Age: 27 Height: 5'8 Weight: 160 lbs. A man with a slightly brown complexion turns to meet your eyes. He is an attractive man at a casual glance. His chestnut brown eyes are a bold statement against the softer features of his face. His hair is clean shaven to his scalp and no facial hair can be seen growing around his mouth or nose. The man looks like he is in his early twenties and has a lean athletic build. The way he stands so straight almost convinces you that he is taller than his actual height. Dressed in a white woolen robe he wears the uniform with tremendous amount of pride even though upon closer inspection the robes can be seen tattering at the hems just above his sandals. Hanging from his neck he wears an iron pendant painted white with a red sword that has been etched into the middle. What possessions you can see him carrying are very little: a pack and a crossbow he carries on his back while two small pouches hang from his belt at his waist. In his left hand he carries a sheathed sword tucked against his arm with the hilt of the blade pointing downward. The man seems very much at peace... HISTORY:
Born in a village between Fairhill and Bard's Gate Ronen remembers very little about his parents. He knew their names, Wallander and Fera, and that they were devoted to the temple of the Twins (Muir and her brother Thyr). They lived a modest life traveling as merchants with their newborn son Ronen. They had dreams he would take over the business and settle down to lead a quiet and content life but that would not happen. On the way to Bard's Gate laden with goods for the city's bustling market the unthinkable happened the small caravan that Ronen and his parents were travelling with were overrun by horde of undead, what history would later call the March of Bones.
While some would be blessed on that day fortunate enough to survive the attack and journey to Bard's Gate Fera Carst would not be one of them instead giving her life so that Wallander could escape with Ronen and a few of the others. Even after making it to Bard's Gate with Ronen, Wallander would eventually succumb to some disease that the undead carried with them. Left with no relatives Ronen would be taken in by the Priests of Thyr. While Ronen's heart could have grown with hatred it did not. In fact in the Temple of Thyr and Muir Ronen found his calling. The rigid and structured nature of the Churches allowed him to focus his thoughts away from what had occurred in his past and strengthen his resolve to protect the innocent. He quickly took to his lessons both in the art of battle and in the holy tenets but began to find that the sight of blood brought him back to the last real memories of his parents often leaving him afterwards in a state of turmoil. It was not until he met Brother Karaba a travelling priest of Muir did he learn of an old sect within the priests of Muir called the Order of Crimson Fists of Righteousness. It's origins forgotten this sect of priests sought to perfect their skill of the longblades. Turning the blades into an extension of their own bodies. Deciding to travel and learn under Brother Karaba Ronen has travelled the roads between Bard's Gate and the West learning more of the world than he ever had envisoned. His travels have also shown him how the teachings of Muir and Thyr have been forgotten amongst the people of the land who now turn their eyes to the newer deities Freya and Mitra. Now having returned to Bard's Gate almost four years since he has returned to find the followers of the Twins even fewer than before. MOTIVATION:
Ronen finds himself silently at odds with the church leaders. His memories of the Church of Muir and Thyr are ones where he found strength. Where the faithful sought out the priests and paladins of the Twins asking them for their protection and blessings that is all but a distant memory. And one where he feels that the others of his Chruch are not doing enough to change this. Ronen has now taken it upon himself to change the image of the Chruch. He has given his time freely to escort those too poor to bury their loved ones in the City of Ashes. Providing last rites to the departed even while the cemetary itself falls apart around him. A metaphor befitting his own Church.
While the pain of his parents death does not haunt him as much as it once did. It still provides the drive for what he does. Protecting the innocent is the most important tenet of his faith and he will do anything within his power to carry this out even if the innocent could care less at that moment. Raised in the Church for most of his life secretly he does not know what he would do if he awoke one day and the Church vanished from everyone's memory. Could he bear the weight and become the champion to restore it's glory? Is there too much hubris in thinking he is fit enough to do this alone? These are the thoughts he has started to think about nightly. |
