Hey, guys. Two of my players have disappeared from my Kingmaker and Carrion Crown games. We have decided to accept 2 new characters for Kingmaker and 1 for Carrion Crown. Just like for my Kingmaker game, I'm going to ask that interested players post their characters and answer questions about them. I will select the new players based on how well they will contribute to the current party. You don't have to read the entire thread of either game, but at least check to see if they are the kind of style that you want to play in.

Both games are roleplaying-heavy. If you can't go a few hundred posts between combats, this won't be the game for you. If you don't feel that you can contribute to a conversation about the nature of good and evil, this won't be the game for you. If your idea of a good post is two lines, this won't be the game for you. If you can only post once every few days, unfortunately, this might not be for you.

If you want to make a character, that's fine. It's 20 to 23 point buy, depending on alignment (TN is 20, LN/NE/CN/NG is 22, LG/CG/CE/LE is 23). If you dump a statistic, you'd better be willing to explain it and play it. Make sure that you say which campaign you want your character to be a part of. You can apply to both, though not with the same character. I'll leave submissions open until Saturday night (Central US time). Anything from Core, APG, and UM are acceptable, but try not to overlap with what we currently have. The parties are good and neutral, but an evil character could possibly make it in if the story is good enough.

Kingmaker:
KINGMAKER
Kingmaker Thread
We are currently level 3, with over 2100 posts since January. This is a political game, with a number of running conspiracies ongoing in Brevoy to the north. Familiarity with Brevoy's politics is pretty much a must. So far, the PCs have uncovered a major conspiracy by the Lord Mayor of Restov to have them killed, have come into conflict with a local bandit named the Stag Lord, witnessed a procession of powerful winter fey, and explored much of the region. They are currently headed back to Oleg's Trading Post to celebrate Taxfest, which would be a good time to insert a new character.

CURRENT CHARACTERS
* Berrin Myrdal - Human Male Fighter. Accidentally killed a minor noble a few years back, joined a mercenary group afterwards.
* Jemini of Lebeda - Human Female Paladin. The party's unofficial leader and a daughter of nobility. Strongly believes in the mission as sent by her patron goddesses. Has an almost preternatural lucky streak.
* Taisper Stozs - Human Male Inquisitor (Abadar). Utterly lacking in an understanding of morality. Values family, including his cousin Verik, and law. Believes strongly in the infallibility of his divine mission.
* Tandlara - Elf Female Witch. Very strange and alien woman, having gone through a previous adventuring career (losing her human lover in the process) and retiring to the woods. Currently has an unknown patron from the First World who gave her a vision to return to adventuring.
* (NPC) Verik Jarrow - Human Male Cleric (Abadar). Slightly awkward but well-intentioned cleric. Has taken it on himself to rein in his strange cousin. Often curses his relative inexperience in combat, relative to the martial abilities of the rest of the expedition. Sees himself as the accountant of the group.
* (NPC) Zander Orlovsky - Human Male Fighter/Archer. Badly burned as a child and secretly the heir of House Orlovsky. Bitter and anti-noble as a result. Has recently obtained a hat of disguise created by Verik, and thus has obtained some semblance of normalcy in his appearance.

Carrion Crown:
CARRION CROWN
Carrion Crown Thread
We are currently level 1, with almost 500 posts since March. (This game is a tad bit slower, but I'm hoping that it picks up as we enter the main plot hooks.) It's more of a mystery and horror game, with a brewing battle between a secret society and a mysterious undeath-worshiping cult, a malicious ghost apparently intent on killing the party, and a serial killer on the loose in the small town.

CURRENT CHARACTERS
* Aydan Mishnok - Human Male Barbarian. Pathfinder Initiate who was shipped to Ustalav after causing the death of another Initiate. Gets lost in his battle-rage, but is otherwise the voice of reason.
* Azuk'ai - Half-Orc Male Ranger. Half-orc masquerading as a half-elf.
* (NPC) Duron - Elf Male Wizard. Secretly an elvish archmage, imprisoned by Tar-Baphon at the height of the war. Memories long-lost after awakening.
* Melk Besonders - Human Male Monk. Perpetually smiling. Born to a prison, much like Harrowstone.
* Runyon - Elf Female Alchemist. A very strange and awkward elven girl. Doesn't believe that the gods are anything but powerful mortals. Extremely intelligent, but inherently unusual. Tends to not have social skills, but knowledgeable about many fields.
* (NPC) Wesh Theron - Human Male Druid. Angry teenager whose mother was turned into a werewolf to survive the pregnancy.

Carrion crown please for a thousand!

Kenderkin here!

And here is my half-orc summoner that just needs a few changes here and there, but is ready to go....

Kingmaker please.
The character under the alias was for an aborted katapesh based game. Please see the background for a sample of my writing style. He will need to be restated etc. for this game but I think a detective bard can add something to the game. He would be a fish out of water until enought of the city rubbed off. After that I see him becoming a great sheriff/diplomat.

Can you both tell me a bit about your characters and how they might find themselves embroiled in the middle of a cold war between Rostland and Issia? Or would you prefer to focus more on the fey storyline?

I wanted to throw my hat into the ring for Carrion Crown. I'm working on my character now and I'll have the alias created in about an hour.

Hi guys. I'm the player of both Tandlara and Aydan.

Just checking in here, I'll be keeping an eye on the various suggestions.

I actually reccommend you look at the existing characters and build someone who will have interactions and debates with the current characters without killing them, just the right amount of inter party tension.

This isn't first come first served, so take a bit of time to make a quality character, and maybe mention how you think this new character will interact with the existing party. Massive brownie points to be had there.

Looking forward to seeing more!

I know its first come first serve I just wanted to let DM Barcas know I was interested. I'm making a cleric seeing how your party doesn't have one and she's a worshiper of Pharasma which ties her into the town pretty well.

Right. It's definitely not first-come first-serve.

Technically, I'm arranging a point value system. Up to 10 points on character story/potential party mesh, up to 5 points on posting history, and up to 10 points on writing style. Looking back at my original submission sheet, the highest accepted score was 7/5/10 and lowest was 7/4/4.

If you could also include what you think your potential combat role and potential social roles might be, I'd appreciate that.

Here is my character submission...hope you like it. She is a Cleric of Pharasma(sp?). Everything is flexible so if there is something you don't like let me know and I'm sure we can work it out. I hope you don't mind me being a little creative in my background...but I think it gives a great link into the story. I used a 20 point buy and gave my self average starting gold(140 for a cleric).

As for her role in combat she isn't afraid to step up in a fight and is more than capable of holding her own, but she knows that the role of a cleric isn't always to get up on the front line so she will not be afraid to stay back and buff as needed.

As for as social situations go I think shes going to be one of the diplomats of the group. She also has the ability to support others if they want to try to do the talking. She'll pretty much fit what ever roll is necessary at the time.

As far as Party fit I think She'll fit right in. She might have to have a talk to Aydan if she ever found out he was a murderer and the fact that he's a human could make for some great role play between the two of them.

Azyk'ai will be a mystery to her if she ever cracks the disguise because she wouldn't understand why anyone would want to pretend to be a half-elf.

Runyon is the most intriguing to her seeing how she's another female half elf but doesn't have the social graces that Tami managed to keep. That and her view on Gods could be a source for some rather heated debates.

Heya :) - I (like Tandlara posting a bit higher) am a player in both games.

Let me reiterate that it is a tremendous pleasure to play in DM Barcas' games and it is anything but a combat fest. Posts are awarded individual XP and have accounted for about 50% of the total XP earned so far. Yes, this means that you can have more or less XP than other players based on how well and often you post. And yes it means that we've played with one character at level 3 where the rest were still at level 2 for quite a while.

Hi Barcas! (Tokine says hi too)

I just missed the cut during your original Kingmaker audition to Jemini, and she is such a cool character that you made a good choice. My wolf-riding gnome cavalier got picked up in another PbP, so I went off and am having fun with that concept.

For your current situation: I am very interested in putting together a concept for the Carrion Crown game.

I have a couple of ideas, but will read through the game thread tonight to see which fits best. My first inkling is an irresponsible cleric of Cayden Cailean late to his old professor's funeral. ...oooh or a non-judgmental Inquisitor...more of an avatar (I can't see Cayden being that judgmental).

But I want to get my hands on my Ultimate Magic this week as it seems an arcane or clerical caster is in order and I want to see the new options and perhaps think about a Magus or witch too.

Be back with a full concept, but wanted to express my interest. Been wanting to get in on a CC game and was SO disappointed when you just rolled your existing group over without auditions, although I completely understand the reasoning behind it.

Hey Lore would you mind taking a look at Tami and seeing if there is anything I could tweak or improve. If I don't make this game I understand but that doesn't mean I can't learn from this experience and improve.

I should also let you know that I'm in another play by post on another site and post a couple of times a day so posting frequency won't be a problem.

Hy all. Nightflier here. I am applying with a character that would most probably be more appropriate for the Kingmaker game, since his background is pretty heavy in politics. He is not finished - only background is done, and I can't finish him before Monday. I can usually do several posts per day, and if I can't I always announce it beforehand and that never lasts longer than few days.

I may create another concept for Carrion Crown game tomorrow.

@Tami - as a special once-off (others shouldn't expect me to repeat the effort), I'll tell you what I think. Don't let that be a reflection on DM Barcas' judgment though. He's a very thorough and discerning man.

Regarding Tami's application: I think she's too underdeveloped at this point. The story is a bit simplistic and makes me think of an emo (which isn't a problem in itself, but does mean you need to sell the simplicity and the character well). The personality isn't defined much at this point and can get a bit more direction and ambition.

Personally I also like to see a bit of the mechanical development planned for a character (up to say level 5 at least) - to understand what the character is about in the long run. I don't claim this is true for the others or DM Barcas though. Finally, your application post itself includes some tie-ins, which is great - but the sorest thing lacking are samples of your typical posting style and content.

...sorry if this sounds a bit negative: with Verik (in Kingmaker) we've lost one of the most enjoyable writers/characters I've had the pleasure of experiencing. As such I am spoiled and have high expectations - probably unachievably high. (If I understand correctly, Verik was actually played by a professional writer. His creativity and writing flair were definitely a step above.)

Good luck :)

@ LoreKeeper: Thank you so much for your feedback I didn't mean to be an inconvenience. I to like to plot out my characters but I usually plot them out all the way to 20th level...well at least for feats. It will been done for Tami as well but I didn't want to post it because I think it would clutter the character log to much. You also make a good point about not including a sample of my writing so I've included in this post a sample from my other play by post. I should mention that I'm currently in another Carrion Crown game...I really hope this isn't a problem and I've very capable of not spoiling plot points. Here is a sample of my writing style.

Samson had been praying to his deity in a temple in lastwall when the message was relieved. He stands from the alter and bows his head to the image of Kendra.

"I will be there dear Kendra" he responds trying to hold back the emotions that are starting to well up with in him. Being that he had been staying in Lastwall for the last month working for its temple of Iomedae he knew that mail would be slow but he figured everything was normal when his last letter from the professor came just two days earlier. He pulled it out from his backpack and read it to him self again, tears starting to stream slowly down his face as it dawned on him that this letter would be his last from the great professor. Knowing what the professor dedicated his life and work to Samson had very bad feeling that undead were somehow involved in the professors demise and that made part of his blood boil. He takes to his knees once more before the alter.

Iomedae, please guide my path as I take to the road once more, though this time it is not to find another house to communicate with you, but I suspect you know that already. May I serve as a blessing to you in this challenging time. And please guide my hand if I need to dispatch of any creature that doesn't please you or is a curse on this land. The last part of the prayer was about undead though he knew she would understand what she meant. Knowing time was on the essence he quickly gathered the rest of his things from the humble room he had in the temple and headed off. As he was leaving one of the clerics came to his side and gave him a holy symbol of Iomedae.

"May the great goddess guide you, where ever it is your going" the cleric says and then heads back into the temple. Samson puts the holy symbol around his neck and then starts the long journey to Ravengro.
--------------------------------

Samson arrives in the town of Ravengro some time later. His sword swings from his hip and his shield clangs against the back of his armor, as he had it strapped to his back, as he walks through town. He stops one of the townspeople in the street "Which way to the Temple?" he asks, though his voice sounds more like a command than a request.

Any other feedback from anyone else would be greatly appreciated. The entire play by post game can be found Here if you want to see it DM Barcas.

Both my games are pretty far off the usual AP path, so most of them don't really have anything in common with the average game. Even if you've played in another CC or KM game, it should be sufficiently different.

Try not to get up to 10 posts on a character, in case you decide to change your character name or anything like that.

Though it is nice to find players that haven't played a campaign yet, it is naturally a rare and unusual thing here on the forums. That said, players should know that DM Barcas is not a very "by the book" kind of guy. His adventures take their cues from the APs, but are in many ways different.

Posting for Caelius True.

Well I hold a bard can fit anywhere

Politics:
In a land like Brevory with the houses smiling while they all hold knives there is ample opportunity for a man like me to dig too deep, to find out something that someone will pay dearly to get out of his head, preferably with a hammer. I only wish I knew what it was.
The first groups were just thugs. Streetknives hired in a shiverhouse. They knew nothing.
Next time it was a crossbowman. I knew him too Glass Jimmy. They called him that because he specialized in shooting through windows. He even had special bolts made to go through glass easier. Went through my chest easy enough. Local priest of Abadar owed me a favor, not any more.
Glass Jimmy vanished after that; word is he's headed for Katapesh. I don't know if he's running from me or from the people who hired him.
I wish him luck.
I thought all this was the Lacune mob out for revenge. I had managed to get Caius Lacune hanged for the Timmer job. More importantly a warehouse full of Pesh and booze and worse burned while I did it. But the Lacune's were quiet. They were all smiling at each other while they worked out who got to sit in Caius's chair. So who? Who wanted me dead badly enough to pay Glass Jimmy?
I found out the day my office burned. I loved that place and she didn't go down easy. I'll tell you sometime when I've had a few drinks.
It took a couple of broken arms but I learned the Wallflower burned my place. She was serious bad. One of the best. Crazy as a shiver head coming of a five day binge but calm and smart when she needed. It took me three weeks to find her.
Things went wrong, she died.
We were talking at the end, sitting in that old river hulk and bleeding together. It was too far away and I was to beat up to get help. So I kept her company. Turns out she was hired by on of the big boys. Our just and honorable rulers in House Surtova were hiring people to kill me. Wallflower didn't know why, she didn't care. She did tell me that they offered her a bonus if she killed me before I left for the stolen lands.
I hadn't been planning to leave the city, but if someone is willing to pay a bonus the Wallflower will notice to keep me away, then there must be a very good reason to go.

Fey background tomorrow.

HEY!! Didn't you get ripped to pieces by a Barghest?

Quick post before I have to go to work.

For Carrion Crown.

Delia, young female human summoner.

Her Eidolon is a biped, with a heavy build that she always calls "Father".

It is how she deals with the murder of her father. He was a tailor that got her into good schools only by being known for making fine clothing for the nobility. When she found him murdered in his home, she animated one of his dressing dummies with his life force, or so she thinks. She is determined to find his killer and mete out justice.

Will write more with time.

who thought we were first come first serve, that almost never happens.... ;)

How I see Grusk fitting in with the current characters....

Spoiler:

Likely Aydan Mishnok, will appreciate the fact there will be someone heading into combat aside him.

Azuk'ai will have another half-orc around, one that likely aids him in passing for human

Duron will have a boost in arcane casting even though it will be minor....

Melk Besonders will likely appreciate the subtile nature of Grusks Eidolon, a small animal rather than medium or large, and not frightening at all.

Runyon the alchemist will appreciate the powers drawn not from dieties, instead from some far conjured beast.

ie why they might want me around! ;)

KINGMAKER SUBMISSIONS

@Caelius While I do appreciate the pulpy writing, we tend for more of a novel-esque narrative. Is it possible that you could include a third-person style, or limit first-person narratives to some sort of journal? Also, I really don't have much of an idea of what might bring your character to Brevoy and the Stolen Lands, especially all the way from Katapesh. What would cause Surtova to try to put out a bounty on your character, and why before you set out for the Stolen Lands? Why would you want to go to the Stolen Lands anyway? The expeditions have all been set out for about a month now.

@Alexius Regarding your backstory, I am very interested but looking for clarification on a few points. If looking for family in Brevoy, what house would his bloodline have married into? How did Nathaniel go from searching in Brevoy to the Whisper Woods of Cheliax? Your stats are 45-point buy, which is higher than what we're using here; he'd also be 3rd level instead of 5th. (Fortunately, that makes him eligible for the bladebound archetype, which seems to be what you're going for.) How about we clean up the history just a bit, make Alexius the nephew or half-long-lost-cousin or whatever, and leave the potential relatives in Brevoy's nobility as something to explore. Why is he neutral, rather than the locally-preferred lawful evil?

CARRION CROWN SUBMISSIONS

@Grusk Why is the eidilon a fox? Does he have any motivation beyond not wanting to live in the trash dump? Would he be connected to Professor Lorrimor, or to Ravengro itself through another avenue?

@Meowzebub I'll wait for your ideas, though the idea of an irresponsible cleric is rather entertaining to me. In-game, the funeral was the day before, so it can still work. Let me know if there's something that you'd like to work out of UM. If you went with inquisitor, you'd have to distinguish it mechanically enough from Taisper over in the Kingmaker game. The less overlap we have, even between groups, the better. (Though there are enough archetypes now that classes can overlap without issue, such as with Zander and Berrin in Kingmaker.)

@Tami VP is right in the simplicity of the background, though that's not necessarily a bad thing. One issue with your background, not that you'd know it without reading the thread, is that Father Grimburrow doesn't particularly care for Professor Lorrimor. Father Harking, a younger NPC cleric, actually owes his life to the Professor, so there are still avenues of interaction. Who were her parents? Why didn't she make the funeral? What does she value, and what's her personality like? Are the tenets of Pharasma something she believes in cognitively or emotionally, and why?

@Delia You don't have much to go on so far. What would possess a young girl (and how young are we talking?) to join up with an apparent group of strangers who are trying to save some old guy's soul from its imprisonment? The story does have a serial killer (twenty years prior to the story) called the Silent Knife, so that might be a way to get her involved.

@Cassandra Has Cassandra ever interacted with her mother? If she is neutral in alignment, why is she so nurturing and healing? Did her hag mother draw her to the shadow?

Yeah I only had a few minutes before I had to go to work.

I have her background in her profile all written up now. The mechanical parts will follow.

With her background, I left open where her mother went in case you wanted to tie it with anything in the story (the secret society or the undeath cult. And left the father's killer open in case it could possibly tie in with either the ghost or the serial killer.

I also included an association with the professor from the first post in the thread.

As far as age, she's not a creepy shuriken kind of young. She's youngest for a human PC (16), and is the kind of person that needs a mother/father figure. It would have been the professor, but then she learned of his death as well. I imagine she would find a simple kinship, as foster children, with the rest of those that were touched by the professor's life.

I hope this covers what you were looking for.

This is a character created for another game. I didn't have the time to do a complete write-up for your Kingmaker game, so I presented the concept I created before. We rolled 2d6+6 for that game.

I will change his background to reflect this game and to be more in accord with your rules - and he will most probably be LE.

You are perhaps thinking of Nathaniel Morai-Thrune, created for your own game? :) I don't know how he got eliminated from the story once I bowed out. I am truly sorry for leaving that game, but since I am a freelancer, my job tends to be very mercurial. Sometimes I have lots of time, and sometimes I sleep only 4 hours out of 24.

If it sways your character design: I vote against evil characters. Since Jemini is a paladin the degree of unresolvable conflict will not be sustainable.

Oh, it might be a good idea to have a character from/with ties to one of the other Brevic Great Houses. We have big overlaps with Orlovsky, and Lebeda already. It would be interesting to see another highborn character, because that gives huge interesting hooks into the politics of the story. Brevoy is ever so slightly Game of Thrones, its well worth making a character to take advantage of that.

Also, its not a big thing, but both campaigns have lowish fantasy feels to them, so if there isn't any huge reason to be a non-human, don't be. Humans will get more mileage. If you do play a non-human, make an effort to distinguish them, make it obvious they aren't humans. Akuz'ai is a great example of this. Put alot of thought into being non-human.

Keeping the cool ideas coming!

Dark Archive

I will probably change the race to human or half-elf, and I will tie the character to both of one of the great houses, Cheliax and perhaps some elven faction. I think that would be interesting.

Kingmaker entry

Holbrecht is an architect and enginerr through and through. Cleric of Brigh, mainly just for the education the church offered, but he likes her style, so he'll stick with it.

His level (need to add 2) and background (need to add going to Brevoy)needs to be adjusted for the region. But he hears there's lots of lords, more lords means more comissions. He just really wants to build the better permanent structure, and maybe go down in the history books for doing so.

Updated Grusk....

Spoiler:

Making his way in the world Grusk was driven from most lands and lived on the fringes of societies, in that time he kept imagining that he was not alone the fox appeared to him, he had seen the worshipers of nature before and felt in a way drawn to the fox, sly and cunning slipping into places and taking what he needed. In his mind each day the fox became more and more real, till one day it took shape and he summoned the Eidolon he calls wise fox. Grusk survived finding broken items in the dumps and scraps, using minor magic he learned from wise fox, he mended and binds broken things into useful items.......

Professor Lorrimor was met and Grusk saved him from being buried under a heap of trash. The professor was interested in summoners and had been seeking a spontaneous summoner one who developed without any arcane influences, he was further intrigued by Grusk being neutral and seeing a balance within the cosmos..

Grusk now fully eqipped, and hearing of the passing of the only person he knew in the world, has left the dumps and scavenging behind him seeking instead to learn more about the world than the stories Professor Lorrimor told him on his visits.

Also considering full orc rather than half-orc......

No, once she was attacked by the shadow and her powers manifested the "link" to her Mother was broken but if you want her Mother to keep trying to contact her, go ahead.

Given her near death experience Cassandra has come to value life and wishes to help others, she had always been viewed as an outsider by her village and this was a way for her to improve her relation with them.
I just came up with the shadow idea as a random encounter, given the dangers of travelling alone at night and as a reason why her powers and curse manifested itself under extreme duress, but if you wanted to create a plot hook using it, feel free to do so.

Neutral? Really? Hmmm, can't remember why I did that. I've played her as being more towards the Good side, so maybe I need to rethink her alignment and change it to at least Neutral Good.

I would like to apply with

Corwin of the Axe AKA Corwin the Bastard:

Human Barbarian 1 / Fighter 2

Background:

In the end it took three house armsmen to drag Corwin of his half-brother. It took another two to beat him into submission. The end tally was impressive: three broken ribs, 2 broken fingers, one lost tooth and a mass of bruises. To Corwin it seemed more than a fair trade. Not just because he managed to spread Alexey's perfect patrician nose across his face, although that provided undeniable satisfaction. No. What was worth it was seeing the fear in his eyes when Corwin took him by the throat. What was worth it was the knowledge shared between them (and everyone else in the room) that if the guards had been just a half step slower Corwin would have killed him.

Afterwards they dragged him in chains before his father. Baron Vladamir Surtova. Warrior. War-leader. Second cousin to a King. The great hall was otherwise empty. The servants cleared from what most considered would be an execution. The Baron sat, back ramrod straight, in his lord's seat. The seat from which he proclaimed judgement.
Corwin expected some emotion from the man. Anger certainly. Disgust. Disdain. But there was none when he spoke. "You are no son of mine. You are an animal. Begone from my house".

Three short sentences. Fourteen words. The only words his father had ever spoken to him. He found himself laughing. They were an acknowledgement of sorts. And at least he'd have no trouble remembering them.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------

Corwin was five when his mother brought him to the manor and left him there. He never saw or heard from her again. He bore her no ill will. Even at that age he understood that in life you did what you had to. And he was just glad to have a full belly.

Initially he didn't understand. The pointed fingers, the whispered comments and before long the jibes. A five year old doesn't know the meaning of bastard. But it didn't take long to realise that he was treated differently from everyone else and that meant little good. The Baron already had seven true born children by three separate wives. Four true born sons. He had no interest or regard for a dirty urchin boy born of his shame. Corwin for his part learnt valuable lessons in patience and endurance.

For the most part his half brothers and sisters took their cues from the Baron and simply ignored him. That he didn't mind. But Alexey, his elder by three years, seemed to regard his very existence as an affront that could only be eased by continual torment. That was much worse. Of his "family" his only regard was for his sister Elspeth. Shy and bookish she used to joke that he couldn't really be of Surtova blood he was too nice. It was Elspeth that taught him to read and write although she threw her hands up in mock despair at his ill formed script. She dressed his bruises and scratches from fighting with the servant's children and those caused by Alexey's "jokes". Once after Alexey thought it would be amusing to light his bedding on fire she actually went before the Baron to plead for intervention. He loved her for that alone. When Corwin was eleven she left to marry a Garess. After watching her ride out for the last time he hid and cried for the only time in his life.

At twelve the castellan informed him that he would be trained as Alexey's page and then squire. This was both blessing and curse. Long hours spent cleaning every piece of rust from Alexey's gear was the later. Martial training was the former. At first it was merely an outlet. An opportunity for Corwin to take out his frustrations, his rage, on training dummy or hapless sparring partner. But he soon grew to love the bustle of the yard: the ring of steel and iron. Olav, a veteran sergeant at arms sensed great potential in the boy and Corwin was a sponge eagerly taking in all he would teach of arms and tactics. While he tried it soon became apparent that he was rubbish with a sword. Parry and cut. Block and riposte. It didn't feel right.

Ironically, it was Alexey who suggested he take up the greataxe. A bastard's weapon for a bastard he said. But he was right. After years of training the axe didn't just feel good: it sang in his hands.

The academic side of his training was less successful. Neither heraldry, geography nor any of the other more specialist skills for which Surtova is well known held any interest for Corwin. If it didn't involve fighting, hunting or the history of battles he didn't want to know and his teachers soon gave up when they realised no one really cared what the boy knew as long as he carried out his duties.

At nineteen he met Caitlyn. Beautiful. Head strong. Noble. She wasn't his first but one smile from her carriage and he was smitten. If life was a story she may have run away with him as he begged. But life is not a story and a noble daughter of Surtova would never marry a bastard. A month later she was betrothed to his brother Grigori.

Physical provocations from Alexey had decreased as Corwin found his full size and strength to be replaced with ongoing verbal ones. But a serious clash was always inevitable. It started from something small: a misplaced sword that Alexey demanded Corwin produce. Corwin replied that he just might locate the sword stuck some ways up his arse provided that he first prepare a few torches to provide light. Alexey, angered, spitefully replied that he expected no less course an insult from a mongrel, bastard son of a worthless whore.

Corwin had heard and endured worse in fourteen years. Indeed much worse. But this time, this moment something deep in side of him snapped. His carefully constructed walls of patience disintegrated. A red film descended over his vision. Without a word he lept a table and did his level best to kill his brother with his bare hands.

He was cast out with nothing more than the clothes on his back, forced to take heavy work in town just to earn enough coin just to survive. But he endured. For two years he wandered the length and breadth of Brevoy and its surrounds taking whatever work he could find along the way. Fighting mostly, a man who knows how to use an axe is always handy and he was seldom picky as to his employers motives as long as the pay was good. As he went he honed his skills. Sometimes the anger, the red film, would come back in the heat of combat and he would bezerk not knowing friend from foe.

Unsurprisingly this habit earnt him few friends and he realised he needed to get it under control. It took another year. A year much spent in frustration but he learnt to bring on and stop the rage (mostly) and even use it to his advantage with his axework. But even having achieved the measure of control over himself he sought he found life hollow and began to perceive, at the intuitive level that he made all decisions, that he needed to find a purpose, something worthy of fighting for.

It was in Restov that he heard a herald cry news and post a proclamation telling of charters for the exploration and pacification of the Stolen Lands. Later he pulled the proclamation down and stashed it under his shirt to read later by the light of his campfire. Bah he thought. There is nothing there to explore but dirt, trees and monsters. A fool's errand for fools. He threw the parchment in the fire.

But later, as sleep refused to take him, its contents nagged at him. He imagined a brand new land, fresh, clean. No nobles to take a man's life and suck it dry. A land of promise and promises. A place where one could start over, be anything, no, be anyone. Perhaps he could be a part of it, pledge his axe to the people the proclamation spoke of and fight to create and preserve it? With an axe in his hand he was as good as any man. Why not take a chance? What did he have to lose? In the morning he scraped together his possessions and set out for the Greenbelt.

Personality:

Socially Corwin is sometimes ill-equipped although he is keenly intuitive. Outwardly he is often acerbic and sarcastic. A pragmatist. Inwardly he searches for something greater than himself, a cause to dedicate himself to although he would not put it in those terms.

He has two sides often in conflict: the careful, cany fighter and the reckless barbarian. Strong emotion tends to bring out the rage of the later although he has worked hard to bring that side of himself under control. In battle he is almost suicidally brave, likely the last one off the field. His background has led to a morality that is somewhat fluid but he is never mean or cruel.

Corwin's views would likely collide with those of the worshippers of Abadar. It is far too rigid an enforcer of the social status quo to sit comfortably with him. His past is not something he would easily reveal willingly. He would definitely make up for the lost anti-noble sentiment.

for Kingmaker.

I originally applied with Corwin for Alex K's Kingmaker game.

Currently GMing one game, DM Tanner Presents Legacy of Fire, and playing in Alex K's SS game and Tanner's Carrion Crown Game.

CARRION CROWN SUBMISSIONS

Sorry too much Raymond Chandler and Decoder Ring Theater. First, forget any mention of Katapesh. Caelius made his home in New Stetven before he was burned out. He chased the Wallflower to Restov before he caught her.

As far as why the stolen lands. He thinks it is because of the lead that Wallflower gave him, but it isn't. He wants honesty. He wants simplicity. He has been living noir for too long. Seen too much corruption and made too many compromises. He hopes the stolen lands will be cleaner. Mind you he hasn't let himself realize any of this yet. It will take him a while to be won over by the beauty and the people of the stolen lands but he will be won over. When that happens heaven help any outsider messing about in 'his' territory.

As to why Surtova wants him dead. He does not know. It may not even be Surtova; folks are strangely reluctant to give their real names to hired killers after all.
Wallflower could well have confused what she heard; perhaps it was someone else that the nobles wanted dead before they reached the Stolen Lands. Personally I suspect that Caelius knows something but does not know what it is he knows. Perhaps information that points to a rightful Rogarvian heir? Or a clue to what really happened 4699? It could even be a Fey plot to get him here for reasons yet unclear. Basically this is a huge plot hook that will keep his here until he goes native.

Note if you want a look at my posting rate and style please see the PbP's Expidition to the North, where I play Alfonso, feel free to read the spoilers, and Jormungandr's Carrion Crown, where i play the paladin Creel, again frrl free to read any spoilers.

Spoiler:

How about some suspicion upon this character as a suspect in the killing?

He has several striles, 1. late getting to the funeral, 2. full blooded orc (if allowed to change), 3 consorting with summoned creatures......

Food for thought

CARRION CROWN SUBMISSIONS

You know you are right this Caelius will not fit in kingmaker. So I will change him.

Allow me to present Caelius Nicos formerly Orlovetsky.

Caelius was a textbook minor noble’s son. By which I mean he was a drunk, a gambler and a wastrel, vicious and petty in the bargain. His father held a small diplomatic position in New Stetven something to do with ports or river traffic. Caelius neither knew nor cared.

This went on for years. There was a regular pattern of Caelius causing a scandal and the family bailing him out. This is the time he gains the level in Rouge. Alignment CN
Finally after one too many drunken parties the family had enough. He was enrolled in a dueling school with a military carreer to follow. The rules were simple. Leave the school, leave the family.

Caelius washed out. The school put on an exhibition, Caelius had been drinking, and a blunted sword tip caught him in the stomach. The family would not see him.

He was in a tavern two days later staring at a drink when he met Nicos. Nicos offered Caelius a gold piece to listen to him and not finish the drink.
It turned out that Nicos had seen the exhibition. Unlike the instructors he saw something in Caelius. Nicos told him he was unsuited to the Aldori or the Taldan dueling style. He was the wrong size, the wrong shape too quick and too sloppy. Training in either style would be pointless.
Caelius thanked the man for the character assessment and asked for his drink.
To this day Caelius maintained that he never saw Nicos's hand move. One moment he was raising the glass to his lips, The next he was holding half a glass and cheap gin was soaking into his trousers.

That was his first lesson with Nicos.

Nicos taught a different style of swordwork, more fluid and adaptive than the major styles. It favored an older style of sword, broader and slightly curved. The style attacked on odd lines and used the off hand to distract and catch attention.

Nicos told Caelius that this style was descended from one used by Rostov horsemen long before the Conqueror came. No one remembers it now.

So Caelius trained and lived and worked what jobs could be found for three happy years. free hand fighter 1. Alignment moves to CG.

Then came the duel. It was a classmate from the school he washed out of. One he strongly disliked. There was taunting, chiding him about is fall from grace. He even revealed that the wine they gave to Caelius the night before the exhibition was drugged. When they laughed at the old style sword he was wearing satisfaction was demanded.

It turns out that it is not illegal to duel. It is illegal for a commoner to duel a noble; especially if the commoner leaves the noble with a scar where his eyebrows used to be.
Caelius was arrested for dueling; Nicos was arrested for fomenting violence. It took two years for the law to recognize that Caelius was still technically a noble. Two years spent in hell. Caelius survived. Nicos was an old man, he didn't.

Leaving the prison Caelius finds a month’s old notice about the Stolen Lands. It was too late to sign the charter, but Nicos had often talked about finding somewhere new, a place on the edge of things, a place to found a new school and teach his style of fencing. Refining and developing the style until it could challenge the Aldori. The Stolen lands looked like just the place.

hey sorry for the inconveniance but I think I'm going to have to drop out of the running here. I just started my own play by post game and its taking off really quick and requiring more attention than I expected. Good luck to everyone else and I'm sure I'll see you guys around.

KINGMAKER SUBMISSIONS

@Alexius Is it possible to have your guy be LN with LE tendencies rather than noticeably LE? For one, Taisper would probably try to kill someone with an Evil aura on sight because he doesn't know any better (long story). and Jemini would help out of principle. Perhaps he could have some sort of reason to try to turn towards the light, such as the dying words of his mother or whatever. Also, seeing as you apparently dropped out of a previous game, can you commit to this one? You can go a few days without posting from time to time, but you'd have to play catch-up with the story. It's pretty dialogue-heavy, so you might miss an opportunity to interact if your posting is spotty. I do really like the idea of someone with ties to a foreign power, though.

@Holbrecht Does your character have any interests beyond wanting to build? There was a dwarf settlment near the holdings of House Garess that went into hiding ten years back. Perhaps your character could have some ties to that. Why does he worship Brigh rather than Abadar or Torag?

@Caelius What's his overall build planning on looking like? How would you distinguish yourself mechanically from Berrin or Jemini, or story-wise from the semi-similar tale of Zander? Also, if you could associate with one of the other houses, that would be great. Zander's got Orlovsky and what goes on with them.

@Corwin Corwin's a lot like Zander and would run into the same issues as Caelius (directly above). What would distinguish him from those characters?

I'll get to the Carrion Crown submissions in a little while.

@ Holbrecht Just wondering how you get a +11 on disable device.. I see +3 class +1 rank +3 dex +1 trait for a +8, can't see the missing +3.

@ Tami Azuk'ai isn't disguising himself as a half-elf. He looks like one becouse of the Veiled Vileness feat.

I am thinking first level rogue and then free hand fighter. Maybe the odd rogue level if it seems useful. I prefer organic development to tight builds. This means that I will make sub-optimal choices. Overall I'd like to focus on combat maneuvers. Disarm, feint, dirty trick, it might be fun to see how they work. If we start dealing with things that are maneuver proof that maybe shift more to rouge to take advantage of sneak attacks. Heck maybe shift more to rogue overall if I start to step on toes or we need skills.

DM Barcas wrote:

Well if Berrin stays pure fighter he will want heavy armor. I will not be moving past medium armor and more likely stay light. With the rogue level(s) and maneuvers I will complement him perfectly; he will be the anvil to my hammer. As to Jemini her Oracle levels and Paladin abilities will make her a shining goddess to my darker fighter/rogue. She will use spells where I will use skills to maintain utility.

Seperating myself from Zander should not be difficult. We both resent the nobility but he has a more personal stake. He also appears to be much more invested in the kingdom idea at least at the beginning. I expect him to be played darker than I will be. Caelius knows that he is no longer a noble and has absorbed Nicos's death. His goals complement what I see as Zander's but I do not think overlap will be a big problem.

DM Barcas wrote:

No problem. The specific house is unimportant. Any suggestions?

Thanks for asking these questions. It really helps to nail things down.

@ PWO Berrin will be dipping into Cavalier levels and go mounted by level 4 or 5 (probaly 5 to get weapon specialization at lvl 4) but yes, he'll be going heavy on the armor.

Cool that will move them further apart. Caelius can ride but not what you could call well.

Sigz wrote:

His first level feat is Skill focus Disable device.

@DM Barcas, if there is an old dwarven settlement he will want to try and either reestablish it, or find knowledge in it. He is always trying to find any lost or forgotten techniques. There is too much knowledge hoarding, and if there were more sharing then the wonders that society could build would grow exponentially.

He follows Brigh, because she is more in line with the type of construction he appreciates. Typical Dwarven craftmanship invloves solid stonework, or arms an armor, and they are good at it. He want's to create stonework machinery, much like his inspiration from the Stavian arches, it was a gigantic stonework machine. He's not much into the tiny little clockwork stuff, the gnomes can stick with that, he wants to create on a grand scale, cogs the size of tower tops.

(Mechanically, it was the only one that matched both alignment and the domains that I was trying to associate with his concept. I'm still not entirely familiar with the Golarion pantheon. If the other two offer those two domains as well then that works)

Question, how do you want the HP for the 3rd level characters done? Max 1st, roll for 2 and 3? In case of a roll, 2d8 ⇒ (2, 3) = 5.

Ouch, even more reason to avoid a fight if possible.

Zo might or might not be what you're looking for for Kingmaker: She doesn't have anything to do with the politics of Brevoy but would be more of an outsider picked up in the River Kingdoms.

character background:
Zo grew up one of a sizeable contingent of illegitimate children of a River Kingdoms bandit with pretensions to grandeur. Dreaming of controlling his own tiny kingdom, he decided the easiest means to collecting followers was to grow his own. He kidnapped as many women as he could find to serve as his harem and used the lure of ever-present female companionship to recruit minions. As the fruit of his band's unions accumulated, he trained up the children as servants at his home base while he sent his men out in small bands to bring back loot, new recruits, and more women.

Zo was trained as a cook and spent her childhood and adolescence serving food to the whoever was in the camp for any given meal. Her father, always one to accept a job well done as only his due and quick to deliver complaints with the back of his hand, added sexual abuse to the daily routine of the female offspring of his camp as they went through puberty. Inside the palisade, every day was the same as the day before ... until the night a pack of owlbears blundered into the palisade when the drunken guard panicked and tried to escape to the safety behind the walls. In the dark and chaos, Zo saw her chance, grabbed the rapier from a fallen bandit, and stabbed her unsuspecting father from behind as he tried to direct his followers. She escaped the slaughter into the night.

Since then, she has spent her time alone in the wilderness, travelling through the River Kingdoms, hiding from danger when she could and fighting only when necessary. She has learned a great deal about tactics: how to use the terrain to her advantage and when to beat a hasty retreat. She has also learned that, while she appreciates her freedom, there is an emptiness to being alone. She misses someone to tell her what to do, as she was given orders all day long in her father's stronghold. Overhearing bits of information about some kind of community gathering at a nearby trading post, she has decided to break her self-imposed exile from humanity and risk attending, in the hope of finding someone to follow, someone who can use her skills.

The passage of time has healed the bruises her body accumulated, but the wounds her abusive childhood inflicted on her psyche are still fresh, if invisible. Growing up, she learned that her best defense was to go unnoticed. She greatly values her ability to blend into the crowd, to be inconspicuous and unmemorable. Just as greatly, however, she values competency: her ability to perform whatever task is set to her; in her past, failure was always met with abuse. She grew up without any moral education whatsoever: Good and evil mean nothing to her, but if she can find someone to accept her service, she will obey without question. Although taciturn and stoic in demeanor, she longs to belong to something larger than herself again.

Zo would present herself to the party as a cook and wilderness guide. Jemini's personal charisma would draw her in, and her kindness would sway her to believe this is a party she can safely give her services to without being abused again. Zo is an atheist, not because she doesn't believe the gods exist, but because her experience has convinced her that none of them care about her insignificant life. While the gods do well to take an interest in exceptional people like Jemini and Taisper, she believes herself to be beneath divine notice.

I'd like to offer Aliandara Naveksy, an Alchemist using the Chirurgeon archetype. I'd love to play in a Kingmaker campaign and also would enjoy some serious roleplaying.

Here's the information on Aliandara:

background:

Aliandara's father was a surgeon to the house of Surtova, supplementing divine healing with his own more scientific methods. As the daughter of a trusted, and educated, member of the household, Aliandara was raised in the company of the daughters of the house, sharing their education and partaking (mostly vicariously) in the luxuries afforded to the daughters of nobility. Even today, Aliandara looks back wistfully at her time with the Surtovas.
One day, however, her father was cast out of the household. Aliandara was never sure if her father failed at some task, if his more disreputable researches were discovered, or if the family simply tired of the novelty of having a court surgeon. Whatever the reason, Aliandara and her father began wandering throughout Brevoy as her father attempted to scrounge together enough money to continue his researches. Occasionally, Aliandara and her father would have to flee a community as locals reacted violently to her father's investigations. Such experiences helped to instill a certain distrust of the common people and those who have no love for science.
Traveling with her father, Aliandara learned many of his secrets–she was a natural at the healing arts that her father practiced while employed by the Surtovas–but she could always tell that he was holding some ideas back. As they moved further and further south, her father became increasingly secretive and erratic. In a small town near Restov, Aliandara discovered, to her horror, the reasons for her father's behavior. Bursting into her father's temporary lab, she found him manipulating the corpses of the recently dead, trying to breath new life into them. Appalled, Aliandara waited until her father was away and destroyed his laboratory, fleeing into the the Stolen Lands and seeking to find a path of her own.

personality:

Due to her upbringing in the House of Surtova and subsequent experiences with people's fear of her father's work, Aliandara is often aloof, perhaps even haughty when dealing with new people, especially those who appear uneducated or of lower classes.
Aliandara is a fervant believer in science and the progress of knowledge. Those that share her beliefs or who are willing to share information–even information as simple as a description of the local flora or fauna–will suddenly find her quite friendly and talkative. Indeed, the quickest way to break through Aliandara's shell is to engage her in a conversation about matters scientific.
Due to her upbringing at the hands of her father, Aliandara has some eccentric beliefs. She often denigrates magic as the purview of the the few, while extolling science and alchemy as having the potential to open up the world to the common people without needing years of study or some special bloodline. She also has been taught that the ancient Azlanti used technology and alchemy to achieve their wonders, not mere magic. Her father always claimed that he was uncovering the secrets of the Azlanti.
Her discoveries about her father have caused her to question many of her attitudes and beliefs and she is currently trying to find her way through the questions that her father's activities have produced in her.
As to how she might fit into the politics of Brevoy. Much of it has gone past Aliandara. However, if she rises in importance, House Surtova will likely remember a former member of their entourage and use that to their advantage. Aliandara likely remembers current members of the house when they were her childhood playmates. It will be hard for her to untangle those memories and instincts with the realities of the politics of Brevoy.

Ok, here is Meowzebub's Inquisitor(Avatar). Its late so hopefully this is sensible.

Life had always been easy for Tanner, his smile and charms got him through most of his troubles. The third son of a rich but minor Taldan noble. He drifted through life, failing to find a place in the military, clergy, or academy. For years he drifted under his father's permissive eye. His father encouraged all of his sons to go out and get educations and make their destinies. His eldest brother was smart and energetic and joined the Pathfinder Society. His second eldest brother was also smart, but more sickly and tended to be jealous of his two brothers. For Tanner, life was easy as his studies came easily to him, as did friends, and parties and he never took any of them to serious.

Then the day came that Tanner's father died. It was a hard time, but his father had requested that funding be provided to continue Tanner's education. His eldest brother upon his inheritance followed his father's wishes. Tanner was sent back to the University for his sake whether he wanted to or not and it was at this time he became a student of the Professor. The next year was an even harder blow, when his eldest brother died in Sargava. His second eldest brother inherited and in his jealousy soon cut off funding for Tanner's education and his annual stipend..

Tanner explained to the Professor that he would have to drop out of school due to lack of funding. The Professor took pity on him. Even though Tanner was not his best student he saw special qualities in him and agreed to take him on to help run his field camps due to his friendliness with locals/usefulness digging in ruins or hacking through jungles/memory of obscure details while on projects/and especially the nerve to complete dangerous tasks gladly. It did not pay much though and was seasonal work, as Tanner gradually saw the last of his inheritance dry up.

His funds were nearly gone when he thankfully got the Professor's letter. Tanner was to gather some scattered, unusual items and have then ready for when the Professor came on his way to his ancestral home. Everything was prepared and awaiting the Professor, who should arrive in a day or two. By this point Tanner was down to the very last of his coins and desperate for the Professor to arrive and put him back on the payroll.

Bored, Tanner found himself in a tavern about to spend his last coin. The man at the bar next to him waved an empty silver flask at him, "Can you help a friend out?" Tanner pushed the coin across the bar for two drinks and toasted with his new 'friend'.

Afterward, he had vague memories of smoking in a dark, spiced filled den, drinking wine from wide gold cups in a marble temple on a hill, raising a stein of mead in a Dwarven brewery, downing a glass of clear, fiery fluid in an Ulfen hall, sipping sake while soaking in a Tien bathhouse, and watching silk clad dancers sway to exotic music. His next memory was waking back in the same tavern but two weeks had passed. In his room he found his friend's silver flask and a note: 'Call on me again whenever your spirits need lifting.' C.

Racing out to the warehouse, Tanner discovered the Professor had come and gone, leaving a note thanking him for the supplies and telling him to catch up with him at his home in Ustlalav.

So he is currently hustling to catch up with the Professor and is unaware of his death.

Unbeknownst to him, Tanner had become an unwitting Servant of Cayden Cailean. His exploits as the ex-student/Field Expert of the Professor's expeditions had caught the God's attention. Given gifts he is yet to discover, Tanner was spared the Professor's fate to enact justice in his name.

Tanner's duties included going anywhere the Prof. asks and doing anything he needs. He has been bit, stung, burned...and considered it all part of exploring and learning. His one flaw...drink. He says it helps his nerves..calms him...loosens him...what ever is needed at the time as he is about to do something crazy, like open a crypt or squeeze into a cave. Drink was always there to help him and in moments of triumph, stress, or even boredom, Tanner would occasionally over do it, leaving the Professor without his main helper till he might sober up sometimes days later.

Realizing his limitations, the Professor had still taken to relying on him. Oftrn the Professor confided thoughts, theories and finds with Tanner, except whatever he had planned with all the unusual items Tanner collected, the Professor did not share their purpose.

Build Notes

Tanner is built as an Inquisitor, but I see him more as an avatar or champion of Cayden Cailean. Currently his spells and/or judgements are self buffs he gets from fortifying himself with his hip flask. He will be using the Valor Inquisition from Ultimate Magic instead of a domain{it provides touches that instill resistance to fear and eventually at 8th level Tanner would be immune to fear.. Hopefully he will slowly come to realize he has been chosen for some purpose.

I plundered a bit of Ayden's backstory for a little bit of a story hook. And initially, he is not sure he is a follower of 'the beer-swilling sellsword' as Run puts it.

Alexius is certainly envisioned as more neutral than evil type, so LN would be a fit for him.

I am currently running a game that has lasted for about a year and a half and counts more than 5000 posts, and I am playing in two pbps right now, but they seem to go rather slow, so I can usually commit to daily postings, even multiple posts per day. To be honest, I tend to have a problem with slow games and sometimes I back out of them if they get to slow for my taste. Sometimes, perhaps once in every two or three months I am finishing the current project I am working on (I am translator by trade) and during that week I tend to significantly lower my post count, but newer bellow one per day. Also, I like to be engaged by the GM or other players, so my posting kinda depends on others.

Here is the link for my Midnight game, so that you can check out my writing style.

There is just one other thing - I am on a business trip till Monday, possibly Tuesday, and during that time I am not in a position to create a character beyond writing a background, description and stuff like that. In fact, I am typing this in a pause between two meetings. If this inability affects or hinders your game in any way, than please be free to tell me so. :) No hard feelings.

I can also vouch for Joana. She is a reliable and often hilarious poster in my legacy of fire game.

DM:

In response to the questions above, I see Corwin and Zander aligning on several issues but, from my perspective at least, the similarities in their backgrounds are largely superficial.

Zander seems mired in his past while for Corwin its more of a spur to build his own future. His decision to travel to the greenbelt aries from personal choice rather than one built on a divine mandate. He dislikes certain members of his family certainly and has little respect for nobility but I see him as less bitter about his place in the world generally. Personally, his main conflict is his own battle for self-control. I see him as quick to anger (but likely quick to forget).

In terms of the other party members referenced, while Corwin has his own code of behaviour, I see him as more pragmatically netural on the good-evil axis, someone more likely to make the hard choices. He is less likely to believe that a new community of humans is able to peacefully co-exist with the existing inhabitants. He will be more serious than the fun liking Berrin and over time will probably have various clashes with Jemini.

Mechanically he is another front line fighter of course but IMO the party is big enough to handle another. With barbarian levels he is going to be more of a mobile assault type than the much more defensive minded Berrin or the spell using Jemini . I see him as the classic axeman type fighter. I'll probably give him a rank of ride but no more to reflect a passable but unskilled rider and he'll fight on the ground rather than from horseback which Berrin apparently will.

I've statted him out in herolab and will post that later if helpful. Skill-wise he'd add another decent perception checker, provide back-up tracking and intimidate. For some reason I like the idea of him not being able to swim. Progression wise he's either a weapon master or two-hand fighter and will probably go to barb 1/fighter 4 before adding another barb level or two. After that I'd see how things are going. In terms of leadership roles hes probably inclined toward being a general or marshall although he'd quite likely defer to the existing characters and fill out whats left.
