Lilia falls into line at the mid back of the group, wordlessly waiting for the others to start down the tunnel.

Lueck will stick toward the back, bow in one hand and spear in the other. He keeps a nervous watch behind them, concerned that they have left hostile elementals and undead behind them.

The right path winds north. There is a fork after 30' which leads to a dead end. Another 60' up, the passageway widens a bit and veers west, and sure enough, there is the skeletal champion warrior who had stood in the mouth of this passage. Now he is keeping a vigil beside his sarcophagus, which is tucked away in a little side cave.

"Can we ask this guy some questions I mean it would be awesome! he might know some cool stuff!"

Sorry for the lack of posts. I'm still semi-busy but also keep just falling asleep during the times I mean to catch up on the boards.

Cairenn shrugs at the debating of which tunnel to begin with, since the tunnels do not correspond to specific demons and they have no clue of what threats await beyond the glimpse of which skeleton had retreated down which tunnel. When right is agreed upon, he proceeds along, putting his bow away and trading it out for his morningstar. Arrows are not the best things with which to face the dead.

His pale brows arch, first at Lilia's words, then at Priscilla's. "I suppose we can ask further questions," he admits. "What should we ask, you suppose? A query as to the layout of the chambers beyond? Where the crystals are? What other guardians await?"

After waiting to see if anyone has further questions, Cairenn turns to the skeleton champion and launches into more of the odd, hissing tongue of the dead.

Necril:
"Hail again, servant of the Master! To better accomplish the task we have been set, I seek knowledge! Tell me of the arrangement of these halls, and where the crystals to be shattered can be found... as well as what other guardians will seek to stop us!"

Bluff: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (2) + 7 = 9 Welp.

Sense Motive: 1d20 ⇒ 7 wow

The warrior responds like the whisper of the grave.

Necril:
"The sunken altar lies ahead... and beyond it the fires of damnation and the gaping maw of Maughuxin. Follow the paved path... the other passages are false. The amber shards lie in the burial chambers. But those of the greatest champions lie in the final chamber, on the island, beneath the altar. Do not forfeit these... they will make fitting servants for our Master. But the spawn of the demons three will guard them covetously. They are jealous of Prince Orcus. They still conspire to claim the souls of these champions for themselves."

That would have gone a lot worse for you if this was the robed skeleton instead of the warrior!

Lucky us!

Cairenn nods, then offers a bow to the warrior, before turning to whisper to the others. "Priscilla's idea earned us valuable information," he admits.

"Ahead there is a sunken altar-- and beyond that, fires and 'the max of Maughuxin,' one of the demons three of this place. The warrior says that we must follow the paved passage, for the others are false. The crystals themselves lie mostly in the burial chambers-- save for some of the strongest souls, which are beneath the altar spoken of. Demonspawn will guard them, though."

In a whisper, he says, "We can try to strike now... but I fear its fellows will rush swiftly to aid it."

"If we have to fight demon spawn, we could be in for a real problem. Could you find out if there are any 'safe' spots ahead that we can rest and plan, if necessary? And, I agree, Priscilla was proven right. Perhaps we save these three skeletons until the end of our journey on the way out. It might have even more information if we discover something else and have questions..."

Ronen finally speaks up having stayed his tongue since the meeting with the three skeletal caretakers.

"Our immediate action needs to be find these stones that are guarded. Attacking these caretakers would further weaken our strength against much dangerous foes.

To Lady Lilia's suggestion that would be valuable knowledge. If this is a test of sorts then I would believe there might be such a spot if not multiple places."

The skeleton stands still as a statue beside his sarcophagus in the little alcove. Beyond him, the passage meanders west.

Remind me, who has the light source up?

50' beyond the sarcophagus, the passage forks. The right fork leads to a series of increasingly narrow dead ends... natural tunnel formation. The left fork reconnects with the central path, paved with flagstones. The paved road travels east-west. The winding natural tunnel bisects it, continuing south, where the familiar sound of the rushing blood-stream can be heard.

Ares and Cairenn have cast light if I recall correctly.

Before moving off I think we wanted Cairenn to ask if there were places to rest safely before doing the trials?

Id definitely like that question answered as well. If not, we might have to crawl all the way out of this place before taking a break.

Female Halfling Rogue 2 |HP:24 |Percpt:+10(+11 traps) |Init:+9 |AC:15 Tch:15 Flf:10| F:+2 R:+6W:+3|CMD:13

Priscilla checks this leg for traps.

Perception: 1d20 + 12 ⇒ (13) + 12 = 25

after that see looks to the others and smiles."Seriously guys its a simple idea, not all monsters in a dungeon are out to kill you, some merely live there and we are invading their home. Besides I prefer to exchange words than blood any old day!"She says with a warm smile despite the direness of it all.

The skeletal warrior knows of no place to safely rest. The elemental guardians of this barrow respond to life force. Even if the party tries to rest here with him in his sarcophagus, the guardians might follow here. They only leave him alone because he is dead.

As for crawling out to take a break, it's just a question of whether you want to get this done before the archaeologist team arrives in the morning.

From the intersection where the tunnel passage bisects the flagstone paved road, the flickering light of Abraxes glints off the crimson surface of the blood-stream up ahead.

Male Aasimar Cleric-3 | HP: 27/27 | AC: 15(17 w/shield) T:12 FF:13(15) | Fort:+5 Ref:+3 Will:+6 | Cmb:+4 CMD: 15 | Perception:+4

"You are wise beyond you years Miss Springheel, what you say is true and we shall save our strength for the guardians and other threats." Ares replies to the halfling. Then he looks to the all the group, "Seems we are all in agreement and shall get a move to the paved path, remember this night our resolve will be tested and no rest will be had."

Yeah, Ares would have light casted on his shield.

Priscilla discovers that the bricks of the paved road are sensitive. Walking on this path will alert the guardians.

Disable Device DC 15:
It's possible to wedge the flagstones, but would require more than thieves tools. It would require a good amount of pitons, spaced every 5-10 feet.

Female Halfling Rogue 2 |HP:24 |Percpt:+10(+11 traps) |Init:+9 |AC:15 Tch:15 Flf:10| F:+2 R:+6W:+3|CMD:13

"Well here is a trap, er possibly let me see what i can do about it" she says as she stays down in a crouch near the flag stones.

Disable Device: 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (4) + 10 = 14

So it looks like Priscilla knows that walking on the flagstone road alerts the guardians, but she doesn't know how to stop that happening. Options are to stick to the natural tunnels or walk on the flagstones and see what comes. (Or something else I haven't thought of I suppose.)

The Professional | Female Human Unchained Rogue 8 | HP 51/51 | AC: 20/15/15 | Evasion | ImpUncDodge | Danger Sense +2 | F:+4 R:+12 W:+7 | CMB: +7 CMD 22 | Initiative +5| Perc.+15 | SM+13 | Lowlight Vision

"If the path is a trap, we need to avoid it. We can either take the natural tunnels or see if there is a different path. I vote we head down the natural tunnels and see if we can find a way onward down there."

With a bit of exploring the party is able to determine that they need to backtrack to the cavern of the blood mist falls and take the other tunnel if they are to make any further progress, without swimming in the stream. After doing so, they probe a bout 45-50' into the western tunnel and find another sarcophagus like the first, this one also watched over by a vigilant skeletal warrior, the other of the pair who appeared along with the robed skeleton.

Like the first, this one does not interfere, only nodding at a whispered greeting from Cairenn in the language of the dead.

65' further into the tunnel past the sarcophagus, after a fork that tapers off to another dead end, the party soon comes upon another subterranean crimson stream cutting across their path.

I took some liberties with your characters to nudge things forward. Please take a look at the map to see the path I described so you have your bearings.

It appears to be un-trapped. This seems to be a natural tunnel, with the same type of subterranean blood red stream running across it, like the one you have seen before.

This is a six foot long jump, or a swim through slow moving water.

The banks look coated with a slick fungus.

This looks like a DC 10 swim check or DC 10 acrobatics check.

Uurnir, Ronen, Cairenn and Lueck remain on the far bank.

Reaching the far bank, Priscilla see's a pair of tiny little bone spears.. a little too small even for someone her size... and a pile of gravel that seems to have been disloged from the wall or ceiling of the tunnel.

"What are those things," Lilia asks when Priscilla points the spears out to her. She casts Detect Magic to see if they might be valuable, or if they are just tools for a tiny race of something.

"The rest of you, come on over. We've got to press on to see what else is back here."

The tiny spears have no aura, they seem to be carved of bone and belong to a very small race.

The piles of gravel seem to be dislodged from the walls. Priscilla finds the hole where something burst from the wall displacing the debris.

Lueck will wait until all others have crossed before he jumps himself.

Following Lilia's words Ronen moves back a few feet far enough to gather enough speed to clear the stream.

My (further) apologies. My concentration this week has just been shot and it's been hard to focus on tags, but I know it's frustrating when Cairenn is the guy who has a lot of IC knowledge about the area. Please consider that he will certainly share information if you need your character to know the information and I haven't actually posted sharing it.

Cairenn Acrobatics: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (7) + 5 = 12

Disable Device: 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (8) + 10 = 18

The hole in the wall looks more like a creature burst out of it... and the little bone spear left behind in the pile of debris looks like a wielded weapon, not a component of a trap.

It seems like some small creature was snatched by something else that burst out of the wall and pulled it away.

Scouting ahead Priscilla finds that after a few side passages that mostly look like dead-ends, the tunnel eventually reconnects with the paved flagstone road.

However, on her return trip to tell the others of her findings, Priscilla is almost back when she spots a small humanoid creature darting around the corner of what she had presumed to be a dead end.

I'll update the map with the area Priscilla scouted tomorrow night when I get home from work.

With Ares and Cairenn in agreement, the group presses forward. After about 20' you pass the side passage where the little spear-wielder was seen scuttling away. Continuing on you soon come to the juncture of the flagstone paved road.

Which way do you want to head?

"How about we head toward the northwest here. That seems to head deeper back from what I can tell. After Priscilla makes sure everything is safe, of course."

Priscilla recognizes these flagstones as the same kind that have sensors for alerting guardians.

Disable Device: 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (13) + 10 = 23

Priscilla believes the flagstones are designed to detect life force. Therefore, the skeletal inhabitants were able to roam freely without alerting any of the elemental guardians. However, any living creature walking this road will invite the wrath of a host of elemental guardians.

The only way to go undetected on this road would be to disrupt ones life force first somehow, lowering the body heat and ceasing to register as a living creature.

Survival: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (19) + 6 = 25

"In my home we would occasionally go on treks that would benefit from us going unseen by the various creatures of the wild. In such cases one could use a coating of common dirt to deter the senses of some predators. Such a tactic may serve well here as well." she speaks while rubbing some dirt from the cave floor between her fingers; testing it for potential use.
