While I try and think of what to post IC, anyone got some thoughts about this character for Exalted I've been throwing together? Haven't looked for a group yet (mainly because I'll be flying down to Melbourne on the weekend and that's the only free time I have) but just tried to get a feel for character creation.
Also; dear god does this game give you choice paralysis when it comes to picking Charms.
Here's Princess Cao Lai of the small kingdom of Three Rivers. Her backstory is linked on the Bio tab. A Dawn Caste Solar swordswoman, but one I tried to make use a few different subsystems that I can learn over time - so the combat system mostly to put that Melee score to use, some Presence stuff to do some social influence and try to rally aid for reclaiming her homeland, and then some dots in War for when the actual reclamation gets going and she's leading the Three Rivers' Resistance into battle.

Already done - grabbed two purchases of Ox-Body Technique for that. Probably gonna eventually up her Stamina to 5 to upgrade them and get even more health levels.
Thinking about combos like Dipping Swallow+Excellent Strike?
Yeah, got those in mind. Thankfully you don't have to pre-make your combos in 3e like you did in 2e.
Already got some ideas for late-game combos and Charms to work towards - things like Iron Whirlwind Attack+Immortal Blade Triumphant+Peony Blossom Attack and some others.
Main thing I'm not certain on is her Intimacies - there's obviously going to be others added when I find a game to use her in, but is there anything that you think I might be overlooking on that front?
Does she have a connection to something from a past life?

One thing I was going to discuss with the Storyteller after finding a game was the possibility that Three Rivers was founded by a Solar shortly before the Usurpation (which would give the option of her Exaltation having once belonged to that Solar founder). Or if another player in the group was a Lunar (their book just finished its run on Kickstarter and backers all got the manuscript with all their rules and fluff), they could be Lai's Lunar Mate.
From the roof of the keep, you can target people in the courtyard with medium range or better spells, but they are too far away for close range spells.

In the span of the duel, may I use a move action to Flex into Intimidating Prowess? Martial Flexibility lasts a full minute so I think it would apply for at least one action.
Are his soldiers involved as well? It sounds like they are - so that gives us two different targets or are we always debating Pythareus?
Also how exactly are we doing this? From top of tower to bottom? Has he come up or has Sara climbed down the outside of the tower?
I'm picturing Sara on the steps, as in my first post she says she starts descending, I assume she remained there. If the soldiers are a second target, that changes a lot of things in re future actions.
Truth be told, I was hoping we could get him alone and then I would try and grapple him and we would hold him hostage, ransom him vs the whole garrison.
If that's the case then great, but I'm not sure how we got through the rest of the keep! :)

There are technically two audiences--the soldiers and Pythareus. However, for the sake of expediency, if you win the duel against Pythareus, the soldiers will stand down.

Correct, you're both at -2 on all of your checks for the remainder of the debate. The penalty cumulatively increases by 2 for each exchange you win.

Zileska that was so sweet! I teared up, it makes me feel very seen and appreciated as a writer and as a fellow player. I love playing in this game. It's some of the best roleplay I've ever had in my life. Thank y'all for a continually amazing game.

Shadow Evocation 100%. It's way more versatile than people give it credit for. Fun guide for it
