lepidski, PhD.

Writing Sample 3:
Gustivas walks the mist-shrouded streets over the steps of his Alma Mater, the Quarterfaux Archives, to the Unbroken Line winery.
Clerk wrote:
Ah, Professor Lepidski it is that time again, isn't it sir?
Seemingly answering his own question, the elder clerk turns and pulls down two bottles of Shiraz from behind the counter. Seeing Gustivas' quizzical look,
Clerk wrote:
Two, yes. I hear things, you know. Professor Lorrimor has died, your mentor, and by some measure, friend. Half price on the second bottle, my contribution.
Gustivas paid and thanked the venerable clerk, even managed a respectable smile, then wandered. Lost in his thoughts, Gustivas found himself on a canal bridge, but none surprised. Producing two glasses and a cork screw from his jacket he prepared a toast for himself and a guest.
Gustivas wrote:
Geraldina, to your rest. May my recent discovers be the final bits of knowledge needed to let your soul find the peace your body has.

Mist takes an orange hue in the setting sun's light and a salty tear falls in the canal on a journey to the sea.

I thinking I'm going Monk (Master of Many Styles) 4/Bard (Detective) 16. So I'll be mixing it up as I level.

Xavian Graves:
Xavian Graves is the youngest son of Harper Graves, a prominent merchant in the city of Caliphas in Ustalav. His mother is Annalise Graves (Maldolav), the daughter of a prominent fortune teller in Ustalav of the Sczarni people. She is trained in Harrow Deck reading. His father married her for her great beauty and her ability to foresee problems with his mercantile activities.

Xavian’s past is shrouded in mystery, but it is apparent he spent time training under a Tien master of the martial arts at some point and is a skilled hand to hand fighter. He also attended school in Caliphas and is a student of the country’s law as well as a skilled detective with a vast knowledge of many things. It is as yet unknown what drove the young man to a life of adventuring, but the influence of Professor Petros Lorrimor may have had something to do with it. Professor Lorrimor was a favorite professor of the young boy’s and he listened with great interest to the tales of adventure the Professor interwove with his lessons. The Professor was a man that combined academic research with real world experience that lent a validity to his teachings the boy had never experienced.

Young Xavian after completing his schooling begin preparing himself for a life of adventure by learning to fight and utilize the various tools of the adventurer be it skills or magic to give himself the greatest possible means of surviving and success as an adventurer. His intent is to discover as much as possible about the world about him while at the same time participating in whatever events and situations cross his path so he is as much a part of history as a student of it.

One of the words he utters often when he’s made a discovery that cannot be question is “Indubitably”. Such as someone saying “Well damn Graves, you’ve figured it all out.” To which he will reply, “Indubitably.”

Liberty's Edge

I'll try and get my character and backstory finalized by end of today. I'm currently building for 20 pt buy and two traits (one campaign), unless I hear otherwise from you.

That's absolutely right: a 20-point buy and two traits (one from the Players' Guide), which I'm sure you all know is a free download from the Paizo online shop, right?

Been solidly teaching all day today, so not had a chance to think that much just yet on the campaign, but I'm hoping to have some time online later this evening -- for anyone that needs to know or has the remotest interest, I'm in Birmingham, United Kingdom, which tends to mean the "flurries" of posts tend to occur when I'm sleeping, unfortunately -- just so you're warned.

You're 8 hours ahead of me. I work nights. I'm up at hours against the norm in America. So I should be able to keep up pretty well.

Hello Smoke_Jaguar, I fear you did not see my message about wanting experienced PBPers. As I'm a first-time Pathfinder GM, I'm keeping the newbie quotient low, so it is restricted to myself. Apologies for any disappointment.

I'm working with the four characters listed above until further notice, and I regret recruitment for this adventure is now closed. Thanks to everyone for volunteering -- I hope your characters can find other homes soon (or should that be paths?) Live long and prosper, and all that.

My (apparently too subtle!) question about Changelings was to ascertain how many players actually have a copy of the full module, rather than just the players' guide. Not that that overly matters -- I'm sure you're all experienced enough to separate player knowledge from PC knowledge. It's just that I know that I prefer an adventure to be one I don't have, that's all. Perhaps you're all Pathfinder devotees who have everything!

While I do have a copy of every AP since Legacy of Fire as a harddcopy and a PDF rest assured that I have done little more than skim them when they first arrived just to go "Oooh, that looks cool" (With the exception of Kingmaker, which I'm running for my real life group) before putting them on my bookcase shelves.
The only experience I've had with Carrion Crown is the little bit I played in before dropping out of the previous group and, yes, I'm completely capable of keeping player knowledge seperate from character knowledge so no need to worry there.

Liberty's Edge

I have a copy of Carrion Crown, but after reading through it I gave it to one of the other players in my group who I think would do a really great job running it (hasn't happened yet though). That said, I'm pretty good at separating player and character knowledge - for instance I both run and participate in a Kingmaker PbP and haven't had any problems there.

Shadow Lodge

Presenting Shanoa the Inquisitor of Milani. Full statblock will be finished soon.

Shanoa is a young woman with fair skin and long, flowing black hair down her back. She wears a leather breastplate over a long dark dress with a low-cut back which reveals a large decoration of a rose covering her skin, but whether it is birthmark or tattoo is hard to tell.

Background:

Shanoa was born with an unusual birthmark – a single upright rose in the small of her back. In the superstitious region of Ustalov it was simultaneously heralded as a blessing and a curse, but everyone agreed it was an omen. She was the center of attention throughout her early years as everyone expected some great event or miracle, but the doting came with ridicule and ostracism to a girl who wanted nothing but to be just like everyone else. Eventually the novelty faded as Shanoa kept her mark covered and hidden, and after several years of isolation she finally began to make friends with the other local youths in her teenage years.

Desperate as she was to gain acceptance, she often fell victim to the other children’s jokes and pranks, as she did on a moonless night in early autumn. The old abandoned house on the edge of town that every child claimed to have visited was the object of the myriad dares directed at Shanoa, who eventually gave in and started walking alone towards the crumbling building as the other children watched on from the distance. Though her heart raced, and she imagined all manner of horrors in the darkness before her, she kept pacing forward mechanically. After all, hadn’t the other kids all done this and turned out fine?

It seemed to take an eternity to reach the house, but she forced herself to look straight ahead and keep walking even as her entire body shook with anticipation. Finally she placed her hand on the brick wall, turned to look one last time at where her friends were waiting, and stepped inside. All was darkness. She felt along a hallway for a few steps and then tripped on rubble, sending her somersaulting down a stairway into the cellar. She came to a halt as she smacked her head against a hard surface, but even as she was seeing stars she was determined not to cry.

Fumbling around in the darkness for a way back up, she put her hand in something moist and her heart started to beat faster. Panicking, she spun around and found herself face to face with a horrifying, glowing apparition mere inches from her face, floating off the ground and letting out a low, soft chuckle. Letting out a blood-curling scream as it reached out at her, she turned again, fell on the floor, and curled up on her knees, hiding her face in her arms.

The phantom closed in on her, and as it reached a single finger to touch her back, Shanoa’s birthmark started to glow brightly, burning the cloth off her dress as it bathed the malice in holy light. Moments passed in silence, and when the girl finally opened her eyes again and tentatively looked behind her, she was once again alone in the darkness. Finally stumbling out into the night, she was greeted by the horrified looks of the rest of the children who had started running to her aid when they heard the scream.

She could not hide her birthmark from their lanterns, and rumor spread quickly around town once again. Fearing ridicule, Shanoa shut herself in her room until her Mother informed her of a visitor by the name of Professor Lorrimor. He examined the girl’s back, and was shocked to find a pattern of scale-like marks around the spot she had been touched. Fetching a mirror, he showed her what her birthmark had become – it now looked like a rose growing out of a blood-soaked street, which he told her was the symbol of the goddess Milani.

There was no church of Milani that she had heard of, but the Professor promised to learn what he could about them and through frequent correspondence she learned about the hope The Everbloom brings to regions such as Galt and the River Kingdoms, and the role she once played in rebellions within the old Chelaxian Empire. She learned of hope and devotion, but she had also learned another lesson: the superstitions were true. Undead walked the land, and were to be feared – but could also be defeated.

Hi there. Beginning to look through character sheets.

Shanoa: great so far, and interesting back story. Thank you.
Alessa: I believe your Reflex save should be one higher as a result of the trait you've chosen, but otherwise looking good.
Maddigan: very happy for you to write up that concept -- going to be fun, I think!

Haven't gone through Cassandra, yet -- propitious name, er... or something! ;-)

Three girls and one boy, then... interesting.

Stats are complete for your approval.

As you know, I'm familiar with Carrion Crown with my other character. But didn't get much past introductions. I have the Player's Guide and am familiar with where the module takes place and the good Professor Lorrimor. I knew the traits were on the Pathfinder SRD becaue I found them there with the traits from most of the APs. I've also read the descriptions of the AP on the Paizo site. It sounds very interesting. Should be fun.

I hope its not to late to throw in my interest here and id like to bring in a all levels in monk with the Archetypes Sensei and Ki Mystic. I have started putting things together but not finished yet but I should have something up tomorrow. Oh and the race will be human.

Sorry, Jinchi. Recruitment is closed -- the boat has sailed. :-(

My esteemed Players, if we could start posting in Discussion rather than here, the Recruitment will start slipping down the lists and avoid disappointing others.

I've read through the AP and most of the side articles once each as they were released. Memory is already hazy with episodes 1-3 as I've been reading Jade Regent, Slumbering Tsar, etc. I can seperate the player knowledge from character knowledge easily but if you are uncomfortable with that please let me know. :)
I figured if I didn't get to play in a CC, I was going to possibly decide to run it myself after xmas as a pbp here.

Ill check on Alessa's reflex save now.
Late Edit* - You are correct, thanks. I was on the fence about the feat before, so I wasnt sure I would keep the Deft Dodger trait. That's probably why I forgot to ass it. It's fixed in the profile now. :)

Egads! "ass" should be "add". On my keyboard the letters A,S,D are almost completely worn off (those also being movement keys in all my video games). :/
