Kaska of Red Talons |

Since it looks like Kaska will be the animal handler, she's all for whichever will be easiest to deal with. It isn't a strength of hers.

Viv Voltine |

One heavy horse it is! That's 200 gp. 10 days of feed = 5 sp. Bit & bridle = 2 gp. Pack saddle = 5 gp. Blanket (for the horse) = 1 sp.
Then we can easily carry 70 lbs. of food for us (35 gp).
Total cost = 242 gp 6 sp. I'll throw down for the horse if the party will kick in the rest of the scratch.

Holg Redhawk |

Ugh, trying to choose my first spell known for 2nd level. Glitterdust is the bloodline so I'm torn between options. Leaning toward Scorching Ray or Aggressive Thundercloud.
The sphere spells, like aggressive thundercloud are better fit on low level when you still do not have that many spells. I would wait to level 7 for scorching ray, when that second ray really makes a real difference.
Ok, I will take those 242 gp from the party pot for the horse. Go go go!!!

Fireday |

FINALLY done with that stuff at the hotel. It was pretty crazy with Mark Wahlberg and his family there (they were opening the new Wahlburgers restaurant in the Mall of America).
So...is there any CON-boosting gear I can purchase at this time? Is there any other stuff you folks'd recommend I buy?

Fireday |

I'm going to sell the buckler and any other unnecessary gear for sure, but I should probably invest in some heavier armor first. How heavy should I go? I don't need my Dexterity mod as much since I'm not using a finesse weapon, but I imagine I shouldn't just buy a suit of full plate that would negate it entirely!

Viv Voltine |

Well, with a +2 Dex mod... this is a little weird, but hear me out.
Right now you should probably just get chainmail. It's AC +6, max Dex +2. It's cheap (150 gp). It reduces your speed to 20', but with your war mind ability you can always kick back up to 30' if you need to.
The reason I suggest this is it's "throwaway armor." To get what you really want, like a mithral agile breastplate or mithral full plate, is going to cost you a lot, lot, lot more. So you don't want to spend a ton of money on armor, you just want something that can tide you over until you can save up for the armor that will be best (or until we find some awesome tech armor that you can use, like some kind of powered armor! Raar!)
If you ditch the buckler and get chainmail, your speed will drop to 20 but your AC will go up to 18 (6 from armor, 2 from Dex). Then if you can get a ring or amulet you can go up to 19. (If you don't have either of them yet, get the ring - it's a deflection bonus so it works against touch attacks).
EDIT: In the long run what will make your choice is gonna be whether you want a speed of 30, or a better AC. High speed = mithral agile breastplate. Higher AC = mithral full plate. If you plan on raising your Dex to 18 or more, the mithral full plate starts giving diminishing returns because its Max Dex bonus is only +3.

Holg Redhawk |

Note there is a +1 chain shirt and ring of deflection +1 in the party equipment list you can immediately dispose.
Is anyone interested in the inferno pistol and the timeworn gun? If not we can cash them and probably reach the 4000 gp shares with a few more sells.

Viv Voltine |

Fireday should just swipe the +1 ring of protection from the treasure list. One point of AC and he doesn't have to pay full price for it!
With that ring, Fireday could be:
Chainmail: +6
Dex: +2
Ring: +1
AC 19. Getting better! Then save up for the +2 belt of mighty constitution (4k).

Kaska of Red Talons |

If nobody's particularly interested in the +1 Chain Shirt, then what about this? Kaska is currently using the MWK Chainmail but the movement reduction probably hurts her more since she's a good melee closer and will probably be front and center most of the time.
If she trades the chainmail to Fireday and he takes the +1 Ring, he gets an extra +1 to AC and a smaller penalty to ACP than if he buys chainmail.
The +1 Chain Shirt only reduces Kaska's AC by -1 and she has +1 DEX over Fireday anyway. Since she's not spending on anything else now, she could pick up a cheap +1 item and be exactly where she started and with 30' movement.
She'd likely get a DEX belt eventually anyway so she could just look into enchanting the same chain mail shirt up to +2 or whatever later, and stick with light armor long term unless some really nifty tech something or other came along.
EDIT: Actually Kaska and Fireday have the same DEX bonus but same difference. She'll be trying to raise her DEX later.

Coen Deval |

I don't need any of the loot.
Aggressive Thundercloud then. It was mostly a goal of having additional offensive options and not basically just being the second ranged attacker. But I was worried about giving accidental concealment to things with it. I still like it for the rounds per level part.

Fireday |

How much money do I actually have to spend on this stuff? I'm taking Viv's advice, ditching the bucker, getting chainmail, and then take that ring we got. How much will I have left after that?

Kaska of Red Talons |

Yeah, Kaska's chainmail is free, and better than you could buy anyway since it's masterwork. You actually make a little money.

Holg Redhawk |

Ok, after selling all the unclaimed items and spending 1042.6 golds on party equipment and trip preparations we get each of us five 4016.3 golds. Please, make sure you scribe it into your profile in a visible place, so I can check and make sure you have taken the coins.

Please record it into your profiles in a visible way, and mark it with a [p] of party equipment or similar, so I can track it and make sure everything was properly taken and no equipment is lost.

Fireday |

Should I assume that someone (most likely Khonnir) installed the skillslot into Fireday's head? Otherwise I'm just carrying it around.
And with that amount of money, I can definitely afford the belt of mighty constitution. Can I buy that in Torch or will I have to wait until we find a larger urban center?

Fireday |

Then I will buy it! Thank you all for the advice and clarification. This is the first time I've had this much money and spent it on my own character!

Fireday |

You know, despite being a priest of a war goddess, Kaska's a much better tactician than Fireday is. Should I embrace that and roleplay Fireday as being more interested in honorable duels and struggling to deal with the finer points of strategy?

Kaska of Red Talons |

@Fireday: Oh, I don't know that it's about tactics so much as Kaska has a lot more wiggle room in planning than Fireday. She's CG, and really more Cg, which means she'll absolutely go with sneaky, underhanded, or dirty plans if they meet her goal. Fireday has honor, valor, and all that crazy, useless stuff to consider as well. :)
It is kind of amusing that the 17 year-old is running this though. Kaska's not much past being a kid.

Fireday |

Any chance I can retcon that to before the attack started? I was literally typing it when you posted the initiative order. *embarrassed grin*

DM Brainiac |

My wife and I are expecting the birth of our second daughter any time between now and her due date of July 13th. When that occurs, I will likely be incommunicado for a few days. I will also be taking a month off from work, and since I usually do most of my posting from there, my posts will be sporadic and infrequent during that time. Things should get back to normal when I return to work though.

Holg Redhawk |

That's just fine Briniac. Congrats on the second birth!!!

Fireday |

Congratulations! :D
Please let me know if my math is off. I know bull's strength effectively gives me +2, but that doesn't automatically jump my second attack by 2 since it's half my bonus.

Fireday |

Oh snap! I've deleted my previous post, so I'll heal him now! Sorry!
EDIT: Well that felt like throwing a thimble of water on a house-fire.

Fireday |

Okay, tactics question: Birdfood has demonstrated that he can easily take us down with that bow of his. I'm already at about half-health from just one attack from him. Should I try to cast another cure light wounds on Holg to get him back in the fight, since he has more healy spells than I do, or try to get in Birdfood's face with my melee weapon so the use of his bow is hampered?
