DM Brainiac |

Welcome to the game! I look forward to a fun campaign.
Take some time to introduce yourselves and figure out how your characters know each other. The adventure assumes you have already met, even if just recently, and decided to join together to investigate Torch's troubles. I will be posting some more basic starting information soon.
Some notes:
I will roll passive Perception checks for your characters when the situation calls for them. To speed things along in combat, I will roll initiative for everybody. Those whose initiative scores are higher than the enemies can post their actions, I'll summarize the results and the monster's actions, then everybody can post for the following round's actions.
I am usually online weekdays between 4:00 AM and noon, and can check in sporadically the rest of the afternoon. I will try to post at least once a day during the weekend, but my access is limited on the weekends.

Viv Voltine |

Hello! Is this where I crack wise? No, wait, that's the Gameplay thread!
I - Viv - have been in Torch for about four weeks. I've probably met any long-time residents. I'm sarcastic but sweet and happy to hang out with anyone who's not a jerk, whether Kellid or elf or android or what!

Gylwinth of the Crimson Moon |
Hi Everyone!
Thanks GM for the vote of confidence!
This should be an interesting group. A mix of tradition and technology!
Gylwinth is at heart both a warrior and a caretaker. He has been in Torch but a few days, and it's mostly been a dizzying and frustrating experience. He is looking for answers, trying to understand the new world of Numeria, and would have hooked up with people likely to decipher the world for him.
GM, may I suggest you open the Gameplay thread? That way, we can post somthat it appears on our Campaign tab. Btw, if you post then delete the post, the campaign remains on your Campaign tab.

DM Brainiac |

Okay, gameplay thread is open. Here are a few things that your characters are aware of:
Extinguished Torch: The violet flame that has burned atop Black Hill for over a century has gone out, leaving a strangely seeping pit of rubble and bubbling fluids where the town’s livelihood once glowed day and night.
Missing Councilor: Ever since Councilor Khonnir Baine, one of Torch’s more powerful the town council has been eager to find out what happened to Khonnir and have offered a reward for his rescue. Interested parties are invited to speak to the council at Town Hall.
Black Hill Caves: Khonnir Baine discovered the signs of unusual traffic on the banks of Weeping Pond, and shortly thereafter, the submerged tunnel that provides access to several heretofore unknown tunnels under Black Hill. His emergence from the caves with a deactivated semi-humanoid automaton sparked worries that something strange might be going on in the caverns, but when he failed to return from his second expedition a few days ago, those worries turned to outright fear. Several other adventuring parties have gone missing in the caves, and Torch finds itself running short on new volunteers.
The Foundry: Khonnir's adopted daughter, Val, has closed down her father's tavern, the Foundry, for the time being. She's announced that any group going into the caves to look for her father can use the tavern, free of charge, as a headquarters and a place to rest between forays.
You have the option of either starting at Town Hall, the Foundry, or directly at the entrance to the caves, depending on how much information gathering you want to do beforehand.

DM Brainiac |

Each of you has learned a little about the situation in Torch already in the form of rumors.
By the way, our fifth player (my friend) will be creating his character and joining us soon. He was waiting to see which characters I would choose before making his own.

Gylwinth of the Crimson Moon |
Ok, regarding roles and such (I guess we should wait for the fifth player to join us), I would like to mention that, if needed, Gylwinth could take on the role of healer. I would change my spirit to Life instead of Battle.
For now, I see Gylwinth as secondary melee and able to have quite some flexibility with casting, as I have access to some nice battlefield control, as well as most healing spells.
Fireday is a warpriest. I'm not sure how much healing they can do. Perhaps between the two of us, we'll be fine without a change in spirit?

Kaska of Red Talons |

I'm playing a warpriest in another campaign. Still low level but my experience is they're good front-liners, just as effective as full BAB classes with their buffs. But they need those buffs to do it. So there's a tension between combat and and healing. They can do it but it costs them not to have those spells for melee. Warpriests also have fewer spells and, of course, are limited to 6th level casting. They can use wands, etc. as well. That's what my warpriest relies on for healing.
Kaska's role will be pretty straighforward. Ranged combat if it's out of reach. Melee if it isn't. I'm curious to see how the Galvanic Saboteur archetype plays. It's an odd one and pretty much only useful in this AP (if it's useful in this AP :p)

Kaska of Red Talons |

Oh, and by reputation it seems Iron Gods is pretty punishing. I'm not saying you should change spirits Gylwinth, we can figure something out I'm sure.

Fireday |

Good afternoon everyone (holy CRAP I slept too long!)!
Like Gylwinth, Fireday's a new arrival to Torch, and is looking for information.
Odds are he would have at least introduced himself to Viv, as he's always eager to meet other androids.
And as far as roles go, I am angling to be a melee frontliner. Like Kaska said, I'll be more than able to heal between my own powers and wands, since everyone uses wands. Between Gylwinth and myself we should be fine. Do we have anybody to cover roguish pursuits, though?
What brought Kaska to Torch, out of curiosity?

Kaska of Red Talons |

Kaska came to Torch as a refugee I guess you could say. She's lived there most of her life.
If you don't look too closely at the particulars Kaska can sort of cover rogue stuff. She does have Disable Device in class, and the standard ranger skills. So we should have the basics covered there.
Looks like Kaska will also be the group's sort of technologist. She has K Engineering and her Local Ties trait lets her use the Technologist feat. She'll be talking the feat later on as well, then the trait will give her a bonus.

Coen Deval |

I am much recovered and am in the middle of formatting my character properly for the forum here after the first draft was eaten in its' entirety. (Despite me knowing better, I decided to edit in the browser.)
I have, as promised, a mostly useless low level Sorcerer to help fill in the small arcane magic gap. For the moment the base stats are here and a link for a dropbox pdf of the character is on my profile.
Coen has eyes far too big for his stomach at this point and is in town due to a not-yet terminal case of adventure seeking. I was going for the Numerian Archaeologist trait, and the Starsoul background so we possibly have some sort of awful Last Starfighter/Starlord thing going on here.
Coen has been scavenging while looking at the ruins, selling various metals and working day labor to make ends meet as he looks for a way underground to see if the Torch is connected to a larger ruin (as per the trait). He has been in the city of Torch for almost a year and is not quite new enough to be clueless but not quite new enough for people to not look at him with some derision.
Stats/Combat wise- Low level casters are very limited. Some ranged spell combat, mage armor and comprehend languages give him some utility. The Starsoul Bloodline gives a mix of buffs and evocation but for my spell choices I will end up with a lot of movement options, evocation, and utility combat spells (resilient sphere, glitterdust, etc..) If we end up with any obvious holes I will seek to help cover, but the movement options should enable us to simplify a lot of typical adventure problems if I do it right.

Coen Deval |

Same to all of you. I've been playing D&D/Pathfinder for a long time, (10 years with DM Brainiac alone,) but this is my first online game using this forum so please bear with me as I continue to make mistakes.

Fireday |

How do you all like Fireday's "no contractions when he speaks" thing? I thought it'd be a great touch to play up his artificial nature and differentiate his personality from Viv's a bit. :)

Coen Deval |

I think it works as a character choice, it definitely sets a different tone from Viv, though I don't think I was going to confuse the two characters in my head with the other differences.

Kaska of Red Talons |

Yeah, I don't figure we'll confuse the androids and more than we'll confuse the Kellids. But it does work. For some reason if seems to me a more Iomedaean than android thing.

DM Brainiac |

Fireday, you can still attack this round. When you avert your eyes, you have a 50% chance to avoid having to save against the gaze attack, but you have a 20% miss chance on your attacks. If you close your eyes, you avoid the gaze completely, but are effectively blinded and have a 50% miss chance on attacks.

Kaska of Red Talons |

Thanks! There are special weapons for Shoanti, but nothing for Kellids. The falx seemed like a good fit for a Kellid weapon, so I asked to reskin a nodachi as one. Very similar, just sharpened on opposite edges. (the less sickle-like falxes at least.)
Oh, and if anyone is wondering what we're talk about, this is the type of thing she's using.

Kaska of Red Talons |

Hm! I didn't know that. I looked it up and Paizo has something else in mind with the rhomphaia, not what I'm looking for really.
"This weapon is an early polearm consisting of a long, single-edged blade attached to a sturdy staff, sometimes slightly curved. It serves as both a cutting and a thrusting weapon."
It's a reach / brace / fragile weapon.
