Carrius's eyes widen as he tries to process everything Liam tells him. "Oh, my... I think... It might take me a little bit to get caught up on everything. I still have... Vaddrigan and his cronies gave me a lot of drugs, and... I'm sorry, maybe some tea will help clear my mind?"

The young man is ready to accompany you when you are finished here.

You can find a scroll of legend lore in Yanmass for the standard price. (I believe that's 1,450 gp, including the cost of the material component and focus.)

"We did not search the top level for any additional cultists. Should we just try to slip out and get back to the Temple of Abadar?"

I still want to search at least the golem room. I think we could probably ignore the other rooms if others want to, but don't feel it's as important.

Given that we have the prince with us, I don't think we should linger too long. Since we have a (relatively) safe way to access the golem room, I'm cool with doing that then leaving.

Also, would folks be interested in pooling our gold to buy a scroll of legend lore? I realize all signs point to the prince being the real deal, but if he's some sort of deep cover assassin, we don't want him getting anywhere near Eutropia.

"Okay, let us don the robes of the cultists and search the room where we trapped the golem. And let us bring Vaddrigan with us when we leave. We will need his disgrace made public, with Huldrigga testifying about the drugs. We need to discredit him and the cult.
That raises a difficult question of what we publicly say about the Prince. I suppose it is accurate to say that the young man's identity is unknown, but whoever he is, Vaddrigan committed a crime by keeping him imprisoned and drugged.
Cassaranda, can the Lion Blades assist us in spreading information to discredit the cult? We would welcome any other assistance or advice you can provide. I think we might need their assistance in secretly conveying Prince Carrius to his sister. High Strategos Pythareus will want the Prince, and I suspect Panivar as well. I wish I knew if those two were working together."

Happy to contribute to a scroll. Who is tracking loot? I think we are way behind and need to figure out what we have and what we can sell.

Female human occultist 18 HP 168, AC 29, Touch 18, FF 22, F20/R14/W15*, CMD 29

I'm fine to split a scroll. Doesn't look like we've got treasure updated much at all for this book.

"Perhaps we should wait and not say anything yet? Just let the people know the cult was a hoax and ... then wait and see what makes the most sense?"

I forget (and don't have time right now to go look though can this weekend), how did we tell the Duchess wasn't really human? Could we be seeing the same thing here?

Katria, I think we might have read it in one of Panivar's journals? I think that may have been it. There was also the possibility of noticing it via close examination, so maybe we should also take 20 on Perception to study the prince before going much further.

Sorry for the delay, the world has been obviously very busy.

Amelia weighs the situation, "We need to avoid any and all questions as long as possible, but ultimately it will not matter. The testimonies of all those here will make the idea of Carrius being alive all that more believable." The gears were turning in her head, this was her expertise, "Worse yet, the rumours will come out and they will draw the attention to our unknown patron who may very well be watching us."

Her face softened, "What we do now will reverberate and will set us on a course where there is no return." She put her hand out and held a knife, "I am in all the way and I should put down the blood to prove it." Standing straight she laid the cards out, "Whatever happens I am not some fairweather agent."

I will also pitch toward a scroll.

Female human occultist 18 HP 168, AC 29, Touch 18, FF 22, F20/R14/W15*, CMD 29

Katria blinks.

"You don't need to make a blood sacrifice to prove yourself, Amelia" she notes. "I know there are certain rituals and even spells where that can improve the efficacy and act as a geas, but ... we're not doing that. I wouldn't even know how without some research."

The world being busy is an understatement. :|

"I'm the only Lion Blade agent in the city, but luckily, the cult is still in its infancy. I'm certain that with your actions here today, there won't be need to worry about its influence any more," Cassaranda says. "I'll be sure to report to my superiors in Oppara about everything that's happened here."

Dressed as cultists, the golem ignores you as you search the room you had trapped it in. This cramped, unlit room is lined with shelves and filled with lumber, jars of paint, rolled tapestries, and other materials for constructing sets and props. These materials are old and useless—the wood is rotted, the paint is dried out, and the rolled tapestries are moth-eaten. There is nothing of value here.

You escort the defeated cultists and Prince Carrius to the temple of Abadar, where Enumerator Abrun is grateful that you were able to stop the sinister cult's plans. He encourages you to keep the magical crossbow he loaned you. He also promises to see that the cult leaders face justice for their crimes, as well as offering to send genuine representatives of the Church of Abadar to minister to the lay members of the cult and address their spiritual needs.

Female human occultist 18 HP 168, AC 29, Touch 18, FF 22, F20/R14/W15*, CMD 29

"Maybe you should stay here if the enumerator is OK with it, Prince Carrius, at least until we can get a message to your sister," Katria suggests.

"We have more to do in the city, but maybe then we can escort you to her?"

It's probably still not much later than noon, since we started in the morning. I think we should try to park Carrius here for a few days if we can.

M Half-Elf Cleric 18 | HP 165/165 | AC 45 T 19 FF 40 | F+27 R+20 W+27 | Init +16 | Perception +32 | Performance 35/41 Channel 4/6 | Wand CLW 21/50 | Active: Vestment, GMW, Reversion, Contingency, Eaglesoul, Life Bubble, Invoke Deity, Untold Wonder, Frightful, Good Hope

This format at least can keep going... nice to have PbP as an option.

"Thank you, Cassaranda. And I think Katria's idea is good."

Liam turns to his companions. "Where to now?"
Looking back at Katria's list:
Baron Kustios - check
Rhundle Navin - check
Terrible dreams - check
Caradinna Farkin gone missing - ?
Taldan Horse Cavalry - Orvestikar Manor
Bandit attacks - Talgrasses
Cult of the Twilight Child - check
Savories restaurant - ?
Somebody lurking in Hedge Hill park - ?
Maybe check the city items of the restaurant and the park and then head to Tallgrasses?

Female human occultist 18 HP 168, AC 29, Touch 18, FF 22, F20/R14/W15*, CMD 29

I like the idea of dealing with the city issues before heading out. I think we could go check out Caradinna's place too (assuming we can locate it), see if we can find what may have happened to her.

She puts her facade back up, "Blood isn't necessary but it is for my own personal peace of mind. I'm ready to go." She puts the knife away and explores the room with the golem before heading back to the enumerator with the others.

"I think that we cannot escort the prince out just yet. Here, in this temple, he should be the most protected he can be. We seem to draw danger into us and I doubt that we are the best for him right now."

Looking at the list Amelia nods in agreement, "I don't think going out of the city is good. At least should something happen in this temple we will be close enough to handle it." She idly cleans her nails off, "Let us look for this missing woman first. If there is someone lurking in a park I doubt they will be prowling during the day anyway."

So at least four of us are willing to split the cost of a Legend Lore scroll. Split four ways, that's 362.5 gold per person. Should we see about buying and using it before we do much else? Might want to hold off on contacting Eutropia till we verify it's actually him.

Perhaps Maya is a bit paranoid, but she begins to wonder if Cassaranda might have an ulterior motive for her involvement in all this. Does she stand to gain anything from the chaos? Or could she be secretly working for someone else?

Sense Motive: 1d20 + 23 ⇒ (13) + 23 = 36 Seeing if Cassaranda was being completely truthful with her last statement, or if she has other plans for what she's learned.

I'm good with handling things in the city, at least till we get the prince squared away.

Female human occultist 18 HP 168, AC 29, Touch 18, FF 22, F20/R14/W15*, CMD 29

I'm fine with getting the legend lore next, maybe on our way to find out about Caradinna. I also am very suspicious -- how did what appeared to be mostly a scam get the real prince? That's part of why I wanted him stashed in the temple for now.

M Half-Elf Cleric 18 | HP 165/165 | AC 45 T 19 FF 40 | F+27 R+20 W+27 | Init +16 | Perception +32 | Performance 35/41 Channel 4/6 | Wand CLW 21/50 | Active: Vestment, GMW, Reversion, Contingency, Eaglesoul, Life Bubble, Invoke Deity, Untold Wonder, Frightful, Good Hope

Liam's guess is that Duke Panivar restored the Prince to life, and started small with some inherently trusted messengers - aasimars - to spread the word. With an eye to building support and eventually getting a puppet-Prince on the throne. Panivar's book in the temple complex lends support to the idea that he is working with the Cult. So Liam has little doubt that this is in fact the Prince.
Is anybody willing to take on the task of tracking loot? Happy to chip in for Legend Lore, but we need to figure out how much we have.

I'm also willing to chip in for the scroll. With some luck, I might be able to do a loot update, but with the virus going around and being forced to leave my college campus, who knows when I'll have time for it.

Scroll seems doable. I can start managing the loot if you want. I don't know how accurate it will be for Book 3 currently. Truthfully I don't want to go back all the way and read the last 20 or so pages.

So with everyone contributing to the scroll, that's 290 gp per person.

DM, I think that's what we want to do next after getting the prince and Pol back to the Enumerator - buy the scroll and see if it's actually the prince. We can swing by Caradinna's in between as well.

Maya does not sense any deception from Cassaranda. The Lion Blade appears to be a woman of her word.

You head into the city's markets, managing to track down a scroll of legend lore. On the way back, you decide to take a detour into Backhill.

Backhill is a sleepy middle-class residential district east of Hedge Hill but within the city walls. You follow Lady Aumber's directions to Caradinna Farkin's house. This tall but narrow house towers over a weedy yard. The house's shutters are all closed, but a thin trail of smoke issues from its crooked chimney. Thin sheets of metal are nailed to the front door along with a sign reading, "Absolutely NO solicitors or psychic manipulators!"

Looks like this is still the same day. I've used up a good amount of my spell resources, but think I'm still OK to go on. I'd originally pictured Katria as not a spellcaster in combat, so since I still have wands and weapons, I can go on.

Katria looks over the sign, wondering what exactly Caradinna was expecting.

"There's smoke, so maybe she's just hiding?" she suggests.

I'm playing Strange Aeons, which has quite a bit. That was the 'Occult Adventures AP' I think, whereas this is the 'Ultimate Intrigue AP', but even by the time of this AP, OA was still fairly new with a lot of unexplored material.

Maya's pretty sure there will be signs of foul play in the house.

Through her mind's eye, Katria sees that Caradinna Farkin’s house is in disarray, with maps, notes, and frantic ravings covering most surfaces. The walls are lined with sheets of lead, and dozens of dreamcatchers hang from the ceiling. A half-orc woman combs through the copious amount of documents.

The half-orc yelps in surprise as you barge into the house. "Ah! I am Inga. I'm...watching Carradina's house while she's away. Who are you?" she counters Katria's question with a question of her own. At Amelia's insistence, she does not move, but she seems to be studying the ranger intently.

Of course, she could be part of these veiled masters' effort to cover up their alleged presence, and just a good actress.

"No!" Katria cries, trying to wrap the woman's mind in a binding pattern.

Binding pattern:

Binding Pattern (Sp): As a standard action, you can expend 1 point of mental focus to create a binding pattern of psychic energy that causes a living creature to become paralyzed. The target must be within 30 feet of you, and it can attempt a Will saving throw to negate the effect. If it fails the save, it is paralyzed for 1 round for every 2 occultist levels you possess. At the end of each of its turns, it can attempt another Will save to end the paralyzed effect and instead be staggered for the remaining duration. This is a mind-affecting compulsion effect. You must be at least 7th level to select this focus power.

Got it! Posting now...

EDIT: Actually, are you going to use your invisibility now or save it for later? Sneak ahead to scout or all go down together?

Female human occultist 18 HP 168, AC 29, Touch 18, FF 22, F20/R14/W15*, CMD 29

I think we wanted to save invisibility for our escape; Doritan probably is scouting ahead a bit -- though likely only 30 feet or so/around any corners ahead of us.

Yep, what Katria said. Maya can cast Vanish on Doritan once or twice if there's a particularly sketchy area he's scouting, but otherwise she's saving spells for the escape.

Mathematically speaking, it doesn't make sense for anyone but Maya to lead on a Diplomacy roll. But that doesn't mean someone else can't lead on the conversation, so please don't feel like you have to defer to me. Maya can always just add a few words of support afterwards.

Female human occultist 18 HP 168, AC 29, Touch 18, FF 22, F20/R14/W15*, CMD 29

So, loot list is now updated. I'm not sure what exactly was doled out, though it didn't look like much of it had been. I marked what I could tell was doled out in red (and marked it under folks' names with a number for who claimed how many). Does everyone want to go through and let me know what you want to claim, and then I can figure out how much we can sell the rest for (I stopped putting down the value for everything, since I figured some of that would be claimed instead of sold)? There's certainly enough to pay for a legend lore scroll. (I'm also assuming we took the heavy things that were listed in a couple spots since I think we have the Strength to manage that with Amelia.)

--

Also, a reminder that Liam has scofflaw hunter in his possession, though has to return it.

--

I'm not sure we want to sell this book, which would reduce the loot in that line by 150 gp.

--

Finally, it doesn't look like we looted our blinded alchemist friend or her room, though I think we would have done that. I also think it's worth going back and exploring the rest of the theater before we leave town in case there are any more clues there (even if the rest of the cult flees, they may miss some stuff). Now that Carrius and Cassaranda are safe, I think we can afford to spend the time to do that.

The enumerator let you keep scofflaw hunter as a reward.

@Amelia - sorry to hear that. It's hard to conceive of what this is going to be like. (But, Bran is up in Red Hand of Doom whenever you can post.)

@Katria - thanks for doing that!

Liam is not in favor of selling Diverting the River of Souls. We should hang on to it for clues about what Panivar might be up to. Or maybe give it to Princess Eutropia so she knows what is going on.

Nor is he in favor of selling the Scour drug.

Liam has the Standard of Conquest. He does not need much in the way of the other gear, though could take the Lesser Talisman of Freedom if nobody else wants it.

With the various potions of healing, Liam could look to craft Sipping Jackets for the party, or at least those who do not have a different need for the chest slot. Just a thought.

Amelia, as Katria and Liam said, I'm sorry. I don't think anyone would complain if you need some time to process.

Katria, thanks again for taking care of the loot. I don't want to even speculate how much time that took you. Much appreciated!

As for the list itself, Maya will take one of the potions of CMW, but there's not really anything else she needs or that's an upgrade, so she'll just take whatever her share of the gold is once we've sold stuff (and bought the legend lore scroll).

Female human occultist 18 HP 168, AC 29, Touch 18, FF 22, F20/R14/W15*, CMD 29

Sipping jackets could make sense, Liam. The potions have to be used day-of, but they could be helpful for when we know we're preparing for a big combat.

Female human occultist 18 HP 168, AC 29, Touch 18, FF 22, F20/R14/W15*, CMD 29

OK, had a little time/energy, so decided to go through the list again and divvy things up as I suspect we want.

Things we're keeping:
Scour (4 doses), belt of physical perfection +2 this is a great item someone should be using; I suggest Doritan as he's our melee combatant with the worst belt (Amelia and Liam both have belts that boost two stats, while Maya and I have one stat boosted), standard of conquest Liam, rings of protection +2 (x5) all of us should already have this on our sheets, potion of CMW (x9), tanglefoot bag (x2), potion of invisibility x2, potion of barkskin +2 x2, potion of bulls strength x2, potion of CSW x3, headband of inspired wisdom +2 x2 Maya and Doritan don't have anything in that slot, I don't think, so there's no reason for them not to take these for now, potions of CLW x4, 2 oils of magic weapon, 2 antitoxins, 4 holy water, potion of bear's endurance, wand of magic missiles Katria, mithral chain shirt +1 Katria, lesser talisman of freedom

Things we're selling: Assuming normal sale prices of half value, we would get 31,431 gp for all of this.
Statuette, medallions, memorabilia, suits of +1 studded leather x2, +1 rapier x2, mwk light crossbow x4, cloak of resistance +1 x6, thieves tools, sickle, bracers of armor +2 x2, ring of protection +1 x4, 2 potion of mage armor, mwk heavy pick x2, mwk shuriken, bracers of armor +1 x2, hand crossbow, mwk mace, ring of protection +2, gold candlesticks, holy symbol of Abadar, bedroom loot, headband of alluring charisma +2 Maya already has this benefit; Doritan could take this instead of Wisdom, but I think the other is the wiser choice (no pun intended), belt of giant strength +2 x2

Adding in the coins (978 gp + 242 gp) gives us 32,651 gp total.
Subtracting 1,650 for a scroll of legend lore (plus the 1 gp tip we gave to a beggar so everything evens out more easily) leaves us with 31,000 gp.

Note: I'm assuming we probably didn't take the silks and furs (120 lbs. worth) -- Yes, Amelia could probably carry this, but without a bag of holding (which I don't think we have), I just don't see us having carted this around. It's 800 gp, so if you want to argue with me, I'm OK with that, but I don't see it.

Do we have any other communal purchases we want to make? Do we need any wands of CLW? (I feel like we have enough potions to keep us safe for a while but ...) Let's figure that out and then we can divvy up everything.

More questions: Do we want a five-way split, or to have a party share? I typically like party share, but honestly, I think we can probably just do without it this time at least. We've been good about chipping in as we need. Also, I know some groups like to total up all the treasure and then "charge" each character for claimed items. Personally, I'm not a fan of that system, as I think we tend to claim things that make the most sense for each character and use them to help each other, but I know some people disagree. Things can get out of whack WBL-wise without doing that, but I figure we're all working for the same goal and a frontline fighter is going to need more gear to keep them safe and effective.

Once we've figured this out, I may divvy out potions, but please feel free to call out for ones you want.

That looks great to me. Thanks for doing it!

Liam will be happy to craft for folks if we get some downtime again.

Maybe we should use some of the gold to make a communal purchase of a Bag of Holding before divvying up the rest? Not imperative.

I like that idea, and almost suggested it. Someone want to second?

Also, any thoughts on going back to the theater and checking out the rest of it now that Carrius is safe? Probably should have done that before Carridina's, but maybe we can go right afterward.

We could do that. GM, do you have a preference?

Trying to think of what Liam will buy or craft with his share...
Upping the headband to +4 Wis is sort of expected but not all that interesting. He doesn't rely a lot on high DC spells so can maybe hold off on that in favor of something more unusual.
His cloak slot is free due to his domain power.
So maybe a Cloak of the Hedge Wizard. Divination is nice for a True Strike combat maneuver once a day.
Phantom Entourage is amusing.
It looks like Poet's Cloak would work for Liam. Interesting. Berserker rage really isn't his thing, though.
Cloak of the Diplomat looks good.

I'm in a similar position, trying to figure out what makes the most sense for Katria. If I'm primarily using wands in combat, obviously I need to keep those stocked up, but I have a good number of them right now. Trying to figure out some more fun/utility type things.

I do like your idea of sipping jacket as a potential life-saving HP boost if needed.

I'm fairly certain Doritan already had taken the Physical Perfection. I know I had already taken the Alluring Charisma (unless there was another).

I also took 1 of the Invisibility, Bull's and Barkskin potions.

If I were to make a greedy suggestion though, if the Physical Perfection is not accounted for I would prefer it. I utilize all 3 stats evenly and I also don't have an effective +4 weapon that Doritan does have.

I also already carry a CLW Wand for us, but you can always get another to expedite time healing as we count buffs often.

Poet's Cloak is interesting because you can get something very cool like the Lesser Spirit Totem power (or Lesser Celestial Totem), allowing spirits to float about us to help you in combat or amplify all healing.

@Amelia, if you and Doritan were to trade belts (your Str/Dex for his Str/Dex/Con), the difference would be that you get the +2 Con instead of him. You do already have, compared to him, better AC, better non-AC defenses, a better Fort save, and more HP. It seems like he needs the Con more.

Con is, assuming we are clever and proactive, a stat where you can probably get by with a 14. (Or take Ability Mastery to get it to 16.) Making your belt +2/+2/+2 would make it cost quite a bit more to upgrade to +4/+4/+4. So I might suggest leaving your belt at 2 stats. Get your +4 Str/Dex sooner that way.

I like the idea of Sipping Jackets for in-combat healing for characters that do not have competing swift actions. That 2d8+3 for a CMW potion isn't going to make up for all the damage taken in a round, but it can make the difference at the margins between "I can take 1 more round of attacks" vs "I can take 2 more rounds of attacks." It can also be used for other potions like Displacement.

Right, as far as I can tell it was just your suggestion of last night that Doritan get the +2/+2/+2 belt. He had not already taken it.

He is a bit of a glass cannon so I think the Con bonus might be good for him. But if he would rather hyper-focus on Dex then sticking to his Dex belt would allow for faster upgrades.

Fair.

I had not considered future costs actually. That is a very valid point.

That's... a lot of messages from just this weekend.

Anyway, I do appreciate getting the belt of physical perfection, as I do use all three stats fairly equally (Dex to hit, Str for damage, Con not to die- always tricky for a d8, low fort save frontliner), so I will definitely be able to use it.

I also grabbed a Headband of Wisdom, as I definitely need the Will bonus more than an extra +1 to intimidate.

But yes. I think that's all that requires immediate attention?

Also, my linked sheet should be working now, at least to view. Let me know if there are still problems (considering the number of buffs thrown around this party, having the math done for me is really important).

Thanks again for all your work, Katria!

I like the idea of a 5-way split, if that's easiest for you to calculate. Doesn't seem like we need to be particularly picky.

Also, unfortunately, I believe Maya's Subtle Mask takes up her head slot, though I would be happy to take the headband otherwise.

DM, assuming the Mask takes up Maya's headslot, is there a way should could upgrade her Cha bonus on it? Or does she just have to wait for it be awakened more?

I'll have to think about potential upgrades. We've each got a fair bit to work with at this point, especially if Liam's able to craft stuff for us.
