This is Berrin's third brush with uncomfortable actually. First he grappled the cursed/insane bear/druid, that got my heart racing, second Akiros and TSL nearly put him down though I missed the scene due to internet problems and now this.
Damned greatsword. I can't do anything requiring two hands while grappled, the only option is to drop the greatsword and draw another weapon or try to escape the grapple. What's the things CMD? And would drawing a weapon provoke an AoO from it?
As I'm trying to save my hide I'll argue that it's only weapon is it's mouth and it's currently occupied.
Not so much worried about the kobolts.
Its CMD is 21, and drawing a one handed weapon is a move action that does not trigger an attack of opportunity.

Obviously if folks start taking prisoners, Taisper isn't gonna walk up and shoot them; he's just trying to drop those that are running away and aren't being wrangled by one of y'all.
This is going to get awkward when Taisper executes a lizardfolk to get the others to talk, only to learn that lizardfolk don't speak Common.

Well Verik doesn't, but I noticed there's a precedent back in the first chapter (I think w/ Boggards) where Verik used a 2nd lvl Share Language Spell from APG, so he would probably try to use that for one of the captives that the party agreed upon.
Back on the note of options to keep trolls dead, if allowed I can have Verik take 'Sun Metal' as a 1st Cleric spell out of Ultimate Combat.
There's really some great RP stuff to chew on here as a result of this battle, so I'm in no rush if we have some things we want to chat about.

I'm sorry for how little I've been posting this week. Whereas I am normally fairly indefatigable, I'm battling a wicked case of exhaustion. Full-time detective work is pretty taxing, plus extra jobs, nine hours towards my Master's degree, and a newborn baby is getting to me. Julian is at my parents' house this weekend, and I just spent the last fifteen hours asleep. Yikes.

So, I imagine level 5 will be rapidly approaching in the next month or so. Taisper, I imagine, will rocket to one of the most dangerous party members because of the Bane class ability he gets at level 5. Anyone else got anything good coming up or planned out? (Level 3 spells for Verik and Tandlara! More feats for Berrin, Zander, and Akiros! What's Jemini got planned?)
Yep 3rd level spells, 3d6 energy channeling, and because of his domains Verik gets to try out a Fly spell! So that might be some entertaining fun to watch. For his feat selection I think he'd take Scribe Scroll, which should give him some additional casting options in the field.
Probably stick with Fighter and see how the Feat parade carries itself down the road....would really like just a few skill points though.
I'm having a hard time deciding between cavalier and fighter.
The abilities gained by next level are similar on both classes (more fluff on the cavalier side) but I'll have to look into future feat progression if he switches classes.
In other news, I have invited Steven T. Helt, who plays Shoto Imuri with some rather amazing detail and skill over in Mists of War, to adopt Nikolai. I think he can really add a lot of nuanced dramatic storytelling to the game. He has expressed interest in my offer, and I hope that he takes me up on it.
Jemini will stick with paladin. I'm not quite sure if I should adopt one of the archetypes that now comes available. Perhaps. Or not. I'm primarily eying the warrior of the holy light.
Feat-wise, I think Power Attack, to back-up her strikes with more meaningful damage in non-smite situations.

Berrin will take his first level of cavalier next level along with precise strike as his tactitian ability and mounted combat as his 5th level feat.
My hesitation was mostly due to wanting to take the weapon specialization feat now but Berrin isn't realy lacking in the damage department and I think it's been a long way coming for Berrin to bond Valnyr.
Weapon Specialization wil have to come later.

I need to see if there's some way I can get a different ability in place of the teamwork feats, 'cos those things are completely useless for this character the way he's turning out, and doubly so in PbP. They also don't fit with this group's combat style at all, or maybe it's just PbP combat style in general, I'm not sure, but regardless; meh on teamwork feats.
Yeah I mean I like the potential of your Precise Strike, and it's neat how the other characters 'qualify' as having the Teamwork Feat for the Inquisitor even if they normally don't, but in practice I would think it would be frustrating to always try to position a flank in a combat, then lose the flank on 5' shifts, etc.
On the flip side of teamwork feats they do encourage teamwork. With the cavaliers tactitan class feature everyone gets the benefit regardless of weather they have the feat or not.
@Taisper; I'm open to selecting a different teamwork feat if you feel Berrin selecting precise strike overshadows Taisper somehow, there are several I find quite enticing. Outflank on the top of that list, Precise Strike just offers the most directly obvious benefit IMO. The other feats offer no less appealing benefits though they are just as circumstantial.
@Berrin: I don't think you're overshadowing Taisper at all. This group just doesn't do a lot of cooperation or coordination in combat. It took me like three turns to get a flank in our fight with TSL and even then I felt like I was twisting arms to get it, and I really don't want to do that.

Mr. Helt has been silent in my game, too; not sure what's up. He was rather a prolific poster for the longest time but has vanished in recent weeks. He hinted at some rough times going on IRL, so he's perhaps dealing with that.
I have seen him posting on FB fairly regularly, but perhaps that entails a different time commitment than PbPs?
He recently had a birthday, so that might have taken some time. I'll send him a message to ask him to pop in.
ZAnder just posed the veiled question to Narthapple. We have a gold mine we want to develop. He seems interested and knowledgeable of gold and minting. I imagine Verik might have something to say about it, but the gnomes might be perfect to operate our gold mine and mint our coins.
That's an interesting idea. I wonder if they'd participate in a settlement if we could annex and protect the land? Between Jonah and Bokken we could have an interesting time at banquets and parties in the main Hall I'm thinking...
Interesting too about the kobolds. Maybe we can sway and turn them, though it wouldn't be in character to just go "oh hey you aren't totally rotten so let's be friends" sort of thing. Perhaps the gnomes bring some of them back to Newhaven as prisoners of war, and the one we can speak to we take with us as a guide of sorts?

Yeah pretty unfortunate there. Hard-charging on several PbP's from what it looks like through January, injured his arm and then pretty much all posts stopped by early February. Too bad too because I was digging the dynamic and where it could lead. Looks like that happened once before though - is that how Barcas jumped into DRA's Mists of War?
Yep. I adopted Kyras and enjoy him immensely.
