Male Human Shoanti Inquisitor 3

Venmirl sees his friend go down in battle and a wave a grief washes over him. With the cleric tending to Izbahn, Venmirl rushes to the evil brute and swings his morningstar.

Morningstar: 1d20 + 4 + 1 ⇒ (5) + 4 + 1 = 10, damage: 1d8 + 3 ⇒ (4) + 3 = 7
Damn, these are some cold dice...

Male Human Shoanti Inquisitor 3

bump?

Unknown Reptilian

As Izbahn lays on the ground dying, Venmirl runs by him, eager to get some revenge. Sadly the large goblinoid blocks his attack without to much trouble. Izbahn is now down to -4 hp.

The remaining goblin finally realizes he's now the only one remaining close the clearing. He yelps something that sounds like 'nasty elfy' before running and disappearing into the woods.

Everyone has bless for 19 rounds. Darst and Naomi are next.
Initiative order:
Brute?: 22
Shalelu: 16
Venmirl: 11
Izbahn: 11

Male Goblin Rogue 3

Darst heads after his friends.
He moves in the general direction of where he last saw the others.

Female Human Cleric lv3

Naomi kneels down and starts applying pressure to Izbahn's wounds in an attempt to stop the bleeding.

Dc15 Heal to Stabilize Izbahn:1d20 + 7 ⇒ (20) + 7 = 27

Unknown Reptilian

Darst leaves the clearing and heads after his friends. He eventually comes upon Naomi standing over Izbahn's unconscious body.

Naomi's efforts to save Izbahn pay off. Even if the wizard remains badly hurt and unconscious, it's seems she was able to stop the bleeding and return his respiration to normal. He's probably no longer in danger of dying.

The bugbear sneers at Venmirl. "Don't think you've won this yet, human. I'll hunt you and more then one will fall next time!" He says before withdrawing into the denser part of the forest.

Shalelu is a bit dumbfounded that her savior is a goblin. Eventually. she just shrugs and run after him.

Venmirl is up next. If he pursues his enemy, I'll need a perception check, as he's trying to be stealthy and avoid pursuit.

No map since this will probably take us off the area I had prepared.

Male Human Shoanti Inquisitor 3

"That's exactly why you need to die now!" Venmirl screams as he tries to follow the escaping beast.

Perception: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (8) + 7 = 15

Unknown Reptilian

Venmirl runs after the fleeing enemy but, with the short visibility the forest provides, he soon loses sight of the big humanoid. Venmirl stops for a moment, trying to hear the fleeing goblinoid but all he can hear is his own breathing and the flapping wings of birds frighten by his passage. It seems the big brute escaped for now. Still, the bugbear can't have gone very far and might have left some signs of his passage.

We're out of 'turn by turn' actions so Venmirl will regain one last hp from his judgement, putting him at 16/21. What is everyone doing?

I also wanted to say I'm sorry about the slow updates these last few days (weeks?) ... [lame excuse]I don't quite have all the time I used to have to post at work.[/lame excuse]

Female Human Cleric lv3

I'm going to stay with Izbahn.

"Venmirl, let him go! We can track him down later!" Naomi calls as she stands up and looks for closer threats.

Perception:1d20 + 2 ⇒ (14) + 2 = 16

Male Goblin Rogue 3

Not knowing what to do, Darst stays by Izbahn and waits for an order. He watches Shalelu warily.

Male Human Shoanti Inquisitor 3

"Damn!" Venmirl curses in disgust as he is unable to find just where his enemy has fled into the brush. He gives running further a second thought before returning back to his friends.

Shalelu lowers her bow and looks a bit relieved. "As much as it pains me to see Bruthazmus escape once more, I'm happy about the way things turn out! To what do I owe the pleasure of meeting you here? I thought the mayor had told you to remain in town." She looks in turn at Venmirl then Naomi, avoiding Darst for now. Only when her eyes fall on Izbahn's prone form does she realizes the gravity of his wounds. "Wait ... I'm sorry, don't answer my silly question, we should tend to him first." She kneels before him and retrieves a few fresh berries from a leather pouch fasted to her belt. She holds Izbahn's jaw open with one hand and crushes a berry in the other, letting it juices and crushed solids fall into the mage's mouth. It takes a few seconds but Izbahn miraculously begins to stir and regain a minimal amount of consciousness. Shalelu smiles at him and feeds him the rest of her magical berries. Izbahn feels stronger with each berry and devours them all like an hungry ogre. He feels much better, even if he still feels pain from the wounds the bugbear gave him.

Izbahn regain 5 hp from the berries, which puts him at 1/14 and conscious. I'll also distribute some xp now. You get 100 for avoiding the xtabay in Pauper's Grave, 100 for saving Shalelu from Bruthazmus' little 'siege' and 200 for this last fight. This puts you all at 3430, enough for level 3, enjoy :). Please level your characters up as soon as possible and tell me of any choice you make in the process. Like last time, you regain as much hp as is added to your maximum (average hp btw). You don't gain additional reserve points (or spells/spell slots) until you rest however.

Izbahn staggers to his feet nearly falling back on his face. When he sees Shalelu, his face shows an immeasureable amount of relief.

"I am glad we found you! We came out here to track down a missing stallion for a merchant, but we ran into some unforeseen snags. Are you OK?" He glances around him, "Unless that horse is nearby, we should return to Sandpoint before that bugbear returns with more friends of his."

Wooo!
Taking either Skill Focus (acrobatics)or Dodge. It's a tough choice.
Okay, I decided. Skill Focus. :D
Putting another rank in Stealth and Acrobatics. Two ranks in Knowledge (local). That leaves four ranks. I'm putting two ranks in Sense Motive, and two in Survival.

Well, I could explain my error, but it'd take two paragraphs. Suffice to say I misread and forgot he standard. No, I haven't been rolling every level up. Thanks for catching this.

During the fight, Naomi and Izbahn followed behind Venmirl and Darst and also came into contact with the stinging nettle in the underbrush. Some of their exposed skin is starthing to itch slightly. Like the goblin and the shoanti had to, Izbahn and Naomi must also make a fortitude save (DC 12) or loses 1 dexterity and develop a nasty skin rash caused by the plant's toxins.

"I'm fine." Replies Shalelu simply even if her wounds and soot covered face seem to indicate otherwise. "But I can't return to Sandpoint just yet! We're really close to Thistletop. I got two friends that were made prisoner by the goblins there. I'm not leaving until I can find out their fate. Plus, that's probably were Bruthazmus ran off to. I believe I owe him an arrow or two." She concludes with a wicked smile.

Fortitude save DC 12 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (4) + 3 = 7
DEX is now 11.

Izbahn suppresses a groan, What is it with these women? Still, he puts a brave smile on his face and responds, ”Shalelu, we would be more than willing to help you find your friends, and also that Bruthazmus fellow.” He glances at his companions and nods wearily, ”We should rest for a few minutes to recover, before pressing on though.”

Paging Naomi, there has been a DING...please respond...

Naomi frowns as she scratches some nettles from his skin.

"Resting is probably a good idea."

Level Up info:
gained 6.5 hp for a total of 23, saves went up, BaB(and thus CMB/D) also went up). Updated number of spells per day but not prepared, channel is now 2d6, Skills updated(1 rank in Dance, Spellcraft, Stealth, and Disable device). Took Dodge as my 3rd level feat.

I wish the APG had been out when I was making Naomi. Improved Dirty Trick would have been great, but it has Combat Expertise as a prereq, which means I need an Int of 13...

Venmirl looks surprisingly at Shalelu. "Bruthazmus? You know its name? Have you encountered him before?"

My brashness already got them captured. *sigh* Night is gonna fall in a few hours, perhaps we can hunker down and hide somewhere close while we rest."

This is 'MAD'ness! :P Seriously, I'm always open to reworking a character, if that's what you really want and if it stays true to the general character concept.

Venmirl of Skoan-Quah wrote:

Shalelu looks almost as surprised. "You don't know? Oh ... I guess I've only told that to your mage friend back in Sandpoint. Bruthazmus the bugbear is an old enemy of mine, my 'nemesis' some would call it. He's a notorious elf-killer and has terrorize settlements up and down the lost coast for a few years now. I've tracked him down and fought him on several occasions. Those fights always seem to end with a draw. With your help, maybe I can change that. I know he regularly visited the five local goblin tribes to trade a few things but, from what I saw and learned in the last few days, he seems to have taken permanent residence with the Thistletop goblins for some reason."

Izbahn nods in agreement with Shalelu, "Yes, that would be a good idea, gives me a chance to memorize a couple of new spells I have learned. Now your friends are Kortus and..."

Amrunelara???

Izbahn vaguely remembered the Dwarf who had traveled briefly with the group. He remembers the beautiful elf on the other hand quite vividly, and a conflicting swell of emotions wash over his face.

He mutters under his breath, ”Amrunelara? I have to see her again? That’s just wonderful…”

Male Goblin Rogue 3

Darst is barely able to prevent a burst of manic laughter. "So, elfy gets herself caught, eh? This's bringin' us to DOUBLE elfies saved?"
He grins broadly at Shalelu. "This business is lookin' dangerous for you elfies! Maybe you should jus...er."
His eyes widen. "Hang on. Waitwaitwait. THISTLETOP?! We's goin' THERE?!"
And now, the dramatic reveal... ;P
"Urk."

Unknown Reptilian

Shalelu seems a bit annoyed by the goblin's comment and frowns at him. "Urk? What do you mean? What do you little rascal know about Thistletop?" She asks in an almost aggressive manner.

Izbahn raises his hand in a calming motion, he hopes anyway. "Ease off of Darst there, Shalelu. He did try to help you there."

He then turns to Darst, Aaand Darst, if you have been to Thistletop before don't you think we should know of this, especially since we know the goblins are basing their attacks from there?"

"I isn't been there ever! I's a Sandpoint goblin!" The goblin fidgets with his war razor. "An' I isn't been there for some good reasoning! What's we going headed that way? Since when's that the planning? You says CAMP, no STRENGTH-HOLD!"

"Hmmm..." Venmirl thinks to himself. "He seems like he is telling the truth, but there is something I don't trust about him. Still, he has fought beside us admirably, even against his own kind."

His patience nearly exhaused, Izbahn snaps "That's enough, you two! We are going to Thistletop to rescue Shalelu's friends, and Darst, you will guide us there."

He turns to Shalelu, "We need a place to hole up for the night, do you know of a place near here?"

Shalelu nods. "Fortunately, if there's one thing this forest doesn't lack, it's hiding spots. I believe I saw a large uprooted tree not too far from here, in the denser part of the forest. Its roots and the surrounding vegetation should provide enough concealment for us to hide. That is as long as we don't make a fire or do something else stupid to reveal our position." She pauses for a moment, letting the others reach to her proposition before she adds: "The goblin seem to be on your ... well our side for now. But are you sure it wise to bring him along for an expedition into a goblin 'strength-hold' as he puts it?"

Male Goblin Rogue 3

Knowledge (local): 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (14) + 5 = 19
What does Darst know of Thistletop?

Unknown Reptilian

Darst:
Good thing there's a thread search option ...
Me from more then a year ago wrote:
[*Speaking of Thistletop*] Darst knows that this is a name of a local goblin tribe. He remembers that the other goblins of his own tribe always said the Thistletops were stinky lucky lazy goblins thieves. They apparently have the best lair in the region, somewhere north of Sandpoint, and they have stolen it from better goblins (which were usually ancestors of the one telling the story).

Now, you rolled decent and Darst put a few ranks in knw(local) since then, so I'm gonna give a bit more info. How accurate and valuable this info is remains to be seen.

Darst knows that Thistletop itself is build atop an about 100-foot tall rock that sit in the sea, several feet off the nettlewood coast. Some say that with the right angle and lighting, the rock looks a bit like a human head. Darst finds this notion silly, why would goblins live atop a human head? He also as been told stories of passages beneath the goblin lair. It is said that these passages are filled with dangerous monsters and that an ancient goblin chief hid something powerful down there.

Male Goblin Rogue 3

Darst glares at Shalelu. "Wise? Why it not be wise? I's not the serial killer here!"
He looks at Izbahn. "I says, I's never been to Thistletop in me life! All I knows is it's a ghosty place. The crazy Thistlers live on this huge giant's head, 'cause they're crazy, an' their chiefs fill their dungeons wit' monsters! There's summat bad down there, an' that's only the fifth reason why not to go!"

"A serial killer? Oh that's rich!" Shalelu replies angrily. "I'm protecting defenseless farmers and merchants from your own psycho brethren! Your kin wouldn't have to fear us if they would just stop killing for fun!" She throws her arms in the air and takes a deep breath. "But I guess we don't have time for more arguments ... let's just find that hiding spot." She says before storming off, not really checking back to see if the rest of the group is following.

Izbahn sighs. This is definitely going to be a challenge, trying to keep those two from each other's throats, not to mention working to gether. Maybe I can talk to her....ahhh who am I kidding? Darst and Shalelu will have to prove themselves to each other first. That will take time.

He hurries off after Shalelu, not willing to be left alone here.

Male Human Shoanti Inquisitor 3

Venmirl starts heading off toward the direction Shalelu and the hiding spot or located. He takes his time, but eventually catches up to Shalelu. When he is certain the others are far enough behind, he strikes up a conversation with her.

Shalelu:
"Hey, I know how you feel. Trust me, do you think it was easy for someone like me to trust that goblin? I'm not saying that I'd trust him with my life, but the little guy has proved to be valuable to us. Plus, I've had more battles against other humans than any other race or what have you, so I know that it's possible to have quarrels with others of one's own race. Still, if he ever thinks to double-cross us, he'll regret it." He says to her with a wink.

Unknown Reptilian

I finally got around to reviewing (well mostly checking the hp and nb of skill points) your leveled up characters. Here's what I got.
Izbahn seem to be missing his favored class bonus for lvl 3. This can be 1 hp, 1 skill point or 1 new lvl 1 spell (APG human wizard bonus) in his spellbook. New hp total 20 (or 21?)
As Venmirl pointed out, Darst should have a bit more hp, 24 to be precise (22 current).
I believe Venmirl new max hp should be 29 (current 24), not 30. You only get extra hp from toughness (beside the initial 3) at lvl 4 and beyond.
Naomi seems fine, new hp total 23.
Story update coming later...

Unknown Reptilian

Venmirl:
Shalelu nods at the inquisitor. "Good to see someone is being rational about it. Venmirl was it? ... Yes, well I'm not a fool, I saw what he did for me, back then in the clearing. Still, maybe because of my history with members of his race, I can't bring myself to trust him just yet. In any case, I'll watch your back and you watch mine, deal?"
It doesn't take too long for Shalelu and the rest of the group to reach the large uprooted tree she mentioned previously. The tree's root and patches of dirt that still cling to them provide excellent cover to the north. To the south, concealment is provided by a few small trees that are competing to take the room left open by the fallen giant. While the four other members of the group prepare a minimal camp, Shalelu does her best to mar their nearby tracks and all other signs of their passage that might lead enemies to the hiding spot.

Izbahn will take the extra 1st level spell as his favored class bonus (Burning Hands). Thanks for the catch Reptilian.

Male Goblin Rogue 3

Ah, almost forgot. My Favored Class bonus shall go into HP. Darst has yet to be seriously injured, but I'm not taking any chances. :P

Male Human Shoanti Inquisitor 3

Being a tracker himself, Venmirl follows Shalelu's lead and joins her in covering their tracks and hiding any signs of their location.

Reptilian GM wrote:

30 is correct. I'm putting my Favored Class bonus towards extra HP each level. So, 8+5+5 for hp each level, 2+2+2 for a +2 Con, 1+1+1 for favored class, 3 for toughness.

Unknown Reptilian

The sun slowly sinks in the west and our adventurers have prepared their camp. Shalelu strongly suggest to keep a lookout during the night. By the determined look in her eyes, she seems about ready to stay up all night.

@Venmirl, that's the thing, it's should be 8+4+5 (or 8+4.5+4.5 if you prefer).

Izbahn volunteers for the first watch, knowing he would be useless in the dark and also needing rest to memorize his spells for the next day.

OK cool. I've always done it round up per level.
