Vallen Silverclasp |

FYI Jenya, if your gun ever breaks (unlikely, and you have other abilities to take care of it) Vallen can spontaneously convert 2nd level or greater spells to spontaneously cast Make Whole. Later on he'll be able to do Greater Make Whole as well.

DM Jesse Heinig |

Basically like Vallen said you need a magic item crafter to alter the item without damaging its magic. Don't worry too much about taking several items, Cass - really it's only because we had the sudden party composition change and a bunch of characters who'd earned goodies are no longer with us.
You can explore by yourself, though it may be touchy if you run into something really dangerous. (There are a couple things that are possible.) But the dicebot would really have to hate you for that, right? :D
I've marked on the overland map the hexes that you need to explore to fulfill the terms of the charter. Note that while you hold the fort at the Tuskwater at hex G9 (marked "Z" on the map), you didn't explore the terrain around it (and since a hex is 12 miles across that's a day of work). If Cassie wants to explore to the east, she could travel east and explore G11 (day 1), travel east again and expore G13 (day 2), then return to the fort (arrive late in day 3).
The creepy undead thing was at the area marked S on the map, so quite a way upriver.
Jhod Kavken has moved to the ruined temple of Erastil at J and is sprucing up that place, so if you want to consult with him, that's where to go.
You should also decide if you want to continue to leave a bunch of people at the fort, or have them come back to Oleg's and decide what to do with the fort after that.

Cassandra Lupin |

I could take Korinne, Vance, and Hatch. Alexei might have the know how to organize a supply route.

Vallen Silverclasp |

Sounds good. Alexei, Jenya, and Vallen can stay behind while Cassandra, Korinne, and crew do the three-day scouting plan above.

Korinne Bryden |
Sounds good to me and Kor will take the amulet then, with much thanks! I'm sure we'll be able to find/make more goodies for our new friends soon enough :)
As far as the rapier and the Stag Helm go, she obviously doesn't need either of those. Personal opinion, the helm should probably go to Cassandra or one of our two gun-users :)

Alexei Orlovsky |

Alexei doesn't know the first thing about opening up a supply route, but (as you may have noticed from his diplomacy check with Akiros) he does know people. I'll have my new bff Akiros recruit the right people and then, with a little guidance from Vallen, we'll get them working.

Cassandra Lupin |

Guns already hit Touch AC and Cassandra is also a follower of Erastil. The rapier, seeing as it is no one's favored weapon, we could sell, though we won't see the profit for a while.

Vallen Silverclasp |

Just as a point of order, guns only target touch AC within the first range increment (20' for our pistols), but I still agree the helm would be better suited for Cassandra.
GM: How do you want to do the next three days? We can go ahead and roll 3 knowledge engineering checks to get these ex highwaymen in shape like Jenya has done, or we can respond day by day while the away party is exploring.
Vallen will also be casting 2 make wholes and a Wood Shape (for the weather damaged palisade) every day to get the fort fixed up.

Cassandra Lupin |

Wood Shape? That's really convenient.
I have added the gear. Can you remove the helm, armor and bow from the swagbag. Also the magic arrows. Are they just +1?
Can you add 1 more set of Studded leather to the list since Cassandra is trading out?
I was thinking of handing over my previous bow to Vance if he can use it. It's got a +2 strength rating and masterwork.

DM Jesse Heinig |

Three +1 beast bane arrows. I've updated the Swag Bag.
I'll run the three days concurrently, it shouldn't be too much trouble.
Vance's age has reduced his strength to the point that he can't use a mighty 2 bow effectively.

Alexei Orlovsky |

Yeah, I had already looked through the NPC list... are the ones in the stag lords fort spoiler the only ones here or have some of the others been transplanted? It also doesn't mention if any of them have any craft of profession skills? I was also hoping to maybe learn if any of them had any kind of aspirations (hopes or goals that could motivate them and/or give ideas about what kinds of tasks they'd enjoy and be good at).
If that's not how the AP works let me know, and I'll just move on.

That's a perfectly valid question. One thing that I've established is that in this particular iteration the bandits are more than just "people you execute," and many of them have had surprising skills. For instance, at first people thought Hatch was just dumb, but they later discovered that really he's more of an autism-spectrum-characteristics guy who lacks social skills but is really good at small, tightly defined tasks, which is why he was tasked with making maps. Vance is a skilled hunter and tracker but he's old, so he's losing his vitality and has to come to terms with needing other people to survive.
For the most part the bandits have skills to do whatever they mention as being part of their former life, whether that's farming, day labor, serving work, etc. Some of them really have no trade skills and that probably influences their adoption of banditry.
Digging more into what they do reveals...
Topper Red doesn't have any real crafting skills, but he has a fairly quick (albeit bawdy) sense of humor. Under other circumstances he might've become a bard.
Sally Hightower worked as a servant in Daggermark and she still has those skills of waiting tables, cleaning, and general upkeep, as well as a good knowledge of various vintages of beer, ale, and wine.
Fat Norry is, as one would expect of the stereotype, a good cook.
Jex the Snitch is a pretty good read of character and good at memorizing messages. Beyond that he doesn't have any sort of job training.
Dirty Jeb Ayles seems to mostly have day laborer/milita-type skills - not much education or job training.
The special cases:
Ralan (slayer 1) is a skilled tracker, ambusher, and fighter. He is a noteworthy hunter of beasts and men.
Akiros (paladin 1/barbarian 2) was trained as a paladin but broke his vows and, in the time that he spent with the bandits, he tapped into his deep rage and self-loathing. He's cleaned up now that he has some kind of hope for a better future, but right now it's fragile, and of course he has lost his supernatural paladin abilities due to his failures.
Now that said, with an eye to the future, you can certainly nurture these characters to grow in different directions. When we get to Leadership level, you can take on these characters as cohorts or followers. For instance, you might decide that you want Sally Hightower as a follower, and she would be a Commoner, but you could move her up to a higher level follower when you get those - maybe she moves up to Commoner 4, or you have her undergo some job training and she becomes a Commoner 1/Expert 3 or something. Similarly, you could decide that you want Ralan as a cohort, and he could gain more Slayer levels. Or you could decide you want to encourage Vance to really improve his skills and convert him from Warrior 1 to actually being a leveled Ranger or Hunter cohort. There's a lot of leeway in upgrading these people if you want to spend the effort on it - the descriptions above are their "stock" capabilities.

To all my games. Going to be on vacation from tomorrow to Sunday. I will have my phone but I hate posting using a touch screen. Phone is new a little sensitive so some words don't come out right.

Send your posts in the mail to Paizo via sled dog, then they can post them on here. Sure it takes a while and your dice may get eaten by a grizzly, but that's how the pioneers used to do play by post.

Cassandra Lupin |

Anyone else not getting updates on the campaign tab? It looked like no one updated all night. Then I click on gameplay and find someone has indeed posted. Hope it's not permanent.

DM Jesse Heinig |

There's a known issue with the boards at the moment. All notifications have been blown away. Last time I checked (last night), Paizo did not have an ETA for a fix.

Vallen Silverclasp |

Yup, just came here to say this! Notifications are whacked.

Cassandra Lupin |

Everyone has attacked right?

DM Jesse Heinig |

Boards were constantly up and down for me earlier today, and I've had a busy afternoon. Trying to update now.

Cassandra Lupin |

Bump. Still here. Hope nothing bad happened IRL.

DM Jesse Heinig |

Had to go out of town suddenly for the weekend. Incidentally, have a new niece.

Alexei Orlovsky |

Congrats to your family on the addition!
I believe I should be completely updated to level 4 now (cavalier 1/bard 3). I put the stat increase in Dex, other than that it was all straight forward (just improving what I already had). If you'd like more details let me know. I also added the +1 longsword to my sheet... that frees up a masterwork longsword I no longer need to carry,if anyone wants it (or has a suggestion of an NPC to give it to)?

DM Jesse Heinig |

Neither Hatch nor Vance typically uses a longsword, though they could if pressed. You might want to save it to give to someone that you recruit later, or you could perhaps give it to Kesten Garess, the sergeant-at-arms at Oleg's, as a show of appreciation for his service.
I know going to level 4 that fast is a little odd, but we were right on the cusp and now the group is gonna finish exploring and move into BOOK 2, so you'll need it!

I'll try to get leveled up and post today- we had two very expensive vacuum pumps simultaneously fail at work today and are we're trying to get them fixed ourselves before calling in the service reps.
Also, I'm an idiot- I could have cast Animate Rope to secure the tatyzlwyrm, and i forgot! The one time my 1st level domain spell would have been useful AND I BLEW IT.
Oh well. I'll have to remember animate rope/grappling hook combo in the future though.

Vallen Silverclasp |

Does anyone else think that the picture of the Tatzylwyrm looks like Trogdor the Burninator?

Cassandra Lupin |

Thank god it did no such burninating.

Vallen Silverclasp |

FYI these are Vallen's default prepared spells. I usually leave a slot open per spell level in case we need something like Ant Haul or a knowledge-boosting spell. I take requests if you have a buff spell or an idea you'd like to try out!
I also learned today that Cat's Grace is NOT on the cleric spell list. Given our party makeup, I find that infuriating.

Korinne Bryden |
Apologies for the delayed posting, my work schedule has been crazy-go-nuts lately!
Your current spell selection looks pretty good to me, Vallen. As far as Cat's Grace goes, is there a lot of interest in having it available? If so, Kor can pick it up next chance she gets to learn a new spell!

Vallen Silverclasp |

Given our party makeup (three ranged attackers and one finnese melee), some Cat's Grace would probably be beneficial, especially for Alexei, Cass, and Jenya.
Of course we could always just get potions, or maybe a wand of Cat's Grace would be more effecient?

Cassandra Lupin |

I thought of repel vermin too. But its too high a level right now. I also misinterpreted some things. I though the spider swarms were near the branches the earth elemental pulled out. Not over by the bushes. I also was not aware we needed a lot. This quest is odd in that it seems like more trouble than its worth. Swarms are incredibly deadly to low level characters.
But we might be over thinking this and being over cautious. We could probably bomb them and wipe out both swarms with all the alchemical stuff we have. I am just not sure that is something Cassandra would do just to get some berries.

Vallen Silverclasp |

Vallen sure isn't going to risk life and limb for some berries, unless he has backup. We're probably being over cautious and a few flasks would kill the swarms, but eh, better safe than dead.
I like the idea of growing our own berry bushes! Or just coming back later when we're in the area and higher level.
