Great, interesting level-up choices. Can't wait to see them in action, maybe I could throw another dragon your way...
"You give glory to the great and wise Smiad with your choices, DM! Yet another chance for this vessel to bring glory and honor to his name...

Krolmnite the Brave |

IF we are going to roll for the amulet, I guess maybe highest d20 unmodified wins?
If that's ok, here's my roll:
1d20 ⇒ 8
If we want to go a different way, let me know.

Hey thanks guys, it's been a lot of fun so far, and this has been my longest ever campaign (and GMing stint) so I'm really pleased. Ironic then that I'm needing to make an apology for my absence the past couple weeks and explain my dilemma. Work and family life seem to have conspired to leave me with no free time recently, and looking at my calendar I think it's going to continue for a few more weeks yet. Things should calm down, but then I'm going to be out of town for most of April. Now, as long as you all want to keep playing I'm happy to keep GMing Serpent Skull, but realistically I think I need to call a temporary halt until end of April as I can't see myself having many opportunities to spend the 1-2 hours to write a GM's post, as I'm quite slow at it.
Ideally I would have liked to wrap up the present encounter first, but not sure that will be possible. Any suggestions?
BTW, if any of you live in southern California, Texas, Oklahoma, or Arkansas, I might be out your way soon.

Yekskya |

CHH, Just like Red Hand, I'm cool just taking the break till the end of April. I hope you get a good break and that things are less nuts once you're back. I live in Chicago, but sometimes have business trips to Socal, Dallas and Houston. Will let you know if any in April.

Maudrill |

It's understandable GM. Thanks for letting us know what's going on, I appreciate it. I think wrapping up the encounter is your call, we were only just getting into it so I don't see harm in stopping it short.
Do you intend on marking the campaign as inactive temporarily until things slow down?

Terry Pratchett passed away today.
Not due to suicide, but due to Alzheimer-related complications.
At least he leaves us before the disease could steal his mind away.
Rest in peace, Sir Terry.

I'll see about topping off my arrows. Need to go through and add up what I've expended.
We should probably do a division of loot from the things we've picked up since Eleder so that we can all look for purchases here.
I fear once we head out, further purchases are going to be hard to come by.

Yekskya |

Ok since Eleder, here's the loot
1,300 gold pieces
7,700 silver pieces = 770 gold pieces
93 platinum pieces = 930 gold pieces
7 gemstones worth 315 gp in total (I think gems sell at full value)
1 gold seal ring worth 500 gp
Total: 3815 gp
Magic to sell
potion of rage: sells for 150 gp
potion of beast shape 1: sells for 375 gp
2 javelins of lightning: sells for 1500 gp total
+1 composite shortbow sells for 1187 gp (assumes no str bonus)
15 normal arrows sell for 4 sp
+1 heavy steel shield sells for 585 gp
Total: 3797 gp, 4 sp
Items claimed
potion of fox's cunning (maudrill) would sell for 150 gp
potion of spider climb (maudrill) would sell for 150 gp
bead of force (maudrill) would sell for 1500 gp
wand of mage armor (24 charges) (maudrill) would sell for 180 gp
storyteller's dust (quinta) would sell for 300 gp
rhino hide amulet of natural armor +1 (krolm) would sell for 1500 gp (this involves the assumption that rhino hide is priced at 5165 of which 4165 is the price of the hide armor so the trample is worth 1000 gp and an amulet of natural armor is priced at 2000 gp, so 3000 gp item which would sell for 1500 gp)
divine scroll of heat metal (Zag) would sell for 75 gp
divine scroll of flame blade (Zag) would sell for 75 gp
divine scroll of endure elements (Zag) would sell for 12 gp 5 sp
divine scroll of cure moderate wounds (Zag) would sell for 75 gp
divine scroll of greater magic fang (Zag) would sell for 187 gp 5 sp
Total: 4205 gp
Cure moderate wounds scroll should probably be considered a party item so I don't count it below.
Grand Total 11,742 gp 4 sp
Split 6 ways 1957 gp each with 4 sp left over
Maudrill: Items, pays 23 gp to party
Quinta: Item, gains 1657 gp
Krolm: Item, gains 457 gp
Zag: Items, gains 1607 gp
Yeks: Gains 1957 gp
Cat: Gains 1957 gp
I think this is the most even way to do things, but if other people have a different suggestion, let me know. This way, if you'd really rather have the gold than an item, you just make the exchange. You'll get the items at half cost (versus purchasing), but this evens out people that pick up more expensive items from those that pick up less expensive ones.

Yeks, thanks for the update, that's a good summary and good breakdown of loot for the group.
I contacted CampinCarl a while back after my hiatus and heard no response which is a pity, I'll try again to get in touch to confirm his intentions. In the likely event that he's not returning, you can decide if you want his character to retain his share of the gear, or if you want to split that share among the group as well. With the four items above, that would give another 1,980 gold to split amongst the party.
BTW, checking stats on the thread I was reminded that one or two of you haven't updated characters to 5th level. If you could do so, especially as tallying up the XP total you're not far from 6th level now.

Yekskya |

There is a good use for masterwork or enchanted composite bows with no strength bonus. Just add the adaptive enhancement. You'll save a little over purchasing one with the strength bonus. That said, I don't think adaptive existed at the time this AP was written so I won't try to explain why they did it this way at that time.
Krolm has claimed the amulet.
CHH's info the on the rhino hide makes sense and adjusts things a bit. The items claimed total drops to 3705 gp. That makes things
Grand Total 11,242 gp 4 sp
Split 6 ways 1873 gp each with 4 gp and 4 sp left over
Maudrill: Items, pays 107 gp to party
Quinta: Item, gains 1573 gp
Krolm: Item, gains 873 gp
Zag: Items, gains 1523 gp
Yeks: Gains 1873 gp
Cat: Gains 1873 gp

"We might want to look into mounts and beasts of burden, too," Quinta muses. "Maybe a couple of wands of Communal mount. It might be a bit expensive, but preferable to having to maintain live horses, what with all the threats available in the jungle."
Let's see, my suggested shopping list:
Wand of Burning hands - 375 gp
Wand of Communal mount x 2 - 1500 gp
Wand of Cure moderate wounds - 750 gp
Wand of Gust of wind - 750 gp
Total of 3375gp. If everyone's in favour, we can split the costs?
Moving it over here to discussion.
First, the pricing you have is incorrect unless we're getting a bonus I'm forgetting about.
- Wand of burning hands = 750 gp
- Wand of communal mount = 4,500 each or 9,000 gp for two
- Wand of cure moderate wounds = 4,500 gp
- Wand of gust of wind = 4,500 gp
Second, even if we had the gold, I don't think these are a good use of resources.
Burning Hands
- The wand of burning hands isn't going to be very effective at this level. It only does 1d4 fire damage and if you pay for a higher caster level, the cost of the wand goes up.
Communal Mount
- I don't think we need communal mount. We're not on our own. IIRC, we're part of a big Pathfinder expedition. There will be "people" to take care of mundane things like mounts.
Cure Moderate Wounds
- A wand of cure light wounds is much more effective than a wand of cure moderate wounds. Average hp healed with a wand of cure light wounds is 5.5 hp per cast (275 hp per wand). Average hp healed with a wand of cure moderate wounds is 12 hp per cast (600 hp per wand). But, cost per hp healed is 2.73 gp with a wand of cure light wounds and 7.5 hp with a wand of cure moderate wounds. IIRC Zag already has a communal wand of CLW that we haven't tapped too much of yet. We could pick up a second one for 125 gp per character.
Gust of Wind
- I'm not sure what your thinking is on the wand of gust of wind. If it is to clear out things like obscuring mist, fog cloud, stinking cloud, etc., I'd suggest a couple scrolls. They only cost 150 gp each. But, we should also get CHH's ruling on the interaction first. The wording in obscuring mist seems to indicate that it would take 4 rounds for gust of wind to clear it out while the description of gust of wind seems to suggest it is strong enough to do it in 1 round. IMO 4 rounds isn't worth even the cost of a scroll.

Quinta |

Burning Hands is an area spell, which can be useful.
Jungles mean poison, disease and predators, so having backup magical mounts seems very useful.
Gust of wind is one of those spells you always find yourself needing at the worst time... Fair's fair, though, so is Obscuring mist.

Zaghigoth Stormbile |

IIRC Zag already has a communal wand of CLW that we haven't tapped too much of yet.
We have 44 charges left.
I'm fine with Yekskya's initial breakdown. I'll hang onto the divine scrolls...never know when we'll end up needing them.
What's available to purchase in this place, anyway? Does it have a GP limit, or is there a list of special items it has?

Yekskya |

Kalabuto is pretty big. I'm pretty sure its the last decent-sized place we'll pass through. According to the Inner Sea Campaign Setting, its population is 11,340 which would make it a Large City, Base Value: 8,000 gp and Purchase Limit: 50,000 gp.
Quinta, I'll wait to see what others have to say, but I'd rather not spend communal funds on those items.
I would support spending 125 gp each on a second wand of CLW. I would also support spending 125 gp each on a wand of lesser restoration (if CHH is willing to let us purchase one that was made by a paladin rather than a cleric so we can get it as a 1st level spell instead of a 2nd level spell).

Krolmnite the Brave |

Yeah, with the incorrect wand prices given in the gameplay post, I'll withdraw my support. I thought someone must have had CWI feat or something. I don't think we have no ugh cash in the kitty to pay the actual prices.

![]() |

Kalabuto is a large city with a base purchase value of 10,400gp and a purchase limit of 75,000gp (going by Sargava the Lost Colony supplement).
For the bane arrows, I'd prefer to keep with the 50 item ammunition bundles to avoid complicating things, but if you're hard-up for cash then I'm okay if you want to work out the maths and purchase a smaller amount.
As for the other magic items, Cat you have a healthy UMD score, if the others don't share your vision you could purchase some of them yourself, though the costs for some are still prohibitive.
Maudrill, you all picked up some loot from the dragon's lair, Yekskya has done a lot of work to divide the total worth evenly amongst the party. Maudrill had laid claim to quite a few of the arcane items though, which after the calculations were done indicated that he had claimed slightly over what would have been his even share, so to balance taking all of them Yekskya is suggesting you contribute some coin back to the communal fund.

Yekskya |

Your call on the arrows CHH. Its 8302 gp, 5 sp to purchase a full lot of them. So, they'd be well beyond my cash to purchase a full set. Partials are 166 gp each.
I'll plan to definitely purchase
- 300 more thistle arrows for 300 gp
I'll hold out 250 gp if everyone wants to go in on an additional wand of cure light wounds and a wand of lesser restoration.
If you'll allow purchase of bane arrows, he will purchase
- 5 human-bane arrows for 830 gp
- 5 undead-bane arrows for 830 gp
Other items on his list depending on those decisions
No wands
- 5 trip arrows for 200 gp
- 5 smoke arrows for 50 gp
No bane arrows
- 5 tangleshot arrows for 100 gp
- 10 raining arrows for 300 gp
- 5 trip arrows for 200 gp
- 5 smoke arrows for 50 gp
- 10 pheromone arrows for 150 gp

Quinta |

Yes, indeed. ^^ Sorry for the delay, I had an... odd couple of days.
*EDIT* Okay, Ssss has been levelled. Alas, since he's the boon of my Serpentine bloodline, he's at an effective level of my Sorcerer level -2. ;)

I'll be temporarily out of action, mice chewed through some of wiring around the house and it's caused all sorts of problems over the weekend. Internet's currently down, and so I reckon I'll be out of action until it's sorted. If I get an opportunity I'll post during my lunchbreak at work, but realistically it might be towards the end of the week when things are up and running at home again. Sorry for the delay.
