As it drops another closes with gnashing teeth, but the dwarf dodges.

The last ghoul lurches forward, but stumbles over the remains of its companions and fails to get a claw or tooth anywhere near Barlor.

Moving down the hall it seems that each alcove might have served as an individual chamber for the ghouls. Strange pods, almost like sarcophagi, rest within each. Cracked and damaged by time, they bear the signs of magical enchantments, but whatever magic they held has long since dissipated.
At the far end the hallway opens into a fifteen-by-fifteen-foot chamber constructed entirely of the same smooth-white material seen on the sphere outside. A single white pillar stretches floor-to-ceiling in the center of the room, and in a niche rests a smooth, white, hand-sized square covered in glyphs and runes similar to those on the complex’s front door.

It's kind of weird to be in a party where no one has any ranks in Spellcraft, although with the item creation feats off limits it's probably more common in PFS.

I just don't have enough skill points. That's always been an issue with Fighters and Clerics in d20. Just to be able to do the generic Cleric's job requires 8 Skill Points, (Diplomacy, Heal, Know Arcana, History, Planes, & Religion, Sense Motive, and Spellcraft). That means a Human Cleric still needs a 20 Int, and that doesn't include any special they might have from Domains or practical for their faith. Fighters have it a bit better, but not much, (Acrobatics, Climb, Intimidate, Ride, Swim, and that's not even adding in things like Perception, Craft/Profession, or Know Dung-Engineering), needing Human & 16 Int.

I thought the key was used to get us in here in the first place. I'm assuming this artifact is somehow supposed to turn things around for the settlers, but none of us know how exactly.
The only apparent artifact is the fist-sized cube. It is removable.
