History- Alessa Velorei is the daughter of a Night Hag named Dacia that lived in a cottage on the outskirts of Hyannis in Versex county, Ustalav. Before she was born, Dacia then just a Changeling, kept a dark secret from the town. She was the daughter of “Black Aggie”, the Night Hag the townsfolk slew nearly 40 years earlier when she was but twelve years old. Dacia had survived on her own ever since as the town didn't know the Hag had a daughter.
Years later, Dacia was foraging in the hills when she came upon a wounded Elven traveler lying on the ground unconscious, and near death. Using the darkest of arts learned from her mother, she took the remainder of his life force killing him in the process. This evil act ultimately resulted in both Alessa’s birth and Dacia’s final transformation into a Night Hag.
Already considered an eccentric recluse, Dacia managed to hide her child and her metamorphosis from the distrustful townsfolk for nearly a decade. Eventually, the townsfolk discovered Dacia's true nature. They feared that “Black Aggie” had returned and stole someone’s child for nefarious purposes. Desperate for help, they enlisted the aid of a passing Cleric of an unknown god hailing from the nearby town of Carrion Hill. The townsfolk with the aid of this Cleric rose up to destroy “Aggie” once again, this time burning her body for good measure. Alessa watched her mother burn that day, at the tender age of nine.
Lying to the townsfolk, The dark cleric said he had recognized the little girl with the “emerald eyes” from Carrion Hill and would return her to her family. Eager to distance themselves from this returning nightmare as well as their dark savior, the townsfolk released Alessa into his custody. The dark cleric brought Alessa to the Crove Asylum and gave her to it’s warden, Waldur Crove, as payment to settle an old debt. She was told that the Asylum was a school and that she would apprentice for Crove.
Crove’s plans for Alessa were much more sinister however, as he had been the founder of a dark cult called the Keepers of the Oldest. He spent years trying to subvert her very nature as an offering to the Old Gods, and became more obsessed with each failure. There was something within her, something that resisted his efforts.
During her time at the Asylum, she befriended an older “student” named Oleg. Oleg was the son of a blacksmith from Barstoi and skilled with weapons. With his aid and years of training in secret, they had eventually managed to escape. Oleg gave her instructions on how to reach the town of Thrushmoor, and remained behind to delay any pursuers. Alessa waited on the outskirts of Thrushmoor for weeks, but Oleg never arrived. Without coin or a home, she's managed to survive by stealing just as much as the occasional kindness of others.
