We're not running away per se. We are judiciously getting out of the area and not wasting time (hours) being detained and questioned by lawkeepers. There is a difference.
If Melthune wants to wait and answers questions, that is her business. But Hack and Taissa do not want to do that.

Melthune "Sans helmet" |

Um....
A crime has been committed.
We, the party, have been attacked unprovoked.
So...when those in a position of authority come to investigate the loud noises/People fleeing in terror.
You want to be far away and hence not in a position to explain anything?
If all you wish to do is speed u[ play then the questioning happens 'Off camera' to speed up game play. Otherwise, I think that's a bad call to simply flee.
Plus...we are forced to leave behind things which are 'spoils of war'. Thereby lowering the loot garnered from this encounter.
So, other than wanting to 'save time' there's no reason character wise?

Taissa Sloane |

We'd have to leave those things behind anyway because I'm sure the authorities, who will be present then, will not permit us to take the deceased's belongings. The lawkeepers will do that for themselves.
Why would we want to explain what happened? Aye, we were set upon. But why? We have a fair idea but how can we prove that to the law-keepers?
My character does not have a general trust of people so you would like her to trust in the law keepers to actually be good?
Taissa's not going to wait around and be questioned incessantly. Like I said, she has an idea why, and unless we can catch the 2 Northmen who fled, we won't know why they attacked us.
I am only going by how my character would react. She'd want to get out of there fast as can be, and make sure her animals are safe since they were the intended targets.

Melthune "Sans helmet" |

*Nods*
Melthune's view is rather different.
As a local she's more familiar with how authority works.
Actually, the DM filing in the specific of this knowledge would be nice.
BUT...Melthune is not distrusting of people, nor those of authority. Actually, I'd not be thinking the local Guards would be claiming anything we 'take'/remove as their own.
I've had Melthune start talking about how she views things. Interaction character wise would be nice, if you have the time?

Taissa Sloane |

I have no issue with rping it with you. I will have time in an hour (during my lunch break). Sorry, the wait is long, but I am at work. I generally have more time in the evening to post (as you're probably aware of). :)

Melthune "Sans helmet" |

(^_^)
No worries. Hope your day is going swell.
I've got the day off due to a shift swap, m'self. =^^=

That's excellent!
In which case, could you please post up at least what body you'd like to search first.
If it is the southerner (who hasn't been searched) could you also please toss up a Perception Check?
Thanks!
PS - you putting up what you do and the roll won't effect your chances of talking to the authorities or not - the perception check reveals what you find (via how good your roll is) and how long it takes (depending on what you do with the time).
Thanks again :)
PPS - we're also still waiting on Zayna to toss something up, too.
See you all soon!

Dain GM |

Sorry gang – I was unable to post due to some personal reasons.
At this point I need to crash.
As it stands – Polux, you’re free to make what move you’d like.
Stefan – as I stated already – if you want to toss up a response to the old man – you’re welcome to. If I don’t hear from you sometime in the next twelve hours I’ll probably just skip to something else with you.
See you all tomorrow!

Polux |

I am here Dain - just enjoying the show. I will have a post up in a couple of hours. In the meantime I've gotta crash also. It is waaay too late over here.
To the gang: Just think 'What would the Captain do?' :D

Anything else we should add onto the list, since Taissa is currently at market? Remember we have no ship weapons either: no ballista, catapult, canons ...
Are we going to do a minor overhaul on the ship while in Korvosa? I remember saying we would make The Scorpion seaworthy at least (so fixing her busted hull would be a good start). Perhaps the mighty Captain Polux will give final word? ;)

Melthune has suggested tweaking the sails on the ship.
Putting it on discussion thread to help with flow and storage of information.
That said - what does everyone else think? In other words; if I ask a player a question and they make posts and don't answer the question, is it reasonable that I just move the game forward with consequences to their lack of an answer, or is that too harsh?
If players make successive posts and do not answer the GM's initial question, then yes, move the game forward. I would like to suggest that if anyone has a question of a player (including the GM), that they use the discussion board (posting a one line reminder) to advise a player there is a question on the main board awaiting their answer. I think that makes it easier for those players working on their mobile/cell phones or those playing catch up with postings. If the question is then missed, even with the reminder, then move the game forward.

First off, I have absolutely no issue with the GM asking a direct question of the player, and then the player responding. In the event that they do not, or are unable to, respond, then the GM is well within his rights to move things along so as not to drag the game down for the others.
I currently possess a MW Breastplate. I am not going to get much better than a +6 AC Bonus that comes with it for less than the 350 GP I have to spend. Therefore, I only seek some additional crossbow bolts and some good tabac from the market. The remainder of my funds are available for use in upgrading The Scorpion.

Dain GM |

Hey guys -
Looks like we got a pretty good shopping list put together.
Taissa, it's likely that most of that can be taken from "Ship's Funds" as the more expensive goods tend to be things like foodstuffs for everyone (also, the mess kit that you have - if you elect to buy a Masterwork" for 50 GP it will provide you with a +2 bonus to all Profession Cooking rolls, should you make any, sorry I forgot to add that).
Once you all decide what you want to buy formally and lay down the funds you are able to return to the ship in the evening and share all the news with each other.
I've got to do some things but I'll be checking the boards later tonight.
Hopefully you'll all be back together and able to share things with each other.
See you later tonight!

In Ship's Fund currently = 429 gp, 12 sp & 4 cp (this includes the coin in the pouch Hack collected off the dead Northman bounty hunter).
Ship's cost:
* 14 barrels of fresh water (5 gallons in each, totalling 70 gallons) = 70 gp (This is 2 weeks worth of water. If people want to cut it back, let me know, please.)
* 2 weeks worth of food items = 140 gp
* Masterwork Carpentry Tools (This tool is perfect for its intended job. It grants a +2 circumstance bonus on a related skill check (if any)) = 50 gp
* Masterwork mess kit (+2 to Prof. Cook rolls)= 50 gp
*Crafting Supplies (converting 100 gp into crafting supplies)
So total spent on ship supplies atm: 410 gp. Remainder of funds: 19 gp, 12 sp & 4 cp.
Do people want to contribute any of their personal funds toward the ship fund? And if so, how much per crew member?
Taissa's personal cost:
Custom-made vest for White Fang (grants him a DR/2 to all slashing/piercing weapons) = 20 gp
Masterwork ball for said pup = 50 gp
Blanket, brush and care supplies for pup = 2 gp
Bones and Meat for both Daya and White Fang (2 weeks worth) = 4 gp
Surgeon's Tools = 20 gp
Crafting supplies (converting 500 gp of her personal wealth into crafting supplies)
Total cost to Taissa: 596 gp (plus whatever it costs to get Daya a custom-made vest).
Diplomacy: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (20) + 5 = 25 ---> Check made for haggling on healing potions/tonics (Is Stefan able to help me with his dip check?) Dain, do you want this played out on campaign thread or can Stefan just roll here too and we can make it happen? I know the merchant has to make an opposing check.
The opponents roll opposed Diplomacy Checks.
Whoever wins the roll wins the Bargaining and the price goes up/down by 5%.
For every 10 additional points that you defeat your opponent, lower/raise the price by an additional 5%.
If the opposition wins, they gain the bonus to their buying or selling price against you.
You cannot take 10 or 20 on bargaining.

Melthune "Sans helmet" |

Um...just a comment about armoring your feathered and furr'd friends. Wouldn't such items be classed as 'Barding'? Hence use the 'exotic' barding rules as a guide line, perhaps? I'm fine with how ever Dain GM wants to roll with it. :)
Melthune can contribute 50 Gp... which leaves her enough for beer moneys. :P
Much cheers to all.

Overhaul of the Ship
Right now the ship is going to be at a -4 to all Profession Sail checks until it’s been fixed. The cost to bring it seaworthiness is roughly 800 GP.
After hearing your plans, Ren would suggest that if you had a dedicated crew who was willing to work on the ship on the new carpentry it would only cost you 400 GP in Crafting Supplies.
He also has copies of schematics of both ships for your Captain if someone would like to look them over. (Okay, Polux and Taissa will look over Ren's schematics.)
Tweaking the sails
Mel, for now the cost to improve the sails is straight out of the book, nothing too expensive.
************************************************************************
So we need 800 gp to make The Scorpion seaworthy and we don't have to sail with a -4 penalty. (If we each contribute 115 gp to the fund, we can get the hull repaired etc. This amt is based on 7 people, incl Kat, Zayna and Melthune. Or we get carpentry supplies costing 400 gp and fix it ourselves.)

Taissa Sloane |

Melthune, I already asked about barding (as per my postings of last night). The GM has decided it would be a custom vest instead for the worg pup. I'm waiting on word regarding Daya.
And regarding beer, Taissa is purchasing ale and wine for the ship.

Awesome! I foresee crew moral being high. XD

Shenkt "Hack" Corchran |

I am willing to contribute 200GP for use however everyone sees fit for boat repair.
Can I get a total proce on 10 Bolts and some good Tabac?

Hack - you meet a trapper from one of the tribes in the highlands.
He likes your swag - so he'll give you the following:
1. Quiver with 20 crossbow bolts
2. 1 lbs of your choice - pipe tobacco or chewing tobacco
Also, he tosses in a bonus item for free -
3. Hip flask to hold a drink on you for cold nights
All you have to do is spend 2 gold pieces buying him some drinks and telling him some of your adventures.
You can RP that out with him on the boards.

Taissa - although there are rules for barding, the reason I gave you what I gave you was because of the following:
1. No one carries barding for warg puppies at this bazaar; the same is true for young roc's.
2. The guy at the bazaar you met was able to do some customized work in a pinch - but it was not something that is "standard" given the fact that you guys are a bit rushed and White Fang is so small. That's what I decided to do for the Customized Vest.
3. Regarding Daya and White Fang - although there is no specific armor in the town, if you or your companions decided to try crafting some barding using the formal rules for either of your pack mates, you could probably do it during your off-time on the ship.
You don't need to be trained in "Craft: Armor" to do it, you can just make an Intelligence Check. Getting some leather-working tools to augment your roll would help.
You can ask the vendors to try to customize the gear for your gang, but they'd probably need to see the animals before they could make the armor to fit to size.

Okay, I'm going to add the following to Taissa's shopping list (for personal use, paid from her own coin):
* Antidote Kit (+3 to heal checks to treat poison, 10 uses) : 100 gp
* Masterwork Artisan Tools (+2 to Craft): 55 gp. (I think this is suitable for working leather if I choose that purpose).

Dain GM |

* Masterwork Artisan Tools (+2 to Craft): 55 gp. (I think this is suitable for working leather if I choose that purpose).
It sure is!
Just like someone cold use a portable Alchemist's Lab to Craft Healing Remedies on the ship, too.
Of course, to do that you'd have to spend 50 GP on "Crafting Supplies" to get the stuff needed for Healing Remedies and you'd have to have a portable alchemist lab...

Taissa Sloane |

Dain GM, if you look at my personal shopping list, you will see that Taissa converted 500 gp of her own coin into Crafting Supplies. Is that okay?
We didn't sell the Portable Alchemist's Lab (Polux and Taissa have the Craft, Alchemy skill). It's on The Scorpion as part of group loot to be used by us.

Dain GM |

Sure is.
I used to do a lot of crafting in another game I played.
I'd go down below to my cabin below decks while all the other guys were upstairs and I'd craft myself some pretty cool stuff.
Of course, I always haggled for everything - including the cost of the crafting supplies, so I'd have extra crafting supplies for less gold.
On the other hand, that's probably why I was one of the better equipped characters in that game....

Taissa Sloane |

Yes but your haggling/bargaining rules are different in this game ...
I suggested earlier to roll DIP for all items but I was waiting on someone like Stefan with a better DIP mod (Taissa's only +5).

Dain GM |

Well, that would mean that Taissa (if she took ranks in Craft: Alchemy) could be making her own Remedies for herself and her pack, if she wanted to, that is.
This is why I was very relieved to see at least one party member pimp out their Diplomacy checks to buy crafting supplies and tools; one of you guys pimp out your Sailing Checks to really get the ship going if something happened to Kristin - and one you guys really pimp out your Craft: Alchemy checks - so you could be making your own Healing Remedies when you sailed (among other things).
Good times!

Taissa Sloane |

So we have an additional 50 gp from Melthune and 200 gp from Hack into the Ship's Fund for the ship repairs/seaworthiness project. Taissa will contribute 100 gp to the Ship's fund.
The total increase so far is 350 gp to the Ship's Fund.
(ninja'd! Done, Hack, thanks. :))

Taissa Sloane |

With all Taissa's purchases and contribution to Ship's Fund, she cannot afford 5 Healing Remedies for 500 gp. Perhaps we may reach 5 over the opposed DIP roll and get a 5% discount but even then it sounds too steep for Taissa.
Dain, can she purchase smaller quantities of the Healing Remedy (like 1 or 2)?
Okay, logging off for the night. Will finalise said purchases in my morning.

Indeed!
You could purchase one remedy for 95 GP each at this time. Just let me know how many you'd like to purchase.

Taissa Sloane |

If we can raise enough money from crew contributions into the Ship's Fund, then we can purchase the materials to fix the hull properly and make the ship seaworthy. That's the only purchase still left to do. If anyone wants to finalise that while I am sleeping, that would be great. We need to get all of us back on the ship and united, so Zayna and Melthune can be introduced etc.
Thanks and Night.

Polux |

Guys, here are some of my thoughts on ship maintenance and supplies, etc:
I believe that for 'general' ship supplies, we really shouldn't be getting into much detail - heck, even though Polux and others know how to sail, I do not :D
So :
- I think generic purchases should be something like "What is needed to sail X days cost Y" - done;
- Then we could add our own particular details regarding stuff we may want - like Taissa's great suggestions for spyglass and sextant (we cannot afford them, but maybe in the future, though... Dain, was there nothing like that on the ship when we aprehended it?);
- As far as what is generic and what is particular, I think Dain should adjudicate;
- The Scorpion sea-worthiness: I think we need at least to cover the bare minimums as Taissa pointed out. So that means the 800 gold. Ship funds are currently at around 370 gold. We need an OOC input on whether Stefan and Zayna what to contribute - I'll be honest here, I find it 'funky' that since she just really joined us, we would approach Zayna to pay for ship repairs - maybe Molthune/Suny because she was with us already, but not Zayna - up to you;
- I am going to finish Polux's shopping list, and decide on how much he can put to the ship funds, but most likely I will be throwing close to 200gold at it, making the grand total around 570gold (230 gold to go?)
Have a nice rest Taissa.

Zayna Amjad |

Since she just met you guys, and you're supposedly employing her, there's no way Zayna is going to contribute to fixing your ship, unless she also gets something out of it. Not sure what you guys have that she'd want, but until she develops some loyalty to you guys she's not going to be generous. The sum of her experience with the Scorpion's crew so far has been getting randomly cut open, and then abandoned by them to deal with the guards (that's how she sees it anyway, I understand not wanting to deal with the guards as a player). The exception being Melthune who also stayed.

Polux |

Makes sense in my book.
Stefan, what about you?

Taissa Sloane |

Taissa asked you both to come along Zayna and you and Melthune chose to stay. That isn't abandonment but choice. There's a major difference. Remember too you and Melthune aren't part of the crew yet. So maybe not pissing off the First Mate and attempting to play nice wouldn't go astray.
No worries - Zayna and Melthune do not need to put any coin. But remember too that means you cannot then use/partake of the crafting supplies bought with the ship's funds. Polux, remember most of the original Ship's Funds have been used up already on food, drink, water and minimal crafting supplies.

Taissa Sloane |

Polux, Ren has the schematics to our ship and has written a report. Perhaps you and Taissa can go over the report with him and have a better idea about the ship we are sailing on and what improvements need to be done.

Taissa Sloane |

I swapped out Know Religion (which isn't a class skill for Taissa) for Craft (Carpentry) which is. It makes sense to handle repairs in-house whenever possible and Zayna should have enough Know Religion under her belt as cleric.
So, it'll only cost 400 gp for materials to make the ship seaworthy and Taissa and Kat could do the work (if Kat is amiable).
So extra coin from Hack, Taissa and Polux at this point adds up to 500 gp (200 from Hack, 100 from Taissa, 200 from Polux). We have enough for crafting supplies to fix the ship ourselves. And then that's done regarding the ship purchases. We've paid for 3 days docking, so Taissa will spend the time (the next 2 days) fixing things ...

Taissa Sloane |

Dain GM, please note that we have now converted 500 gp into crafting supplies/materials for the ship (100 gp from the initial Ship's Fund and then 400 gp from the additional amounts contributed by Hack, Polux and Taissa).

Melthune "Sans helmet" |

*Wakes up...reads slough of posts*
Awesome! 500 Gp is going to go places in regards to the ship.
So...is that moneys enough to repair the hull?
If not...will it allow for a change of sails?
Much cheers to all.

Taissa Sloane |

The 500 gp has be converted into crafting supplies to make the ship seaworthy. The GM said that if we buy the supplies and repair the hull ourselves it will cost us 400gp (instead of 800 gp if someone else repairs the ship).
He said the sails were a separate cost to you via your spoiler. At market price. The sails have not been bought as we don't have enough coin at present and no one played it out on the board. There is still time however, as we have 2 more days in Korvosa (at least).
