The Dark Rider charges exploding to Relan's set position. The room thrums as the horse's hooves thunder seeming to make the Rider grow larger and larger as he pounds forward with a resounding hammering noise preceded by a biting cold wind.

As the warrior goes for the trip, the astute rider jockies his horse a bit to the side causing the attack to miss and follows with a devastating blow lined with ice.

The Dark Rider Round 1 (cont)

Braelex hurls a flurry of explosive fire smashing the Rider and some of the flame washes over on to his warhorse although the horse seems to be resistant to the worst of the flame. (How much splash damage?)] The Rider catches on fire.

Warhorse Refle Save: 1d20 + 12 ⇒ (4) + 12 = 16

Vuloo casts blessing of fervor on the party as Andel identifies the Rider as an advanced form of a dullahan, an undead terror that steals souls from the living world, trapping in them some sort of eternal hell, normally close to the creature.

Nalar casts a spell placing heroism on Braelex and somewhat counter acting the effects of the Rider's aura.

Home from my travels and just catching up in general on two weeks worth of life.

Taking +2 to hit and to AC from the Blessing of Fervor, Relan attacks the rider twice.

Relan slashes out at the Rider twice, striking him strongly once and just deflecting off his black plate the second time.

The Rider guides his horse with his knees and it shuffles closer pressing in against Relan and pushing him up against the wall. The horse rears up with black energy pulsing through its eyes and teeth. It bites and slams hooves down on the warrior. Relan dodges the hooves, but the bite hits him strong, with evil energy pulsing through him. (Relan is good, correct?)

The Rider then reaches down to his belt and removes a severed head. He tosses it underhand into the secret doorway and it bursts in a pulse of necrotic energy, the energy sucks at everyone's life and simultaneously stitches the holes in the Rider's armor.

Everyone take 10d6 ⇒ (2, 3, 6, 5, 4, 2, 1, 4, 3, 1) = 31 negative energy damage, Reflex Save DC22 for half

Andel uses his naturalist ability to call out the weaknesses of the dullahan to the group (+2 insight bonus to AC and on attack rolls and saving throws against extraordinary, supernatural, and spell-like abilities).

Naturalist Bonus:

Naturalist (Ex): An archivist who has identified a creature with a Knowledge check appropriate to its type can use performance to share strategies for defeating it with allies in combat. The archivist and any allies within 30 feet gain a +1 insight bonus to AC and on attack rolls and saving throws against extraordinary, supernatural, and spell-like abilities used by creatures of that specific kind of monster (e.g., frost giants, not all giants or all humanoids). Well I have mixed emotions. Good to save but that 19 would have been a crit. :/ Was waiting until I know if soomeone was gonna move so I can fight with my trained weapon.Questions - Does pulling the head provoke? Retrieving an item usually does. Does throwing it also provoke?


It's a special ability so not sure. I'd have to investigate. No one threatened him right there though, correct? He was in your face.

Gauntlets threaten. Not too threatening maybe, but will take a punch if allowed. :)Wait, this is complicated. If he is mounted he is in all 4 mount hexes so I can hit him with a pole arm in the far hexes I believe. Right?


Gauntlets threaten if you took your hand off your weapon and no longer threaten at reach. Cant threaten both at the same time.

Creature is adjacent to you so you cant hit him with a reach weapon regardless of how many squares he occupies. You dont target a square with a melee weapon, you target a creature.

Braelex avoids the worst of the necrotic pulse then takes Nalar's dimension door to get out of the way. When the disorientation wears off, she flies up towards the ceiling and hurls another volley of fire bombs.

I'm going to assume Andel takes a step back

Dark Rider recharge: 1d4 + 1 ⇒ (3) + 1 = 4

The party waits for Nalar to teleport them to the other room. Andel begins to regale the party on the Dark Rider's weaknesses and Relan takes a step back, stumbling over the threshold of the secret door and swinging wildly twice before he resets his feet and gets a strong blow through the Rider's defenses.

Braelex unloads a torrent of fire scorching the already burnning armored rider immensely and the horse screeches in irritation, but appears not to take any damage.

Reflex Save: 1d20 + 12 ⇒ (19) + 12 = 31

The Rider guides the horse back in a withdrawal. A single, cold word emanates from the creature and it cuts through the battle.

Relan

Unsettled, the warrior feels the weight of hid mortality settle on him.

Relan make a Fort Save DC24 or be staggered 1d6 ⇒ 1 rounds and for the next 24 hours all critical hits against you automatically confirm and all stabilization rolls automatically fail

At the same time, the door to the west is thrown open by a cold wind and a howling pack of black as night dogs rage through, slipping under the hooves of the Rider's horse, their coats soaking up the little light in the room. (They have full concealment in this fight right now, roll 50% miss chance on all physical attack rolls) You've fought them before in the Lady's Light -- Shadow mastiffs. They surround and savage Nalar sending the wizard to the ground and attempt the same with Braelex who gets bit but stays on her feet. A pair rush Relan. (2 will provoke AoOs against Relan as they charge forward)

Vuloo moves back towards the safety of his previous position and then casts burst of radiance (DC 19 Reflex). on the rider and the nearest mastiff.

Having little choice, Relan focuses his attacks on the prone hound. He takes some comfort in the fact that it is prone and easier to hit. +4 to the already rolled rolls

As the cold wind hits Nalar he turns to see the slavering jaws of the Shadow hounds blitzing towards him with murderous intent. Calling forth a primal shout ans crackle of arcane power he solidifies his will into a protective barrier for the beasts to ram into.

Cast Emergency Force Sphere, immediate action. It creates a 5ft radius forcefield around him so it'll protect Braelex too.

The shield has Hardness 20, 90HP and lasts 9 rounds and can be dismissed as a standard action.

The Dark Rider Round 4

Init: Relan, Dark Rider, Nalar, Braelex, Vuloo, Andel

Nalar throws up the force sphere, preventing the mastiff from getting to him. It snarls and rails ineffectually at the invisible force.

Braelex's still approaches him.

Relan trips the one that would've hit him. The other is in his face and misses. Relan tears into the tripped one and after three vicious blows, it doesn't appear to be getting up.

Braelex rains fire down on the Dark Rider and the flames get to be too much for the legendary dullahan and with a long sigh the flames consume his form entirely, leaving behind his weapons and armor as they clatter to around his horse. Wisps of smoke begin to trail from the horse and it paws at the ground and steps forward as it dissipates into nothingness as well

Does Vuloo wish to retarget his spell?

The mastiffs continue to retaliate. The two mastiffs bark at Nalar for several moments and then one rushes up in the air at Braelex savaging her and the other charges Vuloo knocking the halfling off his feet. Relan's attacks him with a bite and a tail slap striking once.
