Kaska of Red Talons |
I'd forgotten about the limited weapons proficiencies of clerics when Kaska brought up Holg using the chainsaw, but that's also a small part of the reason Kaska isn't interested.
I have to assume it's an exotic weapon at least, so Kaska won't have proficiency. She's also already invested in Weapon Focus: Falx so that would be another reduction to attack bonuses. I'm sure the thing does crazy damage, but if you're not hitting with it as consistently I don't see much of an advantage.
Mostly though it's just not Kaska's style. After this over she's going to talk to the Brigh cleric about transforming her flax to masterwork at least, maybe an enchantment if it's possible.
Holg Redhawk |
Ah! Holg is also invested on Weapon Focus (greatsword). I adhere to your thoughts!
Also, although I gave Holg a resolved and impatient personality, that is more a mean to help pushing the game forward as a player. In fact I see him more like a fervored follower of Gorum than a brute.
As about the masterwork transformation, feel free to ask the Brigh cleric to do it, I am fine with that and it probably has sense story-wise, but know that Holg can also cast masterwork transormation! What better than a blessing from the god of War! :D
Fireday |
It just seems a shame to abandon such an iconic weapon. I'd take it myself, but I'm geared more towards another cool tech weapon.
Holg Redhawk |
Ouch! That's terrible :O
I fear we will end up having real troubles once the robots are gone. We have to think about a way to hold Kaska in one room while Viv in a different one. Last thing we want is for them to lock on attacking each other.
Fireday |
I didn't even need to read the spoiler. I just took one look at that description and went...
Holg Redhawk |
Mmmm... maybe you are right and Hellion is one spirit from the spaceship crash we found during this adventure. It would make sense, there were many undeads and spirits there. He might have escaped and turned everyone crazy telling them that he is a god.
Holg Redhawk |
Remove curse is a level 3 spell, I guess that is what would be needed to lift his curse. Holg can do it, but he will need to ask for that spell tomorrow after resting. Fireday is a warpriest, thus, he can do it too once we hit level 7, but that will also mean waiting.
Fireday |
I think I'm gonna start doing that prepared thing you're doing, Holg. It'll be a helpful reference in the thick of combat once the spells start flying.
Kaska of Red Talons |
@Fireday: Especially since I can't roll for crap. Piles of static bonuses are the only way Kaska can do anything.
Kaska of Red Talons |
Sorry! It's been a crazy busy few days. I even had to take work home with me in the evening, which I never do.
Yeah, I looks like I didn't update my character sheet at all after the last level up. I guess I just completely spaced it.
Viv Voltine |
I'll be camping this weekend, should be able to catch up again on Sunday or Monday. Bot as needed!
Note that I am down to two shards, then I'm out of ammo for my kinetic blasts.
Holg Redhawk |
That robot beast is brutal. Mythic levels you say? :O
I notice Hellion failed with a high misschance roll. I usually roll misschance % to be low a failure. Do you prefer us to better use high % roll as a failure for this campaign instead DM Brainiac?
Holg Redhawk |
Fair enough ;)
Fireday, in order to attack more than once in a round you always have to take the full attack action which requires expending both your standard action and your move action. That means you cannot move when attacking more than once. You can only take a 5-foot step. Regretfully for us here double weapons are not an exception :(
Fireday |
Huh. I thought Hellion was bigger than that and I was standing next to him already. Okay. Can we retcon it or something? It's too late for me to edit it. :(
Fireday |
WOO HOO! WE DID IT! This is the first time I've ever completed the second book of an AP, and I was definitely not expecting it to be Iron Gods!
Holg Redhawk |
Yes, we did it! :)
And it has been a quite good one. I really enjoyed this module. The Mad Max theme and the foreshadowing of Hellion has been great. Plus the final enemy is brutal. We were lucky of having so much help. Even with Viv successfully using the inhibitor, Zagmaander's help and we arriving to the final battle with all our buffs up, we had a hard time, and out of Kaska's critical, we had many lucky rolls and still ended up considerably damaged.
Like seriously, I can see most groups see some character dying to Hellion there.
The story about this strange AI and all the falling of the vessel and Unity we are starting to discover is very appealing and original.
I am definitely looking for more on this and with this group :D
Thanks all and specially Brainiac for making this a pleasing and memorable campaign!
Coen Deval |
As a person who has played with Brainiac on the regular for a decade now, I can say that he is consistently great no matter the quality of the module.
The fractured AI is a nice development, as is the addition of a mythic level enemy. (Even if my experience with the PC side of those rules left me with the impression that they're a mess.) I'm happily following along on this John Carter of Mars type trail to see where it ends.
Holg Redhawk |
Ok, so once we head back to Torch, we will like to sell some stuff and resupply before heading back into new adventures.
We have not been updating the loot sheet very carefully, I have noted the following stuff/monsters to loot later while we were advancing, none of them are at the loot sheet, and some of them we did not get a list of what were they having:
Gunshy: http://paizo.com/campaigns/DMBrainiacsIronGods/gameplay&page=30#1494
Smilers: http://paizo.com/campaigns/DMBrainiacsIronGods/gameplay&page=31#1514
Fallen ship captain: http://paizo.com/campaigns/DMBrainiacsIronGods/gameplay&page=35#1707
https://paizo.com/campaigns/DMBrainiacsIronGods/gameplay&page=35#1750
https://paizo.com/campaigns/DMBrainiacsIronGods/gameplay&page=36#1762 -> numerian fluids
https://paizo.com/campaigns/DMBrainiacsIronGods/gameplay&page=36#1791
https://paizo.com/campaigns/DMBrainiacsIronGods/gameplay&page=39#1911
https://paizo.com/campaigns/DMBrainiacsIronGods/gameplay&page=40#1988 -> to Holg
https://paizo.com/campaigns/DMBrainiacsIronGods/gameplay&page=40#1991 -> Orcish book to read
https://paizo.com/campaigns/DMBrainiacsIronGods/gameplay&page=42#2094 -> Kulgara and Draigs equipment
https://paizo.com/campaigns/DMBrainiacsIronGods/gameplay&page=43#2103 -> Kulgara journal and other stuff
For me it is a pain to keep track of all that and check whom is picking what. I do not know if you have any ideas of how to better deal with this, but we certainly can not ignore it as the encounters difficulty take into account we equip ourselves each level.
Any ideas on how to track items or keep up the party properly geared?
Holg Redhawk |
Great! Thanks much Brainiac! I will try to update the loot sheet today so we can plan to sell things at Torch along the week.
Holg Redhawk |
Ok, I think I have it. Please give a look at the treasure sheet and write down what you are picking.
It seems we are coming back to Torch as true scavengers after all :)
Fireday |
+1 BAB
Class Features: Sacred Armor +1
HP: +6
Skills: +1 Heal, Knowledge (Religion), Perception, Sense Motive
Background Skills: +1 Craft (Mechanical), Knowledge (Engineering)
Feat: Craft Technological Arms and Armor

Now all we need is to find a military lab and a lot of gold and I can finally make my smart armor!
Viv Voltine |
Kineticist 7
+1 BAB
+7 hit points
New class feature: Expanded element (aether)
Composite blast: Force blast - if I run out of ammo I can now use pure force
Bonus wild talent: Greater self telekinesis - Viv can (sorta) fly now!
Skills: +1 each of: Acrobatics, Heal, Knowledge (dungeoneering), Perception, Stealth, Use Magic Device; Knowledge (engineering), Knowledge (geography)
Feat: Heck if I know. Probably an extra infusion or something.
Fireday |
Might I suggest Improved Initiative or perhaps Weapon Focus? Basic, yes, but going first is always nice, and every little bit of pluses to attacks helps (especially given how the dice seem to hate you...).
Holg Redhawk |
Level 7
Cleric of Gorum
HP: +9
Feat: Ironbound Master -> armor training 1 (Holg can move at full movement while on medium armor now)
Spells: +1 1st level, +2 4th level
Skills:
K. planes x2
Background skills:
K. history
K. engineering
Holg Redhawk |
Thanks for the heads up Brainiac, have fun with your family! I hope we can perhaps make some character interactions during the week roleplaying a bit our stay at Torch while you are away.
I am still finishing the accounting but you can count to have at least 8000 gp each of you for buying in Torch.
Let me know if you are interested in any other items (thanks Viv for marking the grenades already), I will note the most relevant ones now, let me know if you are interested:
Coen
Are you interested to keep the wands?
- grease wand (11 charges)
- ray of enfeeblement wand (34 charges)
- scorching ray wand (16 charges)
Fireday
+1 breastplate
Kaska
EMP Pistol
Holg
sound burst scroll
+1 spiked gauntlet (in case we need magical weapon)
Viv
5 more gas grenades
interest in a concussion grenade?
hard light shield <- you are the only one with free hands to use this, are you interested?
There is an available cloak of resistance +1 and a ring of the ram (useful to break doors and reposition enemies).
I think we should keep the envoy's mouthpiece on someone with Androffan so we can always understand all languages.
There is a new skillslot available, Fireday has yet to activate the one for engineering we found earlier. If no one is interested on this stuff I can Cash them.
Coen Deval |
Ray of Enfeeblement is worth it, the rest are better turned into cash for gear imho.
Bloodline Feat: Blind-Fight
7th level Feat: Spell Penetration
Spells known:
2nd: Knock
2nd: Eldritch Conduit (Favored class human bonus)
3rd: Dispel Magic
3rd: (bloodline) Blink
Skills: +1 Bluff, UMD, Spellcraft, Knowledge Arcana
I am probably going to spend all my money on as high a bonus on a cloak of resistance as possible.
Holg Redhawk |
Upgrading the belt past the initial +2 is expensive, you probably can wait a bit to improve it. Perhaps you can get a headband of Wis +2? I will go with that myself I think, improves spells, Perception, Will saves and other skills!
Combat wise you can look for AC improvements like an amulet of natural armor +2 and you can perhaps take the cloak of resistance +1 from the common pot.
Otherwise you could look after some item that gives bonuses to a skill you like or to one that does something cool.

I finally found the time to level up Kaska: Back to Ranger for this one, so Ranger 6 / Barbarian 1
HP: +10
BAB: +1
Will: +1
Fort: +1
Feats: Precise Shot (Ranger Style), Focused Construct Expertise (7th)
Skills: +1 Acrobatics, Disable Device, K Local, K Nature, Perception, Stealth, Survival
background: Handle Animal, K Engineering
I haven't gotten around to leveling up Kaska's hawk at all yet. That's coming soon!
Kaska of Red Talons |

As for equipment, Kaska already has the EMP Pistol, but I'm not sure it's a very good weapon. If I understand the DR/Hardness rules (which is a "maybe"), it's touch but doesn't bypass DR or Hardness. Nice for plinking at robots with touch to hit, but almost no damage actually done and it's stagger effect only works on a critical hit of 20.
I think it's better to sell it off (6,000 GP!) and get Kaska a MWK +4 STR Compound Bow along with a bunch of adamantine-tipped durable arrows with part of the profit.
I'm also considering just going ahead and getting an adamantine falx made. It's pricey but worth it. Since it's automatically MWK the money saved from not using MWK Transformation on her current one offsets the cost some.
Kaska would also take the +1 Cloak of Protection if nobody else wants it. Her Will save could use a little bolstering.
I picked up the various e-picks and passcards, might as well have them all in one place.
I think it might be a good idea for Kaska to keep the +1 Battle Axe for a while. Having a magic weapon can really become a thing at the levels we're getting into.
The skillslot looks cool to me, but Kaska would never pollute her body with that kind of stuff.
Kaska of Red Talons |
@Viv: Do you want to be the grenadier? There are still a couple of unclaimed grenades. It might be easier if you keep them but if you don't want to Kaska will take them.
@Coen: The Ring of the Ram might be a nice thing for you to have in a pinch, could save you a spell or two here and there. It's also a great door opener of last resort.
Viv Voltine |

I have all the ranged combat stuff because of my kinetics, so I'm happy using grenades. I will probably take Quick Draw for my feat so that I can easily move, draw grenades or shards, and shoot.

In another universe, Holg owns a van that has a sweet painting on the side of a wizard and a barbarian fighting a balrog.
Holg Redhawk |
Ok, after selling the pistol and the wands the final share (EDIT: per person) is 10.579,89 gp. As for the split of the equipment, having into account your picks in the sheet, and dividing the rest to balance the character wealth this is my proposal:
Kaska
Cloak of resistance +1
Manticore's Battleaxe +1
White access card
black e-pick
gray access card
green access card
green e-pick
Viv
timeworn hard light shield
gas grenade
concussion grenade
inferno grenade
zero grenade
skillslot
Holg
Sound burst scroll
Nalakai's +1 spiked gauntlet
cureall vial x2
Coen
Ray of enfeeblement wand (34 charges)
ring of the ram (17 charges)
potion of invisibility
timeworn flare gun
timeworn proximity helmet
Fireday
envoy’s mouthpiece
Kulgara's +1 breastplate
As said, it's just a proposal. Let me know about any change you would make to the divy.
Meanwhile, I have added a page for each of us at the treasure sheet with some SQL queries to automatically list all the items and share on each of us. That should help us to easily check what party items each of us have, and balance up the wealth among us. There is also a space for you to add there your purchases that automatically corrects your gold available, so you can use it to easily check how much more you can buy and keep track of everything, feel free to use it or pursue your own means ;)
