How do you keep a fighter from dipping for a pair of standards?
By not allowing a flurry when a character wears armor or wields a shield.
I'm actually considering extending the flurry restrictions themselves to limit to unarmed strikes and monk weapons (along with a new insight that extends a flurry to any weapon).
I think, all things considered, a fighter is generally better off picking Two-Weapon Fighting over a 1-level dip into monk. By level 11 he could have 6 attacks (7 with haste) with no restrictions on his defenses - or he could have two restricted standard actions (no action from haste). Even without Two-Weapon Fighting a level 11 fighter would have a hasted 4 attacks.
Dipping for Flurry needs to have a really well thought-out plan.
...
But, I'm hoping somebody can give a concrete example of a broken build that uses a 1-level dip for Flurry. There might be something clever that a druid or cleric could do. I'm too in-love with my work to clearly see its flaws.

I'm sorry for the slow responses. My son's going through a bit of a clingy/crying phase and starts crying whenever he gets put down (unless it's bedtime, when he mercifully takes to it pretty easily). Hopefully he'll get a tiny bit more independent soon and be able to be separated for at least a few minutes without freaking out.

I just caught up with your Monk Remake thread elsewhere in the Paizo forums, and it looks like you have a decent theorycrafting discussion going on with your remake there - good to see that it's pretty constructive and not hijacked like most threads hehe.

Hah! Threadjacks can be hilarious. You're right, the thread was very helpful in ironing out issues that I've not considered. I'm pretty happy with the explicit flurry description that I have now. Unfortunately the discussion is now becoming relatively limited as the participants have dwindled for the most part.

Verik of Abadar |

Yeah I can handle that, though I just have to review the posts a bit more carefully to make sure I'm not trying to cast a spell that's not in range. For this fight though I'll be buffing and staying close to Jemini, so it shouldn't be too tricky.
Sorry Zander, you're too far out now and I don't think I can get a decent chance of trying a Pro from Chaos on you there.
Wicked crit there Nikolai!

Taisper Stozs |

Yikes. Got some catching up to do.
Apparently I needed to pull a Bill Watterson there and take two straight sabbaticals. Yeesh. >_< I was gonna write another apology/explanation, but I figure everyone would prefer it greatly if I used that energy just to post, instead, so that's what I'm gonna do. :-)
Life is beyond ludicrously busy for me right now, so I still may miss a day or two here and there, but I am committed to my games. Never forgot any of you guys for a second.
ETA: Dammit! If I'd just been a day quicker I could've jumped in and saved DMB another round of DMPCing Taisper. Oh well.

Warden Zander Orlovsky |

Now that Zander is free, next round he will bring his bow to bear on the Harpy if she stays up there. It just seemed story-wise he had a lot going on as he came to his senses (His mask gone, Gregary before him), rather than immediately looking for an enemy to shoot.
And glad to have Taisper back!

Verik of Abadar |

DRA it's good to see you again, and we're just glad that you're back in the mix of things and not burnt out - sometimes a good bit of time away is what gets the ease of creativity going again!

Taisper Stozs |

I was actually waiting to see if ex-Gregary was gonna pull something, but I can go dump a CLW on Nikolai instead.
ETA: Actually, Verik, since this is a new round, are you going to tend to Nikolai? Taisper only has one first level spell left. I'll gladly use it on healing a party member if need be, but if you're on your way over anyway, then I'll save it for something else.

Yeah I don't think it's a spoiler to say that I'll have Verik heal Nikolai as my next action - I'll use one of my 2nd lvl spells as a sub to make sure it's as effective as it can be. That way you can go harpy hunting :)
I'm just holding on Jemini's action to RP off of that post with Verik (as it relates to Nikolai).

Unless you decide otherwise DM B, until further notice, Akiros is both Fatigued and Shaken.
Hehe just remember Akiros that you're supposed to slay her if she falls for your trap and not the other way around there :)

DM Barcas |

Akiros - The Swordpact is doing just fine. It consists of all members of the Aldori Swordlords, of which there are several hundred divided between Rostland and Mivon. The deaths of four Aldori Swordlords at the Stag Lord's hands was a truly impressive feat, as they are all elite duelists. (Akiros would have actually been named Akiros Aldori at the time, as they all give up their last name to the Swordpact. Upon the fatal duel with Matthias and the deaths of his brethren, he would have considered himself to no longer be a member out of shame.)

DM Barcas |

Everybody but Akiros can go ahead and level up. Akiros will level up after this scene finishes.
Presumably, you all on the island will take Gregary and the others back to Sanctuary when the storm breaks, right?
The loot from the harpy's nest is: +1 Frost Longbow (+1), a +1 Vicious Dagger, and gems worth a total of around 1000 gold, along with a negligible amount of gold.

Verik of Abadar |

Verik, if you're going to be here for another day (which you are), you can just ask Abadar for Comprehend Languages.
Thanks - yeah for some reason I didn't perceive the runes in my head as language, so that helps me to understand what I can do there the next morning.
Presumably, you all on the island will take Gregary and the others back to Sanctuary when the storm breaks, right?
Logically I would think we would do that, as it wouldn't be in character to say to the captives "oh just head up to this town and hope you make it" sort of deal. But if we headed back, doesn't that break the storyline with what's going on with Akiros, Tandlara and Corwin in the future? Just not sure if you need us to sort of RP around the logic there for the interests of the story.

Verik of Abadar |

Hey guys. I just read Interregnum.
I'll be reading this thread once I've digested that one.
Hiyas! It's great to see you back on the boards! How's the grad work going?

Verik of Abadar |

Aww Nikolai come on now, don't hate Verik because he's beautiful - he can't help it!
:P
EDIT: Great dream sequence though - the demon torture scene is pretty intense and the Jemini-demon reminds me of a Nalfeshnee - wicked!

Akiros Ismort |

Hey guys. I just read Interregnum.
I'll be reading this thread once I've digested that one.
Welcome back Tandlara! And Hello! : )
I've have taken over the previous NPC Akiros, doing my best to continue on in a similar vein as DM Barcus's excellent NPCing of him.
Not to ruin any surprises for you, but Akiros and Tandlara are the two main Founders left in Sanctuary at the moment (oh, and Jhod) and they have had some...very interesting interactions so far. Can't wait to have you catch up with your reading and re-join back in the game as things are just starting to get really interesting.
Oh, and sorry for almost killing you! (Twice! ; )

Taisper Stozs |

I'll level up soon, need to think about what 2nd-level spell to take. I may finally take an evocation-type deal, all my existing spells are so defensive.
Bane is sweet, plus I get Discern Lies and a couple of my Judgments get bumps, too. MY TIME HAS COME, ALEX!

Jemini of Lebeda |

Jemini's up to level 5. Summary of changes:
Paladin level 4
- +8hp
- feat: "antagonize"
- gain smite evil
- fort and will save +1
- bluff, diplomacy, intimidate and ride +1
- level 1 paladin spells (currently protection from evil and lesser restoration)
The feat is still up for discussion. I've toyed with Greater Mercy which can lead into Ultimate Mercy at level 7. I was thinking about Power Attack and some other feats as well. I loathed the original Antagonize, but with the errata of Ultimate Magic I think it may be worth revisiting.
Any input?

Warden Zander Orlovsky |

Verik of Abadar |

Haven't updated the Profile yet and not sure if this applies until we get back to town, but Verik's 5th Level is looking like this pretty much...
5th Cleric
* +6hp (5 + 1 Con)
* +4sp
* 3rd Level Spells (uh oh Verik gets Fly as a Domain Spell hehe)
* 3d6 Positive Energy Channeling
* Lawful Aura is now "Strong" (stand back anarchists!)
* Add 1st ranks to Kn: Arcana and Kn: History, +1 ranks to Diplomacy and Spellcraft
As far as Feats go, I'm thinking of going with Craft Wand. With time I think that could really give us some options in the field, starting with CLW wands that Jemini, Taisper and Verik could all utilize. Maybe some Bull's Strength for prep or a Sound Burst wand for some short-range punch. That being said I don't want to go wand-crazy, just like we're not trying to min/max Wondrous Items unless they make sense for us.

Warden Zander Orlovsky |

Decided to stick with Fighter. Ranger is just a few more skill points and low level spells. I'll see how creative I can be with all the feats to possibly compensate.
Once I get a new power source for my laptop, I will post the updated sheet. The basics will be: Weapon Training +1 to hit/+1 dam with a bow, and a feat. Initial thought there was Iron Will, but might still look about.

Akiros Ismort |

It's been in my head for a while that the party could use some more arcane support, and so I've been toying with the idea of dipping Akiros into something along those lines. Haven't found anything that seems to fit yet though. Any ideas?

Berrin Myrdal |

Hey guys, sorry for the long absence. I've got allot going on these days with my dad visiting from vietnam and a new job but I'm still here.
Eoin! Great to see you back. Congratulations on your masters.
Level 5;
Cavalier 1
BAB; +1
HP; +8 (6 + con + feat)
Hero Points; +1
Saves; +2 fort
Skill points; 6 (4 + int + human); +1 diplomacy, +1 handle animal, +1 intimidate, +1 perception, +1 sense motive, +1 ride
Class Features; Challenge 1/day, mount (Valnyr), order (dragon), tactician.
Feats; (5th) Mounted Combat, (tactician) Shake it Off.
Working on sheet now and hope I'll find the time to make an actual post as well.
