That moment when you realize that you never actually bought a silver dagger for this character.

Surprise Rounds:
"If some but not all of the combatants are aware of their opponents, a surprise round happens before regular rounds begin. In initiative order (highest to lowest), combatants who started the battle aware of their opponents each take a standard or move action during the surprise round. You can also take free actions during the surprise round. If no one or everyone is surprised, no surprise round occurs."
Judgments are a swift action and so you cannot both judge and attack in the surprise round.

Just out of curiosity, the scales effect is instantaneous, so I'm assuming it's like holding a touch spell until I use it. Or does the arrow simply remain charged? If it remains charged can I effectively prepare all 3 in the morning and use them as needed or can only 1 be active at a time?

Ce-Eshna Lightfoot |

The duration is instantaneous, kinda mentioned that in the post :P
It's from a book from before the official release of the pathfinder ruleset so I just want to be sure what I can do with it (cast and fire in the same round, as per the free attack that comes with casting a touch spell) or if it simply transforms the arrow and any attack must be made later.

Hi Taco.
I'm Emily, from sunny north Texas. This is my second PbP, but my first "real" PbP- the other was strictly for first-time players.
I've only played tabletops for a little while (couple of years on and off) and I really enjoy them :)

Xaivan Slingblade |

My name is Rick and I live in Houston. I'm in a bunch of PbP's now, probably too many. I've only been doing Pathfinder for less than a year now but I've played RPGs in my past.

Tesseract Squires |

@taco: Nope. You're Taco now and forever.
@Rick: woo Texas! Something something state pride something something. I enjoy PbPs too much myself; I keep making new characters "just in case" :p

Xaivan Slingblade |

I've only been here two years and my wife hates it. :)
I spent most of my life in Florida.

Tesseract Squires |

Move north, Mr. Rick. Houston's too muggy. And dirty and stuff.
Woo Canada! Do you like hockey, Matt? I'm not trying to stereotype; it's just that I'm the only one of my friends who gives any craps about it and my little brother was always a big Jets fan :p

Xaivan Slingblade |

Go Lightning!
IIRC the Jets went to Phoenix some years back, but then Atlanta moved to Winnipeg and brought back the name. Yeah, Atlanta was never a great place for hockey.

No professional sports here, however we have pretty great college football teams. It was a shame neither Alabama or Auburn won their bowl games this year :(.

Hey, for the record, Tess is trying to pass herself off as a wizard because she's seen witch burnings in Kenabres.
Here's a relevant passage from the WotR Player's Handbook:
"Between the wardstone and the fortifications, Kenabres has been a relatively secure stronghold against the demons—but it has been less secure from corrupting forces within the walls. Starting with misplaced zeal in the First Crusade, there has been a tradition of witch hunting in Kenabres. The “witches” that have been burned at the stake in the intervening years were mostly just people who were different in faith or just physical appearance. Operating ostensibly under the aegis of the church of Iomedae, the witch hunters have often been a law unto themselves, taking whatever measures they deem necessary to keep Kenabres free of demonic corruption and possession. The prevalence of the witch hunters has waned somewhat in the years since the Fourth Crusade, but they remain at the ready to respond to any demonic threats that may arise—whether real or imagined."
So, I don't know if any of your characters know the difference between a wizard and a witch. Maybe you can make Knowledge (Arcana) or Spellcraft checks to know, but I think your character would have to suspect something or really want to know details about her casting methods to make that check.

Jokum of the Breakbones |

Hi all, I'm Nick! Originally from upstate New York. Glad to be playing with y'all. :)
As a side note, Tess, I hope it's ok that Jokum is paying so much attention to you. A lot of his approach to a group is driven by the thought that he needs to protect people, and as the youngest member of the group I think Tess has sort of naturally become a focus for that (she's also impressive in her competence). As long as you don't mind, that will likely continue; I like it, and I could totally see a sort of Warder-Aes Sedai (if you've ever read the "Wheel if Time" series) dynamic develop.

Tesseract Squires |

Oh, I haven't noticed "too much" attention or anything. I'm always up for good character interaction, so fire away :p

You know... I was ready for Pollux to engage someone in fisticuffs when the AP first started. Lots of "devil worshipper" accusations thrown around in a derogatory way before people got to know him, which is understandable, but its still nice to see we're getting along pretty well. I think a large part of that is owed to how focused we've been on moving.

Karthak Ironbreaker |

The list thus far:
torn bedroll(-)
three candle stubs(-)
bent fishhook(-)
10 feet of badly frayed hemp rope(-)
copper brooch depicting a bat (Xavian)
masterwork backpack (Pollux)
10 days of trail rations (2 each)
flint and steel(-)
set of caltrops (Ce-Eshna)
two flasks of oil(-)
bundle of 12 arrows (4 each Ce-Eshna, Xavian and Jokum)
2 potions of cure light wounds (Tesseract)
potion of lesser restoration (Tesseract)
Master Work War-hammer (Karthak)

Tesseract Squires |

I don't want to keep everyone around if we're all ready to move on; the Riftwarden thing is really important to Tess and she hasn't had a chance to inquire yet. All the same, I don't want to slow anyone down, so we can keep going right after this. I'll be on all day tomorrow to speed it up- I've got the flu :(

Jokum of the Breakbones |

No worries on my end either. Though if this will be happening frequently, a thought: elsewhere on the boards I've seen groups set up separate "flex time" role playing threads for this kind of situation. Never played with one before, but is that something people might want? That way we get free role playing while the story moves forward.
Not particularly advocating for one; just something I've seen done elsewhere!

![]() |

Also Jokum, I'm basing the assumption off of the fact that everyone except maybe Xaivan and you has more or less given Pollux a hint that they're from Kenebras, though I (read: he) could be mistaken.

Tesseract Squires |

I'm cool with flex time. I was trying to figure out how to suggest something like that last night but my brain feels like a zombie has been snacking.

Xaivan Slingblade |

Yes, Xaivan has not really been the talkative type as of yet so you wouldn't have a feel for him quite yet. While I do have a background set up for him I'm still trying to get a good feel for exactly how I want to play him out so its good that I'm been able to stay in the background for now.

Tesseract Squires |

Oh! Karthak, I don't know if you saw, but we had an empty potion vial left over from using a potion on you. Do you want to use it to grab some of the holy water from the basin? I mentioned it in one of my in-character posts; it's okay if you didn't notice

Karthak Ironbreaker |

Yep, thanks for mentioning that. I was forgetting about it. I vial of holy water might come in on handy against undeads I guess.
