Sigh, again time has slipped away from me. I promise Thursday to update around lunchtime.

On a bright note, my wife's pregnant!

Congrats! Do you have a due date?

@Ross 11/27 is the date, which coincidentally is my mah's birthday.

@Turook Well, my first pregnancy, but 2nd child. I met my wife when she already had a daughter about 12 months old. Now 7 years old.

Very cool! Congrats. It's a wonderful journey.

It really is. It will change you immensely, but it'll be pretty amazing.

WotR - A | Drezen | WotR - B | Righteous Medals

Thanks all. On top of the pregnancy we'll be moving back to our hometown in Ohio for a year, then moving to Chapel Hill a year later so she can finish her Psych NP program at UNC.

My Hero Forge mini for Lucius came today!

WotR - A | Drezen | WotR - B | Righteous Medals

On a sidenote, in my real life Reign of Winter game, one of my players is a summoning specialist wizard...who worships Asmodeus. He recently made a bargain with Asmodeus (well, really one of his mouthpieces) blindly asking for help against some traps and a powerful foe.

The situation could be relevant here if you want to know exactly WTF just happened. But gods and goddesses (especially devil ones) tend to ask for a signature on the dotted line....

MWahahahahahahaha

So I'm traveling right now and thought I would have reliable internet... But I don't. I will update as I can this week.

WotR - A | Drezen | WotR - B | Righteous Medals

Yes, as per the last encounter, we can do a recon phase. You'll choose your party, then the leader, then the leader rolls stealth and perception. Everyone in the party can aid both rolls, but you roll as 1 unit against the opposing army's perception roll.

It's a basic DC of 15 for your perception to scout...every 5 you exceed that by nets you more info.

BTW, Ross, I know it's not your fault and you probably had nothing to do with the decision, but I am upset at Google right now. They decided to make chrome ignore when I set a form to autocomplete="off"...wreaking havoc with the autocomplete feature I coded that pulls from an application's database.

Hey, guys bot Thom toady and through the weekend, as necessary. I'm at a conference with hella-crappy wifi and little extra time.

So, Turook was able to get some idea of what we're facing. DM Pendin, can you put our army's base stats in the campaign thread? That'll make it easier to find.

I think fighting two armies could be tough. Maybe we can just go around them?

HP 92, +13 CMB, CMD 26, +2 Init, +9 Perception, AC 20/13T/17FF (-2 when raging), +10 Fort, +6 Ref, +3/+5 Will Human barbarian 8

Thoughts, guys? We need to make a decision...

HP 47/52 :: AC 23 CMD 20 :: Fort +6 Reflex +4 Will +6 :: Perception -1 Initiative +0

So we have 2 armies, both slower than ours, only one with ranged capabilities. And both are in a canyon. Can we take the high ground above the canyon and just shower pain down on the Dretch army to take it out quickly? Then switch to the Tiefling army ... switching to melee as necessary?

I'd think we could fight offensively and just try to rely on our superior offense and self-healing to kill both before they can take us.

Thoughts?

RPG Superstar 2008 Top 32

Coming over the rim of the canyon also makes it easier to approach undetected (which will be necessary in other to ambush an ambusher.)

That said, there is a lot of marching involved in following the top of the canyon, ambushing them, and then coming back to the valley entrace to actually follow the road to where we are going.

I think 'just go around them' is our best option if it is at all viable. if it isn't (because the rim of the canyon is rocky and difficult to navigate, or merging tributaries mean we can't get where we are going without climbing down into the canyon at some point anyway), then we should go with the 'shoot at them from the rim' plan.

What is our contingency if the tieflings cut-and-run while we're shooting at the dretches? They're mortal, and so fear death more than nearly-mindless dretches, and will know they don't have an answer to arrows raining down from above.

HP 47/52 :: AC 23 CMD 20 :: Fort +6 Reflex +4 Will +6 :: Perception -1 Initiative +0

I'd be fine with bypassing them (if possible), but I don't like the idea of leaving 2 armies at our backs. The enemy has already shown that they can reach across vast distances to communicate (or suck souls), so if we got into some kind of big fight, I'd hate to realize we have Dretches + Tieflings bearing down on our back-sides at the same time.

It might never come up; I just don't like it. As to not letting the tieflings cut and run ... I got nothing.

HP 92, +13 CMB, CMD 26, +2 Init, +9 Perception, AC 20/13T/17FF (-2 when raging), +10 Fort, +6 Ref, +3/+5 Will Human barbarian 8

Not that Nebbin would have an opinion, but his player agrees that leaving one or two armies at our back is NOT a good plan.

RPG Superstar 2008 Top 32

Sounds like we're going with Death from Above.

WotR - A | Drezen | WotR - B | Righteous Medals

Ok, so you're going to try to draw them into a chokepoint in the canyon and rain death down?

If that's the case, then I'd say select whomever will be the decoy team (be it one or some of you or all NPCs) and we'll roll a bluff. The better the bluff vs. their Sense Motive, the more of their armies you'll draw in.

Personally, don't forget that the Paladins have Smite Evil...

I also put your army stats in the campaign tab.

RPG Superstar 2008 Top 32

I think the idea is to proceed along the rim of the canyon (instead of the valley) until we are lined up with the encampment or ambush at the bottom, then pump them full of arrows with relative impunity (since they can't charge up the side of the canyon).

Once they've been pin-cushioned a bit, march back to the canyon entrance and go in to mop up.

WotR - A | Drezen | WotR - B | Righteous Medals

Ok! I'd say then that would be a stealth check by your army opposing a perception check by theirs (likely at a negative).

HP 47/52 :: AC 23 CMD 20 :: Fort +6 Reflex +4 Will +6 :: Perception -1 Initiative +0

I dropped a Stealth check in the gameplay, though I didn't know what modifier to apply ... I figure you could just do whatever's appropriate. :)

Let's get this thing rolling!

HP 92, +13 CMB, CMD 26, +2 Init, +9 Perception, AC 20/13T/17FF (-2 when raging), +10 Fort, +6 Ref, +3/+5 Will Human barbarian 8

I'd think we'd stay with Saoirse unless something in-game changes.

WotR - A | Drezen | WotR - B | Righteous Medals

And apparently you should NEVER change commanders with those rolls.

What can I say... Saoirse is a 16 year old girl with a tragic backstory and a lot of daddy issues, she's got some aggression to take out on the Worldwound. :D

We need to take the time to burn or bury the dead - by the time we march back this way, they'll start to decay, and I don't want to know what can be cooked up out of a bunch of decaying demons and demonspawn on the edge of an Abyssal rift. Lucius is resistant to Poison, not Disease.

If we still have time to march after that, we should. Motteditor and Eben are right - camping here is asking for trouble, either from the unquiet dead, or from the tactical position that let us kill them in the first place.

HP 47/52 :: AC 23 CMD 20 :: Fort +6 Reflex +4 Will +6 :: Perception -1 Initiative +0

Let's burn'em. Less time, and i would think that'd leave less to be a problem if we do in fact pass back through here.

Cohorts & Companions has a mythic path ability to add all the planar binding spells and accessory spells to one's spells known, along with the ability to spend mythic power on those spells.

Don't mind if I doLucius does.

Lucius has his minor 5th-levle stat and skill adjustments.

Need to pick a new 1st level spell, two 2nd level spells, and a feat.

HP 92, +13 CMB, CMD 26, +2 Init, +9 Perception, AC 20/13T/17FF (-2 when raging), +10 Fort, +6 Ref, +3/+5 Will Human barbarian 8

Wow. I don't think Nebbin even got a chance to range since we last leveled.

Will update ASAP.

RPG Superstar 2008 Top 32

Tentative plan is to take detect thoughts and glitterdust as 2nd level spells, disguise self as first level, and Spell Focus (Conjuration) as 5th level feat.

(Simple blindness/deafness is probably more on-theme, but glitterdust works with his new Spell Focus feat, instead of it sitting idle until planar binding and higher level summonings become available. I will flavor Lucius's glitterdust as a burst of embers and brimstone.)

I considered disguise other, since that is what I thought disguise self did when we bought those disguise self scrolls once upon a time, but there weren't really any other first level spells jumping at me. If Lucius does need to throw a disguise over one of the other party members, he can use mythic power.)

Female Human Paladin/Marshal: 5/1 HP: 30/62 AC: 23(26 Smite, 20 No Shield) T: 12(15) FF: 21(24) CMD: 21(F:19) F: +11 R: +8 W: +13 Perception: +6, Immune Disease, Fear (+4 morale 10 ft.)

Saoirse is leveled, gaining Divine Bond (Weapon) and Iron Will for her feat. I will make a post later today.

HP 47/52 :: AC 23 CMD 20 :: Fort +6 Reflex +4 Will +6 :: Perception -1 Initiative +0

Don't have time to post (sickness hath descendedeth uponeth my householdeth), but i got leveled up last night.

HP 45 = 38 + 5 oracle + 2 con
Favored Bonus: learn 1 additional lvl 1 spell
Feat: Divine Protection
Skills: Intimidate 1 rank, Know Religion 2 ranks, Linguistics 1 rank (learned Celestial)
Spells: Instrument of Agony (lvl 2), Sanctuary (lvl 1), Compel Hostility (lvl 1)

For spells, I'm trying to focus on filling out my spells known list via the human alternate favored class bonus option. My goal is to have spells known that either give us new tactical options (Instrument of Agony, Sanctuary, and Compel Hostility) or those Buff spells we absolutely KNOW we'll be using in nearly any tough fight. I was on the fence about Instrument of Agony, but I can't think of a reason we WOULDN'T want that active on one of our heavy-hitters in nearly any tough fight. And Resist Energy is likely to see less use until I can gain access to the Communal version.

If anyone has any thoughts on how to better use my spells known list (with the fact that I have Inspired Spell available), I'm all ears.

Glitterdust seems the most tactically useful and flexible.

RPG Superstar 2008 Top 32

Hideous laughter is also fantastic and Lucius already has Spell Focus for enchantment, but making the bad guy laugh isn't really Lucius's style.

Also, demons and tieflings don't just get a bonus on glitterdust.

HP 47/52 :: AC 23 CMD 20 :: Fort +6 Reflex +4 Will +6 :: Perception -1 Initiative +0

And it's multi-purpose. Blinding = Good. Eliminating Invisibility = Good.

Also, Thom now has +8/+6/+8 as his saves. Should we swap his +2 Cloak of Resist out with someone's +1 to shore up their saves a bit? Nebbin or Lucius look like good candidates, if there's interest.

WotR - A | Drezen | WotR - B | Righteous Medals

Yeah, Jacob, the leveling on this IS pretty quick even with me slowing it down somewhat.

RPG Superstar 2008 Top 32

Did not expect detect thoughts to be so useful so quickly.

Nebbin is even more fun now that Lucius can actually hear his italics.

I was going to say I didn't think detect thoughts would work on Nebbin, but I sometimes I have to remind myself he's not stupid, just ... simple.

My initial post, before I looked back and saw that Nurah was in an explaining mode. Thought it was worth sharing... :)

"What's shadowblood? Shadows don't bleed do they? I guess blood could cast a shadow, though. But then shouldn't it be bloodshadow?"

Nebbin seems, as usual, confused.
