Male Elf Cleric 1 (AC: 15, Touch: 11, Flat: 14, HP: 11; Per: +4; Init: +1)

Somewhat sad back-story completed.

Lorlenn: Good stuff ... nice complete family man. Good to see a well-developed century's worth of background.

The wall of history stuff is now posted. There's a ton of info, review it at your leisure. Individual districts of Magnimar aren't spelled out, but we'll work that as we explore and move through the game. I'll be adding a prologue shortly and then as soon as the characters are complete, I'll start the adventure.

Prologue is up, here

Finally figured out how to add my profile to the page. Missing a few items like equipment and background. Playing to talk to Mike and Chris at work and figure the rest out. Sorry about the delay.

You can email me at: cfisher@redlinetek.com

No worries, Chris has most of his character done but missing equip and background as well. Once he updates his profile as well, we can get started.

For everyone: Feel free to add a quick post to the campaign tab in character to give some flavor as to what your character is doing that day.

We'll start the campaign with all of you (and some other pathfinder novices) getting together for a regular weekly dinner at a decent restaurant in town on the Seacliff.

Male Human Trapper 1

Yee-haw -- frogs on a log!

clarence.
aka chris.

Game on!

Reply to the gameplay thread in character only. We'll need to have the rest of the details of CJ's character before the first combat, but we have a bit of time on that.

I'll also do a sample post of what I'd like to see for combat before that moment as well as details on flex time and dungeon crawl mode.

But for now, let's get the game moving along!

Oops, was looking stuff up and writing my "daytime" activities post while you were getting things started.

What's the date at the start of the campaign?

Yeah, I'll get the hang of this format. Sorry about that. :)

I've changed my default alias to be Lorlenn, so that that doesn't happen again in the Gamplay tab. And to answer the OOC question: Jhyrryl is "Anthropomorphized Cricket of Unspecified Gender" according to the avatar selection hover over. Art comes from the following product:

hey guys.

i dunno if the bbcode thing irritates you as much as me. (LOVE the formatting to read, HATE the formatting to type) so, i went ahead and dropped in a quick bbcode editor on my website for some of the longer posts we're going to write. it might be especially handy for you tike, since you've got the long, multi-variant passages to work with.

/shrug

feel free to use it if you find it useful:

Good question, haven't ironed it out. It's some time in spring of the current campaign year (which I'll have to look up).

If we had a Timekeeper volunteer (Steve, Chris, CJ?), they can pick a calendar date (other than year) and start tracking ... :)

Yeah, I hate typing it out ... dice rolling gets to be a serious pain in the ass for multiple mult-attack creatures who also poison etc ... I'll check out the editor and see if it helps. Thx dude.

I'm cool with running both Chronicler and Timekeeper; they're kinda related anyway, and I like spreadsheets. A lot. Probably too much.

okay. so, i totally hate the dice thing. you can see what your value is going to be in the preview window before you even post it. how does that work? can i just skip the dice roll if i get a bad one?

lame.

1d100 + 1d100 ⇒ (50) + (74) = 124

oh... surprise! 124!

chris.

You have to not cheat. Tis all. Commit to your action, roll. Add crits if required.

it's not really about cheating. it takes all the fun and surprise and wonder out of it.

"oh, i'm going to fail. my enthusiasm for finishing this post just hit the floor."

i guess i'm just going to have to avoid using the preview button so i don't ruin it for myself.

chris.

You whine like a mule...

yeah, but you have a 1-in-12 chance of being a ninny.

is dave a ninny: 1d12 ⇒ 1

oh, look. you are!

chris.

That is some funny shiz.

srsly, tho. i was thinking i was just going to check to see how it was made to offer a clue how to open it. i wasn't really doing a traditional "check for traps" thing. tho, i guess reading his speech, that's kinda how it came off. damn. i got all distracted by the weird dice roll thing.

right, then -- lesson one: more explicit descriptions of the rolls.

tike: do i try a disable device then as to how to take it apart? or should i use perception in that i'm looking for details? basically, i want to see if i can determine something beyond the bits of scroll that we have as to how it was made.

i want to roll for something, dammit!

chris.

p.s. other than dave's dweebiness, of course.

oh, and i'll be the timekeeper since noone else wants to. lemme get somewhere that i can dig out a pathfinder calender something or other and find a fun date.

do i get to do the weather too!?

chris.

chris: yes, disable device can be used to determine "how" to take something apart, if you specify before hand, otherwise I'll assume you're trying to take it apart.

You can totally do weather! Player determined weather sounds awesome. Just make it randomly appropriate. Note this may not be as exciting as you wish given the majority of this adventure path is dungeon crawling. :) Not all though, there will be moments of gloriousness.

I promised you guys some samples on combat posting. Below are 2, one from Andel and one from a character of mine, Parity. Andel's shows the simple ones and Parity's shows a complicated post.

man. those are lots of numbers.

where do you want me to post changes in time and temperature? like in their own post? or attached to mine? or in the discussion thread?

chris.

as far as i can tell, the year is 4712.

from this:
http://pathfinder.wikia.com/wiki/Calendar

Quote:
At the start of the Rise of the Runelords campaign, the date is 4707 AR (Absalom Reckoning).[1] The current date is 3 Kuthona, 4712.

since that mirrors real world time, i'll put us in the spring of 4712 AR. Gozran the 12th, 4712 AR to be exact. we had dinner on the 11th. it's currently clear and 49 degrees.

chris.

Post weather/time/date In the Gameplay at the top of your post in a ooc comment whenever it changes or significant time has passed.

Note, tactical map for the current fight will come out once CJs character is complete.

btw, mike was helping cj work on his dude over lunch. oh, and it's cj's birthday today.

woot! happy birthday, cj!

Male Half-elf Druid 3 Monk 2

The bbedit tool is pretty nice. However it's still a pain to post from my phone.

So, I took a quick compare of characters to show you guys where you're at for party "balance." You can still adjust your skills/languages if you wish or you can have me change around Andel's skills/languages if you'd like. The low social skills part of the party may be a pain in tha @$$ for you all.

Andel has the scholar feat with focus in Geography and History. Those 2 skills can be swapped if you desire as well.

Languages other than Common:
Andel: Aklo, Thassilonian
Lorlenn: Celestial, Draconic, Elven, Sylvan
Bralex: Abyssal, Draconic, Elven, Gnome
Fulmen: Druidic, Elven, Undercommon
Clarence: Hallit

Common skills 5 or better:
Knowledges
-Arcana (Lorlenn 7, Braelex 7
-Dungeoneering (Andel 6, Lorlenn 8)
-Engineering (Andel 6)
-Geography (Andel 8, Clarence 5)
-History (Andel 9)
-Local (Andel 6, Lorlenn 7)
-Nature (Andel 6, Clarence 5)
-Nobility (Andel 6)
-Planes
-Religion (Lorlenn 7)
Linguistics (Andel 6)
Bluff
Diplomacy
Intimidate
Sense Motive (Lorlenn 6)
Appraise (Braelex 8)
Disable (Bralex 7)
Heal (Fulmen 8, Clarence 7)
Suvival (Fulmen 12, Clarence 7)

Male Elf Cleric 1 (AC: 15, Touch: 11, Flat: 14, HP: 11; Per: +4; Init: +1)

No Disable skill, Chris? Please take some Disable skill for your Trapfinding. (please?) I'll unload Arcane Knowledge for Diplomacy (at least with my Cleric levels).

Also, Lorlenn doesn't have have Local Knowledge, he's got History, and gets bonuses to that roll when it's the History of Varisia or Magnimar. At least, that's how I read the trait. If I'm correct, then it'd be cool if Andel focused his feat on Local instead of History.

CJ, it couldn't hurt for you to take Intimidate, even if you do have a low Charisma. The +3 class bonus more than makes up for a -1 Cha mod, as long as you keep it trained every level.

i've got disable. it's just not a 5 or higher. right now, it's a 3.

oh, and tike, i must have changed it from the knowledge geography right after you grabbed a snapshot. i had missed it on my first pass of skills. also, don't forget i still need to take some time and de-dupe my equipment.

steve -- the dice tags have that "Attack" in there. that's something you probably want to adjust to represent whatever it is you're rolling. like dice=Damage or something.

chris.

oh, and did i read that right? andel burned a feat on scholar? really? man... who built that guy?

chris.

Quote:

A trapper has the following class features:

Class Skills

A trapper adds Disable Device to her list of class skills in addition to the normal ranger class skills.

Trapfinding

A trapper adds 1/2 her ranger level on Perception skill checks made to locate traps and on Disable Device skill checks (minimum +1). A trapper can use Disable Device to disarm magic traps.

well, s!*&. i totally missed that. wasn't using it as a class skill and didn't have the 1/2 level thing in there either.

tike, i'm going to mark that as a class skill and it'll put it at a 7.

chris.

And tools, you need tools or you take a minus 2.

DM Fflash wrote:

ah. excellent. i would have totally missed that too.

thanks!

chris.

Yup, Andel is a scribe not a PC, so he will take things based on that vs adventuring, which will make keeping him alive entertaining. I'll take Lorlenns suggestion on moving his focuses around.

I still have the overload on Clarence so that adds another significant penalty in my calcs.

Anyone else on skills?

Male Half-elf Druid 3 Monk 2

I'll drop Geography and Heal for Intimidate and Swim

I also updated Fulmen's background.

Steve

Ok i thought Intimidate woudlnt work with the low 9. But sounds like ill be grabbing that and swapping out Ride (unless you think Heal would be better removed).

Current skill set:
Knowledge (dungeoneering) 1
Heal 1
Intimidate 1
Climb 1

The new layout

Scholar for Andel: Local and Planes, new trait: Scholar of the Great Beyond (planes)

Knowledges
-Arcana (Braelex 7)
-Dungeoneering (Lorlenn 8, Relan 5)
-Engineering (Andel 6)
-Geography (Andel 6)
-History (Andel 7, Lorlenn 7)
-Local (Andel 8)
-Nature (Andel 6, Clarence 5)
-Nobility (Andel 6)
-Planes (Andel 9)
-Religion (Lorlenn 7)
Linguistics (Andel 6)
Bluff
Diplomacy (Lorlenn 5)
Intimidate (Relan 3, Fulmen -1)
Sense Motive (Lorlenn 6)
Appraise (Braelex 8)
Disable (Bralex 7, Clarence 7)
Heal (Clarence 7, Relan 1)
Suvival (Fulmen 12, Clarence 7)

I might recommend that Fulmen stick with Heal over Intim and Relan stick with Ride over Heal (since you're trading class skills for non-class skills that someone else already has points in).

Male Half-elf Druid 3 Monk 2

Ok, I'll stick with Heal. I'm not the character you want doing the social skills. And instead of swim I'll take Perception

alrighty. and i got my equipment squared away, tike. i had to but a mule (his name's william, of course) to carry all my extra stuff. damn hunting and tracking and trapping gear and such. on the plus-side, i was able to get my bear trap. yay!

so, my encumbrance is medium now.

chris.

Male Human Fighter - level 2

Alright, keep me with Ride and swap Heal :)

For you and Fulmen, just be sure to remember where the mule is and when you go get it out of the stables etc. Most shops/buildings won't let you bring one in with you.

Male Half-elf Druid 3 Monk 2

I'm assuming since horses were the primary mode of transportation that most businesses had a place to tie up a horse/mule. While in town it will usually stay home unless there's a chance I could be going on a journey, such as when going to the Pathfinder Society.

Also, I swapped out Know Direction with Read Magic since Survival allows me to determine north in most cases.

I've also updated my skills and included all the bonuses for easy reference.

Awesome, Steve. Your assessment of tie ups is correct however I assume you don't leave your mule on the street overnight.

CJ, did you take a favored class bonus? Either +1 HP or skill point per level you take in your favored class, which I assume is fighter for you.

Male Half-elf Druid 3 Monk 2

I have a question about Flurry of Blows as part of a monk's advancement. It says it's like two-weapon fighting, so does that mean the monk will attack with a -4/-6 penalty to primary/secondary attack when using flurry of blows?

Sounds like i have one more HP to add, ill adjust it.

Fulmen wrote:

It gives you the benefits of the Two-Weapon Fighting feat which reduce the -6/-10 standard penalty to -4/-4 ... since your fists are considered light, it's -2/-2 with unarmed attacks.

Also ... read this for clarification on the 3,000 rules threads about monks. LINK

Tike, Lorlenn's back story has him owning the home that he inherited from his parents, and which he subsequently raised a family in. I'd assume that it's paid off and only needs the equivalent of property taxes and maintenance costs for upkeep. It's large - 7 people were living in it at one point, but old, having been built over 120 years ago.

Lorlenn was torn on whether to keep it or donate it to the church, but now he's starting to think it might be a good base of operations for a party that includes several people from out of town, even if it's a bit dated and run-down. How much would it cost to keep a place that we could all use (if everyone was inclined) in an older part of town?
