DM Rah |
Yanos, Shel, and László take down one of the remaining charau-ka.
Haris teams up with Barlor, shanking the charau-ka with a viscous flanking attack, though Barlor has trouble hitting the small creature. Then Peri's spell catches it, and it stiffens, then slumps to the ground asleep.
A scream howls from above, followed by a blur of fur and flailing limbs as a charau-ka thumps heavily to the ground right next to Haris, having fallen to its death from high up the cliff.
Suddenly, the sounds of fighting are gone, replaced with cheers rising throughout the camp.
The battle for Azlant Ridge is over. You are victorious.
With the charau-ka and their champion defeated, the remnants of the ape-men flee back into the jungle, giving the excavation site its first relative peace in 10 months. With most of the camp either wounded or sick, Juliette fears she may have to bury the site and take the key with her back to Absalom. She thanks your group profusely for braving the jungle and coming to the rescue and promises to report to her venture captain in Absalom that the success at Azlant Ridge was due in no small part to your efforts.
Juliette gives a grudging thanks to Calgredine and his mercenaries, but quickly informs them they have 1 hour to rest and then vacate her camp before she orders her Pathfinders to flay the skin from their bones. Calgredine grumbles about it, but prepares his men to leave.
Scenario completed! I believe there are a couple faction missions still unfinished, so let's deal with those and wrap this up.
Charau-ka Will Save vs Sleep: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (3) + 2 = 5
Peri Tilki |
Peri invokes Yanos' aide and anyone elses, and asks Juliet (if alive) about how the camp was able to sustain itself and how the food situation was worked. Hopefully with a bonus for just saving the excavtion site.
"Beautiful Juliet, might I inquire how this site has managed to survive all of these months without a direct supply line. Initially I believed you kept the food down in the crypts behind locked key but that turned out to be incorrect."
Diplomacy 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (17) + 5 = 22
Peri Tilki |
Shel Whispertongue PFS |
Shel also approaches Juliet. "I too am looking for someone here, Juliet. Have you seenmElden Klimmer recently? I was wondering how his health is holding up out here in the jungle?"
Barlor |
I'm glad I'm not the only one who noticed that. I just did a charcoal rubbing in the Museum, trying to get a sketch in Nagaji-town, and now this. Apparently I should just always take a rank in Profession: Artist.
DM Rah |
"There is little mystery to how we survived out here." Juliette openly informs Peri. "I dropped the camp to incredibly sparse rations and managed to make the food we had last. When you arrived we were down to 2 weeks’ worth of food left, and we would have soon starved even if the ape-men hadn't attacked."
When Shel asks about Elden Klemmer though, Juliette becomes tight lipped. "I am afraid Elden was one of the first to fall to the sickness."
Shel Sense Motive: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (18) + 5 = 23
Haris Sense Motive: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (1) + 5 = 6
Peri Sense Motive: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (3) + 1 = 4
Shel Whispertongue PFS |
Diplomacy 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (16) + 7 = 23
"Juliet, after the help we have provided, I would hope I could talk you into being completely honest with me. We've both bled here today. Tell me the truth, sister."
DM Rah |
Juliette rubs her face and takes a big breath, then meets Shel's eyes. "You are right, and you deserve the truth. Elden was the first to become infected with the disease soon after the palisade went up and, rather than risk exposure, we had to put him outside the gates. I'm sorry, but he died in the next charau-ka attack."
2/2 faction missions completed for Taldor.
2/2 faction missions completed for Qadira.
0/2 faction missions completed for Grand Lodge.
0/2 faction missions completed for Shadow Lodge.
Barlor |
"Yanos, can you help me look 'round town a bit? And wouldya mind if I asked ya to cast a certain spell I might need?"
Shel Whispertongue PFS |
"Thank you for being honest with me about that Juliet. I understand you had to make difficult choices. I'm not one to judge about something like that."
After making her peace with Juliet, Shel goes in search of Calgredine. "Thank you for assisting us in fighting off those creatures. You are a man of your word. The Pathfinders could use someone with your talents, if you ever want to change sides, you know."
Barlor:
Barlor |
That'd be awesome. Yanos has the highest percep, so I'm thinking he'll main & we can aid another.
If he's good with that.
Shel Whispertongue PFS |
"What are you looking for, Barlor? I'm pretty darn good with spotting things out, you know," Shel asks, as she hears the druid's request for aid. Once she gets the information, she begins her search around the compound, to help her friend.
Aid Another 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (14) + 8 = 22
Aid Another 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (3) + 8 = 11
Aid Another 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (9) + 8 = 17
Aid Another 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (20) + 8 = 28
Barlor |
"Just lookin' round the settlement. Hopin' to get a good picture of things."
Perception (aid another): 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (11) + 6 = 17
Perception (aid another): 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (16) + 6 = 22
Perception (aid another): 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (3) + 6 = 9
Perception (aid another): 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (3) + 6 = 9
Yanos |
I'm fine with that.
Perception: 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (17) + 10 = 27
Looking at Juliet, "It would be most helpful if you would inform us of all the details of your find so we can report the truth.", as he ponders how he might cart the massive demonic beast back to the true Lodge. . .
Yanos |
Oh, sure. I'm curious if you might like me to take 10 though.
Perception: 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (13) + 10 = 23 or Take 10 = 20
Perception: 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (9) + 10 = 19 or Take 10 = 20
Perception: 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (6) + 10 = 16 or Take 10 = 20
so far
1.) = 31
2.) = 25/22
3.) = 21/22
4.) = 18/22
Yanos |
Anyone have a Bag of Holding type XX? looking at the various laborers we just saved, "I don't suppose most of you follow that particular code about life-debts and are willing to carry, . . . something back to HQ for me. . . Yah, didn't think so."
DM Rah |
Not sure if you can take 10. Doesn't matter though, your rolls succeed easily.
Yanos and Shel help Barlor assess the camp, catching many details with his excellent senses.
Preserving one of the corpses will be no problem if Yanos commits to using his magic to do so. Transporting the angazhani is a little more challenging. Hiring some mercenaries or camp workers to carry it to port will cost 150gp.
Yanos |
I can pay about half of it, and if I can rest, I can do the spell. I'm not exactly sure what to do for the other faction mission. I've asked her a few times in character for info on anything else that Juliet hasn't told us, but no real answer. Are you waiting on a check? Or was this something we could discover when I searched the camp?
Yanos |
"I was asked to inquire about, a third dig site. One that has been abandoned. Specifically, what was found that would cause it to be abandon?"
Diplomacy: 1d20 + 0 ⇒ (12) + 0 = 12 (I'd rather it be an Aid Another)
Where is Laz?
Peri Tilki |
I'll ask about it for them
Diplomacy 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (19) + 5 = 24
"Juliet dear, you are way too interesting to be a plain old archaeologist, please tell us about that third dig site, and what would cause you to just let it sit there and atrophy into disrepair?"
László Kovács |
Thanks for all the help on the faction missions; I was out of touch most of yesterday, and haven't had a chance to catch up on the 20+ posts in the Gameplay thread until now.
The Varisian will also cover a chunk of the cost for the porters to carry back the anghazhani corpse.
"Ah, Juliet. We have helped you greatly, yes? Please assist us in this small way."
Diplomacy check: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (6) + 5 = 11
Shel Whispertongue PFS |
"Juliet, please before we have to abandon this place, help us finish our tasks. We have helped you as well, you know. "
Diplomacy 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (18) + 7 = 25
DM Rah |
Letting out a long breath, Juliette relents and admits, “We uncovered a power that my arcanists tell me isn’t of this world.”
Over the next several days, Dias guides the camp through packing and loading the caravan wagons to head for the coast and catch a vessel bound for Absalom. She packs away the key and the monolith control device and has the camp workers bury all signs of their dig, including triggering a rock fall to rebury the door to the Azlanti complex.
Shel's diplomacy was three successes, though why Juliette was tight-lipped about that lame information is unknown. Anyway, assuming you split the costs of paying porters to move the angazhani, that will be two successful missions for everyone. Good teamwork. I'll try to prepare Chronicles tonight or tomorrow.
Shel Whispertongue PFS |
Awesome job everyone! If you plan on running another game, I'd definitely be interested, Rah! Fun game, yet again. Thanks for running this one.
László Kovács |
Definitely. Thanks for running, DM R; I think this puts László up to 2nd level, and I'll have to think about what I want to do with him--particularly as he's currently Shadow Lodge, but not high enough level to play in the SL retirement scenario. Not today, though--it's my first day back at work after almost two weeks away, and it also happens to be my division's safety day. Since I'm the safety coordinator for the division, I won't have a lot of time to spare until tonight.
Barlor |
Barlor's good for another go-round with this bunch. Though if someone is leveling up they should take a rank in Spellcraft apparently.

LOL, exactly!!
DM Rah |
The reviews for this Scenario were a little lackluster, but I really enjoyed it. I hope everyone else did. Special props to Barlor for helping set a nice scene with the Iron Giant. Any comments on this or for the future are welcome.
I'm more than happy to continue on with another Scenario. Does anyone have suggestions?
Also, everyone who has one, give me a Day Job roll please!
Shel Whispertongue PFS |
Any scenario you have that I haven't run is great with Shel, DM! Or, I'd be happy to send you some cash to pick up another few scenarios since you are nice enough to run games for us...
Peri Tilki |
Everyone in my area has already played the Quest for perfection arc so I don't see us scheuduling it anytime soon. I have a level 4 ranger I want to run through it with. I am always willing to play down if nobody minds.
I have GM'd all three parts and both I, and my players loved it. Parts 1 and 2 will translate easily to PbP, part 3 may be a little trickier but definitely achievable.
GM Rah I love your PbP GM style, and I think you could really do this series justice. Added bonus, there is a super cool boon for finishing all three parts with the same character.
